    True that it came off her card, but she didn't think it would seeing as she crossed it out and ignored that in the total she wrote down. Also, even if she actually left $6 cash, that's nowhere near adequate for a table of 20 guests. The receipt in the image only shows $34 because they split the checks trying to avoid the gratuity.

    Oh that detail about it being 20 people was left out of the video, lol. That changes things QUITE a bit then! :laugh:

    There's also a mini-campaign going around Facebook of people calling Applebee's corporate and letting them know that they will not be dining there again until the waitress is reinstated. Might as well throw my name into that hat, since I almost never eat there anyway.

    I'm a Christian but I have also been a waitress.
    I know that all too many Christians tip very poorly which gives all Christians a bad name.
    If I take a moment to pray before eating then it is obvious that I have some sort of faith so I don't want to perpetuate the stereotype by stiffing someone who is only making minimum wage and has to pay social security taxes on my tip even if I don't tip. That is why I make it a point to tip right around 20% (sometimes more) and that is before any discounts and I will add a little if I just had a free water because the waitress had to bring it to me the same as if I ordered a soda.

    If this is not a hoax then:
    1. The pastor should never have written "Pastor" on the receipt (it makes him look self righteous and makes God look bad).
    2. Could the jerk get away with telling the IRS the same thing... well, actually, he can (not helping the jerk's appearance).
    3. He is not supposed to brag about anything that he gives to God, his offering becomes worthless.
    4. This jerk never heard my preacher who said, "Do not put Christian bumper stickers on your car and then drive like a jerk".
    5. The restaurant probably legally had to fire her but I hope someone else gives her a much better job.
    6. That pastor should REPENT!!! :P

    Is the diner (pastor or not, christian or not) a cheap jerk? yes. no one is debating that.

    can you publicly expose your customers as cheap jerks and not expect repercussions? of course not.


    there was a story when peyton manning was visiting teams when he was a free agent last summer. he went to a prominent steakhouse in denver and left a very generous tip. waiter uploaded it to twitter, saying how nice peyton was. WAITER GOT FIRED. and he should. you don't put your customer's business in the streets.

    I'll post the receipt. a big tip was already included in the bill, but peyton dropped 2 bills on top. nice guy. but that's his private biz. and for lot of people being known as being very generous is worse than being known as a cheapskate. either way, FIRED

    Draco, I'm from Australia & for the most part the wages here are good to very good, so its not customary to tip here.

    I'm gonna be honest, the only way I would ever do this is if I received terrible service and didn't feel that the server deserved the 18%. I'm sorry that servers make minimum wage (There is no way that they earn less, that's why it's called "minimum wage". Hence the term "minimum" wage.) if that doesn't work for them and they can't provide the customer service required to earn a decent tip then they should go to school and/or get a different job. Just sayin.

    That being said, I think it was irrelevant for the customer to state that she only "gives God 10%". What does that have to do with the price of tea in China???

    There at least used to be a separate min. wage for servers who get tips.

    As a Christian, I also find this offensive. If I went to this pastor's church, I'd find another. First, the pastor is rude and doesn't know how to live as a reflection of Christ. Being a generous tipper is much more Christian. Second, the pastor is stupid. I don't want to have a stupid person in a role where they're teaching me. She gives 10% of her income. The waiter gets a percent of the bill, not the customer's income...

    I'm gonna be honest, the only way I would ever do this is if I received terrible service and didn't feel that the server deserved the 18%. I'm sorry that servers make minimum wage (There is no way that they earn less, that's why it's called "minimum wage". Hence the term "minimum" wage.) if that doesn't work for them and they can't provide the customer service required to earn a decent tip then they should go to school and/or get a different job. Just sayin.

    That being said, I think it was irrelevant for the customer to state that she only "gives God 10%". What does that have to do with the price of tea in China???
    I know in some places, people simply break the law by paying the waiters less than minimum, because "they get tips". Of course the waiters who cooperate with this are to blame too, but I guess some of them are just uninformed.

    That pastor is a jerk. Sorry, but God would not support stiffing people of the money they work for, in my opinion. I doubt God needs that 10% to feed his kids, but the waitress may need it for that very reason.

    This is sort of true and sort of not true. Some servers make less than minimum wage and the employer is forced to make up the difference if their tips don't add up to minimum wage for the hours worked. That is how it works in Illinois, so you can pay a server/waiter/waitress well under the minimum for other work.

    It was in poor taste on both ends. As a Christian, the pastor's actions disgust and repulse me (wish I could come up with a stronger word). BUT it was probably in poor taste to post it online to a PUBLIC site-- it's not even like it was the waitress' private Facebook page, it was a public site...NOT the best idea.

    But, wow...not tipping? Who cares what you drop in the offering basket?

    This. The waitress did a dumb thing, but I'd hope a pastor could own up to the crappy deed and turn the other cheek. Shame on the pastor for stiffing the waitress in God's name. Double shame on the pastor for seeking vengeance on the waitress. (The pastor's complaining got the waitress fired.) I hope she doesn't have kids to feed now that she's lost her livelihood.

    I was a server/bartender part-time or full-time for 17 years and I give this girl mad props. We all get stiffed. However, it's not the lack of a tip that's the issue, it's the rude comment and the fact that the customer is supposed to be a woman of God. I get stiffed all the time when I tell people I can't legally serve them any more alcohol and offer to buy them a free cab. I've even had people threaten to shoot me over it.

    I think public shaming is good. I think the corporation just feared the negative PR. There is no legal contract for privacy like there is in health care, education, or banking. I can understand why they fired her over the PR issue if she didn't black out the name. She should also adjust her Facebook privacy settings so her employer can't see what she's posting.

    I wouldn't do it but I think it's awesome.

    We don't get to see the other side of the story, perhaps the service had been bad or the food had been poor. When I eat out I tip based on the service I have received. It is by definition 'gratuity', i.e. money given in return for service and should not be an expected amount.

    I'm in the UK though so I know the custom of tipping here is very different to the US.
