But NSV::: My mom brought me in some brownies (complete with powdered sugar) She brought 5 in for my husband/daughter and I to share. I haven't had one. And my dad even ate one before he left. 1 down 4 to go. I might try a bite of my daughters since my Mom did make them. But I don't know if I will even do that! I've been having to stare at them all day and honestly I haven't really been that tempted. So YAY me!
that is a victory. i've still never had that happen :laugh:0 -
My Wednesday wish is that I will get to visit Greece in the next few years! That's not a wish as much as a goal! Hope everyone is having a great and healthy day!0
-
Tina - I'm thinking you'd do well with something like Metamucil, if you haven't tried it already. Gentle, and regular if taken regularly. I've been taking it for years. Highly recommend. It takes several days before you start getting results and start getting regulated but I guarantee no embarassing moments.
Thanks everyone for all the good wishes - it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy! :blushing:0 -
Robin:::: Good luck with the surgery! We will miss you! Here's to a speedy and healthy recovery!!!
Wednesday Wish::: My wish is the (TMI) I could just go to the bathroom on a regular basis. I used to go everyday almost at the same time. Now I go days without going. It's been since SUNDAY! Im feeling miserable and looking at the scale is miserable too. But I can't take anything until the weekend because I have a phobia of going (#2) in public places, even at work or at anyone else's house. It has to be my house.

Tina~I sort of have that issue too - hate using public restrooms, so I'm always in search of the "one person" restrooms at work. Luckily I work in a hospital so they are easy enough to locate. I have anywhere from 20-30g of fiber per day, plus I take probiotics daily, and drink a ton of water - I would say I have a date with my bathroom every morning like clockwork. Your diet could be lacking something - sometimes the gut needs some good bacteria, such as probiotics, to keep traffic moving.0 -
My Wednesday wish is for good health for all humans and animals! Short of this, I wish for speedy recovery from surgery, irregularity, and heartache.0

Tina - It's no secret that a lot of people have to be at home to do their "duty". I wanted to tell you m ore about Metamucil. I do think you should give it a try. They make a sugar-free Orange flavored variety - which is the best flavor. I find it best to take after a meal or snack, any time of day, just not right after taking medication. Try starting out with 1 Tb. in 8 oz water, followed by another (at least) 4 oz. water. once a day for a week. If you're still not "going" well enough, increase to twice a day. That should get you regular as a clock.
Hope that helps.
Laurie: my prayers are with you tomorrow. Lotsa hugs too.0 -
Check in I am not doing well at all this weekend. My cat is not improving so today he went back to the vets. After having 2 teeth pulled, we were told that he has Cancer of the eye. The vet was not sure if it had spread to the brain. We will be putting him down this week. He won't eat even through he really wants to. We have tried everything we can think of regarding food- yogurt, milk, tuna and tuna juice. We even tried forcing down his throat but he is having trouble swallowing. Besides wanting to eat and can't all he wants is to be petted and loved. He is loved a lot and has brought great joy to my life. This is going to be a very long week. Most likely we will put him down on Thursday. I wish he would just pass quietly in the night without any pain.
it is so difficult to have to make that decision for a beloved pet. Cuddle him lots and know that you have given him a great life0 -
wed wish- that Robin's surgery goes well and she is comfortable afterwards0

Wednesday Wish: I can remember how to respond to quotes. I hit the Quote button, but my comments roll right under the quote. What am I doing wrong?
Also, when folks reply to 10 different people, how do you remember or keep track? I would love to respond, but trying to remember everyone's comments, names, etc. . . has been tough. I'm not multitasking well on this thread, but love the support and everyone's willingness to share their ups and downs. It's great!!!0 -

Susan~Not sure what could be going on when you quote people - make sure the word "quote" in brackets appears just before and immediately following the quote and it should work. Honestly, I can't remember everyone either, but I usually keep Word open and try to do my responses that way.
One more wish for Robin to have an easy surgery and recovery. We'll keep an eye on things - we should roll over this weekend and I'll do my best to keep up with it and make sure our opening appears.0 -
Thanks to everyone for your support regarding my cat. This is very hard but it is the right thing to do.
Robin- Good luck with your surgery wishing you a speedy recovery.
My wish remains the same as yesterday that my cat passes quietly during the night.0 -

Hit enter to move your cursor to a new line below the 2nd word quote in brackets. Make sure your response comes AFTER the last bracket. If you respond in between the bracketed "quote"s, your post will end up inside the blue box.
Also, I just right click the "reply" button and choose "open in new tab"--then I flip back and forth between screens to respond.0 -

Robin - I will be praying for you and your doctors. Let us know ASAP. I have been super busy. The nature of photography, either you are starved for business or starved for time. Very happy that the evenings are getting cooler. I sleep so much better when it is cool at night. I wish you all good health and happiness.:flowerforyou: for you Robin0

Hey Susan - I typically just jot notes on the copious amt of scrap paper on my table. Person's name and a 1-2 word reminder. It's typically how I roll at work too.
Had a decent day today. Trying to rest. Still exhausted from working hard and getting over being sick. Can't remember if I updated y'all or not. My doc treated me for walking pneumonia - could have been that or just bad bronchitis. Either way....I've been taking the elevator at work this week and resting/sitting more. OH and I'm paranoid being on antibiotics so I have been drinking a good 3 Liters of water a day...and peeing every 4 minutes b/c of it! Hoping to get back to health so my day off on Tuesday I can go for a bike ride! Need to take it easy though for another couple weeks. Not a set back. Just a reminder to take better care of myself.
I used the pharmacy at the hospital for my antibiotics, and when I dropped the script off, the pharmacist said something that hit me hard. She said, "Don't forget to come back for these. You need to take care of yourself first doc." As much as I know this, it's so hard to remember. Others always come first in my line of work...and my current state of weight shows for it.
OH and in other news...not sure if any of you saw this yet or not, but there is a new article out this week in the European Heart Journal about "Healthy Obesity." Haven't read the article yet (will print it at the hospital tomorrow) and I will fill you all in when I do, but basically the punchline I read seemed to indicate weight/BMI isn't as important as exercise and eating right as long as you don't have any metabolic disorders. Like I said, that's all I know but sounds like a fascinating article to pick apart!

Wish: I didn't have to get up at 5:30 every morning.0

Thursday truth: I work overnights, mostly alone, and think I might be going a little bit crazy (perhaps more than a little bit, sigh). Also, I log my calories from midnight to midnight, and tonight, I could hardly wait for the clock to strike 12, so I could eat again! Ridiculous.0

Wednesday wish: you know honestly I wish I had an accurate scale of my very own. I can't seem to find one for public use that seems even remotely accurate (the one I used a couple of times takes a quarter and told me the following weights when I used it- 335, then down to 312, up to 344, then to 350, and now I'm apparently 370) so I wish I had one of my very own. I also wish I knew whether I was doing well or not.
Just a small update, not really any victories or failures, just some interesting tidbits I've noticed. I'm beginning to enjoy various forms of exercise now- not just dance but walking with my dogs or rough housing with my fiance and my dad is more fun because I can last longer now (what can I say? I'm a major tom boy lol). I also am not nearly as bothered by the heat anymore- I don't think that's as much a result of losing weight though... I think it's just that I'm getting used to it.
Thursday Truth: Maybe not the best thing to admit but I seem to still be kind of edgy and lacking in patience here the past couple of days. I've managed to control it and it's honestly like I kind of exercise it out of me but I seem to get annoyed at stupid crap. It's probably just stress related though. I also haven't really been eating quite as good here recently for all intents and purposes. I've been trying to cut out the majority of sugar but I have some problems with it. I've cut down on sugar intake by cutting down sodas but it seems like all I have access to, food wise, is loaded with sugars. It's frustrating. I've also not been dancing as much as I was which bothers me- I have been working with the dogs which requires more walking and after an hour or more of walking in the sun with the dogs- one of which walks beside me with no issue, the other that still has issues trusting strangers- I feel really tired which is frustrating. I want to dance more due to the fact that the belly dancing has a LOT of advantages to it. I've made up my mind that I'm gonna start pushing myself to do it anyways though.0 -
Thursday Truth: I'm a little confused with my scale. I weighed yesterday morning a few hours after I ran and was 281.5. I weighed this morning and was 282. Not sure what my real weight is at this point. I have heard that your body will start to retain fluid after a workout which is why I'm trying to keep my water intake consistent during off days and a little higher on workout days. Honestly I'm not worried that my weight is being goofy because I'm focusing more on my performance during running and getting healthy than actually losing weight which is a change for me but it would be nice to be able to see differences from day to day and know that its not just my body acting goofy because I worked out the night before or even that morning.
Anyway, I'm done complaining and ready to kick this day in the rear.
Have a great day everyone!
Doug

Doug~The lower weight yesterday could have been from sweat and the gain today could be from muscles retaining water while they repair. Weight fluctuates from day to day (yes, even for guys) - it can definitely be frustrating! You're doing great and one of these days it WILL reflect on the scale.0 -
Hi Everyone! I'm sorry that I am so far behind on posts.
Thursday Truth -- I am defeated that I lost 15lbs and gained 8lbs back. I am in a slump lately with so much going on but today I am making all kids go to the park while I walk for an hour. Non fitness truth- It is a shame that I am not able to do 6th grade math at 40 yrs old. My class this semester is math and I am doing a 6th grade level...ugh!0 -
:flowerforyou: Robin- Hope surgery and recovery goes well0
-
Best of luck to Robin of course!
@naceto -- I think yoga would be a perfect addition to your plan. You don't want too many academic courses given that you work full time as well as going to school. Yoga's great; it helps you de-stress and you learn a lot about your body and how it works.
@Susan -- how I do personals is to keep a text editor open while I read, and jot down notes to people as I go. I couldn't do it any other way I don't think.
@walkingqueen -- good luck with your math. Have you seen the lessons over at Khan academy? They're really good if you're stuck on something because he goes over it very very slowly, and then you can practice as much as you like until it clicks.
NSV -- I've been, in theory, doing a little strength work over the last few weeks. But it's been sporadic. But yesterday I did fit in 75 counter push-ups, in five groups of 15, all in about 15 minutes, and 150 bodyweight squats, in five groups of 30, in a different 15 minutes. This is the beginnings of working towards 100 push-ups and 200 squats. Of course then I slept soundly for ten hours. But it's a start!
Thursday truth -- sometimes I think I'm the most untidy person on the planet. Our house has clutter everywhere. Most of the time I tell myself it's not bad enough to actually count as hoarding, but sometimes I despair. And I love it so when it's tidy! But not enough to tidy up. However, I have done a little today. Just keeping going.0 -
Robin: Good luck today and we'll be thinking about you!!!
Thursday Truth::: I only barely got a walk in yesterday. I'm finding it hard to get my exercise in on the days my husband works because now after I get off at 4pm I have to drive and get my daughter and don't get home until 5:30pm and then have to get her settled and then start dinner around 6:30-7:00pm. And I'm just not sure I can get up at 4:30am to get my workout in! It's getting pretty frustrating. But eventually I WILL get a routine figured out!
Have a terrific Thursday!
Tina
edited to say::: Thank you everyone for the suggestions about my stomach issues...:blushing:0 -
Hey everybody- I haven't been posting anything, but I've been reading for a bit. I am keeping MFP on the backburner, so I probably won't post much, but since it seems that Robin is having surgery, I just wanted to say that I hope it goes well and recovery is speedy!
mnwalkingqueen: After my surgery and finishing my dissertation and the months off from that, I regained about 50 lbs. Small steps. You'll get it back together.
Thursday Truth: Way over 200 lbs again but I'm working on getting back under again. Maybe by Christmas.0 -
Thank you everyone for your feedback on the classes! I think I will go for it! I won't know if I don't try, right? My Math class is self paced (Arithmetic and Pre-Algebra (yes, I am Math challenged)) and English 101 is the online class... which I am confident about.
@Tina - Fiber fiber fiber! Lots of fresh fruits and veggies... I also take a powder to liquid magnesium supplement (Peter Gillham's Natural Calm) which helps me. (Metamucil words great for me when that isn't enough) Good luck!
@Laurie - Thinking of you ~hugs~
@mnwalkingqueen - You are still here, so you are NOT defeated!!!!!!!!! Keep plugging and you will get there! I am also with you on the Math...... My 9th grade son is tutoring me!
@BohemianCoast - I am ALWAYS the most untidy person... my house is like a minefield!! I am hoping that soon I will have the umph to keep up on it.
Sorry I'm not able to answer more- I am reading everyone's stuff as I am able. Work is super busy and life is changing so fast, I am just trying to keep up! I am thinking of you all and cheering you on... sending hugs when you are down. Keep at it!
Thursday truth - I stepped on the scale and gained 2 lbs... so I measured, and I have gained an inch in my hips and waist... I am probably just bloated (I hope). I have been walking EVERY day for a week (well after today it will be a week, I think). I did have Subway again last night (leftover sub for lunch today) - so maybe it is the bread. I am strongly considering cutting out all bread except the Ezekiel or Dave's Killer... but that is kind of a scary commitment to make. We will see after a couple days.0
