50 Shades of Grey....Love it or Hate it?

the writing makes me want to projectile vomit. homegirl needs an editor. not that i don't like some saucy reading, but i'd prefer to get lost in a little smut that doesn't have me crossing out typos and adding commas.

Ummm... No sorry to burst ya bubble.... Ive struggled all my life.. and this kept me going.. to sum it is a joke but to me... it lit a fire unda my azz Literally! lol Guess ya jus have to live a lil....:)
To each their own...glad it helped you (whatever gets you motivated I guess!) :drinker:
Live a little?! Pfft...If it took a badly written Twilight fan-fiction to introduce you to BDSM it is you who needs to 'live a little'...or a lot in fact...0 -
I liked them very much, read them twice.. some good suggestions on here on that Sleeping Beauty.. I downloaded the 3 books, can't wait to read them and then see how I feel about 50.0

I will never read these books.
If I want to read a good book, I'll read a good book.
If I want to watch porn, I'll watch porn.

I'm in the middle. The books were entertaining, but poorly written. I mostly read them to see what the fuss was all about. Thank goodness I didn't waste my money on these books and just borrowed a copy.0
-
Read all three. Took them for what they are, fiction books. I glad I didn't buy them, they were loaned to me. Don't really think about them anymore. I'm more a Dean Koontz fan.0
-
Definitely an easy read, but stupid beyond belief. I read all three because my friends kept telling me not to give up, it was going to get so good! It did not. I'll live though...no matter how bad a book turns out to be, there's nothing wrong with reading!0

I have got to be the only female that couldn't stand this book. Honestly, the writing? Terrible. The sex scenes? Repetitive. The plot? What plot?
Ugh, I tried SO hard to get through the first one...and still haven't been able to finish.0 -
I really enjoyed them.0
-
Lol, this is the book I grabbed this am on my way to the office.. I know I know I'm behind.. Better late than never tho )0
-
As an erotica writer myself, I found them ridiculous. The writing is sophomoric, repetitive, and the author herself even said, "I don't get it, I'm not a good writer". Guess it just goes to show how media hype and whatnot can sell anything. And last but not least, like others on here have mentioned, there is much better stuff online..for free.0

Hahahahahha. Amen! Seriously. If you want a real look at the BDSM world, go look up Exit to Eden by Anne Rice (the book, not the movie). 50 Shades is a horrible representation surrounded by trite and childish writing. The two main characters are a) incredibly implausible, b) so psychologically messed up that they should not have even considered being involved in BDSM, and c) predictable and inane in their reactions to normal, real-life events.
TL;DR- writing level of twilight with gross misrepresentations of the BDSM world. Read at your own risk.0 -

Lol... Read all three and loved it. Open me to a new world.0

i thought they were terrible and i'm embarrassed i read them and stuck with them to see what the hype was about. the sex scenes became so repetitive that by the second book i literally skipped ahead of them. by then i was mainly curious to see how the author would carry out stealing the entire twilight story for her books. and it's all there, you can trace twilight through every aspect of those books. (and i totally believe twilight is the only reason these books have done as well as they have. legions of twi-hards and twi-moms wanted the naughty version of bella and edward, and they got it).
second, as if the twilight books weren't frustrating enough with the lame female lead, the overprotective and stalker boyfriend, the idea that a girl has to give up everything about herself to get the guy she wants... and by doing so she gets everything she wants... at least you could blame her young age in twilight for that stupid behavior... but 50 shares applied the exact same formula to adults. so lame. ana steele is the lamest women i've ever read. LAME.0 -
The first book intrigued me, but books 2 and 3 got old really fast. Same thing over and over over, same thing over and over and over, same thing over and over and over, get my drift lol! Plus I couldn't stand Ana's character at the end. Total disappointment!0
-
Ehhh I'm almost done reading the first book and I won't read any more. I started it out of curiousity and it's kind of interesting, but she repeats a lot and I tend to notice that.
I enjoyed the books when I read them, but I agree there was too much repeat. I didn't think the sex scenes were anything special and I got tired of reading them. After a while I thought...ugh...they're doing it again? I didn't think of it as bad writing, as I don't read much. But a lot of people are saying that now. I enjoyed the actual story, but I'm going to give the Sleeping Beauty books, mentioned early on, a try.0 -

Yeah...I thought it seemed REALLY unrealistic at the end. And really...I don't think anyone's sex life is THAT good. To orgasm every single time, and sometimes just because he told her to? I don't believe it for a moment!0 -
Poor 'literature' written by a poor Author for people who lack the brain cells to pick up an actual book of worth.0
-
The first one was pretty decent. Stuck on the second one, it's not as exciting and almost predictable.
I'm a writer myself, and I write some graphic stuff at times. This is not porn by any means of the word, just a romance story. If she can publish this, heck I need to publish mine!0 -
I have read books 1 and 2 and cannot seem to get through book 3. Not as good as all the hype about these books, in my opinion.0

HATE!!
I read and I write GOOD PORN. the kind that is well-written, edited and (even in a fantasy setting) has realistic sex. 50 Shades had NONE of that.
Vomitous trash.
^^
If it was well written and less violent, yeah, it would have been a good book.
i don't mind BDSM stories, but when the author can't be bothered to google for so much as a SAFE WORD, then NO!
if you want good BDSM porn, go read the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice, writing as A. N. Roquelaure
^^^^now THAT's a good series!!
The Story of O is also a real good BDSM book, but you have to find a good translation0 -
I have not read it yet. I have several friends who have read it. I do however know that the author did not do her research on BDSM. The book bordered on abuse rather than be about true BDSM play. Most of the people who come join the BDSM community after reading these books usually don't stay because what they see is a lot more hard core than what is in the book.
EXACTLY!! BDSM is a lot more than just being tied up or spanked. The author really had no clue on the scene and probably just wiki'd some info. All of a sudden women are trying to be subs and buying riding crops because of this book...let them meet a true Dom and see what it's about...it'll be all vanilla after that0 -
I heard some audio readings of it. It sounds absolutely ridiculous and impossible to take seriously. :laugh:0

I'm not sure if you have to be a member to see this review, but it's worth it: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/340987215
Spot on review, pretty much.
I don't understand how anyone can get turned on by those poorly written sex scenes. Aaaaand I don't understand how anyone would want Grey.
AHAHHAHAHA YES. Thank you for this link. BEST REVIEW EVER.0 -

I had to stop reading about 100 pages in when the Prince beats that guy to a pulp and then, well, if you all read it you know what he does. It's better writing than 50 Shades, but it's pretty horrible, anyway.I heard some audio readings of it. It sounds absolutely ridiculous and impossible to take seriously.
It was like that car wreck you can't take your eyes off of, but the best part was the readers doing the "voices" of the characters. What made it funnier was that they were serious. The book would be great if it were supposed to be comedy.0 -
So many positive AND negative comments... So I am struggling on one question: To download or to not download!0
-
I liked the first 2, the last one was my least favorite. The writing does sound juvenile, but I had no expectations when I started reading them. So I liked the books. I'd love to find more books in that genre.0
