Sorry guys it took me so long to post a new thread I am just down for some reason today and yesterday.TOM made its debut Saturday and I have felt kind of depressed since then.I am so close to giving up on this weight loss thing because I feel like I am not getting anywhere with it.I keep gaining and losing the same freaking 4 pounds.Last week I was down to 231 this week back up to 235 which is not bad and I know its probably water and I also went hog wild this weekend literally but I didn't gain.I just get tired of eating the same healthy food but those are the ones I can afford in my budget I have a family of 5 to feed so I have to watch how much I spend.I'm not going to give up I just feel down thats all.

This weekend just flew by, I can't believe that it is Monday morning...

awestfall: You are taking good care of yourself. Your hormones can cloud your reasoning, so hang tough for a couple of more days and you will fell better about life. A few affordable meals for us include soups or casseroles and by making them at home you can make them healthier. You can have a good variety. Portion size is the key to anything you eat. I try to have at least 20 different dinner ideas for the month with the hopes of leftovers or other occasions on the rest of the days.

bluenote: You have a way of making me smile! Thank you for sharing your successes and reminding me of the things that I take for granted. YOU ROCK! Smaller sizes for you girl...

jlb123: The pounds are melting and the curves are showing... Have you ever donated your hair to charities that make wigs for caner patients. Depending on where you donate is takes 8 - 10 inches. I have donated twice, my hair grows like a weed. Congratulations on this week biggest loser. Can I ask is there something magical about 80 oz. of water vs. the recommended 64 oz.?

mstahl: Sounds like such a lovely place you are able to get away to. I invision someplace very secluded. Drink , drink, drink, your WATER. Zero calories and a good flush of your system.

Okay, I'm having a brain cramp! I'm am leaving someone out that inspired me. Back on the last page of the post. sheesh! Sorry about that. Wishing everyone a fabulous productive week.

awestfall-Don't let it get you down. I am right there with you gaining and losing the same pounds over and over. I thought I had lost 5 pounds over the weekend. Turns out Mom's scale is WAY wrong! So I'm still at a stand still as well! Just keep doing what you are doing! You will get there! Don't give up!!

My husband and I had a mini-vacation for my birthday Thursday - Saturday, and stayed at a hotel/casino. It was fun, but hard to come back to reality yesterday and today. I weighed myself on Saturday and was very happy with no gain at 238 ... especially after all the vodka gimlets and the seafood buffet. But I usually do better on vacation than at home because I'm not snacking as much and I enjoy the meals we have instead of stuffing myself mindlessly. I had done so well with exercising every day, but Saturday I didn't do anything - I was disappointed with myself. But Sunday I did make myself go to the Y for 95 minutes (I was exhausted so really didn't want to). And I went for a mile walk to meet some friends for lunch. But I was still short on my goal of 420 minutes.

So I need to work really hard to get back on track today, it's tempting to skip exercising and make bad food choices because I'm feeling down having to be back at work, and my mini-vacation is over. The challenge this week is a good one for me because I was already thinking about skipping exercise today - but now I have to find a way to get in 45 minutes. I plan to walk tonight during my daughter's sax lesson.

    Have a great day everyone!

Snowflakes -- there's nothing magic about 80oz really. I just notice that when I drink 80-100oz instead of just 64 I feel better. I'm sure this varies from person to person so if you have an amount you know makes you feel better, then make that your goal instead. I'm not trying to force anyone to feel like they're floating away.
I have wanted to donate my hair but I haven't been able to because there's always been part of my hair that has been dyed at some point. My hair is a dirty blonde color and I look better with darker hair so I've been dying it for probably 10 years. I let it grow almost all the way out to my natural color over the last few years but I ended up dying it again last December. :ohwell:
There's just this eternal struggle with me about cutting my hair and growing it out and letting it be natural and dying it. As soon as I let it get back to my natural color I want to dye it again. As soon as I let it get long I want to cut it again. I think I'm going to stick with long and dyed for a while but my natural urge is to cut it now that it's grown out again. The grass is always greener, right?

Eh, so I was still posting on the old site...whatever my bad

awestfall- I only have one child and I know how hard it is to keep up with the demands of your family and normal life plus adding taking care of yourself (GASP:huh: ) into the mix. I got overweight worrying about everyone except myself. I am a dedicated GF, mother, daughter, employee, but I NEVER took care of myself. I know its hard and discouraging when you dont see the number change but you gotta stick to it and make that dedication to yourself! I knwo you can do it and we are all here to cheer you on! :drinker:

jlb- I saw your last post on the other thread and your little conversation with your body and the chinese food and all, haha I laughed outloud and people probably think Im crazy now, thanks!

snowflake- I think that the more water you drink the more hydrated you are and thus the less water you retain. Also, flushing out your system keeps the kidneys functioning properly and if they are working better and harder they burn more fat because its running more efficently. The more water the better. I try to drink half my weight in oz a day- so 113oz for me. I dont always reach it but I am always well above 64oz. It also has been proven that people think they are 'hungry' when really they are just thirsty. So drinking the water helps with mindless snacking and gives you a feeling that you are full. I also try to chug a bottle of water before eating so I already feel pretty full...it works for me but some dont like it.

Ok, so I am super excited! My gyms is have a 8 week long Biggest Loser contest starting on March 23rd. Its $40 and here is what you get:
    # Fast Food Nutrition Guide
    # Weekly Weigh-In
    # Weekly Activity including Group Coaching sessions and Supervised Workouts:love:
    # Health Seminars
    # “Last Chance” Group Workouts:love::drinker:
    # Daily & Weekly Motivational Emails
    # Program Kit including a Lunch Bag,
    # Water Bottle, Tape Measure & More

I am so excited about the last chance workouts and the weekly activities! I hope that going out of my excercise comfort zone will give me big numbers! I dont really care about winning biggest loser jsut so excited about the new work out regimine I will be following for those 8 weeks! Yay!:flowerforyou:

    Have a good day,

here are some tidbits I got online about the importance of water in weight loss and healthy lifestyles:

"The kidneys cannot function properly without enough water. When they do not work to capacity, some of their load is dumped on the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But if the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it cannot work at full throttle."

"Drinking an adequate amount of water every day is the best treatment for fluid retention. But when your body is given less water than it needs... it perceives the shortage as a threat to survival and will begin to retain every drop. Water reserves are stored in extra-cellular spaces (outside the cells). This water can show up as swollen feet, hands and legs."

'The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs — plenty of water — only then will stored water be released.

If water retention is a constant problem for you... excess salt may be to blame!

Your body will only tolerate sodium in certain concentrations. The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it. But getting rid of unneeded salt is easy — just drink more water!

As the water is forced through the kidneys, it will remove the excess sodium.

Over weight people need more water than thin people. Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism... it follows that the over weight person needs more water to metabolize excess fat.

Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone... which in turn, aids proper muscle contraction and prevents dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss. Shrinking cells are buoyed by water which plums the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and resilient.

Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has more waste to get rid of, and all that metabolized fat must be shed.

Again — water helps flush out this waste"

So everything I said in my initial post about water wasnt 100% accurate but I had the right idea, lol, hope this helps!

I just weighed myself here at work and this scale (which usually matches my home scale) says I'm up 7 lbs. I have shoes on with big thick heels so I'm assuming at least a pound or two there but still! I know it's water and what-not  . I'll try to use this as additional motivation. I think that when I'm low on water weight I'm around 183 so I'm going to push to get the scale to read (with clothes, no shoes) 179 by the 24th :) My monthly goals want me to 177 by April Fool's day which could be possible.

Like jlb - I'm hoping my big weekend has my body all ready to burn off some fat since so much energy is available! For breakfast I had a 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt (1% milk fat) and a 1/2 cup caramel Fiber One, with a TBSP of organic maple syrup - OMG YUM!

Lunch today will be left over pasta from the weekend which I made with Dreamfields pasta, venison, tomato sauce with onions and mushrooms (homemade), low fat ricotta cheese and only a little regular cheese. It shouldn't be more than a couple hundred calories for the cup I brought with me. Dinner tonight will be left over venison chili from the weekend and a glass of wine.

We finished the Percy Jackson series so we'll be arguing over what series to read next - any suggestions? Lord of the Rings has too much Elvish speak in it to read aloud... We've already read the Narnia series... Feel free to suggest! And it does NOT have to be fantasy or a children's book series (but it would help if it were easy to read aloud!)

I got a call from my 17 yo granddaughter last night- she is buying her own ticket to fly out to see us over her spring break! I'm so excited!!!!! I generally only see the kids for a week once a year in the summer. This year one of the 15 yo twin boys (Alex) is coming out for the entire summer to work a summer job here! I have to say that it's so amazing to think kids from CA would choose to come to Ohio and hang out with their Grandparents over staying home with their friends and California options! They live an hour from Tahoe and about 3 hours from San Francisco - when I go out to their place I'm always dragging them off to see their amazing state (3 hours from Yosemite, 1.5 hours from Napa, a few hours from the Russian River valley).

I'd really like to look healthy and fit to Meghan when she arrives - I'd like her to see that we all have the power to reinvent ourselves. She's a beautiful (too thin!) young woman but she's been dealing with parents who won't grow up and take responsibility for their own actions. I want her to see that at any age we can change our outlook and behavior and adopt new healthy attitudes  I am so proud of who she's becoming, against all odds, and I don't want her to lose her momentum!

And on a very mundane note- I am wearing a pair of slacks that have been in my closet for at least four years. They are size 16 but fit like the 14s - I found them on a hanger way in the corner and tried them on and YES they fit beautifully! I don't care that they say 16s because I know they were too small and now they fit and that's enough to make me feel good! It felt wonderful ripping off the price tag (they'd been marked down to $4 from $40) and getting some use out of them! They are cut to be fitted and they're almost lose so I might only get a few weeks wear out of them - wouldn't that be fabulous!

Awestfall - look for cheap healthy recipes on here and other diet sites- query by our favorite protein ingredients (canned salmon or tuna, or cheap cuts of beef or eggs etc) for new ideas. Remind yourself that by eating boring healthy foods you're giving your entire family a wonderful gift - they might not NEED to eat healthy to lose weight and look good but their bodies THANK YOU and you're setting great habits for them! I know you're not going to give up because I know how much BETTER you feel about your body, your energy and your health! But don't beat yourself up when you are doing such WONDERFUL THINGS for yourself AND your family! You are fabulous:flowerforyou: and you're a wonderful mother  and we all love you and appreciate all you do for this thread :smooched: !

I love you girls! Let's make this a fabulous week!

    Happy Monday, everyone!

bluenote: Congrats on having your students notice your weight loss. That's so awesome and kids can be so sweet!

Jlb: Congrats on being the biggest loser last week. Way to rock the size 12s...it's so exciting. You'll be wearing them comfortably and look hot in them in no time. I love the challenges because they are the two things I have been struggling with lately, so we'll see if I can stick with them. I've had two servings of water so far, so I'm at least off to a good start.

Cris: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Your Biggest Loser challenge sounds awesome because of the workouts. You'll have to let us know what they have you doing!

So I have to admit I ate terribly this weekend (Applebee's, McDonald's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Famous Dave's). I straight up scared my metabolism and am paying for it this morning with a 3 lb. gain on the scale. So, I have a liar ticker right now, but again can probably contribute it all to the increase sodium because I didn't go over the calories by 3500 this weekend. I'll work on flushing everything today.

Last night, my boyfriend and I sat down to analyze our weekend and made a new resolution to go for a walk every day we're together and the weather cooperates. We are also going to cut the eating out down to one day (most likely Saturday evening) per week. We both want to save money and lose weight. He is within a few lbs. of being under 200 and I am within a few pounds of being under 190, so we need to get busy!!

Mstahl: It looks like we were posting at the same time. Congrats on the $4 slacks fitting! It's also great to hear your granddaughter will be visiting you! You're a great role model for her.

Have you and your husband read the Harry Potter series? They're great if you haven't. I'd also recommend The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks, even though it isn't a series. It has a little something for everyone (romance, suspense, humor).

This might be too young - but I had to mention it since the movie is coming out soon ... the series with 'How to Train Your Dragon' (Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) by Cressida Cowell, is a lot of fun. I have read all of the books except the latest to my 9 year old boy and we have enjoyed them - my 16-yr old always steals them and reads them too (and she also likes the Percy Jackson books).
Like hajohnson24 recommended - the Harry Potter books are great. I actually only read the first one out loud ... and then we purchased all the books on CD to listen to on long car trips ... they are incredible- well worth the money. The narrator does all the character's voices and is excellent.

    Hi Heather & lstPaul -

Reading the Harry Potter series is what got us on this "reading by the fire at night" kick LOL! He doesn't read fiction but he started reading the Harry Potter books after I was into them and when the sixth book came out he wasn't reading it fast enough and I wanted to TALK ABOUT IT! So I started reading it to him to catch him up to me - then when we were done with it we decided we wanted to re-read the entire series! After the last book came out we re-read the series again! Love those books!

Good morning girls, I am starting to feel a little more like myself. I am still dealing with something that is so much more harder than I ever thought it would be. It is something that I have always known about but never had to deal with it. Now it is in my face and it is tearing me apart. I have decided though that I am going to not let it. (I know you guys are wondering what in the world I am talking about , but this is about all I am willing to share on a public site) Anyways for the first time in almost 2 weeks I got up and exercised. I took my little man for a walk. the last 10 minutes of the 1 hour walk I carried him on my back. He represents almost what I have lost. He weighs about 38-39pounds. I took this when we got back from our walk. He reminded me that I want to be healthy and able to take him on walks.

Hi everyone. I've been being so bad this weekend, but hopfeully I didnt put on any permanent weight..I think its mostly water weight because I lost 2 pounds over night, so I hope to get those other 2 off. I'm so close to being in the 230's and believe me, that's something I really want. I'll check in later, after I force myself to go upstairs and do the eliptical machine. T_T

Time to get back on the wagon and work hard.

awestfall: You're doing fine, you shouldnt worry so much. my weight went up 5 pounds overnight from 240, and I really wanted to see 239 that day. You just have to take it as it comes and keep plugging away at it.

cris: thanks for all the info on water! i recently found out the "cup" Ive been using is actualy 16 oz, so I get two cups per "cup" lol

mstahl: Way to go on the slacks! My own pants are getting loose and falling down a little and it feels great! 4$ is a great deal for a pair of "buffer" pants lol I'm almost afraid to buy new for my in between sizes, I feel like I'm wasting away.

Wow.. it took me 45 minutes of reading to catchup! Anyhow.. sounds like there is lots going on all over. I too did not do well this weekend or today. From not exercising since Friday to not logging my food and probably eating more than I should have, I am sure the scale not be very kind right now (but I am still boycotting until I have a FULL week of doing what I am suppose to). Plus TOM decided it was time to visit. Oh joy....

On a good note.. I went and saw my new M.T. today and she was AWESOME!!! So, between the muscle relaxant, Chiro and Massage today I am pretty much BUTTER.. with no motivation to do anything but go to sleep early tonight!

I am hoping tomorrow goes a little better. I have such a hard time sticking to my exercise and eating right routine on Sat (always crazy busy) and Sun, Mon and Tues (my husbands days off) My schedule always gets thrown off.

    Talk to you all later

Your health is more important that anyone else in your family because they rely on you to look after them. Don't forget about all of those inches you have lost. Hell with the scale, you are healthier and smaller and we are not giving up on yoU!!!!!!:flowerforyou: xoxo

Cris-Thanks for all the info on the water! It makes total sense. And that biggest loser challenge sounds like so much fun! Wish my gym would do something like that. I might be a little peeved if I was you as well. Working your butt off while he sits there. This may be why I'm single though! LOL  Just kidding!!

momma-I will keep you in my prayers! I know you will get passed whatever it is you are going through. We are always here if you need to vent or talk. It always makes ya feel better to blow off steam. And your lil man is adorable!

I'm not sure what else I missed but all of you are always in my thoughts in prayers. We will get through this journey together! I know there are several people at a plateau or had a rough weekend like I did but we will all get back on track together and keep on going.

I started the couch25k today...and I did day 1!! I was so excited that I got on the treadmill and actually RAN! ME!! I did the whole workout today without giving up, quitting or stopping. I was super excited. I think I maintained a pretty good jog as well. Not sure what everybody else started out at when they began but I was running at a 4.6. Made my day! And then I did an additional 15 minutes on the bike. Gotta get my 45 minutes of cardio in for this weeks challenge!

    Checking in for 3/8
Calories-1484...ate some of my exercise calories..going to see what that does for this plateau.
Water-128 oz as of right now
    Sodium-1938
Exercise-c25k week 1 day 1 and then 15 minutes on the bike

Proud-I started the couch25k program and actually liked it. Also got Godiva chocolates today at work and I didn't even bother to open the box!

Hope everybody had a great Monday!

Chirs - I like the way you think

My husband and I had a truce over the TV - No TV before dinner was finished period. It used to get turned on when we walked in the door and stay on till we went to bed. We didn't think it was a problem but stuff like what you went through tonight happened all the time (to both of us).

After a while we just stopped bothering to turn it on at all. Now its the computers that can be annoying but I'll click my laptop shut here in a bit and read... SOMETHING tonight while we sit by the fire.

I think we're going to read The Golden Compass tonight because we have a copy on hand!

    Calories: will be 1459
Exercise: 30 minutes stationary bike, 20 minutes running (did a week 3 workout with 2 different running speeds instead of walking -- was GREAT!), 13 minutes walking, 23 minutes calisthenics. So, I got my 45 minutes of cardio today!
    Water: 96 oz so far
Proud: I kicked it into gear today! I haven't weighed in several days because I knew I'd be retaining water from all the sodiumrific food. But I weighed after I got home from work tonight and I was only 1 pound over what I was Friday morning so that means I'm probably actually down from Friday even after eating Mexican, Chinese, and not really exercising. On top of all that I'm expecting TOM any day, so I'm really surprised.

    Checking in for yesterday (3/8)
Calories - over by a little
    Water - I did it!!!
Exercise - only my push-ups and crunches :ohwell: I just didn't feel well  but I'll make it up today with at least 90 minutes of aerobics! I already have 40 minutes in on the elliptical this morning, and I'll walk at lunch for 45 minutes- which gives me 5 minutes for jump rope which is about all I can take!

Proud - This is a little weak, but when my DH brought out the hunter's double Gloucester with Stilton cheese, I said "OK, but just an oz. and this will be dinner for me!" So while it might not be a great idea to substitute wine and cheese for venison chili with a dab of Greek yogurt on top... it was better than having BOTH!

My breakfast the past two days has been 1/2 cup 1% Greek yogurt (still making my own and:love: LOVING:love: IT), 1TBSP Organic maple syrup, and 1/2 cup of the Fiber One Caramel cereal - it's DELISH!!! I usually just use splenda but I'm trying to use some more natural sugars where I can afford the calories... Honey is great in Greek yogurt but I like the real maple syrup even better!

I understand that a teacher was out so the kids were mixed together and with new teachers but dang...
