    Amen! And well said.

Reparative therapy is ILLEGAL is many states. As a therapist, I think Dr. Oz is WAY OFF TRACK!!! He should stick to heart stuff. He is apparently unaware that in all animal species, there are gay relationships.

I can't figure out why he is causing so much harm to those in the gay family.

    Your comment is spot on!

That's like asking why there is no white pride parade. Yes, let us celebrate how privileged we are and always have been!

Gay pride parades aren't about "Yay! We're gay!" It's a celebration of how far they've come and how they've gotten through the things that they have. Like Stonewall, for example. There's plenty to celebrate and they have every right to be proud of it.

This reminds me of part of an Andrea Gibson poem -

Every night, I drove through Kansas
with I swear to God, a pink barrette in my f*cking pocket
in case I had to split second decide if woman would be safer armor than this
when his flashing blue lights give me ten seconds to pick what target he’ll be less likely to miss
Officer, I’d be willing to bet those arrows would look a whole lot sharper in my cupid hands
than in the dull hatchet of your hate, than in the way you spit the word “ma’am” down my throat
like I might swallow it in the same gulp as my pride when you decide who I am
But remember, pride? That’s my parade
Built from the fairy wings of boys who bulldozed your barricades
the day you claimed AIDS was a gift of God

"Therapy" suggests a malfunction, something that needs corrected.

Sexual orientation does not need to be corrected. Anything claiming it can do so is just a shaming tactic designed to shove obvious behaviors under the rug.

Funny. This is the same argument used by NAMBLA and other pedophile organizations.
I doubt very much that the "tolerant" crowd would tolerate a pervert seducing their children in the name of being tolerant of other people's sexual orientation.

    What the?!?!

I like how this conversation completely changed from what the topic is actually about. You cannot.... change your sexual orientation. The only reason (my belief) a "gay" male may be able to marry a women and have children is because he was not 100% gay. Sidenote - no one (again my opinion) is completely one way or the other. Sexuality is every changing gradient. I myself am bisexual. I have been with men and women and now in a committed relationship with my gf for 1 1/2 years. Yes i'm 21 and relatively younger than most people on this site. However i have had my fair share of opposition to my sexuality. I can be with a man and I can be with a women. Your sexual orientation does not change. You are born as you are. You are (insert name here). That's it. That's first. You're not gay or straight first.

Also my opinion on the other part. Gay pride is for those who feel safe to be out in public. It is a celebration of who we are because we are a minority. It is not just for gay but allies as well. There is nothing wrong with it. I'm not for people who are constantly in your face like "I'M GAY OMG I'M GAY DID YOU SEE THAT I'M GAY" no...thats not cool and annoying. On the other hand i OPENLY kiss and hold my gf's hand in public. Almost anywhere unless there is a place where we do not feel safe. Again safety is the main concern. We do live in a hetero-normative culture....all that means is that hetero is the norm. Can anyone deny that. I can't and it will ALWAYS be that. Having feeling for the same sex will always be in the minority. Just accept everyone for who they are....that's all.

Again....you can't change you sexuality and Dr.Oz is a quack.

In my personal opinion reperative therapy is more damaging than anything since brainwashing was introduced. Let people love who they love. WHy is that so hard for people. I have no problem with PDA's no matter what your sexual orentation is as long as I dont start to feel like I'm in a porno. However I do ask all my friends striaght, bi, and gay to contain themsleves to PG behavior in front of my children. My Bf and I do as well its just easier then anserwing questions (PG includes making out) .

And by the way, everyone who is posting that they might disagree with the 'lifestyle' but they are 'tolerant' and believe that those misguided gays still deserve respect...? Do you want a cookie? Congrats on being an almost-decent-but-not-quite person.
This bugs me as well as the people who have gay friends but who actively campaign against gay rights. I don't know exactly where on the line I fall, because I have people in my life I care very much about yet we disagree on some fundamental things, like certain aspects of their religion. But none of us are trying to take rights away from the other. I don't know how you can truly call yourself a friend if you're trying to keep them from having the same rights as you do.

Excuse me, sir, do you know what a "Slippery Slope" argument is?

Don't bother; his inability to see the clear and bold distinction in the first place means you'll just be pissing in the wind.

Well, I'm pretty hydrated, so I have plenty of piss to spare...

I do not believe that you are born homosexual. There are some who may want therapy because they feel like they are not doing something they should. If a person wants therapy...let them get it. BTW I am not a hater, and do not go around saying malicious things about anyone.

If you believe in the Bible and God, you can't refute this verse:

    1 Corinthians 6:9

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

Yes cause one day I was bored and I thought 'Hmm what shall I do today? I know, I think I'll just choose to start fancying girls' and then as if by magic the way I think, my feelings, my sexual responses all changed dramatically from being straight to gay...

    If you really follow the bible word for word, then fair enough but if you pick and choose which bits you agree with whilst not following all these other outdated ones then I don't really get your point.;

According to the Bible, if a woman's husband dies and she hasn't had a son, she must marry his brother and have intercourse with him until she has a son (Mark 12:18-27).

Not only should a wife be subordinate (Ephesians 5:22), but she should also prove her virginity... lest she be stoned (Deuteronomy 22:20-21).

Then I just took the following from here as it amused me.... http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?54547-Hilarious-answer-to-the-anti-Gay-scriptures-in-the-bible...&s=d9023a36e0135c86885ff080fa2f8907

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

    a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

    b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

    c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

    d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

    e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

    f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

    g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

    h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

    i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

    j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Born this way.... love the ladies. I can certainly admire a guys body - I just don't want to play with it.

No one chooses to be different then the social norm. Gets you too much *kitten* from repressed thinkers (and yes they do still exist). I hope finally when the younger generations run the planet that these phobias will finally be put to rest. After all if someone hits on you (regardless of their sex) - hmmm means you are doing something right.

Ooh, I think I just saw the dead horse twitch. Whack, whack, whack.

Alan Turing helped break the German enigma cypher and invented the most fundamental tenets of computer science (which has now allowed some people to contribute their bigotry to the internet.)

After a consensual sexual relationship with an adult, Turing was robbed. Upon reporting the robbery to the police, they discovered his homosexuality and he was convicted for indecency, subjected to chemical castration, and eventually committed suicide.

Solved that problem, boy howdy. Thank god we got that freak off the streets before he could hurt someone. Like the Nazis.

This thread calls to mind a few quotes:

“Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd.”
    ― Bertrand Russell, Unpopular Essays

“People are sheep. TV is the shepherd.”
― Jess C. Scott, Literary Heroin (Gluttony): A Twilight Parody

“Moral certainty is always a sign of cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and what is wrong. All human progress, even in morals, has been the work of men who have doubted the current moral values, not of men who have whooped them up and tried to enforce them. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant.”
    ― H.L. Mencken

“Whoever controls the media, controls the mind”
    ― Jim Morrison--The Doors

“Popular culture is a place where pity is called compassion, flattery is called love, propaganda is called knowledge, tension is called peace, gossip is called news, and auto-tune is called singing.”

I do not believe orientation can be changed. I do believe some folks get confused when they are younger, and/or feel pressured by society to be something they aren't. Both straight and gay.

I should know. Raised Christian, went to a Christian college, lost God along the way because of shame and fear, married for 12 years, to my best friend in order to hide my sexuality from my family, church and society.

I finally came out this year, and surprisingly it was when I found the strength from prayer to God. It was just as bad as I feared all those years, but totally worth it to finally be who I am. I 40 year old gay christian woman.

It is not a choice, but people sometimes make choices about their identity. (That they may or may not regret)

Even though this thread is just inevitably getting locked... damn, baby, can I have your number?

Ahhh, people quoting Bible when they don't realize what they are saying. Christians don't follow Old Testament laws... We are under the New Testament. All those questions posted are from the Old law... Thankfully we no longer have to worry about cotton/polyester blends and animal sacrifices!

It depends which christians you ask.
