I'm not sure I understand the point of bathing...

I almost always sit down in the tub because I use alot of scrubs and soaks to detox and wear mud masks on my face frequently. If I am actually "dirty" like I've sweat all day or I've been cleaning the house or working outside, yes I shower first because that's disgusting, but if all I've done all day is sit around the house or sat in my office at work, I'm sitting down in the tub first, relaxing, then getting up showering with a scrub brush, soap, and sham/cond my hair.
  • Long soak first, not usually much "filth" from just soaking (I guess I don't get as dirty as some people?), then after, once there's more hot water, shower to get my pre-soaked self clean. It's like hand washing dishes... I wouldn't wash and rinse them under running water first, then leave them to soak in the sink after they're clean.

I would probably do baths more often if they weren't so damned small. I can't ever get comfy and I'm only 64". I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be for your taller human.

Baths are otherwise alright, although I still prefer showers just for expediency sake.

I bathe about 90% of the time and shower the rest of the time. It is my 20 minutes of me time to relax.

    Shower
    - hot water massage on neck and back
    - pleasant variation of water movement patterns & pressure - meditative, distracting, repetitive
    - more relaxing BECAUSE of the nice water movement and being able to move around, restlessness gets out of the body. can relax mind enough to sing ABBA songs & dance within the bounds of safety - feel alive
    - easy temperature control
    - a million times cleaner

    >

    bath:
    - sit in filth
    - associated with pain and sickness
    - temperature annoying to manage (too hot = stay flushed & uncomfortable until you cool a massive body of still water; takes ages for heat to get through a cold bath; it's only perfectly right for 30 seconds)
    - mental and physical restlessness - nowhere to go! trapped! bored!
    - if you do relax it's because you've been stupified by heat - feel like you're half in a coma

Baths are great. I have this huge Jacuzzi tub and it is wonderful just laying there thinking getting blasted by the water jets with some nice scented candles around.

It is more fun if hubby joins.

It is kind of hard to get out of as it is really deep and big.

I hate showers. I hate the water blasting at me, hate it drumming on my skin, hate it going in my eyes, hate the fact that no matter how hard I try to keep it dry, my hair gets wet (sorry, I don't wash my hair every day, not necessary).

So yeah, I bath. I never get scum lines, nor does my water change colour, so I have to assume I'm not generating much 'filth' in which to stew.

we only have a bath at home. But as I am at the gym most days I'll use their hot water and shower there! Even the kids only bath once a week now cause they'll get a hot shower after swimming the rest of the time.

Once it was no longer fun to bring my Playmobil sea creatures into the bathtub, I stopped taking baths.

I like showers, but I do like to have a bath in the Winter with lots of bubbles, and I read a book too.

baths are disgusting, it's like sitting in your own filth! lol, it's one thing with babies they like to play BUT i prefer showers, it doesn't help either I'm too tall for most bath tubs, and a nice hot shower running over my face after a long day is my relaxation!

When I was a kid, we didn't have a shower in the apartment we lived in, so it was a bath or nothing.

Since then, I might run a hot bath just to relax or read (scented, of course!), but for getting clean, I shower.

Well, as a mom, sometimes being in the bathroom is the only way to escape. They will hunt me down otherwise... So - I hide in there and make the most of it with some music and wine....THEN I shower!

The only thing more gross than a bath to get clean is a soak in the petri dish (hot tub). I always shower after both. Sometimes a bath is necessary to soak out the pain, but it's not a fave of mine.

Showers are for a morning to freshen up. Baths are for on a night time to chill out before bed.

    Loving the shower snobbery.

Me? I am a filthy bath user. Long soaks, loads of bubbles and if the water changes colour, so what?

I am pretty certain mankind survived for millennia before some bright spark invented the shower. Water holes, rivers and other waterways that included things like duck and fish poo were popular before the bathtub too!

Ridiculous to be so judgemental over it!
  • This is a totally legitimate topic about bathes verses showers!!
Since I was a teenager I have only bathed to soak sore muscles.
Does anyone use a bath as their primary means of getting clean?

Personally, I find bathing a great way to relax, be it in the mornings, or after a hard day. Luckily, when we bought our house, my wife demanded that we get a whirlpool tub, so that helps a lot. I, however, do not take baths to get clean. Even when I'm going to take a bath, I'll generally soak for a while and play on my phone, or read for a bit, then after I'm over it, I'll drain the water and take a proper shower. Honestly, I don't remember taking a bath to get clean since I was a kid. I turn 35 tomorrow, so that's been a while.

I do bathe when I'm really cold and want to warm up.

    japanese_woman_onsen.jpg

I would be submerged to the top of my head with only bubbles surfacing. From where, I will not say.

How dirty are ya'll who mention that you can't stand sitting in your own filth?

I can understand preferring a shower over a bath, but not because of a reason like that.

Takes all kinds, I guess.
