Happy Anniversary! Hope it's wonderful :drinker:

Gardens gardens gardens! :flowerforyou: Seems my life revolves around them in Sept. Harvesting daily, watering, weeding, taking down spent corn and sunflowers, and tending fall crops. I've been canning, drying and preserving like mad. Lots more tomatoes to put up, plus peppers and eggplant. I'll be making big batches of taco sauce and salsa in the next week or so. A friend gave me a flat of peaches the other day which I turned into cobbler and several jars of preserves. 1 tablespoon on a bit of yogurt makes for a delicious little peachy-miracle

I'll be gone most of the weekend, heading out for a day trip tomorrow up to Sauvie Island where we like to go every year. There's a nude beach there :noway: but we drive right on by and find our own little spot at the end of the road, honest, we do. I'm such a prude lol! Really, though, the shore of the Columbia River there has beautiful, clean, white sand, we take our chairs and a picnic and enjoy a full day on the river. The dogs love it, they don't have to be leashed, so it's lots of fun for them. Saturday afternoon we're going to friends for a dinner party and possibly camp overnight at their place. Fun times ahead, I'll be careful with food and wine, I promise.

Been so busy with work and everything, haven't had time to read what everyone's been up to! Hope you're all doing great! I'll check in as soon as I get a chance.

Be good, be strong, be happy, be safe. And drink your water

Wow, I just lost my first post - good thing I didn't close the Word document yet. Take that you cyber gremlins, didn't get me after all......

It is amazing how many new people are joining the post. More and more great ladies to talk to and read their successes and advice and share their sorrows and joys.

Amanda – happy anniversary and so glad it is wonderful for you. Hope your interview with the FT went well. It sounds like you have such an interesting life.

Liz – your value shopping sessions with your clients sound very helpful for them. I find that potatoes, rice and pasta really are problematic for me. Even though the calorie intake is ok, I think it’s the carbs that are a problem for me. I feel very loggy when I eat any of those more than a couple of times a week.

Barbie – the quarters are a great idea, I think I’ll do that this year (except for the really little ghosties).

Nancy – how old is Jboy (obviously not old enough to do the trendy restaurants with the yam fries). He doesn’t know what he’s missing.

Laura80111 – I’m sure you are right about the vanity sizing. At least with shoes I’m pretty sure about the size I am in UK, US, Euro and Cdn. I think the Cdn is pretty much the same as US because I love to go south and hit Macy’s shoe sale and DSW is like a candy store for me. I may actually have a shoe fetish (39 summer pair and I’m afraid to even count the winter ones because it’s not just shoes, boots, gotta have boots!!)

Meg – OMG you have to look up Lululemon, it’s a cult here in BC.

Janehadji - your Vail vacay sounded like heaven. I have a number of Persian / Iranian friends and I love the food. Like it best when my friend Sharhzad’s mom makes it for us because she always puts an extra dollop of love in it.

Hey Kathy – what/where are the Quad cities?

Jane – I love your knitting group focus. What a great way to show caring.

Salmon, I’m going to have salmon tomorrow. I’m so tired of this plateau I’m on. 12774 was kind and gave me some good ideas so I ran some reports. Sodium is really low, but it seems like I have this 5 day cycle thing going on with all of the other categories. I’m going to focus on making my nutrition levels even and see if that starts things moving. I did my measurements and they are down even though the weight isn’t. I just need to learn patience and balance (hoo-haa, don’t we all).

Anyway ladies, I can hardly wait for this busy week to be over. I swear I’m going to do absolutely NOTHING tomorrow night. Off to bed to read and get some early zzzzs.
    Night all

Well, I did this once but the banner said the site was locked and then I found a little link at the bottom.....Am I home now?

It was day two with the bike and what a glorious morning it was - the sun was shining, it was calm, the lake was mirror smooth. It was totally a gift! I was out for 40 minutes and so far, no ill effects. And I avoided the temptation to do more -after three months of no activity, slow is the rule! but it was tempting....

Kind of had the munchies today too - not sure why, but it is my downfall. Snacking and between meal eating made me the woman I am today  Resist!!

cjspensly - congrats on the 20 pounds! That is a real milestone - be sure to celebrate it! Someday....

Have a good night ladies! and press on, g

    Good evening, lovelies!

The coyotes are baying, are they trying to summon the moon back? It's an eerie sound but also lonely. Feel sad for the poor people-less dogs, but then remember they are truly wild creatures and remind myself not to leave our Robby unattended in our fenced back yard even for a minute.

Still catching up only to pg 16 of part one, but posting to check in. Worked too long today and no lunchwalk nor dance class so short on steps... Busy days coming. Tomorrow work and buy cold cuts for workshop Saturday, stop in at meet and greet dance Friday night. Saturday all day line dance workshop, promised to help with registration so have to leave the house at 7:15 am (on a Saturday!) to get there on time. Sunday church and crash and minimal laundry and ironing for the week. Monday consultation with surgeon for removing 3rd facial skin cancer (yes 3rd. Fortunately still the mildest form, but when the dermatologist told me I took the rest of the day off for beers and tears). Monday night dance class, Tuesday night demo team practice, Wednesday night line dance class, Thursday night server room semiannual fire supression system test, Friday see if I still have dogs and a husband before collapse.

Just a few responses to all the posts I read.

Liz I love brussels sprouts too! And love the weather we're having in Idaho despite the wildfiresmoke.

Barbie how DID you get 20,000 steps in a day when you were stuck in a 6 hour meeting? Were your feet dancing under the table?

DeeDee I love reading all your responses. We are getting the benefit of your pneumonia!

Tigress, tell us more about your interchangeable earrings, sounds very creative!

Ann emotional eating? no kidding? You are talking to the queen of the Revenge Cheetos. When I'm angry or sad or avoiding facing those home truths, anything that's not nailed down jumps into my mouth and stuffs itself down my throat. So I am with you. Feeling overwhelmed? Hopeless, helpless, powerless? Some of the wisest advice I've gotten from this thread is to start. Start small. Start doable. Start now. but Start!

Nancy, you are the famed Creston Pickle Queen? WOW! Thanks for the "Spatchcocking" explanation, sounds like something DH would like to do. And WHERE did you find an old fasioned nail buffer. I had one when I was a girl but nowadays all I can find are those 7 surface kinds.

Micki conVERYgrats on weighing less than DH. Now you really are his little lady!

Lila, not to make you queasy, but parnsip circles grilled on the Foreman grill are yummy, nutty and sweet and not at all like boiled ones, honest!

cjspelsley "now 2 pounds from "overweight." Doesn't sound like a glorious goal, but it is certainly progress." It surely IS! I cried when I achieved mere "overweight" and whenever I flirt back up near obese, it really gets me back on track!

Michelle start stringing the popcorn for the tree? not the Christmas tree???

Ladies you are all inspiring. Hang in there. We CAN do this.

    Hugs,

September I resolve to be good to myself:
eat 7 servings fruits + veggies
invest 20 minutes in SWSY or on the mat and 10 minutes decluttering
moderate to 1 glass wine per night (Sat + Sun allow 2 beers/day)
figure out this darned HRM and uset it at least once
    smile, don't yell...
2012: dance more, bark less and check in!!!

Busy, busy week. I am already seeing the scale heading in the wrong direction since returning to work. Too much to do and too little time to exercise and shop for healthier foods. I am eating well, but guess I need to reevaluate diet and know I need to increase exercise! Plan for the weekend is to plan meals and exercise. I will cook ahead and freeze lunches.

    Have a great day! TGIF!!

    Good morning beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

I went to bed irritated and woke up irritated:angry: . My scale shows a 1.03 increase this morning and I KNOW it's the sodium from yesterday, but it still makes me mad:explode: !!!! It will probably take two days to get it off, and well I just don't like it:sad: . Nobody ever said this was going to be easy, and I certainly need to take my own advice, drink plenty of water and stay on my plan and it will come off, I guess maybe I just want to rant, wonder if ranting burns calories:tongue: . My allergies started bothering me yesterday, I guess it's that time now, watery eyes, itchy nose, all the wonderful irritants that fall brings. Boy I am really not in a good place right now, I think I need an adjustment to my attitude:blushing: . I won't bother you all with this icky mood of mine, I will be back when the attitude is adjusted!!!

Have a wonderful day, and drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: , then drink some more:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: , and log your food!!!

    Hugs,
    From grouchy DeeDee

only up to pg 17 part one, and finally ready to sleep... an hour and a half before the alarm goes off... ;)

Hello and good good Friday morning to you all :flowerforyou: ,

A 20 minute run/walk and then 25 minutes of fielding soccer balls (keeping student from running onto the parking lot). Whew! :explode: I don’t usually count school actvities in my exercise log but I did count yesterday. It was a workout.

The scale is almost back to where I was at the beginning of July :blushing: now I can get back on track to loose those last six pounds. It’s just six pounds, I tell myself. Nancy, get your act together!

We leave for Kelowna this afternoon, and a weekend of birthday party fun. Celebrating my Dad’s 85th birthday and my 54th (I always remind him that I am the BEST present he ever got  ). I have my mantra “34 pounds down – 6 pounds to go” planted in my brain and will let you know on Monday …

Here's a bit of historical trivia. I am teaching my students to evaluate the websites they use to get information when they are researching a project. In order to practice the skills they are doing a brief autobiography and have to look up information about what the world was like in the year 2000 (when most of them were born). As an example I pulled up the archives of the local newspaper to show them the birth announcements...and found my own! But it didn't say my name or mention my mother, it said "Born to George Cook of Creston, a daughter." :noway: Wow, how times have changed!

Meg, you asked…Lululemon is a brand of yoga & workout wear that’s really popular here in Western Canada – my workout tops are tank tops with built in bras and they show lots of shoulder – just the thing we encourage our 12 year old girls NOT to wear to school! On the other hand, I love being fit enough to wear them at the gym, and sometimes around the house. It feels fine to have muscles to show off. Well, the beginnings of muscles, anyway. Lila is right, it’s a “cult”. A girl’s not a girl if she doesn’t have at least one piece of Lululemon to show off to her friends.

Robin, my dancing friend! To paraphrase our Barbie: If you fall down, get up; don’t accidently kick any dogs, and keep on tapping!

Happy Anniversary Amanda and Bigpal :flowerforyou:

Barbie, speaking of dancing…or learning anything new…it’s getting skilled enough to enjoy it that’s the challenge, isn’t it? I think the challenge for teachers is to make the practice enjoyable, so that getting to the end result is not so painful.

Linda, ride the bike, get those endorphins flowing :explode: and enjoy your weekend, if you have time off – and even if you don’t, I hope.

Oh JB “a delicious little peachy miracle” Have a fantastic weekend. I will think of you when I say …..”Umm, no thanks :noway: to that final refill of wine”

Lila, J’boy is 14 – he’ll be 15 on Nov 25 so sometimes for literary effect I refer to him as a 15 year old. He did admit that though he loves yam fries – but “yam mush” – as he put it, was too “orange” :grumble: .

Glenda, I figure you have the munchies because you’re body is waking up with all the aquacise and bike riding. I get SUPER hungry the day after a big workout, that’s why you see those huge salads on my menu plan.

Barbara, I have to confess that the nail buffer I am using now is one I bought when we were in Spain a couple of years ago, which is not much help here. I’ve seen them in the drug store though, hanging on a rack with the clippers and the hair bands.

DeeDee – Grouch on if it helps. We don't mind. I am reading a book, recommended by Barbie, called “A Complaint Free World” – got it on my Kindle. It’s got some really good tips on ways to get out of the grouchies.

    Hasta pronto,

    Nancy

    September goals:
No bedtime snacks, no second helpings!
Get the routine chores done – no procrastination!
24 hours of exercise in the month. Total to date: 9.75 hours - Will she keep up the routine while travelling?
Be a role model of healthy living for my students.
  • Don't give up, try drinking more water and changing out some of the regular foods you eat and try something new. Good luck!

    :flowerforyou: TGI Friday,

Only time to post a quick note as it's my half day of work (I get this every Friday:bigsmile: ).

So last night we went for our bike ride, weather was wonderful I had dinner all planned and in my food diary...then half way through hubbys bike gets a flat:sad: , so he takes my bike back to the truck and I walk his to a place to wait for him...when he arrives a half hour later he says let's do Chinese tonight....I cave and say okay:grumble: But I did keep my portions small and drank plenty of water so shouldn't affect the weight at all.

Before our bike ride hubby let me know that Monday he will start back on his low carb...he did it years ago and was totally successful and kept the weight off for years until he had his hip problem, then the replacement and I think he's been using that excuse for the past two years. So I will be purging the cupboards of the foods he shouldn't be eating so he won't be tempted.

We are waiting to hear if hubby got a part time barely above minimut wage job. He figured he needed something to get him out of the house and he will still have time to look for a full time job, he's never worked retail before so it ought to be interesting:ohwell:

We are expecting great weather over the weekend so hoping to get in some good bike rides then we have Fall again on Monday, so nice to have a change in the weather and in clothes.

    Amanda & Bigpal - Happy Anniversary:flowerforyou:
    jb- enjoy your weekend away:drinker:
Lila- I'm hoping to find my favorite Salmon over the weekend, as that last kind I bought not only didn't taste that great but really stunk up the kitchen:noway: which my other brand didn't...I do love my Salmon and what it does for me:wink:
glenda- glad you are taking the return to exercise slow, would hate for you to have any relaps:flowerforyou:
Barbara-sooo sorry to hear that you are having your 3rd facial skin cancer removed, but glad it was caught early:flowerforyou:
Deb A- planning ahead and pre making work meals can make all the difference in the world to losing:happy:
Grouchy Dee Dee- if you can't vent to us who:huh: We understand your frustration as we have all been there at some time:drinker:
Nancy- Happy Birthday:flowerforyou: to you and your Dad.
janehaji- Glad to hear your Vail time away was refreshing, I agree the fall here in Colorado is quite beautiful:happy:

Everyone have a wonderful Friday, drink plenty of water, get in some form of exercise and don't forget to log your food:drinker:

    Laura80111:smile:
  • Good advice Dee, don't give up. Allergies are a challenge under any conditions. Hang in there winter is coming.

    Good morning ladies,

Wow! Blink and we are over 500! I haven't even had time to read them yet. Where did this week go?

… the hurrier I go, the behinder I get!!

I am a month behind in my quilting project with our group, behind in my sewing for my customers, behind in my housework, behind in the garden. Again I ask, where did this week go? We have had another medical emergency at work and I am working more, HO is out here again looking for more staff, seems none wants to work!!

I have had a lot of internet problems rendering my computer useless right now, borrowed my husband's when I could. My boys disagree about the problem but I think when I get a chance I will go with my son's solution about getting a new router…. the younger ones seem more in tune with techy things.

I was invited to a meeting this week to be a founding member forming a new Trefoil Guild here in the Park, which seems like a good idea. All those former guide leaders, many of whom have grandchildren (not I ) and miss being leaders have decided to get back to Guiding without the stress of leading a pack. We will get together as a social group and do service projects. I must admit I do miss the adult social aspect of guiding.

Must go, behind in the grocery shopping too and need to get some done this morning before work.

Be good to yourselves my dears,
    Kate

    Good Morning!

Friday and weekend - yippee! Today's weigh-in was my smallest loss and I feel like I put my biggest effort. Isn't that how it goes?! I did 10K+ on the pedometer yesterday which means I did my September Step Goal. I really didn't expect to reach that as it's been a long time since I did that many steps in a day. I just hope I can keep it around 5K since my daily average in Sept has been around 3500 - that is the cost of a home-office.

Wish you all a grand day with much happiness and good health from a happy loser - Teri

    Good morning all!
Barbie - your line dancing goals made me laugh - "Don't fall down, don't make anyone else fall down and keep coming back" those are my goals for ANY exercise!!
fonitoni - good luck with getting that scale moving again. that sounds like lots of exercise.
Barbara - What a schedule! I amnot sure you have any time in there to collapse! Hope you find some time to recharge!
DeeDee - Vent away! It is good to have a safe place to let it all out, be heard, and then pick up and go again. We have all been there!
Nancy - you might be right about the munchies. I didn't really think of that. I will have to make sure I am planning good alternatives and not grabbing the quick fix.
Another great day out there! go enjoy it!

 Just found out why there were no posts since last night, thought everyone got a head start on the weekend, so glad I put my post in a word document first. I will catch up on these two pages later.

    Good Morning,

“I love this site”, finally a tool that can keep me motivated and on track! I heard about it on the DisBoards and decided to take a look and it’s just what I needed. This is my third week tracking my food and I feel great.

I am a big procrastinator, in all areas of my life, especially with my weight. There was always tomorrow to start my diet. But with MFP I realized I don’t have to give up anything, I just have to adjust my portions and I find I am choosing to eat healthier. Now that I’m on the right track there is no looking back.:noway:

“We shall never have more time. We have, and have always had, all the time there is. No object is served in waiting until next week or even until tomorrow. Keep going day in and day out. Concentrate on something useful. Having decided to achieve a task, achieve it at all costs”. Arnold Bennett

I can’t wait for my weekly weigh in on Monday, haven’t taken my measurements since day one, may wait for the week four weigh in day for those. I am definitely seeing changes though, bra had to be tightened one hook, going to need to buy a belt, and I fit into jeans I haven’t worn in months. Things are starting to look better on me, not so tight.

I was planning on going to see Finding Nemo 3D with my daughter and grandson this weekend, but will probably not go. :ohwell: Not sure if I can handle the temptation just yet. I have never gone to a movie without getting a bucket of popcorn and a coke. It will save me a bit of money since I would have paid for all three of us.
I need to find some of that Skinny Pop mentioned here to have a better alternative the next time I do go to the movies.

Work is a little slow today, waiting for the mailman to bring checks. While I wait I will try to get to know a few of you. (sorry if I don’t know all your names yet, will use user names)

Nancy, what a great thing you are doing for those girls. Showing them how to achieve some goals while taking care of their bodies and gaining self confidence.:flowerforyou:

Glendalight, how nice it must be to have your grandsons over for lunch and then send them home. My grandson and daughter live with me and at times I feel like he has two moms. I can’t spoil him like other grandmas do.

Cjspensley, congrats on the 20 lb loss. I know how you feel. I just dropped down to 179 lbs, which I have done many times in the past three years, but I always jump back up. Not this time, I’m never going back there.:noway:

Barbara, I’m going to try that cauliflower recipe this weekend. It sounds yummy.

Well that’s a start, back to work now so that I can leave early and get started on my weekend projects.

I just found my post with my September goals and I need to get going on the 2nd two.

    Lynn

    September goals
Lose 1 lb / week (first week was a bigger loss, don’t expect that again)
Continue to log in my food choices the night before, such a great help
Get back in the saddle at least once this month (literally – haven’t ridden in a while)
Have at least 2 bedrooms painted by the end of the month(selling house this fall)

You poor girl. We were discussing this last night at bunko - how many of us are still wading through the process. I hope they stop soon - although truthfully I think the longer you have them, the less likely you are to get those fun post-menopausal problems like bone loss, etc. Good luck!

Marking my spot, as I'm finally going to get my hair cut and highlighted this morning -- it's been scary-looking lately, but I just haven't had time.

Barbiecat -- how did you do those cool anniversary animations? I loved them!

Sasha4427 -- what is your favorite Persian dish? I can cook most of them after 29 years. I love khorest e bademjun, kash ka bademjun, ghormesabzi and the kebabs. For those who don't know, bademjun is eggplant, which can be made into various stews and served over rice.

Laura80111 -- I'd love to find a time when we can have lunch -- I'd like to meet you, since we live so close!

Hi gang. It is a beautiful day here and last night the sunset was just gorgeous. I am trying to find beauty and joy each day and that was yesterday’s…the prettiest red/pink sunset ever. Yesterday I did a 5 minute warm up on the elliptical then did about 10 minutes of weight lifting. I got through my old routine. It was a little hard to remember how to set the bowflex up for each exercise, but once I got it figured out, I was on a roll. My arms are sore today!

Today was weigh in day; I lost 1 pound, but my ticker didn’t change and I didn’t get a status update on my home page. Not sure why so I emailed tech support. Ginny couldn’t remember what she weighed last time and the organizer person is out of town. But she was wearing a skirt she couldn’t get on at the beginning of summer.

Tigress: I would call swimming with a hottie a NSV! Poor Danni the cat…getting blamed for everyone else’s bad behavior. We always blame the dog!!

Janehadji: So sorry to hear about hubby being difficult! :flowerforyou: I hope things are smoothed over now. Isn’t that recipe grand? I’ll have to try the scallops. Wine doesn’t last long in our house so I don’t have to worry about it being too old LOL. Someone here said you can buy a regular cedar plank from the lumbar yard & it’s way cheaper that way. I LOVE Persian food!

MWWheatcraft: your recipe sounds great too. Although I really don’t like greek yogurt; I could use regular. We have grilled in cedar parchment paper before and really like that.

4Dogmom: good job on recognizing that you have made some big changes!

Fattypatty: welcome! Wow that’s a ton of kids all spread out…you must be tired LOL. Since you don’t want to be fattypatty anymore, you should change your nic to healthypatty! :flowerforyou:

Wessecg: I hope your weight stabilizes soon. That is so frustrating! Hugs to you:flowerforyou:

    Kathy: have a wonderful trip!!!

Sally: I did the same thing as you….had an injury, kept exercising, made it worse, had to stop everything and now my weight ballooned and everything is so much more difficult.

Jane: your blanket work is so wonderful and very appreciated I’m sure:smile:

Michele: water energizes me too. I think I was a dolphin in a previous life !!

Robin: yay for you doing the dancing even when you were tired!

Barbie: thanks for the new post!

Linda: do you want to come with me? I’m heading to the GYN to get yet another shot of Depo! On the silly stuff and I’ve been bleeding for 5 weeks now. Wonder why my hemoglobin is so darn rock stable! Can’t justify doing anything more drastic because my hemoglobin is so good.

DeeDee: good thoughts to you for a better day! You can be grouchy here, but I hope you feel better. Do something nice for yourself! :flowerforyou:

Jane: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I don’t want to hear about periods at 55! LOL My sympathies, but glad to hear they have gone away!!!

Jb: I love to garden to, but there is something about going back to work at the end of summer that makes me done with them. I can’t bring myself to do anything in the yard after being outside in the yard all summer!

Lila: I looked up lululemon. They have some cute things…not at all the mental image I had when you said you would be sent home from school for wearing it!

Barbara: I love the phrase revenge cheetos!!! OMG I eat those too when I am really pissed off. Well I used to…I guess I haven’t in a while. We don’t have them at home so it always involved a little trip!

Nancy: congrats on looking good enough for Lulu! I may have to buy some. Will that make me an honorary Canadian? 6 pounds to go? Wow that’s great. Have a great trip!

Well ladies I am off to try to accomplish something before leaving for the dr. appointment. Actually it’s just a nurse visit, in and out. I can’t wait to get my “tricycle” tonight!!! Take care, meg :drinker:

Woooo....I've read everything but now things are just melding together in my head. My impression is we are one group of busy and interesting ladies, We have some obstacles in our lives but we are working to overcome them! So a toast----:drinker: to all of us.

I'm home and once again, oh yes, wait for it, yes: SALMON & GREEN BEANS. :glasses: :glasses: Just the total rock stars in my nutritional arsenal lately. Eating that combo once a week.

Waaaay back when, Meg you asked me what a toe to toe room is? That's what the nursing home calls their expensive remodelled rooms---ooops, pardon, I was told they are SUITES. So the residents are in a long room, not side by side but toes pointing at toes so they can stare at each other.

Michele - thanks for the update on the popcorn stringing. I've had many periods of not having much money (in fact I still do!) and I tried stringing popcorn once but I did something wrong because more kernels broke than I cared for!

And those discussing the continuation of periods----I finally got out of the game at age 59. Now ladies, that is ridiculous.

Hope everyone's frustrations are short in duration, everyone suffering poor health or other injuries will see relief soon. Weekend on tap. :drinker: :drinker:
