Ooooh you better stop then!!!! Tracy Anderson has the best videos! You aren't allowed to use more than 3lbs dumbells to work out!!!

So funny you mention the 3s... my gym has a 'women's only' room. I went in looking for a squat rack but was met by 3 pound dumbbells instead. And they were pink (for real). Ya think I should do 20 or 30 reps with them? Or will that bulk me up too much? LOL.4 -
I am assuming you are working towards a competition. Great progress and yes lifting Heavy destroys fat as long as you are consistent with a good diet. This is good stuff. If you were to just lift light and easy with high reps you wouldnt have seen the results as fast as you did. Great Job.
I agree.0 -
Amazing work ladies...LIFT LIFT LIFT!!!!!1

I'm just incredibly vain and I'm not a fan of seeing a squishy version of myself in the mirror.
Also, being strong is pretty effing amazing.2 -
A collective gif for all the amazing-ness. Way to get it, ladies

There would be so much mad going on if my gym had that. You want to give me pink weights? Fine. but they better be these:

Ummmm DAMN! Awesome results
This is the coolest thread ever! I lift, not super heavy yet since I am still starting out, but you can't shape fat! You can only shape muscle, and it won't get bulky without man hormones or roids!!!! Keep lifting ladies you all are awesome!!!!!3 -

I just wanted to say that my diet has been pretty much crap for a long time but I've been consistent in heavy lifting. My body obviously still continued to change. I would've had more progress and better results if my diet was better BUT...heavy lifting really does allow you to eat more and not see huge scale jumps or extra rolls on the tummy, as can be seen in the side-by-side I posted. I still managed to lose 20# and firm up lots of areas....while eating pop tarts, ice cream, pizza, hamburgers, etc. I'm not willing to give those foods up YET...but I am sacrificing hard abs in the process (this I know). Lifting has allowed me to endure life's bull$hit with comfort foods while not adding weight back on. This is a huge win for me.0 -
You look magnificant!!! :drinker:
I just started lifting and I'm excited already! I was always into cardio but I found that lifting is a new and different challenge to me.
Loving it already0 -
:smokin: WOWZA!! Incredi-bulk!!! WTG !!!0

WOWWWW~~~!!!! How does one get started with a lifting program? I see things on the internet of course but have no idea how to do the exercises because they have names only, what weights are required, etc. Anyone point me in the right direction???? Do I have to buy a program or are there free workouts online? Looks like Stronglifts 5 x 5 requires a membership? 5/3/1 talks about weight lifting like I should know what they mean.
THIS!!! I need help knowing how to begin! I want to look like that!!! :-)0 -
me before i started lifting heavy- 145 pounds
me after lifting heavy holding my 18 month old. around 130 pounds- my profile pic is almost 2 years of heavy lifting.

Step one: source heavy weights. Look on craigslist for someone getting rid of their new years resolution bench, bar, and plates.
Step two: find a program. stronglifts 5x5 is free. It is just a workout program of alternating exercises - only five - squats, deadlift, overhead press, bench press, and bent-over rows.
Step three: find a competent trainer to help you learn your form. You can only learn so much from youtube videos and research. Proper form is the most important thing by far no question.
Other resources include New Rules of Lifting for Women and Starting Strength, but each of these requires purchasing a book.
Stronglifts just requires an e-mail address. They mail you the material and put you on their mailing list. I unsubscribed but kept the workout program and used their excel spreadsheet (for tracking my lifts).
We got a bench free off craigslist.
Total investment: $0.
Total return: incalculable.9 -

Not being mean, but you'd assume wrong. I've found most of the women on here who lift heavy (such as the OP) are not working towards a competition. And lifting light wouldn't have gotten the same results. Faster or not, in my opinion. Also, not sure what you mean by good diet but I'll assume you mean meeting your macros, and with that I'll agree.0 -
Also wanted to get in on the fun. From last September to this morning, though I only began picking heavy things up and putting them down recently. I weighed 143 then, and am up a few pounds now. Imagine where I could be if I had started sooner!

YES NICE WORK LADIES!!!
PICK UP THOSE WEIGHTS!!
I've stayed the same weight for a year HOWEVER my body fat percentage has gone down 10%
Get a good strong foundation and just keep building on it with the weight lifting.
You will find that you can go do those yoga classes and little cardio boot camp classes like nothing BUT can those girls who only do the cardio boot camp classes come lift those weights??
A good foundational base strength will let you do anything athletic that you wish to do in your day to day life!
