Any metal heads out there?

I wonder what a real metalhead would think of me. I listen to a ton of different music, most of it popular. I'm way into jazz, crooners, bluegrass, rock, hip-hop, and pop music in general. Some of my favorite acts (right now) are Steely Dan, Chet Baker, Elvis Costello, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Gorillaz, The Clash, the list goes on. Now, I do like some heavy metal, especially classics like Judas Priest (with Rob Halford), some Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, even a smattering of Slayer and Pantera.
But the nerdy side of me is totally taken by acts like Blind Guardian (especially Nightfall), Symphony X (The Odyssey), Hammers of Misfortune (Locust Years, August Engine), and my absolute favorite band right now is The Lord Weird Slough Feg. If you haven't checked out Slough Feg, I'd very seriously recommend listening to Traveler, Atavism, Hardworlder, Down Among the Deadmen, and Twilight of the Idols, in that order. Who's with me?!
I forgot... i love symphony X.
Symphony X is amazing. I saw them live last year and they're a fantastic live act. Russell Allen has ridiculous charisma.0 -
Love the 80's metal (my run playlist is almost all Metallica) but also:
Volbeat
Halestorm
In This Moment
Papa Roach
Five Finger Death Punch (current fave)
My Darkest Days0 -
My favourite bands are Tool, Nine Inch Nails and Paradise Lost. I've saw load's of bands live including Slipknot, Metallica, Machine Head and Type O Negative. Haven't been to a gig in ages though
How was Type O? I'm sad I'll never meet Pete Steele.
They were amazing. So glad I got to see them. RIP Pete Steele0 -
To play along, everyone seems to be posting some bands they've seen. I'll post a quick short list in no particular order of a few of the bands I've seen live, definitely leaving out dozens upon dozens of others but just a sample. Not all metal, some are other genres but I just threw the list together quick as they came to mind.

Thank God no one has said, "ASKING ALEXANDRIAAAAA"... At least if they have I haven't seen it.. Until I just said it.. But you know.
They're one of those bands I love to ignore. Along with a lot of the new screamy bands these days, like wth?0 -

Man that's such a good list. Some of those bands I haven't seen live but have met. I'm real lazy when it comes to actually attending a concert. People concern me. I have seen Marduk and Behemoth. Behemoth were amazing. Haven't seen Murderdolls or Drag Queens but have saw Wednesday. I've seen Goatwhore, Manson, Danzig, COB and Devil Driver. I did prefer seeing Coal Chamber though. It was like a childhood dream lol. I'm jealous of Suicide Silence =(0 -
Haha!! I just posted the same topic but no one responded to mine :sad:0
-
Phew, that list! I've only been to about 3 dozen shows, most of which were local bands. I've met a few good people, though. Coolest musician I met was Chrigel Glanzmann from Eluveitie. I need more time and more money. xD0
-
I'm torn between metal, old school punk, and classic country... I know, I'm weird.
You would love Volbeat then0 -

Eluviette sadly doesn't sound that great live. 25 people on one stage, sound check never got their instruments within the right balance. You hear drums, herdy gurdy, and yelling.
I've seen a lot f bands live- not to top her list, although a lot of them were punk.0 -

Gotta get out there! Seeing 'em live is always the best part.
Also, one of my parts of the metal scene is how chill everyone is. Very few guys too good to chill with you and have a drink at the bar0 -
Slayer is one of those bands that I really feel I need to see. Who knows when I'll get a chance, though.
Has anyone else seen a really good show recently? I just saw Varg, Wintersun and Eluveitie in December, and every band seriously killed it! They were all so nice, too. Except for Jari (Wintersun). He wouldn't even give me the time of day. =/0 -

Too true. I always regret it afterwards. Once I get past the certain type of scene there it's pretty good. I have to say the most chill people I've encountered where at Black Metal concerts. When you start going to gigs where they're mainly core you see the wanks come out. Just stuck up people. Around my area anyway.0 -
Deffinitly metal all the way \m/ I range anywhere from black sabbath to guns and roses to whitechapel lol! As long as its metal, I shall forever jam!0

Metallica is kind of my life at the moment. I've been agonizing over getting some lyrics tattooed for months now.
Me too. 'One' is my favourite song ever but 'Wherever I May Roam' is my anthem.
I've been listening to a lot of Turisas recently. I'm hoping they play more UK gigs this year than just Download.0 -

LOVE metal. Not a big fan of the black/death metal with cookie monster vocals, but I love stuff like Megadeth. My favorite metal subgenre is actually Power Metal (Helloween, Blind Guardian, etc)0
