:flowerforyou: It's wonderful to see so many posts today, especially since Saturday is usually a slow day......Thank you for all your kind words...when I started MFP in February 2009 this thread was already here.....it had been started by a woman named Esther and I fell in love with the group from the very start....I learned a lot about healthy eating and exercise but even more important than that, I had a group of friends who never lost interest in my endless recitations of what I ate and how I exercised, when I had a question, there was always someone there with an answer. Even with a loving husband and good friends, I needed the love and support of this thread. I could log on day or night and find some new story from one of you.....how cool that we live in so many time zones.

:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: on the subject of drinking water, I didn't drink much at all when I started. I rarely felt thirsty and was more concerned about not finding a rest room than I was about the potential of dehydration. When I found out I had to drink a lot of water, I treated it like a prescription from the doctor and drank it dutifully whether I wanted to or not. Someone on this thread suggested keeping water on the kitchen counter or on your desk at work......that's when I figured out that room temperature water went down more easily than ice water. Later, someone suggested keeping a piece of paper and a pencil near the water so I could make a tally mark for each eight ounce glass.......I still do that. Later I made a rule for myself that I couldn't log onto MFP without first drinking eight ounces of water.....maybe my "tricks" won't work for you, but if you keep reading on this thread, you'll learn something that works for you.

:flowerforyou: Debbie, the world is a better place because of people like you who jump up to volunteer in times of need.....thank you :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

:flowerforyou: It took me a long time and a lot of trial and error to rid my house of tempting food----the last tempting food I had to get rid of was Kashi Go Lean cereal because I kept finding myself mindlessly eating it out of the box

:flowerforyou: Welcome to everyone who is new........you are starting an amazing adventure with this new group of friends

I really did not have specific goals for April and really did not do very well. I changed my goals to reflect them for May. This past week I have been eating right and I plan to continue to do that and to add exercise. I have not weighed in a while. I may weigh tomorrow so that I can know where I am. I would like to be a size smaller by my birthday on May 26th. thank you ladies for being here for me. I could never have done it without you. I have 2 girls Emma and Rhea sleeping over since Paw Paw is away. They are watching Tinkerbell so i will close now to spend some time with them. Have a good Sunday.

Good evening all. I am sharing what is called a "Responsibility Contract". Someone wrote this during her journey to a healthy lifestyle. She knew that her emotions had a powerful impact on her eating habits. Feel free to adapt for yourself.

:flowerforyou: "I am willing to take responsibility for my emotions in all situations, and take the time to learn from them. I realize that I am not responsible for other people's feelings, but do my best to be kind to them.

I know that I can handle my emotions and will do my best in each and every moment to be aware of them. When I catch myself feeling angry, or blaming people, I will take the time to become aware of what I am feeling in that moment and uncover the reason for my feeling this way.

I will step back from a situation and deal with my emotions in a positive way and only return when I feel calm about the situation. I am becoming more and more responsible for my emotions each and every day." :flowerforyou:

Being responsible for my own emotions is one of the keys to successful healthy living.

So just a quick post. I just had a wonderful dinner with my husband:love: and even with splurging for our anniversary I only came in 26 calories over for the day. We had a cocktail, wine, craba and artichoke dip , a salad, wonderful bread and seared ahi. we even had vanilla icecream on the house for our anniversary. It was wonderful and I didn't feel guilty at all. It was a wonderful meal. I hope you all have a great evening.

    Hello All,

I can't believe it is May 1st already. :noway: What happened to April? And I am sitting here in WOOL SOCKS on the first of May :noway: because it got so cool this afternoon.

Last night, one of the weathermen on our local tv stations was asked why he wasn't predicting 70 degree days with sunshine, and he replied, "You know that commercial with the "easy button?" .... Well, my "easy button" is broken!!" :noway:

Today, I was getting a coffee and saw a fellow wearing a Staples shirt. When I opened the door, a breeze blew in and he commented on the cold, so I told him what the weatherman had said. The young man said "We can deliver another one!!!

Had a busy day today and Friday. Last night I helped friends deal with some computer problems, and in return, I had a grilled salmon dinner with a great salad, and garlic sourdough boule, not to mention fresh steamed asparagus. We had a sugar free lemon loaf covered with blueberries and a little Redi Whip. The calorie count for the day would have been better if I had only had ONE glass of Merlot instead of THREE!!  But, life is for living..:ohwell: Fortunately, I had lots of exercise calories available from moving boxes and furniture.

One of the things we did was start talking about the differences between cats and dogs. My friends recently acquired a very friendly orange tabby cat named "Charlie." He checked my out quite thoroughly, and apparently decided it was not a violation of the "cat code" to accept petting from someone who smelled like a certain trio of little doggies. Once he got all the attention he required, he sat with his back to me, and my host commented on how, if he (the cat, that is:bigsmile: ) were a dog, I wouldn't be able to get rid of him.

By this time I was starting that third glass of Merlot, so I had a sudden "insight"--Dogs are like toddlers--wanting your undivided attention at all times, will follow you to every room, sit on your lap the minute you sit down. Cats, on the other hand, are like most teenagers--sullen and unresponsive--unless THEY WANT something!!   My host and hostess thought his comment showed great philosophical insight,:noway: but they were both on their second vodkas, so maybe ya had to BE there!!!

Today, I got a later start than I had planned. It seems that 3 glasses of Merlot leaves me feeling...well..like I had three glasses of Merlot!!   Anyway, I didn't stay in bed too long, since I got a call from a neighbor alerting me that we have a sinkhole on the common area of our condo property, next to the creek. It is fairly small, so far. I measured it this morning so I can check it on Sunday to see if it is any bigger. We managed to find some scrap lumber and cover it so no person or critter can fall in.

I managed to get the rest of the odds and ends moved from my parents' storage unit, and consolidated into the other one I rented that we are going to combine my stuff and theirs in. Unfortunately, I am NOT done:grumble: I still have to go through all my stuff this next month and get it consolidated into the other unit. I found about 6 boxes of old Sunset Magazines. My mom subscribed to Sunset from the early 50's up to about 1993, and I thought I had already recycled all the ones that remained, but these were from the mid-fifties up to 1970 and beyond.

I hated the thought of just tossing them, but there is no market for them ( I checked). As one fell open to an add for a late fifties car, I suddenly figured out a solution. I called the Memory Care unit of the senior living complex where my parents live, and found they would be delighted to use some of them, and they would share the rest with someone in the activities department that works with residents not in memory care. I delivered all the magazines there today, and before I even got out of the building, some of the ladies were eyeballing them with great interest.

I couldn't resist holding back a few of them and taking them to my mother. There were two magazines that were older than I am, and we both got a kick out of that. I didn't have time to look at them in depth but will later.

After all those exercise calories, I went to a birthday party at the home where I grew up. The couple that purchased it are good friends of a good friend of mine. Their son, and his mother have birthdays at the beginning of May, so it was a good excuse for a party. I ate too much chili and cheese dip with tortilla chips, and also had a piece of brownie cake with ice cream, and a couple of snicker doodles jumped on my plate too:noway:  There were also veggies and salad. It was not the most healthful of meals, but very good, and tomorrow is another day.:flowerforyou:

I was supposed to visit with a friend after the afternoon party, but I was so tired, I came home. The doggies and I are spending quality time--they with their snores and an occasional snack, and me with the computer. I also watched a movie that I didn't even know existed, the story of "The Singing Nun"--remember the song "Dominique" that came out in the mid-sixties?

Well, this post is long enough. I will do some personal responses in a separate one.

    Callianna25--
Welcome to the thread. I read your profile. We are here to support and encourage you. You CAN do this!!!

    Debbie (LifeAfter50)--
My thoughts are with you and your hubby in your efforts to help with the coastal cleanup. I can't even imagine what an unpleasant environment you will be working in. Thank you for doing something that those of us on the other side of the country can't. I hope you will keep us posted on your efforts, if you have an opportunity to get online.

    Jeannie (LJCannon)--
Congrats on your weight loss and your time in the race.:drinker: :drinker:

    Mimi--(7grands)
Howdy, keep up the good work.

    terrill--
Welcome to the thread. There are 9 weeks until your daughter's wedding. I don't know that you could lose 20 lbs. in that time. 2 lbs. a week on an average would get you 18. (despite another poster whose math doesn't match the number of weeks until July 4th--Sorry Michelle :flowerforyou: ) EXERCISE,--lots of cardio to burn calories. Eating healthy and drinking lots of water. Doing strength training exercise will help you build muscle and firm up so that you will lose INCHES, which will, in turn, help you LOOK like you lost more than you did. Good luck!!

    Amalia--
Good luck fighting against those trigger foods. As we know, they are dynamite.

    Viv--
Glad you met your goals, or pretty close to it. Hope your uncle is ok.

    Michelle--
I agree with you. I have never heard of a "thank you" dinner where the people being thanked are charged for the privilege. Hope you have a great visit with your son--sounds like a much better use of time to me!!:flowerforyou:

    Birdie--
Hope you enjoyed your retreat. I am planning my own "retreat" from anything resembling work tomorrow!!

    Jackie--
Congrats on your loss. The broth sounds yummy. As for BP, if it is determined their was negligence, let us hope they do pay off in a more timely fashion than Exxon did for the mess they created in Alaska with the Valdez spill. It took YEARS for them to ante up and pay the piper. The sad thing is a friend of mine told me there was a safety precaution available for the underground valves that would have added another $500,000 to the cost of the platform, and it is a requirement for drilling in European locales but not in US, and to save money, since it wasn't a requirement, it wasn't done. Assuming this is true, I bet they wish now they had spent the half a mil...

    Donna56--
I see your food diary now has you tracking fiber, but you still have another category space available in your diary. You can track up to 6. I recommend you add "fat" as another option to track. To change your food diary, when you are in the "food" tab, choose "settings" and add fat to your settings. To change the amount of fiber as your daily allowance, I see that Michelle posted above me how to do this, so I am editing to eliminate duplicate info. You can also use the same process if you want to change the amount of sodium or cholesterol. All three of those numbers are static--they will stay the same regardless of how many calories you have available for the day. Protein, Carbs, Fat, are all a percentage of calories so they will change based upon your number of calories available for the day.

As far as the dog eating your breakfast, maybe a little seasoning and some cheese will help your eggs be more palatable.

    Welcome Fabfifty!!

    Alice--
Thanks for the pretty May basket. I was so busy today that I forgot to remember it was "Mayday." What sort of farming do you do? Growing crops or raising animals?

Sorry about the water problem in your exercise area. I would imagine you would prefer to have a contractor put in a pool rather than "mother nature.":wink:

    Canroadrunner--
Welcome to the thread. We will be glad to support you in your new beginnings. You know what they say, "if we can send one man to the moon, why can't we send them all?" :noway:    I am just kidding, but I have found that sometimes thinking that thought will keep you sane.

I will face the music with my weigh in on Monday and look at goals for May.
I haven't caught up with everyone, but it is late and I am ready to crash. Happy Sunday.

Just checking in. Cloudy day in May in IL. But definitely not dreary! I must share my good new...broke through a stubborn plateau today! The scale Gods were smiling at me this morning. I am down 2 more pounds. I am savouring the moment as I know my body and I will be at this weight for a while. Off to get ready for church, then a play with my sis and neice. Hopefully will sneak some exercise in this evening.

rjadams: Happy Anniversary! You did well and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. Good for you! We have enjoyed your sweet pictures on your profile. They are lovely!

Renny: Love the contract with self. I can adapt that for water drinking, taking time for me, and being disciplined enough to exercise. Thanks for sharing.

Barbie: I kept a tallie of my water drinking yesterday. Thanks for the tip. With that paper right by the sink I was more diligent about getting it in. Thanks so much!

Have a blessed day all!

Just a quick hello, I will catch up with everyone later. So Today is officially the first wedding anniversary. So we are going to the Mariners game. Yay! We go every year once or twice. One year we went 12 times. this year will be different tho. No polish sausage, no candy, no peanuts and only one beer. I am taking some carrots and a protein bar. Boy I really have changed. Anyway I hope you all have a great day.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Happy May to everyone!

Didn't have time to get here yesterday because it was my Saturday to work and then, of course, I got stuff done around the house and yard with my family. I was SO tired after that just the thought of using a computer sounded like too much work!:noway:

Welcome to Terrill, LJCannon, Callianna, Donna56, FabulousFifty, canroadrunner and dmdinfla! (I hope I didn't miss anyone!) :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou: This is a great group of women to be involved with!

I did okay on my April goals--except for the walk in the evenings. The weather hasn't been very nice and I find myself VERY tired in the evening so what I have done--and plan on continuing to do--is to add an extra cardio workout to my morning routine. It's surprising how much more time I have now that I'm not going outside to smoke a cigarette! (copied from my last April post! )

Debbie--it makes me want to cry to see the devastation caused by the oil spill--and it sounds like its going to get much, much worse! Thank you for helping--I wish there was more I could do but we will be donating to the cleanup and relief causes.

Robin--so glad your DH is feeling better. Enjoy the game. (Maybe you will be the reason they win today? One can hope!) I love your picture. You should keep it up--it makes me happy to look at it!

Jackie--I love Scotch broth but could never find a good recipe for it--would you be willing to share yours?

Michelle--I have a youtube playlist with belly dance workouts on it. It is so much fun to do! In fact, I think I'll do that when I finish posting here! It will be a nice break from the more 'utilitarian' workouts i usually do!

Barb (weaklink)--You are SO right! Cats are EXACTLY like teenagers! AND if they don't get what they want, when they want it, they have the loudest ways of letting you know, too! (Just like teens! Well, like my girls as teens, anyway! )

Well, I'd better get moving. Hope to get back later. Have a wonderful Sunday, all!

Barbiecat. What a great post. I will be joining this group if you can handle one more:happy: My goal for May is to increase my outsidwe walking, and to try and meet my calories they say I need, I feel like I eat a lot, guess not. I gained 70 lb's from steriods and have never gotten it off. Plus I battle a physical disability, which exercise is very hard for me, but I do it thankfully, because I could not walk independently for about 3 years, So I'm starting all over, I use to be extremely active all my life, never had a weight issue. I love this site, it is so encouraging. :flowerforyou:

Hi exermom-I have a couple tools to measure bodyfat. One is an inexpensive set of calipers (Accu-Measure) These are the old standard pinch the skin type so you have to be pretty precise every time you measure. The other one is a handheld electronic bodyfat analyzer I got at GNC for @ 30 bucks. (Omron) If you shop locally for one, call ahead because I went to 4 stores (Walmart/GNC...) before I found one in stock. You enter a few details and hit start. My trainer has one, but he only checks our body fat @ once a month. When you're working your butt off for weeks and the scale isn't budging----check the body fat. This little toy saved my sanity in March!

    Happy Sunday everyone

It's COLD here today! Amazing how the weather fluctuates so quickly here in Alberta. It is so good to be here with my brother and sister-in-law and their family. I met their granddaughter (4) for the first time, and their new dil. Family is such a privilege and a blessing. My older son and grandson (20) live in Calgary, and they're coming up for a visit next week. I haven't seen them for a long time.

I read the posts quickly today...so many people around and lots of conversation going at once....it can get confusing. I haven't seen my nephews in 7 years, so everyone congregates here to catch up daily. I'm loving every minute!! But I want to keep grounded in my mfp commitments, so log in every chance I can grab.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday. Hugs all around!....Ainslieglen:bigsmile:

:flowerforyou: Good evening everyone ..... hope you've all had a good day today.

 I had an early start ....and I mean early ...for me anyway. We were ready and waiting to go for our "Car Boot Sale" this morning at 6am. It was dry at least - we were on a large hospital car Par -:ohwell: but it was fffrrreezing!! We did manage to sell quite a lot of our Bric - a - Brac ( Some of it was China and kitchenware etc that belonged to Mum) but still came home with enough to do another one next Sunday. We came home at lunch time ...cold and ravenous! A full English ...No...Welsh breakfast was the order of the day....duly logged in the diary. I've only got a small number of calories left ...I'm not intending to do any exercise either, so I think I'd better go to bed to avoid eating ...don't you think?

:flowerforyou: Barb ....what a great idea with the magazines. I know my Mum loves to look through anything from her "Era"

:drinker: As per a request ....Scotch Broth a la Jackie? ....if I can remember ! It's a bit hit or miss as I just"chuck" things in but I'm sure you can improvise just like me!

We had ..... a raw leg of lamb bone (Meat to be used for some Moroccan Lamb ...again!)
A few cubes of raw lamb
Rough diced ....Onion, Celery stick, Swede, Parsnip, Potato,Leek
    Mixed Herbs
    Lamb Stock cube / water
    Black Pepper
    Worcestershire Sauce
Pearl barley or some prridge oats (Handful)

We did...... Sautee the veg and meat in a small drip of olive oil, add the pearl barley or oats, season, add water and stock cube to cover veg. Pop in the bone too and simmer til veg soft.
Remove bone ....(Doesn't like being in the blender) cool slightly and roughly blend.
Thin down with water or more lamb stock, season with worcestershire sauce and ...EAT. Healthy unless you need to eat it with a huge chunk of thickly buttered French Bread!! A freshly baked wholemeal roll is better!!

:ohwell: I didn't weigh today and hope I'll be OK tomorrow. Eating was hit and miss today as you can see from the diary ..... I'm off to see what, if anything I can get for supper. Then an early night I think. Nothing planned for our Bank Holiday tomorrow ...weather's not going to be amazing. Maybe we'll go for a walk before we hospital visit.

Thank you so much! I just "chuck" things in, too, as I cook, so I'm sure these directions will do just fine! Will need to pick up a few things so it maybe a week or so before I make it. I'll try to remember to let you know how it turns out!

:flowerforyou: 7 days down, 5 more to go till DH comes home.

:flowerforyou: dmdinfla - Thanks for your thoughts on body fat. I checked out a number of websites this morning that have calculators. I have now included the measure in my goal. Given my stats I went from 45% to 36%. Happy to see that improve. At the same time it brought home the importance of exercise for me. I think I will follow my own advice and create a "responsibility contract" with respect to exercise. I must have a blind spot in that area, despite having been quite athletic in my youth (gymnastics, running and basketball). I have to do some soul searching to figure this out. Huh.....the stuff that makes you go hmmm.

    Hello Everyone--

I have come to a decision. Last night I looked at the time I spent posting, just on this thread, and realized I had to make a change. If I hit the lottery, then I could spend all day responding to posts, but since I haven't (Last time I checked, you DO have to buy a ticket to win, right?:blushing: )... Well anyway, I contemplated not participating in the thread any more, but that would be like cutting myself off from a part of my family. Besides, I wouldn't have anyone to appreciate my bad jokes except my mom!!! And my friends who can't run away fast enough to avoid hearing them.

So I reached an important conclusion. I will keep reading, and I will keep posting, but I am not going to address people individually, unless it is in answer to a specific question, or a specific topic in their post that I want to address, and even then, I may just mention the info and not necessarily the poster's name. Otherwise, it just gets too time-consuming.

If anyone else has a better idea, I would love to hear it, but this is the only way I can see to keep this thread from taking up all my free time.

Robin--Happy Anniversary. Glad DH is feeling better. Enjoy the game. Hopefully the weatherman will cooperate. So far it is nice down here.

dmdinfla--Welcome, as I don't think I said so earlier. Thanks for tip about body fat calculator that one can purchase. I might just check one of those out.

Jackie-- Broth sounds good. Thanks for sharing directions.

VickiM--I appreciated reading your thoughts on the oil rig disaster. I am glad your hubby is safe, but I really feel for all the people affected by the situation. At this point, it isn't about "blame" but rather about long term survival, economically and ecologically.

Barbiecat--Your comments about drinking water reminded me to share my own tip. I have a travel coffee mug that holds 16 oz. When I get up in the morning, I fill it, and don't eat breakfast until I drink all of it. Then I refill and drink another 16 oz with my meal. That is 4 glasses right there,:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: and I find I have no trouble getting in the other 4 glasses, and often drink more than 8 in a day. I also keep a water bottle in my car. It is amazing how many times when you think you are "hungry" if you drink water, you forget about it. This is very helpful just before going into the grocery store!!

I will update my goals and evaluate my progress or lack thereof on Monday when I do my "official" weigh in.

    Have a good Sunday everyone.

 Sorry to say folks ..... I had hoped to be Sooooo....good tonight but after seeing a cookery programme by "Rick Stein" DH and I set to and cooked a lovely Pasta Marinera + had a glass of wine.I was over on the calories and...I didn't even put the wine on the diary. I didn't start to put down the recipe for the dish, so just found one for the diary on the list. Methinks it's even worse than the diary says as it had cream in it too.

:embarassed: Once again .. By eating as I do ....I've saved you all from those calories haven't I!!! My shoulders are broad ...i can take it!!
 Well ...I can hear you all saying it ...if she eats all that ...she will be broad!!!

I know I should have gone to bed when I said!!!

One blip ...back to being good tomorrow.

Terrill – Fast weight loss doesn’t last, but I under stand you’re wanting quick results for the wedding. My only suggestion is to use the tools on the site for BMI and BMR and don’t have more than 500 calorie deficit between what your calories should be and what you eat. Calories in and calories out is what it’s all about. Good luck.

Canroadrunner – please tell us what dragonboating is? I can’t wait to find out.

AllisonMO – Your trip sounds fantastic! I hope you put up some pictures and I can’t wait to hear all about it.

Mary – lol You certainly deserve to eat out and get what ever you want! I hope you have a nice dinner out.

VickiM – OMG! This oil spill hit home for you and your husband. Everything you said is true. My hubby and I are reading what we can on it every day and just praying they can cap that well. If not, who really knows what the effect will be yet. It could destroy a large part of the ocean and everything in it and around it. This is truly a man-made globally devastating event. I am sure that people from all over will do what we can from a distance to support the people and wildlife down there.

Well now that we have 2 Jeannies and spelled the same way no less, if it gets to be confusing I can go by JAM here.

I will set my May goals and do an update in a separate reply later today as this one is getting long.

Congradulations to all who met their April goals or good luck and warm wishes to all for May.

    Good evening ladies,
I went to the birthday dinner and did very well. ate some chips and salsa, ordered a child's salad which is served on a dessert plate and did not have cake. It was cookie cake and that does not tempt me at all. really want to get exercise included tomorrow. '
Jeannie thanks for your comments. It is a tragic thing and can be very devasting for many many people in many states down here and will trickle to other places too. Hopefully they can get it contained soon. I know they are trying something else in a few days.
Barb thanks for your comments also. You are right at the moment we just need to get it done, but unfornately as close to this as we are that is not what we are hearing. Barb I know that I would rather have you read and post what you can than to stop on this site. You are a valuable member of this group and I would hate to not hear from you again. We have many that have stopped for one reason or another and I really miss all of the different opinions and comments. I would truly miss yours. You have a way of saying what needs to be said with truth and clarity but no offense at all. Please continue to post even if you do not do so individually. Sleep well ladies.

On the subject of water, I many days have over 100oz of water/day. Actually, I've gotten to where I'd actually prefer to have a glass of water than a soda or juice. Whenever we go out, I'm always asking for "water with no ice". For one thing, the ice (to me, anyway) makes the water too cold. Now I've started having my tea without artificial sugars. I'm TRYING (operative word here) to avoid processed foods. Doesn't always happen. I'm just not into something that's made in a laboratory (fat free, sugar free stuff turns me off). Give me a little of the real thing. I know this doesn't work for everyone.

Here's a question: I've tried posting it on the "fitness" forum and didn't get much response. Are there any disadvantages or advantages to walking on a treadmill with a weighted vest? I'm avoiding googling this because many times you get hits that are from companies that make the vests so they have an interest in getting you to buy it. I've tried asking people, so far haven't gotten any response. Maybe someone has a personal trainer they can ask for me?

ds got back to the states. We found that he can be added to our cell phone plan for a small fee provided he doesn't buy a new phone. Well, we have his old phone, so we're going to reactivate that one. At least he'll have all his contacts, etc.

Did that belly dance DVD today. I totally forgot how much you used not only the hips, but your legs, arms, shoulders, chest, back. I think what I really should do is take some private lessons to be sure that I'm doing things correctly. Boy, am I stiff!

Barb - was there any other reason you got rid of the Kashi Go Lean cereal other than the fact that you were mindlessly eating it? I tend to like it because it's high in protein.

Congrats FabFifty on breaking thru that plateau. How did you do it?

Just finished my diary for today. Yesterday I was over calorie goal by 67, today I'm under by 267. Everything is evening out.

rjadams - have a ball at the game! Will you be able to bring your food in? We went to a ballgame down here once, it's a minor league team. I thought for sure they wouldn't have a problem with me bringing in food so I used a small cooler. When we got there, there were all these signs "no outside food allowed" Gulp! So I told the guy at the gate that I needed it for medicinal proposes. He let me bring it in. Next time I took my "going to the movies pocketbook". Didn't have a problem. It looks like a pocketbook (but it's big)

remolding - there always room for one (or two or three or four .... ) more!

dmdinfl - I have pair of the Accumeasure, too. The bioimpedence, to me, are too inaccurate. It's so easy to get a false reading (like if you are hydrated). Too easy. When I do a body test on the Wii, it gives my bf. I'm thinking that that's somewhat accurate. The Accumeasure goes from 22-24 and the Wii says that I'm 23%. Well, that's close enough.

Barb (weaklink) - you had me scared that you were going to leave us. My heart thanks you for your decision not to leave us...lol

As far as how I keep track of my water consumption -- I have three 24oz insulated water bottles (BPA free). I usually have one water bottle (all 24oz) while I'm getting dressed, putting on my makeup etc. I usually have another one when I'm exercising (actually, tomorrow I'm planning to do a spinning download, so I usually have more than 1). Now that it's getting warmer, I like to have some green iced tea, and I know just about where 16oz in the glass is.

You know, I find (believe it or not) that the best time for me to go grocery shopping is right after I've exercised. Guess those endorphins are flowing or whatever, but I have no desire for "junk" foods.

Jackie - don't beat yourself up over one day going over calories. Actually, in many ways that's a good thing (think of the people who calorie cycle). Sort of shakes our bodies up. Did you enjoy the sauce and wine? Your mental health is important, too. Just don't make every day one of those days and you'll be fine.

I'm going to TRY to close out my food diary for the day and then post. The plan right now is to try for the month of May. We shall see how that goes.

I forget who it was, but thanks for pointing out my math mistake. Math was never my strong subject in school. As a matter of fact, I was making these lemon squares this afternoon. The recipe called for 8T of butter. Don't ask me to explain it, guess you can say that it's my bad math, but for some reason I was thinking that was 1 cup. Only it's 1/2 a cup. I didn't have enough other ingredients to make 2 batches, so I'll try it again when I get more flour (like tomorrow after spinning).

I told dh a while ago that I thought PJ (the cat who is diabetic) looked thin to me. He kept saying "that's because you're comparing him to Loki (who is almost 14lbs, he still thinks he's 3lbs....lol). Today he tells me that he's going to call the vet tomorrow because he thinks PJ is losing weight, his coat is a bit on the "oily" side and he seems to have his tail down a lot. I've been thinking the exact same thing for quite a while now.

Just a quick post to mark the thread. I am switching my weigh-in back to Monday...so I'll weigh, measure and do goals setting tomorrow AM. It's a good thing I had general goals for April. I did manage to keep them, for the most part. Unfortunately actual weight loss didn't play too much into the picture!!

Welcome to Callianna, Terrill and LJCannon , Canroadrunner, dmdinfla and anyone else I missed!!

Debbie (the real thing) kudos to you and DH for volunteering to clean up. My prayers go out to all those hundreds of thousands of people and animals affected by this disaster.

Till tommorow, then. Have a good night all!. Terri:heart:

Michele- After what we've been told about treadmills and injuries we wouldn't even use one any more. They can cause a lot of injuries due to the secondary motion. With that said, it your using a weighted vest I'd think it would increase the danger of injury. Maybe some one here does have a personal trainer they can ask. Good luck.

What a great group idea! Thank you to whichever one of you started this! So this will be my first week of 'getting down to it' and my biggest goal for May is to log all the food that I eat...no cheating, as I'm finally realizing I'm only cheating myself. LOL! Such a cliché but so true. I'm off to the doctor this week as I'm worried about my blood pressure - terrified in fact - I'm just turning 50 and everyone in my maternal grandfather's family was gone by 55, except one Auntie who hung on to 90, but I'm not counting on those genes.

I'm inspired by all the success stories and happy to lend support where I can. Happy May to all and may you see all your goals realized!
    Cheers,

:flowerforyou: Barb, I am in agreement with you about responding personally to everyone. Some days my perfectionism kicks in and I end up posting nothing because i am overwhelmed at the prospect of responding to everyone. I have been trying to do what you propose and respond only to a few specific posts and not try to "speak" to everyone individually. I love hearing from you....you add humor and tons of information and i look forward to hearing from you. Your comments about dogs being toddlers and cats being teenagers was right on:bigsmile:

:flowerforyou: Caminogirl, welcome to the group. You are on the right track logging all your food as a starting place. When I started this journey, I want to finish off all the canned, packaged, and frozen food I had so I could buy healthier stuff.......OMG was that an eye opener when I logged everything I ate......later I began planning all my food in advance and refusing to eat anything that I hadn't planned in advance......stay with the thread and you'll make friends and learn a lot of good stuff.

:flowerforyou: Michele, I bought Kashi Go Lean cereal after a lot of research about healthy cereal. for awhile I ate measured cereal with measured soy, almond, or rice milk every evening. I found out that even healthy food can be a trigger to overeating. Now that I'm maintaining my weight and can eat peanut or almond butter or heavy exercise days, I find that I am drawn to eating too much of a good thing. I hope you get some good news from the vet about PJ...our cats are so precious.

:flowerforyou: we had cold and rain today so no yard work, dog park, or walk with DH.......we had a high calorie lunch coupled with low calorie exercise so there were no calories for a mid afternoon snack.......I thought it would be another day of watching the clock til dinner and then DH suggested a nap. the two of us got in bed with both dogs and one cat and slept til suppertime:bigsmile:

:flowerforyou: Robin, I hope the weather was OK for you at the Mariners game......we want to go a few times this summer......I think that if I detour from my rigid healthy eating it will be with garlic fries:bigsmile: I have brought some of my own food in a giant purse and hope that the checkers at the gate aren't too thorough:laugh: with the high price of beer at the ball park, I'm surprised that anyone buys it.

:flowerforyou: remolding we are glad to have you join us........this thread is very encouraging.....it sounds like you have great motivation......can't wait to hear more from you.

It's my turn on the exercise bike so I gotta go....... hugs:heart: Barbie

    Hi everyone,

Sorry no time to read tonight but just wanted to check in.
I know I've been MIA,, but life has sort taken over lately, thats' keep me on the run. Works been crazy, with lot of overtime. then my FIL took a fall and ended up in the hospital..so me and hubby had to make a quick trip. they live about 600m way. these are times when I wish we lived closer to our families. But he'll be ok this time. I think we have them talked into moving though closer to BIL. So he can be there for them...Then I came home sick as a dog.(sorry) the Dr. told me I have an infection. and put me on meds. and after a week I starting to feel a little better.... but in the mean time.. I've been eating way to much and moving around way to little..So at weigh-in I was back up  i think I'm ready for this rollercoaster to end So I concentrate on me again.

last month goals sort of went out the window.
this month I hope will slow down, I need the work on eating better. and drinking my water.
and getting back on my exercise schudale.

Just wanted to say "Hi" to all of you. I've read all your posts. I planned to respond to them this weekend but, yesterday I was kind of a slug all day and kept getting distracted, although I did get some exercise in. It doesn't do my spirits any good at all to stay in the house all day, especially when it's beautiful out. Today was much better but a little hectic.

I took my 5-year old granddaughter, Olivia, out shopping. She must have tried on 20 outfits and wanted every one of them! It reminded me of taking my daughter out shopping in the old days. She tried on clothes and I oohed and ahh'd and hung up clothes.

We were going to go for a walk on the bike path after that but, right at the start, I saw someone lying across the path, with a couple of people standing around him. Got closer and saw that it was my grandson, Joe! He'd been riding with friends and went over the front of his bike. He might have a broken wrist (but not too bad a break). The doc said come see her first thing in the morning. We never got the walk in but I rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes then did some housework so I'm feeling pretty good about the day overall.

Tomorrow I go to see an old friend I haven't seen for almost a year, since before I lost this weight. It will be fun seeing her reaction. I did let her know I'm eating healthily these days so we wouldn't get into the usual (old days) feasting. She's a great cook. I'm going to make my smoked salmon, feta, tomato wraps for breakfast Tuesday.

Caminogirl, I was taking blood pressure meds in January. After losing 36 lbs (even though I still have a long way to go), I no longer need the meds and actually have really great blood pressure (100+ over 70 something). I'm astonished at how much difference losing weight and eating healthily make.

The gulf oil spill has been on my mind a lot too. What a disaster. I'm grateful to the people who are on the spot. I hope the well can be capped soon. The potential long-term harm is mind boggling.

Bedtime now, so I'll sign off.

    Hello Everyone,

After the comments on the thread and the very nice message one of our members sent me about being "glue" on the site , (don't think she meant "stick in the mud"  ) I decided to stick around. There was really no chance I would disappear completely. I wouldn't know what to do without this website and this thread.  :blushing:

Caminogirl--I second Mimi's comments about blood pressure meds. I had been on them for 9 years, and after losing about 50 lbs. my doctor reduced them by 75%. Another couple of months of regular exercise and some additional weight loss, and I am completely off them. I take a reading every week or so upon rising to make sure I am staying where I should be. The interesting thing is that when I was put on them to begin with, I weighed less than I do now!! I am a definite believer in the value of exercise for reducing BP.

Mimi--I hope your grandson mends quickly. So much for a nice relaxing Sunday!!--NOT!!

I went to church tonight and then visited a friend. We are both working on studying for the insurance license exam for our state, and we try to spend at least a couple of hours a week working together. We are very civilized about it. Tonight we had a dozen strawberries each, with a glass of Merlot and 2 squares of 60% dark chocolate. Yum!!

Doggies got hold of a box of grape tomatoes while I was out. Not much eating, but apparently there was a hockey game with tomatoes in lieu of a puck:noway: --even found some in the living room!!  They didn't squash them so I took and rinsed them and will still have almost a whole box.

Well, it is time to crash. Have a good Monday.

RebelRenny - I really liked what you wrote for an emotional contract - it strikes a good note - thanks for sharing it with us.
My sister has a phrase that goes "Not by issue, i cancelled that subscription!" yet sometimes it is still a challening thing to do!
