"Today, our school children who have been guinea pigs of the misguided nutritional advice to drink fat-free milk instead of whole milk, certainly aren’t any thinner for it."

But wait Mrs. Obama with all her nutritional health background has removed the option and now only FAT FREE milk can be served...

Yeah, that's what is making our kids fat. Skim milk.

Hahahahahaha! Yeah. Couldn't be all the junk food and soda they're consuming. It MUST be the SKIM milk...

kids can't buy junk food and soda... Parents are the issue not the food and drink offered at school... I would rather my kid drink FULL FAT milk than none at all, but that is just me... oh and I don't let my kids have soda too often or junk food all day either... call me crazy but at some point People need to take the blame not school lunches or milk or mcdonalds etc...

Didn't say they were getting it at school...but you're right, parents choose what to buy for groceries every week...and often kids pay the price for it. It's sad.

Bottom line is, to say that skim milk is making people fat is silly.

Why drink milk at all? I'm not convinced it's "good for you". Get your fluids from water and your nutrients from food. I do love latte's though. . . .

TO OP: THE WORLD WILL END IN 2012!!! DON'T DO ANYTHING!!!

I enjoy milk sometimes...I'll drink it plain once in a while. There are other ways to get calcium and vitamin D...I just like milk and dairy LoL.

I just think saying that the low fat stuff is bad for you is a bit shady.

I drink raw milk from a local dairy farm. For me, it is head and shoulders above in taste and I like food to be minimally processed when possible.

My jaw dropped when I read the first paragraph and the last...skim milk an Industrial waste product? Huh? Born of a factory? Oh my!

Here's the thing: I grew up on a small family farm where we sold cream to a dairy which was separated from the warm fresh milk in a separator, a centrifuge, by us! As a result, I grew up on raw, skimmed milk. Cream was rarely kept for our consumption (and I don't like it as a result).

I agree that it's a good idea to read labels on dairy products, especially low or fat free ones as they often contain emulsifiers, and other ingredients I don't want to consume.

In many places milk contains no antibiotics, as it's not legal. The jury is out on pasteurization, but that's another discussion!

No one had heart attacks around the turn of the century?????? I'd like to see the stats on that one!

This is the first thing in the post that stood out as ludicrous to me. Documentation of cause of death, autopsies, doing lab work to test for heart disease BEFORE death... those things really didn't happen at the turn of the century.

The other thing that I read more than once that I took issue with is the idea that saturated fat, full-fat foods, etc aren't bad for you, and aren't contributing to heart disease. Explain to me, OP, why it is that lowering your saturated fat and cholesterol intake can literally save your life by lowering your bad cholesterol? I'm 28 and have had a heart attack, I'd love to know your logic for why I /shouldn't/ listen to my doctor, my nutritionist, science, and common sense.

Now this is what I agree with! My doctor confirmed yesterday that I should keep on avoiding saturated fat to help lower my cholersterol, as well as taking the statin. Who should I believe? Someone with years of specialist training in health and no sales agenda or someone selling fatty products? Hmmmm, no contest!

The Dairy I get my milk from does not use any of that stuff mentioned in the article, and the local bigger dairy does not do any of that stuff either - neither uses GMO's for instance in their milk or feeds, and all allow their cows outside.

So, um, why then did you bring up skim milk in schools??
