The decline of MFP

ive been here a long time......and this is old news. yawn. live and let live.0

Better than explaining to you, I invite you to run a community as big as this with limited manpower. I have ran a much smaller community and I know the headaches that go with it.
And if you need more enlightenment heres something for you

Great job utterly failing to substantiate your slam. See you 'round.0 -
Exactly! I seen a profile pic of a woman yesterday in a bikini wanting to lose 20 pounds. She didn't look like she needed to lose any weight. I also seen a guy yesterday that his picture looked like it came straight out of a fitness magazine. And I have noticed people's nasty comments about healthy recipes.
OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH. I missed the rule where it said you had to have 70+ pounds to lose in ordr to be able to post on this site.
My bad.0 -
Is THIS divisive thread going to be permitted where so many others get shut down for no reason?
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEA!" gets locked but this unnecessary fight is actually encouraged to continue?
The moderator pokes her head in to endorse the message of "successful members versus those just starting out"?
Just shut the forums down, you people don't know the first thing about how to run a community.
Edited to add:
By the way, here's what I spent my whole day doing:
https://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/897611-juicing-cleanse-success-stories
This place is a joke.
*stillbitter*
A happy birthday thread gets shut down within an hour, yet this dribble is allowed to continue...

+ to my ignore list....adding her to the twenty others I found on this thread. It just won't die, will it?0

The old-vs-new happens on every forum I've ever been a member of. Older members reminisce about how it used to be better, newer members try (often with limited success) to integrate. Some people gain an untouchable status- regardless of whether their behavior is appropriate or not- while others burn bridges early on with no hope for redemption.
Pretty much just summed this all up!
And use the damn search function!!!!
Haha! Yes, I'd have to second and third this. I am new to MFP, but I've been around the internet once or twice. I'm a moderator on other forums and we get the same complaints, even though nothing has really changed. Plus grumpy cries from long-term users to use the search function (this actually made me LOL when I read it here!)0 -

guess what!?0 -
Not the intention of the post. But at least it was my post not a trolling expedition.
Anyhoos if anyone would like support without games, feel free to add me.0 -
This place is not mean. The world is mean. This stuff is inconsequential. Get over it.0

Just checking if I was on your ignore list haha0 -
Well I'm pretty damn grateful to all those "mean" people who bust their @sses and owe me NOTHING
But what I most agree with is the comment I quoted above - nobody on this website owes me a thing. Not kindness, not support, not kudos. I'm here for my own reasons, and I realize that others are, too. And, if we're not on the same path, that's OK. I can't (and don't want to) imagine a world where everyone shares my point of view.0 -

You shouldn't do that. People might think you are mean0 -

That's what I thought. No, you are not a whiner, you don't start threads to cause more drama, you do the work and you do the research, and you understand that no one is out to get you. That's my definition of someone I want to know.0 -
Haters will be haters.......I have decided to help those that want it...and ignore those who are "pest". Many people come here to acheive specific goals and must focus on that.....They "win" if you let them get to you! If you do not like a post....report it. Let the moderators do their job. This is what made craigslist so succdessful....same concept. You will always have "haters"...I choose to ignore them and focus on the good that comes for this site. I saw some guy who lost over 100lbs in less than 12 months....This is what drives me........That is freak'n incredible.....0
-
I hardly use the forum. This and other threads makes me think I am better off without them. For me MFP is just a very good tool to track calories and my exercise calories.
Too many sanctimonious egotistical overbearing people for my liking.0 -
Just because someone reaches their goal weight and can wear a bikini with confidence does not mean that they are unattractive, cold-hearted snobs with a superiority complex.
Just because someone is still fat and is still shy about showing the way they look in less clothing, does not mean they are nice, selfless, caring, supportive and better than anyone else, either.
Some people reach goal weight and look absolutely terrible naked.
Some people reach their goal body but never their weight.
Some people are here to continually improve themselves.
Some people are here to ask a million questions and never read the answers.
Some people are here to have their excuses validated.
Some people are here to have their excuses annihilated.
Some people are here to complain about the necessity of imposing universal standards on "nice", "supportive" "attractive", "curvy" and "funny".
Some people are here just to represent the 1% that feels differently.
Some people are here just to track their food and exercise out of curiosity.
Some people are here to train for an event and have NEVER been overweight.
Some people are here to cause trouble.
Some people are here to waste time procrastinating instead of working out.
Some people are here because they like to read.
Some people are here because they like to write.
Some people are here because they like to blog.
Some people are here because they like to answer questions.
Some people are here because they like to comment/support.
Some people are here because they like to start mischief.
Some people are here because they like to be offended and get all righteously furious on behalf of ______.
What you really truly should be asking yourself is this:
"Am I doing everything possible right now to get myself closer to MY goals, and will the behavior of those people Im talking about - actually stop me from reaching those goals, and if it will - why am I so easily influenced by this and why am I letting the behavior of strangers on the internet affect my workouts and nutrition?"
Good luck, OP. :drinker:

Somehow I doubt anyone would want to see it! I just don't have the legs for it.0 -
I think the threads like the OP referenced, where people post patently ridiculous health/diet problems to see who will take them seriously and to let their friends play around, multiplied when innuendo filled, smutty threads started to be modded out of existence. Back then the silliness could be easily spotted. Now posters have to be more more subtle, more posters won't get it, and more of them will get frustrated when they realise their own gullibility. (Plus there are the occasional, late night, real trolls, but they are few and far between.)
The only times I have been ranted at were: when I posted a thread with a recipe involving a Cadbury's Creme Egg and when I encouraged a girl to eat more and was told I must be fat to eat so much. I wasn't upset by the former, and didn't even bother replying. The latter was more upsetting, as I'm not fat and it took a while to accept I need to eat so much, so I just deleted the critic. Frankly, I don't have the time or energy to fuss about such things. I'd much rather find an amusing thread or two to follow.0 -

Well, shucks. I will add you to the small list of people on here who don't think I'm a meanie.0 -

Yup. Pretty much. Post a problem only to use it to mock the responses.0 -
There is an easy way to solve this: stay off of the message boards. I barely ever post here, I'm doing just fine. There are other, much better communities for those trying to improve their lives and live healthier0

Well, who does this reflect badly on? The one person who started the thread, or the many many people who gave sincere advice?
Something about apples, barrels and not letting one spoil the rest comes to mind...0 -
The OP is divisive and unhelpful in my opinion. It simply exacerbates a "them and us" mentality.
Personally if I want something to change, both online and in real life I ask for it politely in positive terms if at all possible. So for example "I understand that a shared joke helps to relieve the monotony of dieting and the work day but please could we remember that some people may have less knowledge and therefore the joke may be taken seriously and set them back in their efforts. Perhaps we can all help MFP members to excel by bearing this is mind in the future."
I have rarely seen a rant achieve any thing of note other than a locked topic.0 -
