FYI, for yogurt there is a brand called "Cascade" that is fruit juice sweetened only. It is available only in my health food grocery stores but we have discount health food here called "Sunflower" so that's where I get it. I don't even see it at Trader Joe's only at Sunflower and Whole Foods, but it is very yummy and nutritious and low on calories. At TJ's they do have some Greek Yogurt as well that is "okay" (no corn syrup) but more costly.

Thanks so much for that Pos me!
It sounds a lot easier than I thought. I not only like to eat yogurt, but I'm always putting it in smoothies in the summer & I loooooovvvvee tzatziki so I'll probably try straining it a little to make that.

I jump in and ask a question about the homemade yogurt? Have you ever made it flavored (like vanilla) and if so, do you have a recommendation for how much extract to use??

I put it on top of my oatmeal every morning for breakfast and sometimes for a snack in the afternoon.

    you very welcome

Yogurt is a stable in our family..we eat it with everything...that is why we are consistly running out.

i give this recipes to everyone who tries my yogurt...thinking it's store bought...

Jib..try making a smaller container ( 8 oz or so...but reduce the tablespoon of yogurt to about a 1/2 - to 1 teaspoon of yogurt) first and if you got the hang of it...which i am sure you will..but on a safe side..

i usually make cucumber dip with yogurt...or taziki with home made falafel ( another favorate of mine)..

    Enjoy!

I have never made flavored yogurt..but you can add the flavoring once you have completed the yogurt ( made and chiling in the fridge) and you are about to eat it..just add some extract..to suit your taste.

Good afternoon ladies... Today the sun is shining and it is short sleeve weather outside in the 50's.. I so.. love Colorado.. So for today is going well! day 3 in a row! whoo hoo!

awestfall......... I do hope you get better soon! Give yourself a little rest:yawn:
Stephanie08.. size 16.. wow.. i am impressed.. and putting your bra on without getting a cramp IS something to be proud of! I would be happy getting back into a size 18 (I am in a 24 now, started at a 28) applause:flowerforyou:
lstpaul............ Hang in there... we all have ups and downs.. today is a new day! Keep you head up!
Jib123 ........... 46"-35"-47" wow.. that is great! Keep up the great job! :flowerforyou:
Renea_Kay..... Hang in there.. this site will help you make positive changes and get you to be a little healthier. You have taken the first step by joining MFP and our group! Everyone here is a FABULOUS help! and I agree with Jib123.. great suggestions!
Thanks everyone for the advice. Maybe i will get up tomorrow and have a bowl of cereal. That would probably help. :)

You need to add some PROTEIN, you know, the stuff that your muscles need to exist (your heart's a muscle, by the way!).
Add 2 tbs of peanut butter to that apple & drink 8 ounces of milk. That'll add 300 calories to breakfast (and you'll feel so much better all day because of it).
Eat 4 ounces of (not breaded or deep fried) chicken breast along with that orange (another 100 calories).

Then add some vegetables to dinner and throw in 4 ounces of yogurt and and ounce of (unsalted) nuts as a snack and there you go -- that would be a much more decently well balanced low calorie meal plan.

Did you know if you eat too few calories (and by too few, I mean anything under 1000 for SURE and you should probably be eating several hundred more than 1000 as the other girls have suggested), your body will start conserving all your fat and you could actually GAIN weight? And at that point, your body would start eating your muscles and your major organs would be damaged and you may screw up your metabolism to the point that you will have hormone and weight issues for the rest of your life. Of course, neither you nor I want that to happen to you, so please please please eat more QUALITY food (and, in general, most cereal is not "quality" food).
mstahl.............. 1 whole inch.. that is a wonderful accomplishment! You are heading in the right direction.. I am proud of you! :smooched:
Positively_Me.... Yes.. I agree.. once you get the "crap/sugar" out of your system it is not nearly as appealing!
Rororosie ......... Hang in there.. It sounds like you have identified the issues, that is the 1/2 the battle. Keep your head up and it will get better with a little perseverance and thanks for the great yogurt recipe!
Momma2four..... great to see you today.. thanks for the idea.. For Mexican for the family I will throw in a 4 chicken breasts, a can of salsa, a can of beans (pinto, black, whatever you like) that have been rinsed and little water.. let them cook all day.. then shred the chicken put back in the Crockpot and add 4oz of fat free cream cheese. mix well and serve with the mission balance wheat tortillas.. Yummy and the kids love it!

I hope the rest of you are having a wonderful day! If I have missed you.. .please forgive me..
  • Hello,

Yes, I tried it a few years ago, 6 week body makeover diet does work great but it is very hard to follow. Mostly because you are not allowed to have any salt on your food which for me makes it very hard to stick with. In 3 weeks I lost about 15 lbs but then gave up it was too hard having no flavor in my food.

A days menu would probably be -
Oatmeal for breakfast with a protein (usually no red meat in plan) Depending on your body type you can also have certain berries
Lunch- Lean Protein (chicken, turkey, fish) 3-4oz , Rice or Small Potato and Green Veggie 2-4oz
Dinner- Lean Protein 4oz and Green Veggie 4oz
You are supposed to eat every 2-3 hours on the diet so in between you can either have your allowed fruit and protein or just protein and greens. You are not allowed any dairy, salt, sugar, bread and you are limited on your carb intake.

Right now I am on the 1st personal diet so far so good, check out the website, it is very hard for to me loose weight and this one has worked and your allowed seasonings. With this diet I have lot 12 lb. in one week and have no desire to stop. Both diets are both very strict and somewhat similar on the portions, protein/ veggie ratio, the foods your allowed to eat and the spices allowed to use. 1st personal diet is a little more strict with your food and you do not eat as much but I can season my food which is very important. If you are strong and can go without salt try the 6 week body makeover because it does work.
Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your search. =)

Uhg! :grumble: No exercise today and I can TELL - sluggish and yucky feeling! I ate too much for lunch (black bean lettuce wraps yummy!) and now I just want to pack up all my stuff, head home and nap all night:yawn: !

I think I'll pack up my stuff, head home, change, get on that elliptical machine for 50 minutes, and eat some left over black beans for dinner with a glass (or three) of red wine instead. That should be a good plan!

I must be hungry ALL your food suggestions are wonderful. I'm wanting some Mexican RIGHT NOW, sounds fabulous Coloradogirl. Positively_me thanks for the yogurt recipe I am going to have to try it. Also what is you recipe for cucumber dip?

hajohnson: Today I also did the Leslie Sansone with hand weights and I am a puddle of sweat. The weights sure kicks it up a notch. I'm cheering for you to kick some butt on your cocky buddies on your Biggest Loser. How is it going?

We need a good snow storm. It has been so cold for so long that the snow is too icy. I live in a state with the logo "The greatest snow on earth!" So where is it?!? Bring it on...

    Cucumber dip:

    1 small cucumber, finely chpped
1 small clove of garlic, minced
1 tablespoon mint, dry is fine, chopped/crushed small
1 teaspoon dill, dry is fine, chopped small
1/2 cup yogurt ( can mix some sour cream if you like)
1 tablespoon lemon juice (depending on you - you can adjust to your liking)
    salt to taste

Mix all ingredients in a bowl..adjust the taste to how you like it..

    enjoy!

Oh that sounds divine and so refreshing. I can't wait to pick a fresh cucumber out of my garden this summer and make it. I may have to buy a cucumber from the store just to try it sooner. Oh thank you! I love delicious food. Yes I live in Utah. Every licence plate states "The greatest snow on earth"... We live in a beautiful mountain valley near Snowbasin which was one of the Olympic venues and love it here.

mstahl: I have never had a lettuce wrap. What variety of lettuce do you use? One inch melted off you from your healthy eating. Good job. You guy are killing me with your food. I'm looking in my fridge thinking uuugg. Guess I'm in a rut, thanks for your new ideas. Keep them a coming.

Hey thanks I needed that. Today I have managed to avoid the binging so far and my plan is to pack up here in an hour and go to my belly dance drill class for the first time in 3 months. This will possibly bring on some endorphins, some muscle soreness tomorrow, and some feeling of having fun.
I also drank some sugar free hot cocoa. I don't think it is a bad thing...:ohwell:
I am not to thank for the great yogurt recipe... I am the lazy one who busy fruit-sweetened yogurt from the health food store. I think making it sounds nifty but for now will remain lazy, but your ideas are making me hungry for your home made yogurt ladies!

This is such a lovely breakfast. And when I was trying to do the Abs Diet I would add some sunflower seeds to it to make it a more complete meal. Oh berries are so wonderful to me -- so low cal, so delicious, and so full of nutrition! I like to sweeten it with stevia which is a no calorie sweetener that doesn't give me any side effects and is good for the blood sugar issues!

Checking in for yesterday...and venting! here we go!

    1-12-10

    Calories: right on
    Water: More than enough
Excercise: 20 minutes light cleaning, 17 minutes on the gazelle. Man that thing is suprisingly hard!

Proud: That I exercised and didnt go over calories.

First of all, last night i was watching Biggest Loser when I was exercising. Have you guys noticed how commercial this show is? I mean, its a great show, but every other word/thing is a freaking advertisement. That, and they plug their crazy website, but they wont ever help you untill you hand your credit card over...and a biggest loser ranch out in the midwest? are you kidding? Its like fat camp for rich people I bet. ugh. Extra sugar free gum this, extra sugar free gum that...Lets use our state of the art GE equipment to show us how fat you are! etc etc. I dunno, product placement is just kind of gross in my opinion.

Also pissing me off today (and alot of other times) Is one of my best friends. you could cut a diamond on him, he's just skin and bones. And apparently he kind of likes me (he's a little too girly for my tastes.) He's made it known to me before that he doesnt like fat chicks, and thats fine, but he's just so hurtful sometimes the way he behaves (he'll flirt with me and stuff, but after he told me he thinks I'm unattractive, what the heck am I supposed to do?!). He was doing gesture drawings to study anatomy and he needed maybe some of his female friends to help. Of course he tells me that he's going to have one of his manliest looking female friends do it for him, and she's like a rectangle! I have more lady curves, I look more like a woman than her, but no. Dont treat me like an attractive girl because I'm fat, and fatties are icky. I cannot WAIT to slap him in the face with a big, fat "NO" when he all of a sudden wants to date me when I get skinny. Ugh. Stupid men dont get it sometimes. I'm right in front of him and he asks someone else who has no shape. Of course I'm upset. People make me feel like I'm not a woman (or even a person!) sometimes when they treat me differently...

MariSama, to me a man that is skin and bones is sooo unattractive. Teenage boys are skin and bones, much more interested in a man. Keep your chin up. You are better than that.

Okay, here it goes. I did Leslie Sansone walk fit 5 day slim down. I went 4 miles in 1 hour. Then I did a Leslie Sansone " you can do it Pilates" Yes my big butt did Pilates.:noway: I am amazed with my self. My 16 yo did it with me. She was able to stay at certain postitions longer than I , but she also is fit and I am not. She wants to start doing Pilates with me 3 days aweek. She is slightly taller than me and we are built simularly (I have a bigger butt and smaller waist when I am thin though) So while she is in there exercising with me it is like I can see what my results are going to be in the end. It is motivation to me. I also found out today that I have shrunk, yah, not sure but I lost some height. I wonder could it be my weight? I have always said I was 5'2 and I was barely but right there close. found out today I am slightly over 5'1.:noway: The shorter I get the more weight I will have to lose. I am hoping when I lose some weight I will regain my height. Hopefully nothing to be worried about.

    Anyways,

    Calories: 1600
Water: almost there, I will do it though I promise
exercise" That would be a big fat YES

I am proud that I started out saying I am going to go 2 miles and went 4, then I actually got on the ground and did Pilates.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that BL has to stoop to advertisements in the show, but now that most all live in TivoLand, we fast forward commercials. And fast-forwarding commercials does not bring cash to the show. Therefore, they have to start putting commercials into the shows. I am seeing it everywhere and I hate it, too.

I am loving the homemade yogurt recipe. Thanks! I had NO idea how to make it at home! I am going to try it.

Renea - I think eating the cereal is a good start, but as the ladies on here said, try going for healthier choices. You can do it! We are all here to help. :flowerforyou: Just PLEASE remember that you NEED TO EAT your calories. TRUST us because we've been there. The mindset of not eating a lot to lose weight will cause major health problems for you. Plus it will screw up your metabolism - which means you will be stuck with gaining and losing your entire life. Don't do it! Do it the SAFE way NOW, so that you don't have to keep going on diets your entire life.

Today was so blah...Home today with my 3 yo being sick, luckily she slept most of the day and was able to work and didn't have to take any sick time.

my older daughter was sooo bad today at school, she peed on herself 2x and spent all day in the ofifce for refusing to do her work. He teacher sent home a permission slip for her to have up to 6 sessions with the counselor to see if that helps. Hopefully it does, or at least to some insight , we may have to continue with some outside counseling i just want her to be better.

I ate okay today, i have to still put my cals in. i didn't get my wii workout at lunch today as my lunch was spent taking care of the little one. About to do my wii ea active though.

Oh I want to comment on everyone's day!!!! but I have not time.

I got home -changed, drank a bottle of water, got on that elliptical machine and stayed on it for 50 minutes!

Easy good cheap calories you can take with you to school or work - hard boiled eggs - fat makes you feel good, protein to feed you body... I keep a few at work

    Today -
Calories - ate my exercise but otherwise under
Water - under (still working on it)
    Exercise YES!

Proud - that I came home and got on that beast and stayed on it for 50 minutes!

FOOD: Black Bean lettuce wraps - Rinse canned black beans add a little water and simmer with your favorite seasoning for meat - we use taco seasoning the most but curry works great!. Lettuce wraps - I use cabbage leaves myself because they are so sturdy - but bib lettuce works GREAT! Toppings - low fat cheese or fat free yogurt if you like!

Just put a spoon full of beans on your lettuce, add a topping if you like, and start eating!

I par-boil the cabbage leaves (just dunk em in boiling water for a few minutes then rinse them off) and it makes them flexible - you can wrap up the beans like a burrito!

With the curry beans we had goat cheese crumbles and plain yogurt, With the taco beans I had low fat cheddar...

    Super simple, fast and YUM!
