    Well sitting here having my soup and canned this time but primo pretty good. And only a bit over 200 calories for the can. Wasn't about to put what was left over in the fridge just to throw out in a couple days. LOL.

    Well having a very productive day. Have the last of laundry in the washer. And going to finish my kitchen and make a mess making meat pies. Oh well.

    Sounds like every one is having a great Dec.

    Hello all, I was in this group once before but lost the link. And my motivation. :blushing: But it's time to stop the tide of regaining weight. Wow, 17 pages in 11 days, looks like this thread can be my lunch time reading/motivation.

    My goals for December are to stay away from the free food at work and to get back on the treadmill at least 3 times a week.

    The chocolate lab- ate a doggy milk bone that was decorated as a reindeer ornament! Not chocolate! Lol.:laugh: It was 12 years old, it had glue and a little fuzzy red ball for the nose, 2 googly eyes and a red ribbon to hang it on the tree with.:noway: The dog can never get enough to eat or drink. I had her tested for diabetes, but no she does not have that.:noway:
    I was so mad that she ate the preschool keepsake, that I asked her if she wanted a gastric bypass for Christmas! Lol:laugh:
    I believe she would eat herself to death if she could.:ohwell:

    BJ- I have seen that doggies shame website. I will have to put her on it! She was a very naughty lab! Sandy Claws might bring her a "coal milkbone" this year! Lol:explode: :laugh:

    I just read my post from the iPhone and the typos and punctuation errors made me laugh.:laugh: :laugh: I am happy that I found the way to read the posts,so I don't have to wait to get on the computer to read them.:drinker:

    I was thinking that a way to check how you are doing might be to look at your total calorie deficit for the week. It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound. So, if you are not achieving this then there will not be a "true weight loss" :tongue:

    Good Day, Ladies: I am glad to be back. While going through all my "drama" in the last few months, I gained over 14 lbs. from when I was last here but fortunately I have lost those and then lost another 3 so that is the good news.

    There are so many new faces but so many I do not know as yet, but give me some time to catch up and I will know you in no time at all. :wink:

    I am being very faithtul to my new way of eating this time as I am using the help of a nutritionist and that is really helping me. I have to check in with her every 2 weeks and that is keeping me right on track. I have been keeping a diary of my food for her so I thought I should join back up again. Both my bosses have joined back up again as well, so we are all encouraging each other. And of coruse, the support from here is also immeasurable :smile:

    My only downside is I am not exercising enough and that is my own fault; I need to get more active and I know that. We even have a gym in our building so there is no excuse for me, just pure laziness!!! When I get home from work, I am just tired and don't feel like it, so I will have to get over that and get more active, I know that. I will!! :ohwell:

    I have spent so much time worrying about my brother and my son and my sister that I have just lost track of me, but I have to gain that back to get back on track and I realize that. Then my other sister that I was close with moved from Toronto to Florida as well and that was hard too (I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters, 1 brother already passed). But, as I say, this nutritionist is helping me to get focused more on me and what I have to do to get me where I have to be! :noway:

    Now Christmas is here and the little ones are so excited, it is too cute. The grandchildren are so wonderful at this time of year. :love:

    I see by the postings that lots of you are losing weight; good for you. All we can do is try at this time of year with all the treats and such!! :laugh:

    Well, My Friends. I love the Vitamin F analogy, that is so true. :flowerforyou:

    JB, so sorry to hear about the shooting, and so near you. It makes me sad how much senseless violence is occurring these days - really wonder about the tests they used to do about lab rats and how they react when in overpopulated and stressed situations. Ugh.

    Just went for my walk - it's still chilly but if I run on the downhills I warm up pretty fast - I was shedding clothes by the end. Speaking of which, public safety announcement: when you've lost a lot of weight, you need to get rid of your workout clothes that don't fit. And possibly wear safety-underwear with your too-big pants when running. :tongue: :blushing:

    Sundance - your message was a challenge to read!!! So funny that your dog ate a 12 year old decorated reindeer dog biscuit. (Well, not funny that you lost this treasure but funny that the dog still saw it as just a dog biscuit.)

    DeeDee - I WANT homemade fruitcake. Be glad you didn't inherit your Mom's cooking skills. I did (well, not your Mom's but mine :laugh: ) and now I am paying for creating some of the most fattening cajun meals you've ever seen. and then to add to it my husband loves to cook too. We're doomed.

    I have nothing new to report. Can't seem to kick my weight loss journey back into gear. If I see a loss this Friday I will be shocked.

    I am adding this. Someone pointed out something to me - smoothies may be detrimental to your diet. For instance- if you eat your food, you actually burn calories chewing it, and your body burns calories breaking down the food. If you blend it to a liquid there is far less calorie burning and more pure calorie absorbing. It was worth a ponder to me.

    Didn't have much to catch up to as I had my soup with you gals. Then went and made my meat pies managed to get 9 big ones and four little ones. And that's all i'm making this year. I'm wondering how in heck I used to make 100 and some years more to sell. That and cookies by the dozen. And fancy cookie baskets. To old for that now.

    So sitting here waiting to take them out of oven. Got the first few out. Supper tonight meat pie and a salad and pickled beets. But only after tops lol.

    My son had black labs the old one is a wonderful dog. You can put a dog bone in front of her and she won't take it until you say ok it's yours. But her daughter sure isn't the same. She's still a pup and pretty playful.
    I add up my seven days here then see where I am calorie wise and everything else what I aim for is to be between 1200 and 1500 for my week.

    Grandkids sure add a lot to Christmas. Sure would be boring without them.

    Well the meat pies are putting the Christmas smell through the house. And tonight it will be cookies.

    @wessecg - I also heard the same about smoothies. However, if it is a choice between bad choices and a healthy smoothie, I assume the smoothie should win. It does not effect me however, as I don't even like smoothies.

    @Cathy - what a good idea that you are working with a nutritionist. Sure helps keep one accountable and much more likely on track.

    I am writing this on my lunch time, so must cut my time with you short.

    Busy week here. Just one quick comment---

    I make a smoothie everyday that's like ice cream. I love it, I really do not care what someone says about not chewing. By that logic my Smoothie is very healthy because it's so cold my body has to work to warm it up as I eat it with a spoon because there's no way it would ever go through a straw. :laugh: :wink: :laugh:

    Be safe and drink that water. :drinker: :drinker:

    Cheryl, no offense to your friend but if we had an issue with not getting enough exercise through chewing, none of us would be in this situation lol! :tongue: In truth, I have a smoothie in the morning in order to get the protein powder down. No way do I want to have to try to put that in something that isn't blended. I actually just want the protein. I don't care about the form it takes. However, if I were ONLY existing on smoothies for an extended period of time, I would fully expect to see all kinds of issues crop up. I'm pretty sure we're not meant to exist on liquid diets.

    Happy Weds everyone. Here's a great recipe for red beans. :love: I made a half-batch today, which makes about 8 cups. Just cut everything in half from the list below.. This recipe is also excellent without sausage or meat of any kind, but today I added about 4 oz of leftover pork roast instead of using sausage. I don't add any salt since the even the reduced sodium chicken broth is plenty salty for my taste.

    Yo Mama's Red Beans

    2 T veg oil
    2 c. chopped onions
    1 c. chopped green peppers
    1 lb smoked sausage (optional)
    2 T. minced fresh garlic
    2 T. minced fresh ginger
    7-8 c. chicken stock
    1/4 c lightly packed chopped fresh parsley
    1 lb dried red kidney beans* (soaked overnight)
    * or small red beans

    Seasoning mix:
    2 t dry mustard
    1 t cayenne
    1 t cumin
    1 t garlic powder
    1 t dried oregano
    1 t ground dried pasilla chile peppers
    1 t black pepper
    1 t dried thyme
    1/2 t white pepper
    salt to taste (at the end of cooking only)

    Slice and brown the sausage if using. Saute half of the onions, add garlic and ginger, saute for 5-10 mins, then add remaining onions, beans, sausage and seasonings. Cook 5 min. Add stock and cook 2 hrs.

    M, last spring I about lost my drawers while jogging one morning. :blushing: Now I can only wear them if I wear my rain pants over top to keep them from falling down around my ankles. They're still in great condition, so maybe I'll take them in if I ever get my sewing machine set up. Thanks for the warning, knowing me I would have forgotten about the underwear lol

    The shooting here at the mall in Portland yesterday sure put a damper on everyone's spirits. My heart just breaks for the poor families of the two people killed. So very, very sad. :cry:

    Happy Wednesday ...well the boss wants the mass mailing to all of our clients to go out in the mail either tomorrow or Friday...the letters are printed and signed...so all we have to do is stuff them..:noway: ...there are 1200-1300 letters, we are including a map (I only have about 1000 copied so far, and we use regular stamps...have I mentioned there are 3 of us in the office (including the boss) and he had to leave early to have dinner with a friend....hmmmm.....maybe this merger isn't such a bad thing:ohwell:

    The mischievous kitten was given the name Cornelius by the spca...we call him CK for Cornelius Kitty...he is very entertaining and is beginning to settle in...he did not try to climb into dh's lap once at dinner...he tried 4 times last night.

    Barbie - I hope you are riding that bike as I type...I use my bike a couple of mornings a week..I am inspired by the amount of movement you do in a day...I don't have as much time but try to use reasonable goals for where I am and the time I have available

    Linda s - i would be so upset about losing the preschool decorations...you seem to be taking it in stride

    Cathy - welcome back...I am sorry for the drama and challenges in your life and will keep you and yours in my prayers.

    Hello lovely ladies. What a day! We had our test review and I had a meeting, now I have been doing final clinical evaluations with students and trying to work on both my upcoming course and my current course’s gradebook to ensure that it is correct. OMG This learning platform system we have is incredibly complex, however, you can’t even do something simple like view all the points in the gradebook. It only gives the %. I cannot wrap my mind around a percent when you can only accumulate 300 points in one category, so the IT guy and I go round and round. Each semester he helps me set my course and gradebook up and each semester, it is totally screwed up and has to be monkeyed with.:explode:

    Last night’s meeting with DD#1 went pretty well. She seemed to be open to what we had to say, especially me, so that was good. DD#2 and hubby are going to the counselor today, so when he has alone time with her, he is going to fill her in on all the weirdness we have going on. Such a drama factory.

    Glenda: I too eventually look forward to the start of a new year and normalcy!

A friend told me about MFP and that she's having good results with it, so I decided to check it out. I joined in Nov. of this yr and I love it! I'm already losing how cool is that?!

    This past Monday I fell after shoveling my driveway & sidewalk. Wouldn't you know I broke my arm :sad: Talk about a setback. Though I can't do my usual exercise I'm determined to eat healthy the best I can and hoping I can continue to lose weight.

    My Goals for Dec.:

    Hi Sue, and Welcome! Sorry about your arm -- but you can still run, walk or bike, right? You are off to a great start, and also have a terrific excuse to have someone else do the shoveling. (I screwed my shoulder up big time shoveling a couple of years ago; lots of physical therapy and still haven't gotten back into my upper body groove but that's on my January list...)

    :flowerforyou: M, my blood pressure is frequently higher at the doctor’s office than in other settings where I’ve had it done…..the doctor’s office is a very anxiety filled place for me.

    :flowerforyou: I lost 70 pounds and have kept it off with the help of Isagenix shakes for two meals a day so it probably makes a lot of difference what you put in your smoothie….also I can eat my shake while riding the exercise bike which you can’t do with other sorts of meals.

    :flowerforyou: Jen, Jake finished putting the bike together about 10 PM last night…..he had trouble attaching one of the arm rests with the pulse counter….he ended up using the piece from the old bike because the holes were drilled wrong in the new one…….i rode the bike for over an hour this evening.

    :flowerforyou: Sue (lady rider) we’re glad you joined us….sorry about your arm…..I know you’ll find ways to be active while it heals.

    :bigsmile: I had a great walk in the rain with a friend on the Olympic Discovery Trail. I found out this morning that I’ll be teaching the Friday morning line dance class so I spent time planning the class….we’ll dance a few dances to Christmas music.

    Well, I am officially in my pre-holiday stress eating. After I closed out my menu, I pigged out on some cookies and candy. I actually rationalized eating the candy by telling myself that the sooner I got it out of the house, the better. lol

    Did 1 hr of yoga today then 1 hr of deep water. tomorrow I'll do a Jari Love (weights) DVD then it's my day to volunteer at the Green Room (theater, I do the box office)

    Liz - glad you're feeling better.

    Denise called tonight. She's been sick for a while now. Last week Vince told her that she needs to go to the MD to see if she needs an antibiotic to knock it out of her system. So instead she got like $40 worth of OTC stuff. Then she calls toight to say that her fever is higher and would we pay for her med? Pay for med because she made a poor choice in not going to the MD sooner? I don't think so. She said the other day that she went to work. I'm surprised they let her, she sounds terrible over the phone to us, I can imagine how she sounds at work. And she's working at a daycare. If I were a parent, I sure wouldn't want someone who was sick to be with my child. But then again, why am I surprised? They let her start work even before any of her background checks were done. What if she were a child rapist and they let her work with children? That doesn't sit well with me at all, but there's nothing I can do.

    barbie - do you keep the latkes in a baggie which you put into a dish of ice water? My grandmother used to make potato pancakes. I love them with sour cream, but haven't had them in a long time. You just can't have them without them being fried, and I really don't want something with a lot of oil

    I was going to make these oatmeal raisin cookies but the other day Jessica mentioned some cookies that had a chocolate kiss on top. Most of the recipes I've found have peanut butter in them, but today at Aldi I found a box of shortbread with chocolate drops so I'll try those instead of the oatmeal raisin. Anyway, I be the only one who would eat the oatmeal raisin and Jessica can take home the chocolate drop cookies.

    Laura - one of our cat's name is Loki -- the Norse god of mischief!!!!

    Made the salmon cakes for Christmas Eve, they're just in the refrig, will probably fry them tomorrow. Also made shrimp tarts for an appetizer (and I'll probably be the only one eating them). Still need to make the pie, the soup, and the catfish. Plus the wrapping. I didn't realize that Vince used up so much wrapping paper last yuear, now I have to go buy more. I just feel so stressed. Thank goodness I'm not planning to go to that Mahjongg lunch. I just feel like there's too much that needs to be done. Need to work on cleaning the house too.

    Cheryl - sounds very reasonable about the smoothies.

    Linda - that eyeball looking up at you must have been something else.

    A bit rushed tonight (can you tell?). I AM reading all the posts, just probably not responding to many

    barbie - about those shakes, how are they in the protein dept? Is there much sugar in them? I looked at almost all the shakes on the market in the store, and either the second or third ingredient was sugar! It was just loaded with sugar. Those meal replacement or protein bars seemed to be more like glorified candy bars than anything else. the palm oil and coconut oil in them! So how do yours stack up? I know that you have to order them over the Internet. Is there a minimum amt you have to order, what is it?

    Today was a ok day at work. I was able to stay the full day. By the end after day able to get in a workout. Now I am so tired as I keep trying to post this I keep falling asleeep. Lol so I have finally caught up on reading the posts but will not reply till later.

    Went to the Boise Botanical Garden with my SIL and Cousin in Law to see the Christmas light display. We had a great time, and the garden was beautiful.

    Barbie- I remember eating potato pancakes as a child. My dad was Jewish and my mother was Catholic .
    As children we were blessed to be a part of both religions, cultures ,foods and traditions.

    I`m not in a very good mood this morning:angry: ! Since decreasing my calories to 1300, I`ve gained 4 pounds:noway: . I`m extremly fusterated and annoyed. MFP recalculated my calories last time I weighed in and reduced my cals from 1410 to 1300....I`m just totally stumped by this. I decided I would stay at 1300 and eat a few exercise calories back...for the month of Dec.. I will be able to say I stuck with it for an entire month. I just feel like I`m on a roller coaster everyday, one day I gain 1.2, the next day I lose.1:huh: . The dress I bought in October to wear at Christmas, which was just a bit tight but I thought by Christmas it would be perfect, is still too tight:sad: , now my goal to wear that dress is Valentines day. At the end of December, if I haven`t dropped the 4 pounds, I will reevaluate my calories again...don`t have a clue what I`ll do yet. Oh well...the many trials of losing weight:grumble: !

    Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!! Drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: (I`ve had 3 big glasses so far this morning) and log your food!!!!

    Checking in for a dose of Vitamin F!!!

    Didn't sleep well last night and woke up thinking today was Friday. NOT!!! I am feeling the holiday crunch and stress all of a sudden. I am also stuck (once again) with my weight. And it is official...I am post menopausal. No friend for a year. Weird that I am a little sad about this.....

    Plan- Today is a new day. I will eat within my calories today and get in some structured exercise. I will have a plan for tomorrow. One day at a time.....

    Thanks to all my virtual friends. I am toasting your successes and sending hugs and prayers for your struggles....

    :flowerforyou: Michele, I grated the potatoes into water with ice cubes and put the bowl in the refrigerator in the morning and made the latkes around 4 PM......I drained the water out by pouring everything into a colander and pressing the potatoes down with a paper towel to get all the water out.....it worked great....I made the latkes the first time on a non-stick griddle with some buttery cooking spray and they seemed fine to me, but last night I made them in a frying pan with olive oil and Jake liked them better.....the oil is part of the tradition of Hanukkah, so cooking them in oil is really the right way.....draining the finished ones on a paper towel might get rid of some to the oily quality and serving them with applesauce helps.

    Here's a thought. Yesterday & today my scale shows a 3 pound loss. :noway: . It's taken me three months to loose the three pounds before that. I don't believe it and I'm not going to record it until it's "held" for at least a week. We shall see. That 3 pounds puts me at my goal. I must say, there's a lot of incentive now to eat carefully and keep up the exercise, because that's a pretty motivating number on the scale!

    DH the Etech thinks the problem with my Mac is the power cord, I really hope so. He had the machine apart last night and cleaned out all the lint and fluff. It charged overnight, so I am able to talk you all today. It's not charging now, though, so I may be off-line again soon.

    I have been reading all your posts and keeping up with all the news.

    A few folks have mentioned feeling overwhelmed by the pace of the season. :cry: Try not to let it get to you. It really is hard to stay out of the maelstrom, but when you get caught in the whirlpool it's time to take Glenda's advice: turn on the twinkle lights and sit down with a cup of spicy tea (or a glass of wine :wink: ) Focus on the fact it's "the season of light, hope and promise," :love: all the rest is optional. It really is. Don't do it unless you're having fun. Hugs.

    Linda-Sundance, I like the idea of a "Thoughtful Thursday", will carry that idea into the day with me.

    We have gym class first thing today - the last gym class of the year because by Monday the stage will be set up in gym and we will be full-on into Christmas Concert rehearsal mode. The grade 7 class are the actors who perform the very sketchy play that links the classroom performances. Typical stuff, except I am the grade 7 teacher who has to get them up to the microphones. :ohwell: We are having fun practicing, it remains to be seen what they will do next week. In the meantime, I'm trying to think of an energetic basketball themed game to get them moving this morning. Maybe a full class scrimmage with more than one basketball. :laugh: That should get things moving.

    I must go and get J'boy's breakfast eggs cooking. Such a lucky fellow, his mother makes him a hot breakfast.

    Nancy, I laughed when you said "My rant is over now" - all rants should be so kind and inspirational . . . :laugh: . DH still makes the kiddos breakfast when they're here, even though they rarely even eat it - can't tell if he's in competition with his ex or just trying to stay connected. It's hard when they get older and all are off on their own. If you're at your goal, I'm not surprised it's taken you that long to get there - as we're older our bodies resist more and simply have higher plateaus than before. Congratulations:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: and I'll be keeping everything crossed for you to keep it off!

    DeeDee, there's a board here about eating back your calories - they mention your body will "hoard" the calories as it's been used to being near starvation and will go into saving mode whenever it can. It's frequently the cause of plateaus too. Just keep doing the same thing for a while; you should see a change eventually. This is a long slow process. Even when you were gaining weight you undoubtedly had long periods where you weren't gaining or losing; same thing on the downside. At least that's been my experience.

    Just got some new work-out DVDs for after the first of the year - more kickboxing-style. I love, love, love kickboxing and am very excited about these. The only issue, well, two issues, is that a) I've heard a lot of horror stories about what happens when you stop doing resistance training and b) the workouts are a lot shorter than I'm used to. I suspect after I start I may do resistance on the shorter workout days (only 30 minutes!), so basically doubles, and then I'll keep up with my afternoon walks too. I'm happy with the nutrition plan that came with these - it's a super-simple flash-card approach (similar to weight watchers, I suppose) where I get so many "units" of starches, legumes, proteins, etc. and can pick and choose from an extensive list of options. There really isn't anything that isn't "allowed", but it does have minimal dairy (something I notice about BeachBody diet plans in general) and uses coconut oil instead of olive or butter. I'll probably keep the olive oil anyway. It's a 60-day program - very excited to start!
