:flowerforyou: FabulousFifty You got me thinking when I read your signature quote so I added to it: :Buying smaller jeans feels better than a quick overindulgence! Walk away from the kitchen!"............ and walk away from the cookies, french fries, jerky, birthday cake, and all friends who offer you food:laugh:

"The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT."

Note to self----imprint these thoughts in brain before going away for a week to visit family and friends.

    Good morning all,

I just have to say ITS SUNNY outside!!!!! I amy actually get outside today. It seems so strange after all the darkness. the weatherman say it will be sunny all weekend. So I am happy. My official weekly weight loss was 2.4 pound this week. I will be out of the 160's next week.:drinker: I plan on working as hard as a can until I can't anymore. It seems to be paying off.

    Have a great day all.

:cry::cry:  Today is a very sad day for my family. We had to put to sleep our beloved Starr. Starr was, is and always will be our baby girl. I watched her and 8 siblings being born on my bedroom floor 14 years ago. I will miss her terribly. We came home from work today and she was laying on the ground outside her dog house and I couldn't get her to get up. I called for my husband and when he came out she sat up but couldn't stand. I called the Vet and they siad they close at six but were backed up and to bring her in, They said we could just leave her in the back of the truck and they would come out to examine her so as not to traumatize her by moving her more than necessary. Starr is an 86lb German Shephard and it was not easy to get her into the back of the truck without causing her pain. We arrived at the vet and was joined by our son and his wife, who are expecting their first child any day. After an hour wait the Vet came out and examined Starr and was very concerned when she felt a mass in Starr's stomach. She said that the mass was huge and that she could give her medicine that could shrink the mass but it was just a matter of time and it would be kinder not to make her suffer. The staff were really gentle with her and gave us time to say our good byes. They put her on a stretcher and carried her inside to put an IV in. Then they brought her into a room so we could be with her while they first gave her a sedative and then the second shot. Starr went very peaceful with people who loved her at her side. It was so hard but I didn't want her to be alone. I will miss her.:cry:

I am so sorry for you and your family. Starr was a lucky dog to have been with you for 14 years. That is a long time for shepherd. You must have taken very good care of her. I will say a pray for all of you and for Starr.

Kathy(pmjsmom) - Being in the 100's is a great accomplishment! :flowerforyou: Yippee! I'll be right behind you. I think I can, I think I can.

Rose - So sorry to hear about your pal's passing. It sure does hurt when our pets go.

Tasks await. Here's to a good day. I have my water in hand. :drinker:

    Hi again...

It's still freezing cold here! However, a bit of sun today which makes it less bleak.

Rose, I'm so sorry about your loss of a beloved pet. It's tough on the whole family. I'm thinking about you.

Having a bit of a struggle today with trying to drink enough water. Only two glasses so far. I'll do better.

Have a good Friday and stay positive:drinker:  ainslieglen

 Rose .... my heart goes out to you. I know how much you'll miss your dog. It's years since we too lost our German Shepherd and I still miss him. Odd things like no barking when the bells on the Christmas tree are tinkled!! No one to hug when you're feeling down. Our "Jet" was a large , black and tan, shaggy Shepherd and we came down in the morning to find him ..... maybe a heart attack we think.. You'll have all the memories and the knowledge that you gave her all the love possible and such a good home too. Remember the love that was given to you too.
    (((Hugs))) from me .

:flowerforyou: hi to everyone too .... Scales were good this morning ,despite some comfort food yesterday. DS and DIL are here tonight but I'll try to be sensible.

:ohwell: Hospital visit today was for two "Nanas" as my Welsh DIL's Nan is now in the bed opposite my mum!!! A right family affair for visiting today!!

 Anyway .... I hope you all can have a good weekend ....enjoy it if you can but make those wise choices!!

 LaurelFisher - So sorry for your loss - it's so difficult to say good-bye, even when you know it is the kindest thing to do. I had a hard time letting my boy go and waited probably longer than I should have. Hugs.

kadobosz - Don't give up! It sounds like you're doing a huge reno, which is a stressful thing to begin with - be kind to yourself and maybe focus one good thing a day - like a nice long walk, or drinking all your water, instead of worrying too much about the eating out which you can't do much about (just don't "go unconscious" as Mimi says! ) In no time at all you'll have a beautiful new kitchen to make delicious healthy meals in ... visualize the new kitchen with the new you in it!

pmjsmom - congrats! :flowerforyou: I'm so happy for you, but a little green too!! :blushing:  but definitely happy as that is a number I want to see disappear too!!

Rebel - congrats to you as well!! :flowerforyou: and '"Welcome Aboard BC Ferries, sailing time to ...." oh how I miss hearing that announcement! We use to live on the Island and heard it so many times and now any time we're on a ferry anywhere - even the Staten Island Ferry - we burst out with that! LOL!

TGIF Everyone  my goal this weekend is to make through to Monday under my calories. I feel as if I'm getting ready to do battle with some unseen force - maybe it's the BBQ sauce that my DH likes so much on everything that hits the grill - but I will try to prevail the best i can!

    Cheers,

It's impossible to gain 9 lb of fat and/or muscle in two days. But you can gain about 5-8 pounds of water weight in two days. Heck, when I was in the hospital on an IV for 24 hours, I gained 10!

It takes eating 3500 calories more then you burned to gain a pound. So, unless you ate 31500 more than you burned over the past couple of days, I'd say just drink a lot of water, watch your sodium intake, and don't weigh yourself for a few days.

    :drinker: Hi Everyone

It's geting late but it is the only time the computer has been free all evening - talk about a hot seat

Just popping in to wish everyone a happy weekend.

Here's hoping the scales are kind to me when I weigh in tomorrow. I still need to drink more water, (maybe cut down on the tea!) and up the exercise.

For some reason I snack more at the w/e so I'll have to be on my toes and try real hard to say "NO" to empty calories just for the sake of them.

Uncle is feeling much better, I'm going to do a bit of spring cleaning at his flat tomorrow, I think Dad is coming with me too to help move some things out, at least it will be clean and tidy when he gets home.

Well done to all who have lost weight :flowerforyou: Everyone else (me included) keep trying and we'll get there in the end. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

barbie - when do you find the time to do anything else????? lol You make me tired reading all you do in one day. You put me to shame, I usually only do one form of exercise/day.

You know, I took a zumba class once. I'm so uncoordinated that when the instructor said "go right" I went left! I really need a smaller class. I would like to add some different exercise (I'm getting bored ALREADY) and think this might be good. There's a workout place near here that I might go to a few of their "less full" classes. One thing that I didn't like before (but it was a different instructor) is that the music was so loud. Guess it's just old age. But I don't find loud music to be very motivating at all, as a matter of fact, it demotivates me.

We're going out to luch today with the Newcomers. It's a Japanese place. Hope they have some decent food on their menu, like steamed veges. Usually, when we go out to lunch with this group, I try to look at the menu beforehand and decide what is the best choice.

Jeannie - Texas is home to five of the 10 fattest cities in the U.S. Not such a great stat for a state that prides itself on geographical size. Even worse, it's predicted that in 35 years, 75 percent of Texans will be overweight or obese. Let that number run through you...r head, 75% of Texans will be overweight or obese in 35 years.

    Welcome kathyr4

Rose - your story about Starr makes me think of our Sadie. Every day it seems you can see that tumor growing. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to bother him. I know that nothing I or anyone else can say will help take the pain away. It will ALWAYS hurt, but know deep inside that you made it so that Starr wasn't in pain. Sometimes I wish we could do that for humans. But it would be so easy for that to be abused.

Well, we went to the lunch yesterday. It was held at this Chinese buffet. In a way I surprised myself because most of the foods were deep fried or had melted cheese on it. I had no desire at all for any of that. I did find out that you can order off the menu, so I ordered this steamed chicken and vegetable. Honestly, it was so big that I brought half of it home and will probably have another dinner. I admit, I did take a SMALL piece of what I thought was a brownie from this lady next to me, but surprisingly I didn't have any desire for any more. It was a very small piece, I guess they cut it up into 1" squares and I probably had about 1/12 of it.

Louise - it seems when I have something (mostly unknowingly) that is high in sodium, I retain water. Just glad that it's just water! Usually when I experience a weight gain, shortly thereafter I experience a loss. Also, could it be around that TOM?

Welcome kadobosz. Many times I find if I wake up even 15 minutes earlier, that is a good time to get some exercise in. Then it's done for the day. Nothing can get in the way, but I know that I've done something for myself

Congrats on the loss Kathy. If there ever was an inspiration, the thought of seeing that "2" again will certainly keep you on track!

Did 1 hr of a step DVD today. We're going up to see dd#1 (and ds) tomorrow so I'll do a yoga DVD. Probably won't be able to get to anything Sunday since we'll be driving most of the time. I need to take some snacks with me.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

 Kathy: Welcome to this thread! Pop in as much as you can and track, track, track! That will keep you aware and honest about your food. It really was an eye opener for me and now I’ve lost 46 lbs!

  Mimi: Sounds like you did the best you could given the situation! You’ll be fine….and your sense of humor will get you through! Life happens….thank God for plums in the cooler!!!

 Randy: Traveling can sure pose a challenge to eating healthy, :grumble: but be creative! It’s amazing what we can do when we look for alternatives!

 Fabulous: I think we ALL have to take it “One Day at a Time”! We can do anything for 24 hours…….but when we think in terms of the “rest of my life”….Yikes:laugh: …. that’s a little intimidating! Have a great day!

 Donna: As long as that scale isn’t going up….and in fact is coming DOWN (no matter how insignificant it may seem) you’re on the right tract! Congrats!:flowerforyou:

 Louise: If it were me….I would get very focused…drink tons of water…..AND STAY AWAY FROM THE SCALE FOR A WEEK! Weighing yourself is adding pressure and fear.:noway: For me, that can lead to emotional eating! Water retention can be a big part of it and with a few good days...... exercise…and WATER…. Your next visit to the scale will be better. The SCALE is not the problem…..Get you HEAD in order, start feeling positive about yourself, get tracking….and results will follow..(Unless, of course, you have a problem with a new medication…or something like that!)

 Kadobosz: Welcome……and don’t get discouraged. It’s just a temporary situation. Keep posting and stay connected. You’ll find that these situations come and go….but you always have choices! Make the best ones you can. You can do it!:drinker: :drinker:

 Laura: Way to go! Keep eating fish if that’s what works for you!

 Psjsmom (Kathy): Congratulations on breaking the 200 mark! You must be elated!:flowerforyou:

 Barbie: I have that quote (from you) on my microwave. Great thought!:flowerforyou:

 Rjadams: All these goals being met! How encouraging to everyone! Congratulations!!!
How can you burn over 6000 calories in a week! I get excited when I burn 400 a day.

    Faye: NOT “I think I can”….it’s “I KNOW I can”!!!!

  Ainsleiglen: It hard to think of you as being cold, because when ever I look at your picture I see this sunny beach scene!! Struggles are good…especially when you conquer them:flowerforyou: Stay strong and reap the benefits
Jackie: Glad the scales were good to you. Looks like you’re having reunions in the hospital. Hope they are all Okay.

 Caminogirl: You can make it through the weekend if you take it one day at a time and one bite at a time. Keep tracking and before you know it, it will be …… and only YOU can decide how you’ll be feeling about the weekend then!

    MacMadame; Ditto

 Viv: Glad your uncle’s feeling better (thanks to you finding him on time) and good luck on your weigh in!

 Michele: What is it with cheese on top of everything? times I see a nice grilled meal or some type of chicken or veggies on the menu and then it say it has cheese on top! :grumble: I don’t know how many meals I bypassed because of it!

I had a busy day. My daughter hurt her back so I took a day out of work to go over her house to help her with running errands and playing with the kids! I’m pooped….but I’m glad I could help!:flowerforyou:

    Stay well and focused!

    Michele

I am part of the "idle retired" I only do as much housework as needed to get by, I read at only bedtime or in the bathroom, and watch TV while riding the exercise bike.....a lot of my exercise is done in 10 or 20 minute segments..........I work at time management, trying to be efficient with my time and I don't sit still well  My pets are my children and I spend a lot of time walking dogs or walking while they play at the off leash park...somebody said, "if you're moving, you're losing" and I took that to heart.

tomorrow I'm going off for most of the day with a friend to a meeting three hours away so I'll be sitting most of the day and certainly far from the computer. My friend is picking me up at 6 AM so I'd better get to bed soon.

    Good Morning everyone,

It's a lovely sunny day in the North east of England but quite chilly. We are finally spending the weekend at home and I've been weighed on my own sacales for the first time in 3 weeks and I've lost 3lbs. I am really happy with that as 1lb per week is my aim and I've had a few wobbles recently :blushing: This forum definitely helps me to get back on track. I no longer want to give upif I have a bad day. I just get right back on the wagon and it's all thanks to you wonderful ladies :flowerforyou: Will catch up with everyone later.

    Bye for now

 Morning everyone from a cold grey York !

I am happy because I have lost another lb. Yey  I am so pleased because I had a few "hippo" moments this week. Now the hard work will come this weekend I will have to stay positive and keep away from junk food.

Denise well done on losing 3lb it's always nicer to weigh yourself on your own scales isn't it , I don't really believe other scales now  Losing 1lb a week is a good way to go, that's my aim too.

Another quick post from me, I'm having a mini tidy at home before going to Derricks I think he'll be home soon. Social Services have been asking him if he's getting enough help at home so not sure if they will send carers in to check on him too. I think you have to pay for that service though and I'm sure he won't be keen on that!

Might check in later if the computer is free

I just want to thank everyone for being so upbeat and supportive of each other. I started last week and I've been reading the posts every night. I don't get much exercise during the week, but worked hard last weekend and lost 5 pounds for my first week. I'm building a house and working on repairs for my brother and sister's houses also. It's not yoga, but it sure burns a lot of calories swinging a hammer and I save money by not having a gym membership.

Re: gained 9 pounds in two days - I'd check the scale, too. Was it off balance, something stuck under one of the feet, low battery, kids changed the settings? I used to have an electonic scale that could change by five pounds even if you got right back on. I hated it and finally threw it out.
On a more serious note - If you continue to have fluctuations like that, you might want to see your doctor to make sure its not a problem with your kidneys or circulation.

Good job Smelliot and wizzy! Yeah! It is so nice to see Mr. Scale smile up at you. Terrill, all of that hard work will pay off! rjadams is my workout hero! I could learn some time management skills from Barb. I can't wait until retirement. 6 more years for me.

Happy Mothers Day weekend all! Going to a luncheon this afternoon with the ladies in my family. My father's treat. What a sweetie. I am looking forward to spending time with my mom, sisters and my daughter. Being a mom and a daughter are two of my favorite roles in life.

I am doing the Skinny Saturday Challenge so I must double my exercise today. Wish me luck!

Hubby and I went out to dinner last night while the kids were at a High School dance. I think it was the only steak house in the country that did not have a single chicken or fish dish. I decided on a hamberger with no fries or chips. We both skipped dessert. Still if was fun to be out.

I am far from most of my family and lifelong friends. This week a lot of things hit home. My cousin's son is dying from a brain tumor (not cancer) slowly. Scott is only 30 years old and is in hospice just hanging on. A guy in my graduating class died in his sleep with no warning or preknown cause.

What strikes home the most is that we all need to appreciate each day and the good of that day. Sure things happen. People make us angry, hurt our feelings, etc. In the long run it matters that we are here today and what we do with each day.

May we all be happy today and be at peace with ourself and those around us.

    :drinker: Good morning Ladies,
 I want to thank everyone, Robin, Renny, Barbie, Vicki, birdie, Mary, Viv ( what a beautiful Shepherd), Mimi, Randy, Barb, Fabulous, Donna, Kathy, Michele ( thank you for the poem and my prayers for your Sadie), Jeannie, Kathy(Pjsmom), Ainslieglen, Jackie, and Caminogirl for their kind words and for sharing of stories. My condolences to those who have lost pets of their own and my prayers for those who have ailing and aging pets.
 It is comforting to hear from other animal lovers.
 Seems like not everyone thinks of their 4 legged friends as part of the family. Some think of them as just a watch dog or reproductive money maker. Some people think of them as property not to love but to posses for their own selfish reasons. These people can’t understand why someone would get so upset over the death “of a mere animal“. How unfortunate for those with no compassion or consideration. They will never know the love that our friends show in the most subtle and not so subtle way. The ones that really burn my ---- are the people:devil: who run the puppy mills.   They keep those precious animals in cages only big enough to lay down and have litter after litter of puppies until they die from malnourishment and neglect.
 Most are never petted or have any form of human contact except to give them food and water and to snatch their puppies away from them to be sold to some unsuspecting family. These people should be shoved in a cage and treated like they treat these poor animals. I know a lady who purchased a beautiful puppy from a pet store, 3 months later the puppy was dead from kidney failure. She paid $1,200 for the puppy and almost that much in Vet bills. My friend was told by the Vet that the puppy was probably a product of a puppy mill. We need stricter legislation against these horrible people. (I’m done venting now):embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

Hello everyone! I have'nt been here in weeks due to pure exhaustion from work.....finally picked up at the hotel but when I prayed for business that was not really what I had in mind! Wedding season has started and today I have two weddings and a memorial for 200 was added a few days ago for today also so I am going to be running again! Yesterday was a fashion show for 400.....sometimes I wonder is this fun or am I crazy for doing this? The best part is that I keep bringing my own food to work and staying away from all the food that is not good for me....after two months I can almost say its feeling "normal" to eat this way.

I'm brainstorming ideas of ways to share our "leftovers" with the community to help feed the hungry.....so much wasted food every day. I found out that we are protected by a law that allows us to donate cooked food to charities....I've always been told we could'nt because of health laws. I may be delivering it myself but thats OK just to see less waste.

I tried to read as many posts as possible before I go to work....what a great group of ladies out there.....I am so blessed to have found this site even though I can't get here as much as I'd like.

Jeannie, I am so sorry about your friends situations. I know this is a hard time for you and their familys. I also have a friend living with a Brain Tumor. Not sure if it is Cancer or not, but I think not. You have learned the most important lesson--to love and appreciate them while they are here, because none of us are gauranteed tomorrow.
:flowerforyou: Congratulations on making good choices at dinner last night when you had a limited menu. If there is one near you, I just recently discovered that Applebees has some good menu options.

    Suzanita--
How wonderful that you can share your business's leftovers with those in need. I am like you. I hate to see things go to waste, but I hate to see them go to waist (especially mine--LOL) either.

    Rose--
I share your opinion of puppy mills. My friend who has the dog breeding business (the one who gave me Pepper, and from whom I got my first Shih tzu, Dreyfus-in my ticker) gets so mad when she hears about cases of abuse involving poorly managed breeders she can hardly speak. We have had some bad ones of late in my area. The law in Oregon is such that a breeder can be compelled to surrender the dogs in order to avoid prosecution, but in extreme cases, I think they may be prosecuted anyway. Good Riddance!!

    Viv--(I think)
Got a kick out of the "mini tidy"--I think I probably need a whole batch of them around here. Would that be a "maxi tidy?":noway:

I am going to the Farmers' Market today to pick up a nice fresh bouquet of flowers for my mom for tomorrow. Unless she has changed her mind and decided on dinner instead, I am planning to make strawberry waffles and omelets for brunch tomorrow, at my parents' place. I hope to outrun the waffles and concentrate on the omelet for myself instead!! Bet you didn't know waffles had legs, did you?:noway:

I was posting, or should I say TRYING to post on another thread, and in the last sentence of my "masterpiece" his honor Sir Pepper, AKA "the pest with big feet" decided to relocate himself onto my lap from the chair and erased the whole darn thing!! The joys of "motherhood" never end--especially with these three!!!

Tonight I am taking my good friend Thomy and her son and another friend to an Italian restaurant for dinner. It is the big 5 oh for her today. Fortunately, the restaurant has a wonderful Caesar salad, and with the dressing on the side, I shouldn't be in too much trouble. I plan to take my "Salad Spritzer" along, and if they don't like it--tough!!

I have to get going or the day will be half gone. Happy Saturday, all.

    Good afternoon ladies,
I took a few moments to read the posts. I do not have time to respond to each today. Kenneth is home. I picked him up this morning. He is napping now. Long flight and not much sleep. Needs time to catch up. Glad to have him home though. Guess we will need to make the rounds to all the kids and grandkids later on. So good to hear from so many of you. Sounds like most are doing well.
Happy Mother's day to all of you moms out there. My heart goes out to all who no longer have your moms. To those that do cherish them. They are here one day and gone another. We dont realize sometimes how much they mean to us until they are gone. My mom has been gone for 9 years now.
I did not weigh again. I felt like I was bloated this morning so I will wait another week. i do better when I do not weigh so I will wait a while. My clothes are looser and I am doing really good so that works for me.
    Have a great day ladies.

 Denise, congratulations on the 3 lb loss! I’m glad you’re here for the long hall! Lets face it…if we aren’t focused on good choices……we’re probably going to be focused on that delicious Carrot Cake . (It sure taste good….but I never felt healthier after plunging in!

    :flowerforyou: Viv: Yey…Yeh…Yey!

 Terrill…BUILDING A HOUSE!!! Way to go!! You keep going in this direction….and you’ll be building yourself a new wardrobe!!!!

:flowerforyou: Fabulous, I agree…being a daughter and a mom are the feathers in my cap!

:blushing: :blushing: Jeannie; My hubby and I love going out to eat! I think, part of it, is that it’s quality time with him without other distractions!
 It's sad about Scott. And you’re right…it does make you put things into perspective. Sending prayers up for him and your whole family.

:ohwell: Rose; I have never owned a pet in my life, but I know people who do and watch their hearts break:brokenheart: when losing one. I am not a big pet person….but I understand how wonderful having them is very special to so many people. I especially am furious at negligence or abuse! :explode: No excuse!

 Nice to hear from you Lianne. Staying the same is much better than gaining so kudos!

 Suzanita: I sooo agree about the wasted food! I’m glad you’re doing something about it!

 LJCannon: I too like the choices at Applebees.

 Barb, enjoy going out to the Italian restaurant!

 Rebel, glad your hubby’s home.

  Have a wonderful Saturday and a Happy Mother’s Day to ALL as we have all “mothered” in one way or the other!

Thanks Macmadame - I WAS BACK DOWN 2 POUNDS THIS AM. I been working in the yard today so i HAVE HAD LOTS OF WATER.

Apologies for the caps - this laptop has a mind of it's own. LOL
