I am sooooooooooo exhausted from today's work-out!! THIS IS WHY I NEVER, EVER, EVER SKIP!! Because, "getting back into it" is just HORRIFIC. Exhausting. Mentally. Physically, I actually feel good, but KNOW I'm going to be S-O-R-E tomorrow. I could sleep ALL afternoon!0

Welcome Jay and I agree with Beeps, youre off to a great start. Now that summer is here there's no excuse for not getting out and exercising.
Beeps - Amen to not missing a workout. I haven't run in 2 weeks and wonder how far I could actually run now. I do make it up by riding several miles a week in addition to my regular daily workouts Monday through Friday over lunch doing cardio and weights. My weekend workouts include walking and riding my bike. Last week I rode 80 miles compared to 200 the week prior, and a person can tell when he or she slacks off. I plan on hitting it hard this week.
I too had a rough weekend attending a reunion and a small town celebration in which the ice cream, apple pie, and beer were flowing heavily with this upcoming week being just as bad with attending a family function in Colorado Springs for 3 days. I think I'll pack my walking clothes and tennis shoes for some nice long morning walks soaking in that mountain fresh air.0 -

Beeps - amazing how much we can feel "missing" the workouts. Yeah, you will probably be feeling it today, but your body is letting you know you worked it good!
I did a "long run" on Sunday....9 miles. :laugh: To think that was a regular run for me not that long ago, and now it is my long run. Oh, how times have changed! I really need to get back into it on the days that I do run. Running 4 miles is not going to cut it. The weight training is going well. I lifted yesterday and my butt is letting me know I worked it. :laugh: However, the cardio portion of my workouts needs to be stepped up for me to drop these pounds.
I stepped ont he scale yesterday and almost fainted! I just keep piling on the weight. :sad: I am starting to get "thick in the middle" which is totally foreign to me...I was always small waisted and carried my wieght in my lower half...now it's all over. I've reduced my daily calorie goal....why do I listen to those that tell me I need to eat more to lose weight?! I bucked it for a long time, but thought it would help break through the plateau. I broke through that plateau alright - but 10lbs the WRONG WAY! So, back down to 1200 cals/day and no eating back my exercise calories, unless I burn 1000+ cals from a workout, then I will allow myself a portion of them. I have a wedding for goodness sakes. I am mother of the groom, I want to look fit and healthy, not fat n frumpy! :noway:
No workout for me today, as I am having company for dinner. Trust me, it is going to be a healthy one, with strict portion control for me and NO WINE! Hopefully we can take a walk on the beach afterward. It will be better than nothing.0 -
41 & Counting
Started a year ago at 370+ pounds (would not get on a scale when I first started) and I am now down to 245 with a goal in the 220 range. I do very little exercise until recently when I was cleared to start my engine. I have a bad hip and neck issues so I will be taking it slowly but I intend to turn my flab into muscle no matter how long it takes.

The good news; I'm stiff, but not MAJOR DOMs!
The better news: I'm going to get another weight-training work-out done at lunch. I'll choose pyramids over circuits, so I can mix-up the weights and the reps.
Eeeeeeekkkkkk, sdereski - no bueno stepping on scale and getting a BAD number. boooo. You know I'm already favouring "just do more weights, and drop all that cardio", but I know how much you LOVE YOUR CARDIO. Cardio won't change your shape, though. It won't thin your middle. So, do it for "pleasure", but you gotta lift weights if you want "shape change". (And, of course, you need to keep calories in a deficit if you want to lose body fat.) You already know all this!

It was raining when I got up today so did some aerobics instead of my usual walk. Have been on the go all day so far. Had to travel to go check out a program in another county to see what they do there and exchange ideas. It was nice to see, but I am feeling like I should be done for the day and I still have three hours left!!! My daughter and my grandson are coming over for dinner tonight- Yeah! He's seven months old today!! Can't believe how the time flies.

Hi All! This seems like a fun group! I'm Linda. Friends call me LB. I am 45. I have 4 kids, 5 if you count my hubby of 23 years! I have yo yo'd my whole life!
I found MFP and success with 1200 cals and lots of cardio! BUT quickly gained it all back plus. I didn't enjoy an hour on the elliptical or starving!
After my dad died, I came back to MFP with a new game plan. I don't focus on the scale. I focus on healthy choices and inches. I lift weights and try to eat 1500 cals plus exercise cals.
It was working but I have stalled. Couldn't have anything to do with the weekend boating food and adult beverages! I am trying to recommit and remotivate!
After a week at Kids church camp and no lifting, I worked with PT last night. I was dreading it! I ended lifting my personal best in dead lifts - 155 lbs! NSV baby! It felt great to be back after a week off! I think my body needed the rest!
Glad to meet others my age who can understand these struggles. I look at my neices and think, "It would be so much easier on you if you start now!"0 -

Turns out I did not have time to get away for a lunch-time work-out. Boo. And yay....maybe I'll suggest to my hubby that he and I go for a walk, tonight, instead of "eating out". That could be fun!0 -
Happy Wednesday Everyone! I'm excited to report that I met two major milestones today....1) I weighed in at less than 170 lbs for the first time since....crap...the '90's? and 2) I got into that lone pair of jeans that have been at the bottom of the stack because they were an inch smaller than all the others!
I want to thank the people in this group....especially Beeps. All of your talk about weights, lifting, how only that will change your shape, led me to the Y to start lifting weights rather than 6 days of cardio. I think it's paying off!

Did not have our guests for dinner last evening, but did not get a workout in either. I was supposed to have company for dinner, but they had to cancel at the last minute. I ended up cleaning both our vehicles.

You will get used to the elliptical in no time. I was up to an hour a day. My PT told me to start doing HIIT on it for 20 minutes. I start with a 3 minute warm up and end with 2 minute cool down so 25 total. Sometimes, the cool down feels so good I just keep walking! LOL He started me out running as fast as I could on it for 20 seconds then walking for 40 seconds, back to running for 20 seconds and then walk for 40 seconds. DO this for 20 minutes, VERY Effective workout. I am now doing 30 second run, 30 second walk and was able to up the resistance. Not boring and a quick workout so Win-Win!
I only do cardio 2x a week, if that. I'm with BEEPS on the lifting! LOVE IT! And feel so empowered when I beat my last workout! So an hour on the elliptical, though I love my ellipticaddy, was killing me!

Nothing but good news in here - i'll add to it! Turns out, I am 5'9"!! I am at the dr's ofc right now for pre-surgical blood work, etc. They weighed and measured me, again, and my Feb height was just plain wrong! (it's the outlier 5'8" measurement!)
That extra inch means 2 things:
1. I get 50 more calories per day (yay!); and
2. I've accidentally arrived at Venus!!!!
I'll forever be known as "the accidental Venus" - there's a movie in there somewhere!0 -
Wow! I must be the only surviving "relic" on MFP. All you kids in your 40's better behave and eat your veggies! lol
NO YOU AREN'T THE ONLY ONE, I THOUGHT I WAS. There really is no place for me but keeping to myself, cause I'm not able to lift weights like Arnold. That's the way to go, but I'm only able to do 3 pound dumb bells and extremely light at gym. Somebody on here told someone never to pick up a pair of dumb bells that small size again, and I said "oops" no place for me. You kids sound awesome!0 -
Feeling a little intimidated here. I want to join but it seems like everyone here goes to the gym and lifts weights. I just started trying to get in shape at the beginning of July. I can only do easy workouts so far. Don't tease me, but I like doing Richard Simmons videos. Are you guys out of my league?0

I assumed laughter at the limited time I am able to do it. I thought I could just hop on, start at the lowest level and do half an hour or so (i can walk for hours!). Well when I hit 5 minutes my legs felt like rubber bands and I had a new found respect for my elliptical machine. No wonder I got it so cheap on Craigslist, its brutal!0 -

mrszee1 - no one is out of anyone's league here! I started by just using MFP to watch my calories in/out. Changing those eating habits allowed me to drop 5 pounds very quickly. Then I started just walking everyday....dropped a few more. After I felt better about myself and saw progress, I adding riding my bike to work. Then I took a big jump and started Insanity...that really made an impact (i actually started to get sore!). I just recently added some weight lifting at the Y since my weight loss was going well. I simply wanted to start toning my body.
Take it at your own pace...as you get comfortable with what you're doing, it's time to add something more.
Nice to see someone local to me in this group too! (I'm in Holmen)0 -

AGREE!! I started with doing no exercise at all and just logging. then I quit logging and started exercising! Then I did both but cardio only. I continue to evolve and change my workouts! I learn about new things on MFP. Some I like, others I don't. This isn'a a one-size-fits-all site! ALl are welcome so we can learn from one another!!
BTW, I cannot HEAR Peggy Sue or Leader of the Pack without doing some sweating to the oldies moves!! LOL Love my Richard Simmons and TurboFire with Chalene Johnosn. DOn't forget Denise what's her name!?! (I'm so proud of yoooou!)

My kids want to know how I can beat them at Just Dance on the Wii. I tell them I grew up with aerobic videos! I can follow the moves on a TV screen with the best of them!! LOL0 -
Hi all, nice to have a group in my age bracket, well at least for a few more years then I'll have to find the 50+ group. Love MFP and the great vibe you all provide. I have about 10lbs to lose to get back to good. My husband and I do P90X weights and a variety of cardio tapes Sun-Fri mornings (mostly). I get my workouts in but if I don't track, I gain.
Whenever I stop logging and just wing it the scale always moves in the wrong direction, so I'm back to being faithful starting late last week and can always use encouragement.0 -

i am so glad this thread is here! is there a separate group or are we sticking to this thread?
i'm new to the club, just turned 40. Really noticing changes in the way my body reacts to food and exercise, and also struggling with feelings of "but i love food too much and life is short" vs "i really want to hit that goal weight"
I'm not all that overweight, just trying to lose approx 10lbs and get more toned. Of course i'd love visible abs but i just don't think it's going to happen, because I love food too much.
I work out 6 days a week, lifting, circuit training, lots of cardio, and i walk everywhere (i live in a big city, makes for great walking!)0 -

I just got back from my (late) lifting session. My lower-back is really SORE....somewhere (likely my American deadlifts) I did NOT squeeze by back/glutes HARD enough.

How did fasting affect your workout? I love fasted cardio but I find it hard when lifting. Two weeks ago, I did a workout in the evening. I had a patty melt and fries for lunch (don't judge :noway: ) and I breezed through the workout. This morning, same workout but no breakfast. I did add 45 lbs to the sled. i had a much harder time gettign through it.0 -

First I wanted to buy 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels, the result pics of people are amazing, but they all look young and I wasn't sure if I could actually do it without killing myself so I'm starting slow. Has anyone here done the 30 day shred and survived?0

LBN, I've been doing ALL work-outs fasted (about 14- to 15- hours fasted, actually) since November, 2012. I NEVER figured I could EVER handle it (too much old bikram noise in my head, I guess...), but it turns out I LOVE IT!
I don't have any DVD products, mrszee1, so am hoping someone chimes in with some suggestions/advice!
