Things A Chivalrous Man Shouldn't Let a Woman Do

Some very polarized opinions here...
Honestly, none of that is required, but little gestures like that mean something. Sure, I can open a door on my own, but I notice when my fiancée runs ahead to open it for me. He doesn't have to, but I know he does it out of love.
It isn't so much a deal breaker if a guy doesn't do these things for me, but a HUGE bonus if they do.0 -
A2M?
if this is what i think it is ew.
With a name like belladonna you say, "ew?" I find that ironic.
I didnt pick the name based on a porn star I picked it because im italian I found out later it was a porn star and A2M is gross0 -
Oh, lets see here.
I have been married for almost 14 years now and my wife is kind of a tom-boy so. she does a lot of things on her own.
I will lift the heavy stuff although she has no problem grabbing the end of a piano and helping me move it.
I do all of the maintance to the vehicles but, she did assist me in pulling the engine out of the Bronco AND she changed her own oil in the Magnum.
She learned how to replace a toilet. Wax ring and all but, I am the one who gets to scoop out the old ring.
Bumps in the night? I check it out. I had to warn her to keep a safe distance from me to avoid startling me.0 -
to me a chivalrous man is a man who lets a woman be a human being. It shouldn't matter of gender. We ALL should be awesome to each other.
I do open doors for women, but I do the same for men.
^^ Agreed0 -
*Pump her gas/ keep car serviced
I can pump my own gas, thanks. I do ask for help when I need to have my car serviced though, as I'm woefully ignorant on the workings of a vehicle. If I knew how to do it myself, I would though.
*Walk on the outside on the street (keep her inside from street)
Fun fact: in ye old days, you used to make the woman walk on the outside, because people would be dumping chamber pots out the window. These days I don't see any real relevance to which side you walk on, so it's kind of silly.
*Open doors and always let her enter first (including opening/ closing car door)
I appreciate people opening doors for me, but I'll also open a door for them. It's not chivalry- it's common courtesy.
*Pick up tab for first date (can't stand a cheap ninja)
Generally I think whoever did the asking out should pay. So if the lady asked, she should pay. I mean, I would hate being asked out and then expecting to pick up the tab. That's just lame. It's been a long time since I've been on a first date, but I always let the guy pick it up because a) he asked and b) some guys get super defensive about it. Easier to not argue I guess.
*Fail to get off (no explanation needed. handle ya biz fellas or someone else will.)
Whatever you and your partner do, both should be happy and satisfied by the end of it. Good rule of thumb.0 -

well let's define it first -chiv·al·rous [shiv-uhl-ruhs]
adjective
1.
having the qualities of chivalry, as courage, courtesy, and loyalty.
2.
considerate and courteous to women; gallant.
3.
gracious and honorable toward an enemy, especially a defeated one, and toward the weak or poor.
Origin:
1300–50; Middle English chevalrous < Middle French chevalerous, equivalent to chevalier chevalier + -ous -ous
Synonyms
1. fearless, dauntless, valiant; courtly; faithful, true, devoted.
Antonyms
1. cowardly, rude, disloyal.
I think men behave that way naturally when they meet the right person.0 -
Before I got married I woudl have gone with all the typical: men shouldnt let a woman open a door, walk on the street side of the sidewalk, etc.
Now that I have been married for ten years my list is more about things like; Dragging the garbage can to the curb, Calking the shower, putting additional tar around the chimney. All stuff that my slug of a husband puts off until I do.0 -
It's so refreshing to see such strong, independent women in this thread who don't 'need' men to do things for them.
I can't believe there are still women in this world that enjoy having a man show how much they care by expressing a primal need to protect the person they love.
Kudos to you for being above that sickening behavior!0 -

But i like doing those things for my boyfriend.. it's not so much chivalry but actually caring about the other person and being considerate.
This.
Also, anybody who approaches this with the attitude of not letting her do things gets on my nerves very quickly. It is not a race to the door; I am a grown woman and perfectly capable of opening the door myself. If I get there first, I will hold it open for you because that is common courtesy.
You would have definitely not liked my late boyfriend then. He always insisted on opening doors for me even if I got to the door first and had to wait for him to open it. He definitely believed chivalry wasn't dead. He passed away a number of years ago and I still miss him. He was the best boyfriend I ever had.0 -
A chivalrous man shouldn't PURPOSLY WAKE UP HIS wife and their toddler she just got to sleep!!!!!! Epic fail at my house today!0

The key word is "let".
What about my primal need to protect? If we walk past a shady character in these streets, it's back-to-back formation automatically. My dude bought me a shotgun for my birthday one year. That says that a) he is honest as can be, and b) respects me enough to have his back if anything pops off.
If he opens my door, it's so that I don't rip it off its hinges.0 -

Can anyone point me in the direction of one of these gentlemen. Because around here chivalry has definitely died. That whole southern gentlemen thing must not exist around here.

Chivalry is not dead, at least I hope not. I continue to believe there are things a man should do for a woman. While I can think of many I'm only going to list my top 5 in no particular order:
*Pump her gas/ keep car serviced
*Walk on the outside on the street (keep her inside from street)
*Open doors and always let her enter first (including opening/ closing car door)
*Pick up tab for first date (can't stand a cheap ninja)
*Fail to get off (no explanation needed. handle ya biz fellas)
These and:
Drive
Drop her at the door if it's raining.
Help her with her jacket.
Pull put her chair. (HATE when I see the host do it at a restaurant while the husband/boyfriend watches)
Carry the bags when shopping.
Don't be disrespectful.
Call when you say you will.
And, since mine does all that, I found one of the good ones.
Yeah see I actually prefer to drive and my husband knows nothing about a car that my job. I'm the grease monkey.0 -
I adore these threads where some guy will post this stuff to gain the adoration of the hundreds of females on this site. I only wish you would see the same threads started by women about men. Never see those threads.
Oh, and btw OP, you don't start a thread about it. If you are chivalrous, you just DO IT, and don't try to gain attention from it.0 -

This. I actually prefer doing things for myself, like pumping my own gas, opening my own doors, and pushing my own shopping cart. My husband does these things for me, too, but I do like being my own person as well. Just preference. He's still chivalrous whether or not he does these things all the time.0 -
The best thing you can do to impress a woman on a first date is to take of your pants and jacket.0
-
My wife loves when I pull out her chair.0
-
Unfortunately, most women I have met don't truly appreciate any of this and will eventually see you as a doormat. Sad but true0

Kill spiders.
That is all.0 -

Bahaha. I'm just f'n with you.
not that there's anything wrong with that.0 -
If it's not already added-
-Put the toilet seat down after you're done using it and clean up any mess you left behind.
-When she says "nothing is wrong" that means everything is wrong and you better not pester her to figure it out because if you can't you're only going to annoy her more. Best to ask, "do we need to talk or should I keep my mouth shut?" If she tells you to keep it shut... do what she says.0 -
My man does 4/5 of those things 98% of the time.
The other 2% of the time I'm by myself.0 -
Reminds me of a joke:
A man comments to his wife that he just got his Olympic condoms in the mail and that he feels like wearing "gold" that night. His wife answers, "Can't you wear silver and finish second for a change???"
OK, that's all I got.0
