I did! Enjoyed them. Several of us here at the office read them.0

I read the whole set to see what all the hype was about, I kept reading hoping it would get better - but it didn't  (good thing I got the set on a deal:grumble: ) . As others have mentioned, it lacks character development and feels like it was written by a 15 year old :S.
Also the fact 'he's an abusive psychopath but has money so it's allll goood' didn't really sit well with me either. >.>0 -
I enjoyed it. You'll find a lot of people who complain about the writing, but E L James doesn't claim to be a writer. I liked the story and it opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. My husband is VERY happy....hahaha!
If you want a good follow-up, read Bared to You by Sylvia James. I honestly can't decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross. YUM!
Oh yes!!!! Bared to you is an awesome read!! Trying to decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross is hard though! Although I am leaning more towards Gideon!!!
Can I not have them both?
Well, yes you can!0 -
read it and loved it. loaned it to a friend but may read it again when I get it back0
-
i read them all in 4 days. i was addicted one might say. lol. i just hate that it was a twilight fan fiction before it was published.0
-
There's better BDSM stuff out there on the internets for free.
But to answer your question, no I have not read them.0 -
I'm not a fan. I struggled through the first book, got a short way into the second and that was all I could manage.
Ana's constant "oh my"ing made me want to beat her....and not in a sexual sense and don't get me started on her lousy "inner goddess".
I think the thing that irritates me the most about this who Fifty Shades thing is that many people have been into BDSM and erotic fiction way before these books were even conceived but it wasn't something you talked about outside of those circles because you were considered a pervert.
Now because of Christian bloody Grey and Anastasia pointless Steele, you've got all these people who think they are the first person to brandish a whip and because they are doing so this makes them new and original.....
Okay, that's the end of MY rant :laugh:0 -
started reading the first one...don't really think torture is sexy so I've had trouble going back to it...I'll finish it evenutally...and I have the othe two since everyone was SURE I'd love it.0

I do get slightly insulted, as a writer and editor, when ****ty writing becomes this vastly popular, but it happens - Twilight, 50 Shades, or basically every book in the damned "Teen Paranormal Romance" section.
I'm glad it's making people more open to BDSM.
Though I'm gonna be honest - I work at my neighborhood pool, and I see middle aged suburban mommies sitting at the side of the pool reading porn while they watch their kids swim. Weirds me out a bit - especially when they make strange facial expressions when they're reading.0 -
I have read all 3 books..Love it! I don't care what others think about the book its what i want to read... Now to look for more book like 50 Shades...   :laugh:0

reading the first one, and so far its good. definitly wasnt wasnt expecting what I read LOL0
-
I read all three in a week. I liked them.0
-
Loved them! I read all three in about 5 days.
I'm excited to see who they'll pick for the movie characters.
There were quite a few annoyances re: the writing, but the story (yes, there was actually a storyline...lol) was gripping enough to hold my attention.
no there wasn't unless - sex, talk about relationship, sex, talk about relationship, sex, talk about relationship etc is a story. oh, and not even good sex.
movie - lol0 -
I read all three and was quite disturbed at the way they portrayed BDSM.
BDSM is SSC = safe, sane and consentual. It is not about someone wanting to "beat the living *kitten*" out of someone that looked like their mother to get off.
I can see how it is referred to as mommy porn or eye crack for those who are in vanilla lifestyles.
It was a quick and amusing read.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! This has completely made my day!!0 -

Its sucked! I read 1 & 2 and could not finish the 3rd it was sooo bad. A lot of sex but no real character development or romance. The sex wasnt even that kinky0
-
I'm pretty sure this post would go in a different section...0
-
I am on the 3rd one, and I am struggling!!! I liked the first one, struggled through the seconde one and am once again struggling!!! I love Christian and Taylor!! All my friends have raved about them but I am really struggling!! I think I am just ready for a new series! I won't watch the movie, not sure the elements I want will be able to be filmed!! lol0
-
How many have read this book?
I read all three in about a week as well, after I got past the shockingly graphic nature of it! I was not expecting an overly amazing story it was just so different from what I would normally read!0 -
I don't think I was ever more annoyed with a book. (I want to punch her inner goddess down...there)
But I suppose I can't say anything because I did read all 3.
Atleast it kept me entertained.0 -
Hummm Loved those novels! They remind me of someone...;)0
-
No- I have a teen son at home. If he saw me reading that or got hold of the book...
Not that I don't want to read them though! Just gonna have to be when he's not around.0 -
Absolutely the worst book. I wanted to see what the hype was, and I am struggling to finish it. It's all been said here - horribly pathetic writing, poor character development, very little plot, repetivitive phrasing, and did I mention BORING? Even the sex scenes were boring and so predictable. Christian is an overrated abuser and has no depth. I would've kicked his *kitten* three ways from Sunday for beating me for "rolling my eyes". I want to smack the **** out of stupid Ana. Get some self respect! I will not read the other 2. Nor will I see the movies - how the hell can they make movies out of these books? Without overt sex scenes, there's no story and no characters to like. They better get a hell of a good screenwriter to fix this train wreck.
The only thing I regret is that I didn't take a weekend to write them myself and make millions. Then sell the rights to Vivid Video so they could make a bad porn and i could make even more money. 50 Shades of Millions........0 -
I read the first one and couldn't get past that because I wanted to punch her inner goddess. The sex scenes were mediocre and did nothing to get me hot and bothered. Definitely never reading the rest.0
-
gotta say my sister wanted to read them, and kept shoving random quotes there, i loved them and thought they were pretty good books but by the end of the third book i had had enough and was ready for them to end but all in all i love them0
-
First 5 chapters are boring and the main character is soooo whiney.
The "steamy" parts are not realistic and I thought they were silly.
Best chapter of all was the last chapter of book 3.0 -

Not that I don't want to read them though! Just gonna have to be when he's not around.
He never goes out of the house? It's in ever store that sells books. I'm betting he wouldn't bother picking up something Mom was reading, anyway.0 -
I'm in the middle of reading the Trilogy now. Almost done book 2....love it0
