I get mistaken for African-American all the time, but I am just an American

Not trying to offend...in all honesty I like this thread, such beautiful diversity!

I'm French, Irish and German predominately.

I have dark curly hair and get "are you half African American"? I also get asked if I'm Middle Eastern or Hispanic. I was even asked once if I was an Asian mix. Don't see that one at all.

    Thai and Mexican.
  • i am Italian and German with a literal drop of Native American (my great grandfather was full blood), but I have red hair and green eyes and skin so white that snow has to compete with me when reflecting light. Because of this I usually get Irish and English. But, when I hang out with my two purebred, born and raised Russian friends (they weren't raised together lol) they always tell me that I look more Russian than they do. Also, I always get asked if I am Russian because all they do is speak Russian and talk about Russia and people just assume that I am form Russia. They are usually very surprised that I am not.

Im Salvadorean and Mexican and people either think I am white or mixed with black and the only reason they think I am mixed with black is because they say i have "mixed people hair" but really my hair's just really curly :D

I guess the most common one I get is that I'm Persian. To be honest, I'm not even quite sure how Persians are suppose to look. I should probably Google that. I get the whole middle eastern thing a lot though. I'm an American with Mexican/French/Spanish bloodline.

I'm Korean, but I've had people think I was Native (thanks to Disney's Pocahontas), Chinese (had a lot of little kids ask me if I was Mulan when the movie came out), Japanese, Hmong, and Filipina. I have had so many Hmong people come up to me speaking in their language that I have started responding to them in Spanish (hubby is Mexican). Love seeing the confusion on their faces when I do that!

BTW - I have a love-hate relationship with Disney!

  • I am filipina ( with some Chinese mix) living in Singapore with a Singaporean Chinese hubby. Here in Singapore, i would seldom be told as Filipina. I would be mistaken for Singaporean Malay, Singaporean Chinese especially when i'm with my hubby and also Eurasian.

Someone once thought I was Ethopian but I told them I was clearly Egytian but then said I looked like I was from the Congo. Then I said no I'm from Baltimore and I was never in the The Wire and that disappointed me. So I decided from that day I'd skip all of my family reunions
