    My gym doesn't have any squat rack either so I do front squats instead. I just do a 'hang clean' to get the bar into position. Takes a few weeks to get the wrists used to the clean grip though.
    I find front squats are harder to get your form wrong to so that helps when working out on your own.

    An alternative might be goblet squats with a dumbbell which are meant to help newbies get their *kitten* to the grass before going on to front or back squats.

    I got a squat rack off of kajiji for cheap ( a gym was going out of buisness), and then added it to the gym at work. Work is paying most of it back as part of the employee fitness program. Ends up being way cheaper than gym memberships and with the stronglifts program im not spending my life at the gym.:happy:
