Thanks! Thanks for bringing it back up. A little humor can go a long way.0 -
Bump. This thread make me sad. I thank god that I am not a newbie and actually know what to do in order to have the body I want.
(It include squats and deadlifts)0 -
This thread needs a bit of this

Serapi and Sarauk2sf please have your personal disagreement in a private forum (i.e the messaging system they set up for MFP members) Thanks for your consideration!!
If someone is indicating that people should be doing something that I do not believe is correct, then I will response in the thread. And in Serapi's defense - she is the OP.0 -

exactly.
besides that this stuff isn't all or nothing. it's not like you can change your mind midway during a process if you don't like the results you are doing and try something else.
i never understand why threads have to descend into arguments over *the best way* to do xyz. there is no best way since everyone else determining their own best.
the best way for me to get the results i want are from squatting and deadlifting AND running. the best way for the OP seems to be from running.0 -

but the OP says that she's happy with her results. shouldnt her happiness determine the correctness. since it's her legs on her body rather than whether or not you agree with her methods?
am i missing something here? :laugh:0 -

That point is not in dispute/discussion.0 -
"god" didn't give me my big legs. Genetics did. I have BOTH muscle and fat on my legs, so I need to burn off the fat.....maybe just sticking to pilates and letting the fat burn through walking.......0
-
I love my thick, muscled thighs! Girls, stop being so hard on yourselves. :noway:0

Well, I read all the posts and comments. I have to say, I agree with the OP. I have big thighs and hips, which I absolutely LOVE. I have done weight training in the past, and I noticed that I too can get really buff really quickly. From what I read, it seems that she was not saying its wrong to dead lift or do squats, I think she was just saying that if you are going for a certain look, you do not NEED to do squats and dead lifts to attain that look. For example, if you want a longer, leaner look. I can personally say I've done lifts, bench press, etc. I've also lost weight walking and doing Pilates.
I noticed that I too, preferred how my thighs looked with walking and Pilates. They were slimmer and smaller than when I did weights. Both were good, but I preferred that look. Honestly, I've seen some of the pics of the women here, and for me, I do not want thighs that look that hard, or muscular. I want to be strong and fit, and I like my thighs. Just noticed how different activities can make them look different.
Nothing wrong with her stating that, and nothing wrong with those who love to lift!!!0 -
I have big thighs, too, but I'd rather have the strength from squats and lunges than skinny legs
Just personal preference I guess.
I'm with you there.0 -
Not to be overly picky about your timeline, but you gained 7 lbs between Jan 2010, when you returned to the gym, up to Jan 2011 (twelve months). Then you went on to edit and state you began cutting Jan 2011. So if you "grew muscle all over", it was in 2010, not 2011 since you edited that you began cutting during this time. Thus, from Jan 2011 to now, you have either been in a deficit or maintaining from the above statement.
Sorry my dates are off:
Off mat leave - Jan 2011
Joined gym - Jan 2011
Built muscle - Jan - Dec 2011
Diet - lost 13 lbs Jan - March 2012
Maintained - March - September 2012
Cut out legs - Sep 2012
Diet - Dec 2012 to now (lost 2 lbs)0 -
I'm with you there.

Please tell me you're like, 4ft tall? When did 21.5" thighs become thick? What are the categories *over* thick? Asking for a friend.
Thank you. Sometimes this site gives me complexes or makes me think my body shape has all sorts of flaws I just never noticed before. 21 inch thighs here.... I always thought I had nice, long, toned legs.0 -
Thanks. This is what I have been trying to get across.
I have plenty muscle and will never need to worry about bone density.0 -
If "God" gave you naturally large thighs, basically, you are predisposed to carrying fat on your legs.
Lose the fat, and you will surprise yourself with how small your legs are.
Find me a low body fat woman <20% with large defined legs who isn't a advanced weight lifter and I'll shut up.
The fact is most women (and men) who they they are naturally large are just fatter than they ever expected.0 -

I think the reason why you got so much heat for your post was because you basically said "drop weight lifting and do cardio"-which is what I read when I read your first post. You then later clarified exactly what you did( weight lifting, bulking/cutting) If you had maybe explained everything maybe a disclaimer stating you're not against weight lifting, or that you did it etc many would probably understand. But congratulations on your success!0 -
Yeah I am a personal trainer and I would never prescribe a routine absent of all leg training. That is horrible. A person must be well-balanced by working all muscle groups to some degree. Sounds like you are speaking of the marathon runner type of physique, but if you look at them, they may all have skinny legs (not lean, there is a difference) but it isn't due to a lack of just adipose tissue, it also it due to atrophy of legs, from your hamstring complex to your quads and all of that. You actually due burn more calories by training legs, as they do comprise the bulk of one's body mass, somewhere in the range of 60% of one's overall body mass.0
-
Yes, I lift heavy upper body and look great; not bulky at all.
My legs, another story. They grow and I don't like it.
This is so contradictory. So your upper body is somehow magically immune to this "bulking" but your thighs are not. Incredible.
I really take issue with anyone who says "listen up" in their title as if they are somehow an expert on the subject. I am glad that you are very happy with your "amazing" body, but some of us don't prefer that look.0 -

I have always had big thighs and butt, my daughter got my thighs. One thing that I have found by watching her slim her legs down is that they must be streached as you tone and she has acomplished beautiful lean legs that are tone through ballet. I still have yet to find the time to try it myself, but plan to do so soon!0

Or I hope she meant stretched because streached as a whole different meaning - happened to look it up...lmao!0 -

I remember it as if it were only yesterday... I was in Heaven waiting in the Thigh Gap line, which was as long as the line for the ladies room on nickel beer night and I really just wanted to get the being born part over already so I said, "Screw it, I'm moving over to Thicker Thighs and Big Booty... it was a ghost town over there and God was like, "Here you go. You'll thank me later." He was so right, that God! I call his name sometimes when I'm busy enjoying them.
This was funny ^^^^ well said babes.

I'm done. Said my piece.

I think it's doing a disservice to others to reccommend that they stop exercising a certain body part and try for muscle atrophy in order to achieve an impossible beauty standard.
I have shapely legs, I always will. The only time my legs were thin was when I had major orthopedic surgery on both legs when I was 12 years old and had a cast that went from my toes to my hips for months. For a couple weeks after the casts were removed, my legs were thin. Because of muscle atrophy. And I stupidly hoped they would remain that way.
I've come to accept that I will always be a little more shapely than the standard. It's just how I'm made and I'm okay with that. I suggest others realize the beauty in how they're shaped as well. I'd rather be shaped like Jessica Rabbit than Kate Moss.0 -
