May Day Challenge!

Thank for the suggestions Our gang. I have two unhealthy snacks that I absolutely love. The first is Tostitos w/Jalepeno and the other is Caramel and cheese popcorn. I can't buy any b/c I'm guaranteed to eat the entire bag. The tostitos cost me 1400 calories one time and the caramel/cheese popcorn was over 700 cal. Needless to say I can't eat those.
While I do eat veggies almost daily (salads and broccoli are my favorite) I don't know how in the world I would get in 5 servings in a day. I love fruit so that's pretty easy but any suggestions about how to get that many veggies in one day?0 -
Hello all! Well last night was horrible! Not from an eating/food stand point, but from a sleeping stand point. Ray, my 2yo who has pink eye and a cold, woke up around 2am or so. Crying, but couldn't understand what he was trying to tell me.:frown: Finally got him calmed down enough to understand he had "coughs." Ok, out with the cold and allergy meds (shhh, don't tell the FDA I still give it to my kids who aren't 6 yet ). After his meds, he laid down and I THOUGHT he was going back to sleep. (By now it's about 2:45 or so.) At about 3am, he starts crying again. This time he has "snots." *sigh* Kleenex to the rescue. Back to bed. Crying again. Now his ear hurts. Out comes the ibuprofen (NOT an ingredient in the previous meds and OK to take with it, I checked:blushing: ). Now he doesn't want to be in his bed, he wants to sleep on the couch, probably because it reclines and keeps his head up higher than his pillow. Didn't manage to get any sleep in the time we were on the couch. Then he wanted to go back to his bed. FINALLY, at about 4:45 he went back to sleep and did not wake up again until DH and Ruth (5yo) got up to get ready for school and work. Even though he woke up at that point, he justs came and crawled in bed with me (thankfully I had already called in and sent sub plans to the secretary via email). We proceded to sleep until 9:45. I know that I still got my usual 7ish hours of sleep, but I am SOOO tired:yawn: He just finally went down for his nap. I'm going to try to up my energy level by doing a little Wii Fit. I think boxing may be called for.
Thanks for listening to my rant:blushing: I hope everyone is having a great day!0 -
Lisa, rant away, that's what we're here for. I'm sorry your son is not feeling well but it sounds like momma came to the rescue. I too failed to get rest but I don't have any children so I don't know what the heck my problem is.
Hope you're able to rock it out w/the Wii.0 -
I'm about to go watch my favorite series HBO's The Wire and wanted to count another semi successful day.
Chocolickkyss: 3 Sweets: 1 (I counted the Lay's Potato chips, I know they're salty but wasnt sure if I should count them just b/c they're not the healthies choice) I still stayed within my allotted calories so they definitely didn't break the bank. If I don't have to count the chips then my tally would be Chocolickkyss: 4 Sweets: 0
Chocolickkyss: 4 Fast Foods: 00 -
Poor Ray! I hope he and you feel better soon!0

Ok, so at 10 minutes till 5pm I get a phone call from my daycare lady. She "forgot" to mention that I would need a Dr. note b4 Ray can go back to daycare:grumble: So I call the office. All the dr.s are gone for the day, and won't return until 8:30 tomorrow morning. So I call DC lady back and explain this to her. She will not allow Ray at DC until she has the note in hand. Ok, I get the not wanting to get other kids sick, but I have to send the Rx to DC so that she can give it to him once during the day. Hmmmm, don't you usually have to go to a Dr to get an Rx? But that's not good enough. Sooooo, DH is taking the morning off to call the Dr, get the note, and then wait for the fax confirmation before he takes Ray over there. His boss basically told him (due to more than this, it's been a long time coming) that we need to find new daycare.
What is really the icing on the cake is that when she told me she was closing for 3 days, she made it sound like it was at her dr's advice. But oh no, apparently she has been turned in to the health department for noncompliance with the regs about illness, etc. Her dr was not the one who closed her down, the health department MADE her close so they could reinspect!:noway:
I understand that parents who send their kids to DC sick help cause this problem, but since I don't know which parent it is that keeps sending their kids sick, I am :explode: with her. She has been SUPER picky when Ray is sick, beyond anything I've dealt with at any other daycare. Why didn't she "fire" whatever parent it is that's been doing this way back when she got written up for it? I will admit to having to pick Ray up a couple times because he started running a fever or he started having "greenish discharge" (sorry for the mind picture) from his nose. Each time she's acted like it was major felony each time. I'm sorry. If the kid was acting fine and didn't have a runny nose when I sent him, how was I supposed to know he was going to develop those things during the day?
Sorry. Just a very stressful time from about 4pm to 7 or so this evening. I am trying to work my from :explode:  :explode: down to merely :grumble: All of it just makes me want to either pull my hair out or  Ray really likes her. Ruth likes her. She does preschool activities with Ray every day, and he's really learning a lot. As important as those things are, if DH loses his job over it, it's just not worth it! (I do want to make it clear that his work has been MORE than understanding. He's late every day because she doesn't open in time for me to drop Ray off or for DH to drop him off and make it work by 8am. More than once, they have let him switch his day off unexpectedly because she has had to close for one reason or another, or he had to go pick up Ray. They've been great, but you can't expect them to put up with it forever.) At least we can place the blame for having to leave on his boss. We live in a VERY small town (no grocery store, one gas station that isn't open past 9pm) and things like this can make it rough.
Ok. Thank you for putting up with me today. Two rants in less than 12 hours is probably a little much! We'll figure out what to do, but it's not going to be fun. I'm afraid Ray will be :brokenheart: when he finds out he won't be going there anymore. Hopefully we can find someplace better for all of us. *sigh* Well, I am off to bed. Last night was a short night, and tomorrow will be a rough day. The good news in all of this is that I did not medicate my stress with food:bigsmile: I really wanted to, oh how I wanted to, but I resisted and told you all about it instead. So THANKS!!:flowerforyou:0 -

Totally understand how hard it is with sick kids. Luckily I do not have to deal with DC but have been up with coughing kids this week and last week, one then another. My kids have asthma so every time they get sick it flares the asthma up and they cannot stop coughing!! It drives me nuts and I feel so sorry for them. Ultimately, no matter what I do as far as steamy bathes, albuterol treatments, ex cetera they always end up on steroids and then they are bouncing off the walls but it does kick the cough.
Hang in there!! I always think, okay next week at this time.....

So i had to do it, I ate the last 2 van. cream cookies in the cabinet.:blushing: And they were good, and now they are no longer calling me!!! I did however fight off the pizza hut calling me and stuck to my meal plan yesterday. I packed a yummy salad for today and I am ready to weight in tomorrow morning!!!!!
God Bless0 -
Hey all! I have been doing okay with the challenges. I have gone the past 4 days with only 1 sweet, and I only ate it because I was craving something sweet and completely forgot about the sweet challenge. I've been staying within the calorie range for the most part - went over by 64 cals yesterday, but I also was on my feet most of the day yesterday so I'm thinking I probably burned up the extra cals just by doing that.
I am going to try and do the weekend challenge again, plan out meals ahead of time, and try to stick to my plan.
I think another working out challenge might be helpful for me next week!
Hope you're all doing well!

Lisa, I'm sorry to read you're having so many problems w/your DC provider. I can't relate b/c I don't have children but can only imagine how frustrating it can be. As I stated in a previous post use this venue to rant all you want b/c it's therapeutic in so many ways and that's what we are here for.
Hope Ray feels better soon and you regain your sanity.0 -
I'm so glad today is Thursday b/c I 'm sooooo looking forward to the long weekend. Since I had more energy today than I did yesterday I went to gym and rocked it out again. I was able to burn 300 calories on the stairmaster and 320 on the elliptical machine. My legs are a bit sore from the Biggest Loser and Jillian dvds and today I added more resistance to the elliptical. Since I'm approaching my goal weight I'm trying to figure out what needs to be done to get toned.
I'm looking forward to lunch today b/c it the 2nd half of my birthday dinner (spicy shrimp, rice, plantains, black beans and mango salsa). I decided to eat a heavy lunch but a light dinner (grilled chicken and broccoli) hope I don't regret this lunch when I step on the scale tomorrow.0 -
I had weigh in for the BL challenge at my school today. Their scale I was down 2lbs, but I wasn't wearing the EXACT same clothes, so that may account for some of it. Hopefully I really am down at least 1lb for weigh in tomorrow. (I don't log the weight I get here at school b/c they have us weigh fully clothed WITH shoes on.) Today has been a good day so far. Breakfast was a little lighter than I would have liked, but I ran out of time to eat all of it. I will make it up in snacks later, I'm sure:grumble: Good news is that I did the Wii Fit yesterday, and I'm feeling much peppier today. Even with all the stress, I'm feeling better. Coincidence? I hope not. I'm going to try add some more exercises with the balance ball tonight after I get done on the Wii.
I was thinking next week's challenge or challenges could be exercise and water. How does everyone feel about that? Any other ideas?0 -
Lisa, what kind of exercise and water challenge do you have in mind. Whatever we decide on for next week's challenge is fine with me but I would like to also add that next week we should post something that we did for ourselves. I'm participating on another thread where we have to attempt to do something relaxing/fun for ourselves and I enjoy posting that. We work so hard to stay w/in calories and exercise, take care of our family and work obligations that often times we forget to take care of ourselves and I think we should begin doing that as well.0
-
I am good with the water/exercise challange. I am also going to try another personal challange I had for myself for this week that did not go so well. I am going to try not to eat out breakfast or lunch all next week. I tried this week but it didn't go well. I am hoping the scale went down but I have only been able to get 1 workout in this week (hubby has a weird work schedule and don't want to wake him)0
-
what kind of exercise and water challenge do you have in mind.
How 'bout for the water, we challenge ourselves to get at LEAST 8 cups a day for 7 days. And for the exercise we can do 5 30min workouts in 7 days.I would like to also add that next week we should post something that we did for ourselves.
That is a great challenge for me! I have a wonderful MIL who is ALWAYS harping on me to take care of me first. (I think she speaks from experience! ) I tend to forget that. Example: My glasses have been broken since mid-September, but I keep putting off getting them replaced (repairing them is impossible, parts are no longer made for my frames:ohwell: ). MIL almost went balistic over Christmas when she realized that I STILL hadn't gotten that done. So perhaps that will be my challenge for next week. To get to the eye doctor so I can get a new prescription and then get glasses from the website my BIL gave me (glasses start at $10:noway: ).
I this idea Chocolickkyss!0 -
I have completed another day.
logged all my foods
stayed under my calories
drank my water
went linedancing starts at 9:30 and is over at 11:00 had 2 -10 min breaks
went shopping to get some pictures to put in my brothers room to brighten it up a little he is a little depressed because he won't be able to go home for the weekend. It has been 7 months since his accident and we think he will be able to start puree foods soon.
I weigh in tomorrow hope I lost some weight. This will be my first time since I started this.0 -

It has been a good week. I've met this week's challenge by not eating any sweets or eating any fast food and I've exercised for at least 30 minutes everyday since last Friday. I've logged all my food this week and have been w/in my allotted calories. I've drank on average 11 glasses of water daily and as a result I have seen a .5 lbs loss.
While I don't really feel like exercising today I'm going to do a fun Latin cardio dance dvd just to change things up a little.
I'll check back in once that's done.

I have no idea how I lost 3lbs this week. I guess just getting back into our usual rhythm helped? That and I tend to NOT eat during times of high stress. So that probably helped. I've also been much better about my sodium and I've been drinking a lot more water. (I got a bigger bottle so I don't have to fill it up as often:laugh: )
I hope everyone else is having a good weigh in day, too!0 -
I would like to know how to get the ticker on here could someone help
Click on the "Tools" tab up top. On the right is a link to the ticker place. If I remember right, it pretty much walks you through everything you should do. Once you have set up your ticker, you'll need to get the code for it (should be a link to that somewhere on the page). Then, in the Message Boards page, right above the posts, click on "Signature" and paste the code for your ticker in there.
I think those instructions may be on the page when you first set up your ticker, but if not, there you go! Let me know if you have any questions!
Great job aisser, Mary and chocolickkyss!
Ourgang, it can get very frustrating when the weight stops coming off. Sounds like you have upped your workouts. That's great. How are you on drinking your water? That is something that's helped me when I've hit a plateau. Something else that helped also is switching up what I do with my exercise calories. If I ate them all before, then I would only eat them if I was hungry. If I didn't eat them before, then I would start eating at least some of them. Those are some ideas that have worked for me. If you search the boards for "plateau" I know that you'll come up with several threads. Maybe one of those will have something that will work for you! Keep up the good work. It'll happen sooner or later (I vote for sooner )0 -
Good morning!
Well, my day didn't start off as well as I'd hoped. Today was weigh in for me. I didn't lose as much as I'd hoped. I'm frustrated. I've been counting calories and staying below them and working out everyday. I'm trying to tell myself that I'm building muscle with the workouts so I didn't lose as much as I'd hoped.
Everyone have a terrific day!
