I liked it, was not what i thought it was going to be and there was more of a story to it than i thought there was going to be .If you want prize winning writing then dont read it but just for entertainment value its great . x

I've seen a couple of you say "I write better" and I believe you - send me the links?

Didn't like it. Couldn't get past the first half of book one. For me it was money wasted.

What do you expect from FAN FICTION????

Not many people seem to know this was originally TWILIGHT FAN FICTION!! Then it was picked up and changed to remove everything related to Twilight.

Seriously.....how could ANYONE like this.....I've read some of it, and it's so poorly written it's like a teenager with a hard-on picked up a pen and wrote it.

Reaaaaally love it! The bad thing is that my expectations about men are really different right now... Where is my Grey?

Awwe.... we say the same thing when we watch porn. :flowerforyou:

    HATE!!

I read and I write GOOD PORN. the kind that is well-written, edited and (even in a fantasy setting) has realistic sex. 50 Shades had NONE of that.

    Vomitous trash.

Your usage of the word "vomitous" already makes you a better writer than that author. Where do I locate this well-written porn? Lol

This. I haven't read them, and I might get around to it eventually just to make a truly informed decision, but in all likeliness, it will surely fall far below my standards. Twilight is bad enough; I somehow doubt that a derivative of Twilight will be any better.

I have one thing to say...

There is better written, kinkier, and best of all FREE stuff online...

    THIS.

Although to the person who said, "What can you expect from fan fiction?" A lot, actually. There are some fan fic writers out there that do amazing erotica. Its just not always easy to weed the good from the bad...

So its not that it was originally a fan fic, it was that it was originally a BADLY WRITTEN fan fic, lol.
  • Hated it. I actually couldn't finish it. I've been told that the writing improves on the next two books but if I can't even finish the first one......

i read a bit of it from a lady's book at work, and felt that it was written by a teenage hormone raging 14 year old boy. If you take out the moaning and other sadly written details, you MAYBE have 50 pages of story. MAYBE!!! Not a great read.

Hated it! Hated the writing and the useless and completely directionless narrator and the smarmy love interest. Not a good book.

"Good" fan fic doesn't always mean heterosexual fan fic, you know. That seems a bit narrow-minded. Now if that's all you enjoy, fine, but don't lump homosexual fic (or alien fic, for that matter lol) into a "bad" category just because its not something you're into. Besides, there's good and bad fic that comes with every sexual preference. It has to do with the authors, not the romantic/sexual pairing.

Also as a point of interest, what fandoms have you been looking in that you haven't found ANYTHING relating to your interests? Seems strange to me, as I've seen a wide variety of fic in every fandom I've ever went looking into.

    I've had sexier smear tests.

Poorly-written, for one. And two - I never have an issue with disliking characters in a book. Sometimes it's important. But OHMYGOD. The most desirable man on the planet (allegedly) is a 27-year-old playboy squillionnaire with a whole bag of neuroses and body wash (if I had to read about how his bodywash smelled OMGWTFBBQ awesome, the phrase "oh my", or heard how Christian's mouth set into a hard line one more time...). His significant other is an insipid little critter who is possessive, jealous and insecure. Match made in heaven, obvs.

But ignore me. I'm bitter because I know I could do better and I didn't; and EL James is sat on bazillions and I'm not. Bad luck, Moglet.

    Spot on review, pretty much.

I don't understand how anyone can get turned on by those poorly written sex scenes. Aaaaand I don't understand how anyone would want Grey. :\

I cannot wait until we NEVER SEE THIS TOPIC AGAIN.

    THIS ^^^^
Also how can anyone possible get turned on by such appallingly badly written tripe? It'd be like your partner talking dirty to you and using exactly the same words over and over again in badly constructed sentences... Some people are so vanilla!

Generally comic book stuff, Star Trek, take offs of TV Shows etc. And to me, anything that messes with the core scene of the characters sexuality is "bad" fan fic. And it's not that I've not found anything, I've just never found anything good.

Pure drivel. Gave up halfway through book 2. Some of the 4 year olds at my nursery have a better writing style. As for the content- cheesy and cringe-worthy at best. Didn't get me going one bit.

    BORING.

I got the about chapter 21 of the first book and found it so boring and repetitive that I gave up.
  • read it to form an opinion. nearly gave up after the first page but ploughed on!
i've never hated a main character from a book before but "OH MY" i hated ana, i was rather upset she veto'd anything anal, i wanted to see her get hurt! but was then happy when he whipped her, was it with his belt? was a few months ago when i read it.

i've felt more empathy for actresses in cheesey porn. :)

finally someone has admitted their real problem with it. i have no issues that people dont like it. its all a matter of personal taste. but the fact is there are a million and more people that do love it and it is a best seller and will be made into movies.

so many people have said that they can and have written better, but im yet to see anyone of them point me to their published works.

Yes, I was interested to see what all the fuss was about and I downloaded it. I read a number of sample pages of the first novel and my feelings are that it is a Mills and Boon style take-off of 'The Story of O' by Anne Desclos.

Of course 'The Story of O' is now considered to be a literary classic (and still far more erotic that '50 Shades of Grey') and Anne Desclos was an accomplished writer and journalist who wrote 'The Story of O' , under a pseudonym, way back in the 1950s.

There is no chance of '50 Shades of Grey' becoming a literary classic, but it may become an example of the power of social networking and online marketing.

    ETA
Really pleased to note, however, that the book has succeeded in reverting everyone to the UK spelling of grey.
  • I wrote hotter erotica when I was in high school.
