S/O name tattoed

Ehhhh I am going against the majority... The hubby and I both have our personal wedding vows we said at our wedding, which include the others name along with the date, on our arms. Mine is on my left, his is on his right.
I also cherish the bond of marriage way beyond what most do. And don't look at him as a car. I didn't marry him to one day trade him in for a newer model. Unlike most, marriage is a forever type thing to me.
And I also cherish my tattoos. They all have meaning and represent a specific time or event in my life that has built up to the person I have become.
With my mind set on these things, if we were to get divorced, there is a 99.9% chance I would not get remarried and the vows would be just like my other tattoos, a time and event in my life that made me the person I am.
I do not regret and am 99.9% I will never regret getting my vows tattooed on my arm.
I also I am not going to let some petty "belief" of a curse dictate if my marriage is going to last... to me that is just plain silly.
To each their own..0 -
I have my husbands name on my back. He has my name on his knuckles and on his chest. We've been together for 15 years and are very happy. If for some reason we aren't always together I wouldn't regret the tattoo - he's the father of my babies I could never hate him.0
-
Nope. I don't believe in a curse, but I do believe people can change. Ink is permanent.0
-
no, but I do want to some day get a wedding ring tattoo. :flowerforyou:0
-
I don't have any tattoos so no, I wouldn't get my husbands name tattooed on me any where.0
-
I have a heart with a keyhole on my forearm and my husband has a key (skeleton key) on his forearm... He has the key to my heart. We also each have tattoos for our children. Neither of us would get the other's name. Out of the question!!0

Personally, I wouldn't want my hubby's entire name tattooed on me... but that's just a personal style choice. His initials, maybe. Done in a pretty cursive font so that it looked more like a symbol than initials.
My brother has his wife's name tattooed on him in at least 3 different VISIBLE places (he has a LOT of tattoos). His wife also has his name tattooed on her. I actually asked him after he got his first tat with her name if he thought it was a good idea, and he responded "Why? Because someday in the future we might get a divorce? That's stupid. I don't live my life planning around the thought that the woman I'm madly in love with may leave, or that I would leave her. I plan to live my life as if we'll be together forever. To think about the possibility of divorce in the future is more of a bad omen for our relationship than a tattoo could ever be. If I'm expecting a divorce, than I'll always be kind of guarded around her, and I don't want to live like that."
His answer was good enough for me.
I Love this!!! your brother is smart = I bet they are together forever0 -

This is the best thing I have read in this thread.0 -
Instead of tattooing our names, my husband and I got matching armbands with his having an "A" as the centerpiece and mine with an "S"... we joke that if things don't work out down the road then my "S" will no longer stand for SCOTT it will be for SUPER! His A will not be for Amber, but instead for A-hole hahaha works for us!0

Eh I have mine on me and I personally love it. I don't think about having to cover it or get it removed but if I ever did, it would just be closing a chapter in my life and starting a new one with a new tattoo
I have two for him actually, but one is his initials in white and then I have his lucky number tattooed on me in a star shape so juuuust incase anything happens and we aren't together I can cover them.0 -
Tattoos, but no names. I am 110% confident that we will always be together, but it's something my husband I both feel very strongly about it. We have no doubts about our marriage (9 great years and counting), but the name game just isn't for us. I don't however, necessarily feel like it's a "curse". Everyone expresses their love in their own way and that's their right. I, personally, almost feel like it's territorial. We do however, have matching cross tattoos.
Edit: I also have our wedding flower (a calla lily) tattooed on my foot.0 -
nope, i dont think i ever would either. Just my kids names0
-
Yep sure do! It's right above my left b00b0

A lot of tattoo artists will warn against getting an S/O's name tattoed. It is considered bad luck (almost as bad as getting a single swallow tattoed on you). For me, I would consider getting an image symbolizing the relationship before I would get a name.0

heehee my good friend in college had her ex-bf's name tattooed behind her ear, and her ex-bf had her name tattooed on his hand...from her complaining about it nonstop when she was drunk i think i will never get someone's name tattooed on me.0
-
No way. Not now, not ever. That's just asking for trouble. I wouldn't mind having a tattoo that would compliment one of his, but he doesn't want any tattoos.0
-
I don't need to write my husbands name on me, I'm perfectly capable of remembering it0
-
Wedding/marriage/SO tats a no-no for me ever.
You only get names of:
1. Pets
2. Kids
3. Blood relatives
4. Dead people
My parents split at 20 years. Some people divorce after like 40+ years.
My best friend (currently 20, got it at 19) has a bride and groom tattoo on her whole side that says "till death do us part". She got married at 19. Maybe they'll last, but it's not classy looking.0 -
A girl I used to work with had her baby's daddy's nickname tattoo'd on her neck. "Nutt"
She was pretty classy.
My artist calls neck tats"everlasting job stoppers"0 -

EXACTLY!!!0 -
The only names that I would get tattooed are my kids'.0
-
Yep! My husband and I have each other's nicknames on our fingers. We don't wear wedding bands... he can't for his job, already has had his finger almost torn off once. I didn't realize it was his right hand and not the left when his friend sent me a picture at 2 am one morning so I tease him telling him there are less drastic measure he could've taken to get it removed.0
-
I've got my husband's zodiac symbol, along with mine and our 2 children, on my foot.
The way I see it, regardless of our marital status, he's a part of my family, I'm connected to him for life.0 -
My rule of thumb is to only tattoo names of people that are guaranteed to be forever - Like my kids. Given MY marriage track record, I would have been crazy to tattoo any of their names on my body, anywhere.
I do, tho, have my puppy's name tattooed under her paw print inside my left wrist. It was the worst (and most unexpected) loss of any pet I have ever had.0 -
99% of people I know that do that break up within a year.
edited cause i cant spell within lol0 -
I wouldn't do it, I am not a piece of property. That is my opinion of course, any one that does have one of their SO doesn't bother me, nor do I feel it curses or causes a problem with their relationship. I just would never do it.0
-
Not a name, but I have "Amour Vincit Omnia" on my back (small) and on the bottom of that is our anniversary date.0
-
I never have and I never will. Its a taboo thing to do in the tattoo community, kind of a curse of sorts.
Our relationship is stronger now and we're happier now than the day we married. Never thought I could love him more than I did the day we married but yup... love him him even more now. I have 3 flowers...one for each of our children and his name runs through it.0 -
It is a fantastic idea to get a S/O's name tattooed on you! Said no person with reasoning skills ever0
