So believe me when I say that I would eat plain chicken and salad and hard boiled eggs for as long as it takes to not be fat cause that is where the real excitement is ...... I'll worry about how bland my diet it when I get to maintenance which from the looks of it, you are already there.0 -

What about the ones that survive on protein shakes and vitamins? 800 calories a day should be showing a bit of a weight loss, but it's miserable.

As far as Macros go, I'm not 100% certain what they are other than a division of protein, carbs and fats intake based on your goals (i.e. 40%/30%/30%). Here is a link for more information:

There is a difference of opinion on this. Some feel that only calories count, whilst others argue that distribution of nutrients is what is important.
However, evidence would suggest that the health of a person is affected if too many calories are coming from bad fats or refined carbs. This is the premise behind Gary Taubes' book, Good Calories, Bad Calories.
The reality is - you must find what works for you - and to do this you have to start somewhere! If it doesn't work - try something else.
Tom Venuto's ebook Burn The Fat has a considerable section about macro nutrient ratios and calories. His opinion is that extremes (such as very low carb, and very low fat, are only appropriate for a small section of the population).

The bottom line is to make sure your nutrient ratios are promoting the desired weight loss and having a positive effect on your overall health.
Furthermore, there are a variety of 'lifestyles' that recommend what that distribution should be (Moderate, Moderate II, Zone, Low Carb, Very Low Carb).

Cooking and 'healthy eating' is a state of mind. If you don't want to put effort into what you consume, you reap what you sow. However, to be fair, my husband does 90% of the cooking in the house. There are numerous sites that offer 'the bestest low-XXX (fill in the blank) recipe EVER'. However, frankly, I don't have the gourmet kitchen to house the expensive organics, gadgets, or personal chef (don't count hubby, please) to live the 'ultimate lifestyle'. Neither do I live in a place large enough to have hippie-dippie-yuppie grocery stores. I do what I can with what I have and have learned to be contented with being informed and making the best choices I have available to me. Of course, just take a look at my goals and you'll see that I've got a LONG way to go... no preaching to the choir here; merely attempting to offer resources/studies/etc. to assist in the education of those requesting the information. :flowerforyou:
Oh, and I do eat sweets; I've found great substitutions or am learning to indulge my inner Cookie-Monster and NOT eat an entire box of Oreos. I love pizza; just working on not eating an entire pie (which I could easily do - any crust, just load it with cheese and meat, but mostly gooey cheese).
Panko is great if you want to substitute 'fried' with 'baked' chicken. It's crispy and give the consistency of fried with less of the 'bad' (but don't you WANT to be bad... at least SOMETIMES?)

It's all about preparation, Baby, and what you want out of your consumption to make you the happiest, healthiest and most content. Anything else is hype. Listen to your body; it will tell you what it needs and what it doesn't.

the other point is he didn't try to maintain, he made himself finish meals rather than stopping when he was hungry.

Ain't nothing boring about my homemade barbecue chicken with smashed rosemary-roasted baby red potatoes and the best damn green beans you've ever eaten (blanched, fried in evoo with salt and almond slices and scallions).
Or Mexican fried rice with grilled fish tacos & black bean/corn salsa or mango salsa!
Or baked black beans and rice with cilantro & tomatoes (don't hate on my rice & beans now, lol).
Or giant-*kitten* salads that you can put a million different things on. My favorite toppings: egg, grilled chicken, walnuts/almonds, avocado, tomato, carrot, cucumber, strawberries, dried apricots, tuna or chicken salad (it makes it a salad-ception and I get an uncanny amount of pleasure from eating salad on my salad). My favorite dressings: raspberry vinaigrette, olive oil & salt with some fresh lemon juice, regular balsamic vinaigrette, jalapeno ranch, toasted sesame. Bam, like 100 salad ideas right there.
Penne pasta sauteed with basil and spinach and feta and tomatoes with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Pita pockets stuffed with hummus, cucumber, lettuce, feta, falafel.
Oven-roasted salmon with wild rice pilaf and broccoli.
Steak. Salad. Roasted carrots or sweet potato.
Anyway, I think you might be doing this "healthy eating" thing wrong. Nothing boring about my dinners, lol!
Lunches and breakfasts were boring before, so the only thing that changed there is that I eat hot cereal or eggs instead of cold cereal for breakfast, and my sandwiches or leftovers are better thought-out. Also there is nothing wrong with having fried chicken and mashed potatoes every week. Probably not every night, though.0 -
I actually felt a little ill looking at a picture of a pop tart smashed between ice cream/gelatto/whatever. All I could think was how much time I'd spend on the toilet suffering after eating that. The curse of IBS. Also, fried chicken is awful. I like it, but..... no, it's not worth it. And putting the IBS aside, I just don't understand how fried chicken or pop-tarts could be more appetizing than grilled salmon or steak with spinach and berries, some avocado, and maybe part of a dark chocolate bar later. Or possibly some Chobani lite raspberry yogurt with dark chocolate bits in it. But, now, a tub of fried chicken and pop tarts are definitely quicker and more convenient, I won't fight that point at all.0

Plain IS boring, but healthy isn't. The list above sounds gorgeous to me, I'd only add in some steak and veggie fajitas, spice crusted salmon, and stuffed tilapia. The occasional boudin here and there (that's a Louisiana thing, chere, don't worry bout it). Sugar and I still have more than a nodding acquaintance, too, so throw a bit of that in, usually in the form of dark chocolate or ice cream/gelato. The last time I had fried chicken was at Mardi Gras two years ago. I don't miss it a bit, but if I did, I'd have some and move on.0 -
