Welcome back, Jenn! We'd love to have you back on board with the gang here!
Bluenote: Unfortunately, the only way to solve your fiber problem is to "let it all out." Have you tried having any tea? I don't know if it would help, but I would think it would have a calming effect on the stomach. I think water just expands the fiber that's already in your system. Just my personal theories.0 -
Greek yogurt first timers! I would suggest getting the version with honey or mixing in something sweet like fruit jam or (my favorite) maple syrup!
I eat mine plain on stuff but more like I would sour cream or cream cheese...
Yesterday I mixed in a TB of honey and used it for a dip with strawberries. I've also used dark chocolate syrup in it... YUM and coco...0 -
Hi Jenn, I have missed you so glad to see you back.
Okay ladies I did not do so bad eating that chocolate today. I still have enough calories for dinner. So I am going to do pretty well today.
I do not like yogurt very much. Every time I get it I wonder WHY????? I could use a good sour cream exchange though. I have a blue cheese salad dressing made with yogurt that is yum. Maybe greek yogurt is the way to go for me in place of sour cream on baked potatoes . I will have to try it.0 -
hi girls!!!
Thank you all so much for thinking of me and for the prayers. I only have a few minutes cause Im home with the baby but here is a shortened version:
Sunday at 1am I took my son to the ER due to high fever, labored breathing, and vomiting. Turns out that he had pneumonia. We were in the ER from 230am until 7am then were admitted to pediatrics. I spent the night Sunday night and Monday night and we were finally discharged today. Hes on his way to recovery, and we found out that the prescriptions he has been getting from the pediatricians were having no effect on him, thats why he is always sick...he wasnt really receiving the proper treatment. Its a horrible way to find out but we did. Now we know the type of medicine to give him. I was really really good with food and inspite of all the temptation to eat my stress and boredom I stuck to my program. I was actually under calories the entire time I was there but did not get all my water in
I am just sooo proud that I was good food wise and I am so happy to be home and able to check in with you all! I surely missed you!
as for the scale- everyone knows Im a scale *kitten* I weigh in like 30 times a day...ok more like 5 but I weigh in in the morning and usually when I get home. The increases dont bother me and it hold me accountable and helps me know what foods effect my body and how. I usually fluctuate between 2-3lbs throughout the day
as for my picture- That was taken prob 3 or 4 years ago...I put it up in honor of our engagement and as motivation to get back to what I USED to look like. I was prob around 180 in that picuture.0 -
Chris - so glad to hear you got the poor babies meds figured out! Sorry you all had to go through all of that but at least you know what happened now!
Jenn - I'm SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU BACK! You didn't fall off the wagon, you just took a side trip on your journey to good health
I had chicken fajitas for lunch :grumble: I am weak. I didn't eat the beans or the rice but that sour cream and guac was cleaned up!:ohwell: I walked with a co-worker BEFORE the Mexican restaurant so at least I put a dent in it! We walked about four miles in an hour - which is pretty darned fast for me  Probably faster than I jog!0 -
I bought 30 day shred, by jillian Micheals. Who else is doing the shred? I plan on starting tomorrow and take it for the whole 30 days and see if i can lose the 20 pounds, it says on the box. Hopefully i can managed to do level one..if it's like cardio max, biggest loser, then i can handle it...but cardio max i only did level one and two - level 3 was a too much for me...that's with the trainer kim, who was previously on biggest loser.
Is anyone intrested in doing the shred wiht me? if so, let me know.
have a great day!0 -
Hey girls. i've never been more exausted in my life. I got back from a convention in atlanta yesterday after being there since last wednesday..and I am beat! I'm in debt but over all had a really amazing time. I also danced for the first time in public, and boy did I get a workout doing it! I also walked all over the place and my legs are killing me...I notice that I dont get tired from walking easily anymore, and I can even run for prolonged periods now if I want! Woo! I did notice I got a stich in my side alot while walking though, does anyone know why that happens? Dehydration, poor eating?
I didnt eat alot at the convention, (no snacking at all) but the things that I did eat were normal foods. I chose healthy things for a few days and splurged some nights. On sunday I ate a philly cheese steak and fries for lunch and a burger and fries for dinner...and i felt sick! I think unhealthy food is finaly starting to make me feel sick after eating it, which is a huge step for me. That will help me continue to make good choices.
Anyway i weighed when I got home. I was up only 2 pounds or so from my last weigh in, so I'm assuming that's just water ....I'm so proud of myself! I was fully expecting to be back in the 240's but I didnt even touch them. I'm expecting I'm retaining water from all the salt/dehydration I experienced on the trip, which is fine. I'm back into the swing of things now and it feels great to be home, though I am still sleep deprived.
let me check in for today:
calories: Under by 100, need a snack
Water: Right on, probably over by the end of the day
Exercise: Some stairs...taking it easy, I hurt.
Proud: I'm starting to control my eating very effectively, even when I'm "not on the wagon" and too much beef and grease now officialy makes me sick! Yay!
I'm going to go home early and have a nap. Bye!0 -
checking in for tonight 3/30/10:
calories- under by 91
water- yes
sodium- 1567
excercise- none
proud- that I did not cave in to the hospital food and that I didnt eat from stress...trust me I WANTED to soo badly!
Thank you all yet again for being such great freinds and for thinking of me! It really means a lot!:flowerforyou:
PS- Today was the first weigh in for the BL at the gym...I was down 5.4lbs!!!! I was so so so happy! They list the top 10 biggest losers of the week, I hope I make top 10 this week!!!0 -

I am so sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers are with you0 -
Oh Meokk! I'm so sorry!
Meghan got here fine! OMG she's so beautiful (I haven't seen her since August) and she looks all of 14 to meShe didn't want to go out to any of the fun ethnic restaurants up in Cleveland (where I work) so we came back to Kent and went to Ray's - that great bar and grill - college/townie place. I ate half a turkey Reuben but then it's all down hill.
Calories - over by 200 and that's after eating all of my 950 exercise calories!
Water - plenty
Exercise - 30 minutes of walking and 45 minutes of biking at the gym this AM - an hour of FAST walking at lunch (at least four miles in under an hour).
Proud- uhm... I'm glad I walked at lunch! I didn't have time to eat AND walk but I did anyways0 -
meokk - I am so sorry for the loss of your grandfather. You are in my prayers.
jenn - SO glad to see you! I am excited that you are pumped and ready to go!
cris - Wow, I bet you were super stressed over your little one's ordeal. I am so thankful he is doing OK. Way to go on controlling your emotional eating! You rock! And a big WOOHOO to your BL weight loss!!!!
heather - thanks for the advice. I think I am going to go for some hot tea tonight - I still feel like a lead balloon! LOL
mari - glad you're home safely and even more glad that you only had a +2 of water weight for your trip! Good for you! I am not sure what gives those stitches in the side when you run, jog, or walk. Sometimes I notice them if I do not stretch well before walking. (?)
mstahl - I am so happy Meghan arrived safely! I love how happy your post is about her. I look forward to hearing all about what a wonderful young lady she is!
I stayed home from school today - very depressed about losing my voice. But the good news is I did NOT self-medicate with food! I made it a point to completely plan and stick with it today, and I did! If I can't control the outcome of my singing voice right now, by golly I AM going to control what goes in my mouth!
check in:
cals: under but I still plan on eating a pear and some oatmeal for a snack
water: 96 oz.
exercise: 40 + 10 bike, arms, ten mins of pilates in bed
proud: even though I am really down about my voice, I did NOT overeat! This is HUGE for me! :flowerforyou:0 -
Today has been a bit on the hard side. Pretty much gave up on trying to log or keep track of anything as we lost a dear friend today. One of our dogs, Little bear passed away today. He laid down to nap and never woke up.0
-
meook- I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family. Have a safe trip
Blue- sorry you lost your voice, people are so ignorant about stuff like that (mold). Get well soon and great job controlling your eating!
mstahl- Im so happy your granddaughter is there! Cant wait to hear the stories!
So I am under by 91 calories today and somehow the scale jumped up like 2lbs within the last two hours...ugh too much sodium in my dinner? who knows. I havent had a morning weigh in since Saturday so I really have no idea where I am. I only count my morning weigh ins...so tomorrow we shall see.
On bad news- I was staring at my ring (haha I will stop soon) and I noticed 2 really big flaws on it that werent there before. It looks like the stone got smashed into something...We got a protection plan that if anything happens to the stones they have to replace it so I am hoping they will take care of it. I am scared they will try to get out of replacing them though:sad:
its really got me bummed right now0 -
Cris-Glad to see you back and hear your lil man is doing well. Big congrats on the the big weigh in!! Hope they can get your ring fixed. Try not to let it get you down too much!
Meokk-So sorry to hear about your Grandfather! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayres
colorado-So sorry about your loss of your puppy. That's so very sad and heart breaking. My heart goes out to you.
Bluenote-Hope you get your voice back soon! Way to go with sticking to what you had planned to eat!!! That says a lot about your progress
Mari-So glad to see you back and that you made it home safely
Mstahl-Happy to hear Megan made it OK! Can't wait to hear all the stories!
Hope everyone had a great night. I need to hit the hay for so I will get up for my morning workout. Will check in for today tomorrow. I know I did okay on everything thought! Goodnight!0 -
meokk -- I'm so sorry to read about the passing of your grandfather. Safe travels.
Cogirl - I'm so sorry you lost your little fuzzy man today. You're in my thoughts.
03.30.10
Calories: 1546
Exercise: 30 minutes stationary bike -- went father than ever before in 30 minutes.(358 calories!)
Water: 80oz+
Proud: Pushed myself on my bike.
I keep re-straining/pulling my groin. :ohwell: Every single time it starts to feel better, I do something careless & aggravate it again. And now I've tweaked my right quad somehow! I'm such a danger to myself.
I am excited about weighing in the morning.Tonight, AFTER dinner, my scale said I weighed *less* than I weighed last Friday morning. I think I'm actually going to be able to record a significant loss this week! I found my calorie sweet spot again. I know the information is all over the place, but the fact that eating MORE really has been the solution to my plateaus still blows my mind.

I'm so sorry for your loss Meokk.
Awestfall- Yay 228 that is awesome!!
Cris-So sorry that your little one got so sick, I know how stressful/scary & exhausting that can be. Glad to hear you're still taking care of yourself though. Hope he starts to feel better soon! And I hope you make your BL top 10 5.4lbs is awesome!Jeska.. wow.. another 3.3 lbs.. you are smoking! GREAT job!
Lol I only wish it had been another 3, it was body fat that I had lost or rather turned into muscle massBut thank you!
Checking in..
Calories-Under
Water-none
Exercise-30min walking
Proud-Through praising this site I've gotten more people interested in joining, and I'm babysitting my "puppy cousin" until my aunt gets back on friday so I have even more of an excuse to get out walking.
I bought an exercise skipping rope today [made from rubber and not that rope type stuff] so I'll be using it even when I can't get out to do something else. We're suppose to have temperatures as high as +30 this weekend so I'm really looking forward to being OUTDOORS and active with my kids, or at least the very mobile one lol!0 -
ColoradoGirl - I'm sorry about your fur baby
I'm glad he was able to go in his sleep, napping at home. I understand how tough the loss of a little fur kid can be and I'll keep you in my thoughts today
I'm off the water pill and UP about 7 lbs. I know this is water and it will go away but I'm also bummed that it's going to make my little weight chart look like I had either zero loss this month or a gain of a couple pounds. On the up side my doctor is pleased I was able to get off the medication without having my feet and lower legs swell up like a troll. I've been having high blood pressure issues and one reason I was supposed to get off the water pill was so that we could better assess how I'm doing with my BP. So far no real changes although it looks like my upper number is coming down some?
Awestfal - I'm so happy you are seeing the numbers move!:flowerforyou:
LittleSpy - excellent job figuring out that you needed more fuel to keep up with your exercising and thus allowing your body to dump more fat!!! :smokin:
I'm off to the gym while Meghan sleeps in, today is Week Four, Day one of the 5K101 - I have four minute jogs today! Whoot!0 -
Good Morning gang
meokk: I am so sorry to hear about your loss, my thoughts and prayer are wiht you and your family. Have a safe trip.
colgirl: I am sorry to hear about your furry baby..be well...:(
Mstahi: hopefully those pounds will come off in no time...it's only water weight:laugh:
litspy: that's great to hear you are back in the weight loss mode:noway:
jesyka: congrates on the 3 pounds loss:flowerforyou:
Bluenote: way to go on staying on track...keep it up girl:flowerforyou:
mari: glad you are home safely and don't stress about the 2 pounds water weight
Cris: sorry to hear about your ring stone...Hopefully the jeweler will be able to fix it at no cost
Sorry if i missed someone...didn't mean too:)0 -
CHECK IN 3/30/10
CALORIES: ON TARGET ( 1274) AND THAT IS WITH SOME EXERCISE CALORIES..ONLY 74 CALORIES..IT IS HELPING ME TO EAT AT LEAST 100 OF MY EXERCISE CALORIES
EXERCISE: YUP, 30 MINUTES ON TEH ELLIPTICAL WHILE WATCHING BIGGEST LOSER + I DID ARMS AND LEGS...
WATER: 128 OZ. ( 16 CUPS)
PROUD: THAT I GOT UP FROM THE COUCH AND WORKED OUT WHILE BIGGEST LOSER WAS ON, SPENT ONE HOUR WORKING OUT.
I found out something weird..if i work out at night i see a loss on the scale apose to working out in the morning..has this ever happen to anyone?
btw, i will start 30 day shred today..is it suppose to be done everyday or 3 times a week? help is needed0 -
Thanks everyone for your thoughts! it is alwyas hard to loose a furbaby. But, it was his time. He was 15, going blind and only had 7 teeth left. You would not know it though. He love to play fetch (for hours if you would let him) and LOVED to snuggle. We will have many good memories of Little Bear. I felt so bad for my daughter, Little Bear was her dog. But, she seems like she is hanging in there today.
We still have 3 furbabies though and I am sure they will continue to keep us busy!
So, after my bing of eating yesterday I am up two pounds.. Ugh.. Today will get back on track though. My weight loss for the week is probably just going to maintain. We will see what Friday brings.
I will check back in later! Have a wonderful morning.0 -

206.8 this morning. That 3 POUNDS less than last Friday!!! 4 POUNDS less than last Wednesday!
Hi, my name is Julie, and I am living proof that eating MORE may be the answer to your plateaus if you've been creating very large calorie deficits. I wasn't really skeptical before, but I am officially a believer now. It's so hard to wrap your head around something that is so opposite from what you've been told your whole life. There is no wonder I have never been truly successful with weight loss/healthy lifestyle before. There is no wonder my mom has been a yo-yo dieter for as long as I can remember. I thought I was destined to be fat and miserable with a horrible self-image my entire life. All it took was a little education and curiosity and trust in people on MFP who come across as well educated been-there-done-that folks (Banks, Songbyrdsweet, Tamtastic come to mind).
So ladies, if what you're doing is working for you right now, keep doing it. But if you hit a wall, and your weight hasn't budged for weeks, give increasing your calories a try.
I was eating 1200 calories a day and not losing ANYTHING for 3 weeks. Then I increased them to 1400 and after a couple weeks, I dropped 7 pounds in 3 weeks. Then I hit another wall. Now I'm eating 1500-1800 calories most days (trying hard to eat 1350 base calories and 1/2 of my exercise calories). I've been eating this much for a few weeks now and now I've dropped 4 pounds in the last 7 days.
My net calories are no longer 200 or 500 each day. They're almost always over 1000. I felt awesome before, but I feel... amazing now. I have an almost annoying amount of energy. Anyway, I just wanted to testify.
Edit: I think I have finally caught up to my boyfriend. It seems he's gained a couple pounds over the last few weeks and last night when we weighed after dinner, I was at 209.8 in my clothes and he was at 211.8 in his clothes (though I think his clothes were heavier than mine). He had gotten down to 200-201 in the mornings... but I can tell in his face that he's gained some back.0 -
Meokk: Please accept my condolences for the loss of your grandfather. You and yours are in my thoughts. Travel safe and we'll be here when you get back.
COgirl: I'm so sorry to hear about Little Bear. It sounds like he was a wonderful friend and companion. At least he went the way all of us should be lucky enough to go someday; at home, comfortable and happy.
Cris: Thank goodness your little man is doing alright now and they have figured out what he needs. Great job on not binging during the stress of it all. You're an amazing mom! Hopefully you'll get your ring taken care of.
Mari: Good job on having a sensible weekend even though you were away from home. I'm sure your gain is sodium/water retention because I had a similar weekend and had the same problem. I've lost half of what I gained over the weekend already.
As far as the stitch in your side when you run, how long before you run are you eating? I notice I have a problem if it's been less than an hour before running OR if I drink too much water shortly before running.
Positively: I also have 30 Day Shred and have been mixing it in with other workouts to keep myself from getting bored. I personally think it's easier than Cardio Max, but that might be because it's only 20 minutes that fly by. I don't burn many calories from it anymore, though, because it's so short and my fitness has increased so much!
Checking in for yesterday:
Calories: 185 over (chocolate milk, again!)
Sodium: 1825 over
Water: 32 oz.
Exercise: 40 minutes kickboxing DVD and walking in my horse's pasture for 1.5 hours. I didn't count the walking calories because it wasn't a fast pace and had lots of standing mixed in.
Proud: My sister offered to buy Dairy Queen, but my boyfriend refused and got on the treadmill instead which motivated me to do my kickboxing DVD at the same time. I'm SO glad my boyfriend keeps me in line!0 -
Littlespy: It looks like we posted at the same time, but I'm with you on eating more to lose. I've never listened to MFP when it calculated my calorie goal because I GAINED weight at 1200 calories. I have to eat around 2000 calories a day to lose and it just seems so bizarre to me! But, it seems to be working, so I'm sticking with it.0

My grandfather died this morning so I'm heading to England to be with my family.
I'll try to log and watch my food.

littlespy-That is soooo awesome that it is working for you!! I actually read an article yesterday (I get a daily newsletter from Jillian Michaels) and it was talking about plateaus and how if you hit one she says to increasey our calorie intake as well. I was gonna post it. But that's fantastic! So excited for you!!!
Heather-Sounds like your BF is awesome at keeping you on track! It helps when they are more encouragement and helpful rather then work against the new lifestyle you have come to find.
Positively-I'm not sure if you are supposed to do it everyday or not. I did it 3-4 times a week and saw results rahter quickly. I always tried to rest a day in between to let my muscles get a break. It will definitely work you out!! It kicked my ever loving butt the first time. I felt it for a week. But I was really outta shape!!
On a happy note for me..I finished week 3 of c25k this morning. Going to start week 4 on Friday and I'm stoked!! I'm trying to get myself in the right mind set and not freak myself out over the 5 minute jogs!! EEKK!!! And another happy note, I stepped on the scale this morning at work...after breakfast and 40oz of water in my system and I weighed last then I did last week and TOM is expected anyday now...I saw 220.8...ahhhhh!!! Could this be me FINALLY getting out of the 220's!? I sure hope so!!! :bigsmile:0 -
