Strength vs. Cardio -
Right now I work out with a trainer 2 days a week for my BL program. We do all kinds of strength training. Not weight machines, but lots of stuff with hand weights and pilates equipment and things like that. I am supposed to do cardio 4-5 days a week, but this week I have really been a slacker and only done 2.0 -
I just had a spoon full of PB for a late afternoon snack (so I wouldn't be driving home past all those fast food restaurants on an empty tummy!). OH BOY is peanut butter YUMMY!:bigsmile:0

Good idea! I ended up going to the grocery store for a few things after work since the baby needed milk anyways...good job on making plans so that you can get excercise in!!! You are well on your way:drinker:

Hi Everyone,
Had a really tiring weekend but in a good way. We moved mountains, literally. We had a mountain of topsoil delivered, 40 cubic yards which is two dump truck loads. We used it to regrade and shape our yard and all by hand, shoveling dirt into wheelbarrows and raking it and rolling over with this 200lb drum roller. We did this Fri, Sat, Sun.. I am SOOOOO tired today, my shoulders got a killer workout. On the bright side I could basically eat whatever I wanted all weekend, and I did. We took the fiance's mother out for dinner on Saturday night for Mothers day and I splurged on a cheese plate ( thinking of you Mstahl), duck confit, champagne, roast chicken with the skin!, beet salad, chocolate cake, panacotta, we shared a lot of dishes and it was so good.
Friday - burned 1000 calories, ate 700 of them
Saturday - burned 1400 calories ate 400 of them
Sunday - burned 1850 calories, ate 800 of them
I did well with my water and I am proud f myself for being able to work so hard without getting worn out and needing to stop. That's what would have happened a year ago.
So, in exciting news this weekend I see that LittleSpy made it down to 199 :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: So happy for you!!!!!!
Mstahl - looking good in your new photo!!!!!!
Cris - I want to know what you decided for your weigh in plan and hope that your naughty weekend will just jumpstart your metabolism.
Heather - you need to talk to that so called friend of yours and tell her that you found out about not being invited and how that makes you feel. Do it now so you don't dwell on it. You can't control how she will react but you can choose to handle this like a mature woman....easy for me to say from here I know! Good luck with it :flowerforyou:0 -
I saw all the talk about frame size earlier,
I used this online calculator and it says I have a large frame. You need to measure your wrist.
http://www.medindia.net/patients/calculators/framesize1.asp
At 5'4" and large frame I was in good shape at 135 lbs ( so that's my goal), I was slimmer but less muscular at about 120
My BMI says I could do down as low as 107 and remain in the healthy range but I know that under about 120 I would start to look too skinny.0 -
Ok ladies, if you are the praying kin pleasesay prayers! Were headed home anneight towards tornadoes in Oklahoma! Please pray for a safe return home.Love you all0

I think pos_me was the biggest loser?? :drinker: :flowerforyou:
Cris
I thought Bluenote was the biggest loser this week since she lost almost 6 pounds....
Are we going by precent or weight loss?0 -

I did my "frame size calculation" based on my wrist (6.5 inches) so I am a medium frame...0
-
Thank you for the well wishes. It's scary stuff listening to the radio and them saying take cover tornado if you are in path. Yep were in path! I'll keep you all updated.0
-
pos_me, we go by percentage, so you're the biggest loser! (Congrats!)
My bf and I spent over 4 hours walking around the zoo! Walking the whole time pretty much (except for when I stopped to feed the baby goats & the lorikeets). We walked all around to see all of the animals and then took the scenic trails along the river all the way to the botanical garden part (which is over 1/2 mile away from the animal part) and walked all the way around it and then took the scenic trails back to the animal part & walked around some more. I'd venture to say we walked at least 7-8 miles. Maybe more! We had a great time! He took a picture of me feeding the lorikeets that I wanted to compare to the last picture he got of me feeding them. Big difference, and last time wasn't even at my highest weight.
So that made me feel better. A couple of times he said "Do you want me to take a picture of you" doing something (like sitting on one of the animal statues) and a couple of times I actually said yes! The best part was we went on a walking trail that had a warning about "steep hills" and I didn't think twice about taking it. I kept walking up and up and up and climbing stair after stair and hill after hill and all I could think was "Holy crap, I'm not out of breath!" I mean I wasn't even a little bit out of breath. It was awesome! I could even hear my bf (who's generally in decent shape) huffing a little and I don't know if my heart rate ever even got above 60 bpm. I was pretty happy about it.
Oh, and scenes like this are why I love South Carolina (because there's so much for me not to like here):

So it seems like everyones doing alright. Jess, I hope you have a safe trip home, stormy weather can be really nervewracking to drive through. LittleSpy, I love your zoo pictures! Very cute and again congrats on 199 lbs :flowerforyou:
I'll check in today
Calories: under (for now)
Water: Yes
Exercise: a little walking
Proud: I stuck to eating good food this weekend and today. I've been rewarded with 227 lbs on the scale and my size 22 pants falling down numerous times today while I was out.
I've been gone all weekend freaking out because on friday I was pulled into my bosses office and told I had been laid off. So. It will be a big adjustement, having a work schedule was one of the things that made it possible for me to adhere to MFP so easily. I hope losing my job doesnt effect my weight loss, though i'm happy to see a loss of the weekend. Maybe this change of pace is for the best. I'm going back to school and hopefully will finish in a year.0 -
The frame size calculator still says my frame size is large. But... I've obviously lost fat from my wrist because 8 months ago there was probably a good 1/2" between my fingers when I tried to reach my hand around my wrist. And now they barely touch. So, I still think I can probably lose more fat from my wrist which would change the measurement. Not that that's a goal or anything.
Wait a minute! I went all the way down to my wrist size being 4 inches at 5'4" and it still says my frame size is "large." ... What's up with that? Yeah, then I tried 6' tall and wrist circumference 4" and it still says "large." Something's not quite right there, eh? Is it just me?0 -

I think that website was way off... It said i was a large frame and it said my daughter was a large frame..and she is this itty bitty thing...and i tried playing with the wrist measurements and the height but it still gave me the same thing..no matter what i plugged in...
but I found this website and I thing it was more accurate..it said i was a medium and my daughter was a small...
http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/fsz
Maybe you have better luck with this website
And by the way, the Zoo pictures are so cute...you can really see a difference...AMAZING PROGRESS thus far...Keep it up girl0 -
OMG, I can't believe I am the biggest loser...so happy! I have never been the biggest loser...I hope i do this right..lol
This week's challenge will be to find a body part that need toning...for me that would be my upper arms...bat wings...lol.
http://realwomensfitness.com/upper-body-exercises/womens-beginner-arm-toning-workout/
you don't have to do Arm toning - what ever you want to do...just try it once this week. that is all i ask0 -
pos_me- its by %, CONGRATS! Wanna hear something funny? I just read brown bear to my son this morning! Well as much as he would let me ...he wont sit too long for books:laugh: brown bear brown bear what do you see...
jlb- WOW! Your post looks like one of those fake commercials where they get two separate people to do the before and after photos! Cant imagine how proud you are!
Jess- Please be careful and wait it out if you have to! Thinking of you!
Mari- Im sorry about you losing your job, things are so tough right now. On another note, CONGRATS ON 227!!!
Apparently Im a medium frame0 -
Thanks for that website, pos_me. It said I was a large frame, but that's the measurement of my wrist including all the fat. If I squeeze the tape measure really tight, I can shave off like another 1/4" and then I'm a medium frame. So I'm probably medium.
Thanks for the compliments on my pictures. It is a big improvement, but of course the pictures he took from below me where I have a massive double chin really smack me in the face with reality. "Yes, Julie, you have lost 70 pounds, that's great. Guess what -- you're still fat!" I'll get there. Wherever "there" is.
Mari -- awesome job on the 227!! You plunged right into those 220s, eh? Sorry about your job, but it sounds like it's a great opportunity for you to finish up your degree.
Thanks for the challenge, pos_me! I'm with you on those upper arms. I have a feeling that's going to be the area of my body I'm most self conscious of when this weight loss thing is all said & done so it's good to go ahead & get started now!
Hope you make it home safely, Jess! I'm thinking of you guys.
PS -- My boyfriend hit onederland today! (he kind of makes me sick, by the way. He's yet to actually *TRY* to lose weight!) The awesome thing is he said seeing that "1" made him want to actually try to get healthy & fit now. He can be a lot of talk and no action, though so we'll see.0 -
Well ladies....were pulled over at a gas station. Tornadoes are in front of us and behind us. Ready to take cover!0
-
Mari: sorry to hear you're losing your job. This is the best time to take advantage of finishing your degree...I have about a year too. but it's more like internship which is very hard to do especially if I still have the little one to take care of...I was taking evening or weekend classes but now I had to stop (temperarily) just until i can find a reasonable school for my son...so i took this semester off..for my family's sake.
Hopefully you will find a job soon, but in the meantime finish your degree. Stay positve! before I forget, Congrats on hitting 22*...pretty soon you will be out of the twenties...and into the teens...
Good luck girl0 -

I am sitting here cracking up at your measurement experience...ROTFL
And about your boyfriend...all guys are like that...my hubby says he can lose weight just by blinking. And for the most part He can! I bust my Butt working out and see a little loss and he does nothing and can lose twice as much as me...it drives me crazy.. He is all talk , a lot of bluff but no action...so i don't worry. We were back to back in weight but now i am 10 lighter than him and it makes him mad...that is when he started his smack talking but the only thing moving is his mouth..lol..
But I love the guy:blushing: He will be gone for 4 days...
Do you want to hear something funny? My husband told my youngest son to watch over me and the household...and to sleep in our bed to keep me safe...Now every where i go ( around the house) my son asks...mommy where are you going.. are you ok? I am the man of the house...that is what daddy said...
Now the man of the house is rubbing it in my older sons face...that daddy put him in charge...but i find it so cute..0 -
littlespy - Great pics, you look soo awesome!!! Glad you had a good time at the zoo.
mari - sorry about the job.
Jess - I hope you make it home safe soon. I have friends up in OK and they told me storms were coming through, i hope you get some shelter.
Pos - WTG on being biggest looser this week!!!
tonight was way tooo busy!! We can't do this evernight. We got home, ate, went to the gym and then target and home...girls were super cranky, we will have to give them baths in the morning, and didn't have time for hw either, will have to do that in the morning..ugggg... Maybe in the summer time it will be easier at night.
Good news i did great at the gym tonight...I did it... i did it, i did w1d1 ..well sorta...I skipped one of the runs in the middle, but i added it on the end so i figure it all evened out. Now i wasn't running fast...but i did run my intervals...Then after that i rode 2 miles on the bike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
pos_me, I like the challenge and I am going to do arms as well. Yes, it is by %, which means I'll never win but that's OK! I don't have a clue what I'd challenge anyway - probably for everyone to eat goldfish crackers or come visit me in Lou. :ohwell: Guess we're all lucky I never win! LOL Oh wait, I won one time - right after Christmas when everyone ate cookies and candy. LOL
mari - I am so sorry that you lost your job. I am praying for you.
jess - be careful, girl! You are in tornado alley! :noway:
I am running sound for a show right now, so I don't think I'll be able to get on every night. I just got home now at 9:30pm and I still have to ride the bike for 40 mins plus do my PT exercises. The show runs until Sunday, so if you don't see me, you'll see me Sunday or Monday! God knows I will not catch up on you Chatty Kathys  so someone better recap for me when I come back!
check in:
cals: great
water: 90
exercise: 40 bike + PT
proud: there are tons of sweets and snacks in the tech booth at the theatre that everyone brings to share. I have been including 200 calories of my food plan per night to eat a little bit of the snacks. So far I have only eaten about 100 calories' worth each night! Yay! Plus tonight I brought unsalted nuts to share and I just snacked on those! :happy:0 -
Mari: I'm sorry to hear about your job, but I like to believe everything happens for a reason, so you're supposed to be finishing your degree. Congrats on your near "pants on the ground" experience.
bluenote: Good job on the unsalted nuts to snack on. These small changes are what makes great progress.
Littlespy: Your pics are awesome! Isn't it great being able to tackle those hills without thinking about it? I love it!
Jess: Be safe! I'm hoping my sister and I don't run into weather like that on our way to Kansas. Tornadoes are scary stuff.
Tonight I had some super delicious ice cream in a waffle cone...a scoop of pineapple and a scoop of New York cherry, topped with a dab of cotton candy. Yum! Have I ever mentioned I love ice cream? At least dinner was sensible with grilled porkchops and sweet potato fries (homemade).
Alright, off to bed. I'm trying to get the weekend to move fast because I'm off on Friday! Woo hoo!0 -
Well we are finally almost home. We were pulled over for 1 1/2 hours locked In a gas station. We had 3 tornadoes around us. Scary stuff. Finally in Texas and about 20 mins from home. I will be back tomorrow. I'm exhausted and can't wait to be in my comfy bed!0
-
Jess: welcome home! I kept think of you and making a safe return back home.
Bluenote: great job on your small changes. I love all type of nuts! Yum!
Littledeb: great job goin to tje gym..
I am so glad you gals like the new challenge.
I will be back later.0 -
Jess: I'm so glad you're back home! Last night as it was raining and windy, I was thinking about you, hoping you'd be okay. On a brighter note, I heard that "Lover, Lover" song this morning on the radio and it is fairly catchy.0
-
Jess -- glad you made it home safely!!
Heather -- I'm also an ice cream freak. I used to have a routine that involved nearly eating an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's in ONE SITTING once EVERY week. :noway: Yes, I'm talking about a $200/year ice cream habit! Ugh! I haven't been tempted much lately but I still keep Breyers no sugar added ice cream in my freezer just in case of emergencies. Unfortunately there's a Sonic (drive-in & drive thru restaurant that is good for nothing but it's frozen treats) about a mile away from my house. So.... sometimes (like Sunday) that's dinner. At least Sunday I decided to try a Diet Dr Pepper float w/ chocolate added. It was AWESOME! and I'm not sure how many calories the chocolate added but the float alone is supposedly only 219 (assuming they don't give you too much ice cream in it... which I really think they did because there's just no way what I ended up with had only 219 cals).
Bluenote -- Great job with those snacks! I have such a hard time at wor sometimes because of all the unhealthy snacks people bring (I type as chocolate cupcakes and croissants sit on top of the file cabinets).
Lildeb -- Way to go at the gym! I know it may seem impossible at first mention with getting the girls ready for school & everything else you have to do in the morning, but see if there's a way to work it in. I always try to squeeze in at least 25-30 minutes of cardio in the morning and there are several reasons. 1. It wakes you up better than coffee 2. Gets those muscles burning more calories early (increases your metabolism) 3. You already got at least a little workout in so if something happens later and you just can't find a way to workout, no huge deal! Anyway, I despise getting up early but on days like today when I work 2 jobs, I'd hate getting home at 10pm having not worked out at all even more so I sure am glad I already got in 8 miles on the bike this morning!
On another note, I'm pretty sure I'm wearing the same pants today as I was wearing in my "before" zoo picture. They're very big on me, but not nearly as crazy big as some of the pants I've already had to give away and I wasn't able to wear them comfortably until I was down to like 230 or so.. They're 100% cotton so I'm sure they really did shrink quite a bit but regardless they're size 18. I was in a very very tight 20 (most of my 20s didn't fit) or a comfortable 22 when I started at MFP. In the picture, I know I had just been to the doctor a month before & weighed right around 265. Shortly after that I couldn't squeeze into those pants anymore. Man, I really wish I knew what my highest weight was because now I don't have any doubt it was more than 270. Probably closer to 280.
I just had 4 days off work and I'm still feeling really unproductive here. Then again, I could be crazy productive at work and still feel like that because this job is ridiculous. :ohwell:
And WHERE is awestfall?!0 -
Jess, glad you are back safe, OMG that's scary stuff. I have never been near a tornado and never want to be, yikes:flowerforyou:
Bluenote I read back and saw your posting about getting up the ladder, I love that, what a huge difference in your life. Love hearing all your new abilities :flowerforyou:0
