A rack is a must for stronglifts !!!

Not a particularly helpful reply, to be honest. There is no way in the near future that I can get a squat rack. Are there any alternative programmes which don't require one?

I did stronglifts doing barbell hack squats like this: http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/BBHackSquat.html

The biggest problem was on the days with deadlifts and squats, because my grip would give out before my muscles would.

I'm sure having a squat rack would be awesome. For one, I wouldn't have to clean the bar to do overhead presses. But I'm very happy with my results without a rack, and don't have the money or room for one at this time anyway.

  • My gym doesn't have any squat rack either so I do front squats instead. I just do a 'hang clean' to get the bar into position. Takes a few weeks to get the wrists used to the clean grip though.
I find front squats are harder to get your form wrong to so that helps when working out on your own.

An alternative might be goblet squats with a dumbbell which are meant to help newbies get their *kitten* to the grass before going on to front or back squats.

These are pretty much the same exact weight. Cutting now, hopefully my next few months will show even bigger changes.

    bump! everyone looks great
  • Thanks!
  • I got a squat rack off of kajiji for cheap ( a gym was going out of buisness), and then added it to the gym at work. Work is paying most of it back as part of the employee fitness program. Ends up being way cheaper than gym memberships and with the stronglifts program im not spending my life at the gym.
