I have not read it yet. I have several friends who have read it. I do however know that the author did not do her research on BDSM. The book bordered on abuse rather than be about true BDSM play. Most of the people who come join the BDSM community after reading these books usually don't stay because what they see is a lot more hard core than what is in the book.

    Forgot to include this ~

The one part I did enjoy is the banter between Ana and Christian via email. If the entire book were written in that mode, I may have enjoyed it more.

^^^^ This -- did the author never hear of IM? Garbage, just drivel.

I enjoyed the Chapter reviews on this blog SO much more. http://bizzybiz.blogspot.ca/2012/06/50-heaves-of-puke.html

    Ooh. I love that review!

And I second the BDSM stuff. If we all did it like that, it'd be a dangerous world to live in :P

    HATE!!

I read and I write GOOD PORN. the kind that is well-written, edited and (even in a fantasy setting) has realistic sex. 50 Shades had NONE of that.

    Vomitous trash.

    ^^
If it was well written and less violent, yeah, it would have been a good book.

Anything that's well written is good. :-)

I like how in the first book she has to eat and watch her diet. :)

And, again, I weep for humanity. At least the feminine side of it.

I read the first one because of the hype now Im in the beginning of the second one and Im very bored with it all ready. Very repetitive. The sex isn't really all that hot and very poorly written. I doubt Im going to finish the series. Just doesn't keep me turning the pages like other erotica novels.

Thankfully the world of fiction is a big wonderful jumble of all kinds of topics and styles. As an avid reader my preferences are many and i judge books by what they leave me with not by what the literary world considers to be quality fiction. Stephen King was snubbed for years by so many people i know but when they found out "The Shawshank Redemption" was written by him suddenly he was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

With that said, I don't consider E L James in the same catergory as most of the writers i enjoy. I agree that her writing ability leaves something to be desired and I've read better sex scenes in cheap romance novels. She's repetitive to the point it makes you want to scream. It made me wonder if she was just trying to fill in pages because she didnt have the creativity to hold the readers attention by offering substance to the story. The plot line would have been great if she had developed it and then woven the sex scenes into it...to me it seemed as if she was doing the reverse. So in my opinion the books were ok...nothing to rave about and certainly not worth the money spent on them. The thing that bothers me the most about Fifty Shades is how many writers will be overlooked while the publishing industry jumps on the bandwagon to start pumping out more mature fiction simply to boost profit!! This is what happened with Twilight and the market is saturated with vampire based books now.

By the way J K Rowlings new book has some very adult themes including drug addiction cutting, sex etc... It will be very interesting to see how her novel does in comparison.

For those who think Christian Grey is some kind of romantic hero, this is what it's really like to be involved with a man like that:

My wife read these books. Best two weeks of my life......
Then you would love the Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward. The first one is Dark Lover.

I didn't think it was very good, but still worlds above 50 Shades.

They were just entertaining.... that was really all they were meant to be. Writing was not that great, but I looked at reading those books like you would watch Simpsons or Family Guy... (except with less clothes on) lol.... as the books went on I thought they got more entertaining... so at the end of the day, I liked them.... but I wouldnt mark them as an all time great read.
