Does it have any man made chemicals in it? Did it come from the ground or used to be alive? Then ya its probably bad for you. Am I purist no...I love Chemicals.

Everyone needs to pound a package of Oreos every once in a while right?

but ya unnatural stuff not good for you. Its kind of easy really....The word unnatural? Ya its UN NATURAL

Assuming you stay within your calorie limits, it shouldn't slow down weight loss. One problem is that people tend to overeat when they drink it due to the fact that they think they can eat more (which technically you can, but they go overboard and eat a lot more), and that it leaves a lingering sweetness on your tongue that can make you crave more food. But the problem isn't really the product itself.

I don't think it's good for the body, though, just like most artificial sweeteners and refined sugar.
  • It eats away the enamel on your teeth unfortunately. I still drink it like crazy though!

    Edit: spelling

    Fat loss - no
Weight loss and appearance - yes but only because carbonation can cause bloating in some people and the sodium content can cause temporary water retention which shows up on the scale...

Here's a good article that shows scientific studies done from both sides of the diet soda argument. For me, since its still under debate, I avoid.

Are you sure it didn't used to be alive?

Beyond your original question a bit... I find when I drink/eat foods with artificial sweeteners I get a craving for simple carbs same as if I'd eaten straight up simple carbs. So for me it's not something I choose to mess with. I'd rather have a cookie than drink diet pop! :smokin:

How is it bad for you? The class is listening. INB4 pseudo conspiracy theories on how artificial sweeteners are ruining the world.

Yes. It's terrible for you. If you drink it, your insides will rust, and eventually, you will implode. Ask the millions of diet coke drinkers on the planet. They'll tell you.

I watched a though provoking video yesterday about artificial sweetners...

    http://www.doctoroz.com/episode/should-you-give-artificial-sweeteners

He talks about how your body releases insulin, how your brain's addiction centers are activated, but how your body recognizes it is not real sugar and continues to crave more. Possible results are metabilic syndrome, insulin resistance, etc.

Not saying don't drink Diet Coke, I firmly believe everything on moderation. Just gives you something to consider.

I heard from the health clinic that diet soda is not good for your bones. It causes Osteoperosis!

I read somewhere that it does something to the brain to make you crave sweets.

Forget weight loss, yes it is bad for you it's full of rubbish.
  • 20 + years of drinking it and I'm not dead yet. If it's killing me, it's not very efficient at it. :drinker:

    Everything is bad for you.
  • My personal experience (not everyone's, just mine) is that I feel bloated when I drink diet soda, and I gain water weight. Partly because if I'm drinking diet soda, I forget to drink my water. I also feel that the carbonation disrupts my digestion of certain foods, and on top of all that, when I drink diet Coke (or Pepsi) I get a really sharp, shooting pain on the top, right side of my head. Only when I drink diet Coke or Pepsi, not other carbonated sodas. When I am off the stuff, the pain goes away. I have heard both sides, good and bad, for and against diet Coke/Pepsi. You might like it for the caffeine if you have a headache, but then you might not want to get addicted to it. I would say, listen to your body, track your own weight while on and off the drink, and see how it affects YOU. My personal opinion is that as a general rule, it's not great. But I still like my 20 oz. now and then! :)

Oh sweet jesus, yes!!! Soda diet or not is bad all the way around. It can hide fat deep in your bones, muscle mass and over time it can age your heart, kidneys and take a toll on your vascular system. I'm a a diet Pepsi person at heart but when I read what even 1 sode a day can do long term to your body, I limit a soda to maybe once a month a best. I also found when I quit diet sodae, I lost 5 pounds over a month without chaning anything except skipping the soda. My mom was a "Diet Rite" fan for a lot of years and I told her to try skipping the soda, she was amazed at how much lighter she felt.

    That's my '2cents'....

No. Seriously, there are lots of people who think so, but they are wrong. Diet Coke is artificial sweetener, water, and carbon dioxide. Artificial sweeteners go through insane procedures to get approved. Scientists shove full of sweeteners at a a higher amount per body mass than you could ever achieve to try to give them health problems and fail. As for soda water, despite being mildly acidic and thus able to clean a penny, it is fine for you. Ask any old Jew in New York.

I've heard that if you drink enough diet coke, it will eat away at the parts that attach your body parts to each other, then they will detach and start to float. Once that happens, the weight of those organs/parts will no longer register on the scale, and you will instantly lose large amounts of weight,

I don't drink it because I have thin enamel on my teeth and the dentist said that the citric acid in diet pop is really bad for it. Although citric acid is in plenty of fruits too but at least they are good for you!

I don't think it will slow down weight loss, as long as you don't crave sweet things with it. But my dentist recommends drinking through a straw to minimise the contact with your teeth.
