PeachStateGal and others in the ATL area - I wandered around the new outlet mall off 575 for about 4 hours with my friend this afternoon. Got some great pieces for fall - especially at the Van Huesen and Columbia stores. I'd go back to both of them again. As always, many are of no interest, but we had fun poking through the stores. I'd like to go and spend more time in UnderArmor, but my motivation was getting low at that point. After I returned home from there for a bit, I decided to go up to Kohl's as I had a 30% off coupon expiring today, so I found a great new purse and a tote bag there. I also got a couple of the pashmina/shawls that were also on sale. Those will be handy for my upcoming travels, being on planes, etc. All in all, a VERY successful shopping day! (But after being up until 1:30a, I am r-e-a-l-l-y tired tonight.) Despite the shopping I'm only at ~ 7400 steps, but it will have to do for the day. As we were leaving the outlets area I noticed they have sidewalks all around the perimeter of the center. Could be a good place to walk once in a while.

:flowerforyou: The line dance performance at the fair went very well…..several of the dancers in the class I teach came to watch…..Jake and I didn’t eat any of the food at the fair….instead we stopped at the Vietnamese restaurant and had curry chicken with rice noodles…..then we stopped and each of us bought a new pair of jeans.

Pat–so glad your great-niece has someone to give her support and encouragement
    Heather–your coat sounds fantastic
Joyce–what a wonderful book you wrote for your daughter
Sue–I have used the title of that book–Alexander’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day–quite often to describe a day; it was one of my boys’ favorite books
Melanie–this is the summer of very little sunshine in the South; quite an unusual summer
Joyce–what a positive post; you are a great writer
    Sandy–Congratulations on the weight loss!!!
Barbie–keep wishing I lived in the NW and could see one of your line dances
DS#1 was down for the weekend to celebrate my birthday (which is actually tomorrow, but he has to work). We had a picnic yesterday; fortunately it didn't rain, just cloudy which kept the temperature very comfortable. Then this morning, DS#1 took me out for breakfast, along with DS#2's girlfriend (DS#2 had training all day at the fire department) to Aretha Frankenstein’s in Chattanooga–great small restaurant with fantastic waffles. This evening was the university’s employee picnic at the local amusement part (Lake Winnie). The picnic signals the beginning of another school year, so meetings, etc. begin this week; classes begin August 29. It’s getting late. Have a wonderful week!

Joyce - I just love reading your posts. I remember MIL used to buy clothes. She had plenty but if she could get it on sale, she bought it and never got rid of it. When we moved her to PA to be closer to us, we kept some of her clothes down at the condo. Then when she passed, there is no way I could fit into them so we gave lots and lots away.

barbie - thanks for the update about Phyllis. I'm so glad she's OK. Please give her my best if you're "talking" to her again. You know, one of my strengths is organization. Vince leaves things until the absolute last minute and then they don't get done. Now if I hadn't done some pre-planning of buying things for the social, where can we get tables/chairs and when can we pick them up, I'd be running around like a head without a chicken right about now. But I enjoy doing things like that. Now I'm not real good at deligating chores, I'll just do it myself, which is bad when you're heading a committee which is one of the reasons why I tend to shy away from heading things. You know what's one of the things that I try to work around? Making sure I can get my exercise in. Like I know that I'll take the extremepump class Mon so I won't pick up the tables then, I'll shoot for doing it Tuesday when I'm going to do something at home and can start earlier. The lady at the church where I'm going to borrow some tables will be there from 8-1. I do have my boob squeeze that day and I need to be there at 9:45. So...if I take the Outlook, and since I'm doing something at home which means I can do it really early, I can maybe get them at 8:30 or so. Good luck at your performance, I know you'll be great!

We had a large mirror that we moved to NC from PA. That was only 5 years ago. Well, it's been downstairs still wrapped up from the move. Vince just put it up. Why did it take him so long? Because the paper got ruined when we got the water in the basement so he FINALLY put it up. I did help him. He also put up my bowling towel, it's only been framed since May. Why did he do it? He needed the plastic bag it came in. Oh well...whatever it takes

Vince finished using the tractor while I used the lawn mower. He started to using the weed wacker (I go behind him and sweep the clippings onto the grass), but something happened and he broke this part to the weed wacker so we went to Home Depot. Got one that'll fit. But first I stopped at AC Moore to get some yarn. I'm thinking that EVENTUALLY I want to make a blanket for Ronnie (who let me stay at her place in Switzerland and really helped us while Vince was in the hospital). The 5lb skeins were on sale 2/$12 and I had a coupon for $10 off so in total it cost me $2.15

workerbee - I do find that when I prelog my food, it really helps. Sometimes I'll find that I'm over and I can make a substitution. Only that's not always possible (boo)

Heather - take care of yourself, now. And get lots and lots of rest.

I overslept this morning then realized that sometimes it happens that the hands on the alarm clock in Jessica's room get moved. But it really didn't make that much of a difference since I'm not planning on any exercise today, just cleaning the bathrooms. I think I'll take Lance and Shadow's food, water and litter and put it into the sink area and close the door to the bathroom so I can really clean that bathroom and it'll stay somewhat clean. See, we have two bedrooms on the other end of the house joined by a jack-and-jill bathroom. What that is, is off the bedroom there is a small room with the sink, then there is a small room with the toilet and tub, then a small room with a sink, then the other bedroom.

grandmalle - boy, you sure pack a lot into one day!

DeeDee - after viewing your pics, I am definitely up for adoption!!!! Breathtaking!

dargealing - welcome. Unfortunately, calories on the weekend DO count. But you do know that if you put a cake on top of your refrigerator, the calories will jump out since they're afraid of heights, don't you <JK>

    Rhonda - happy birthday

Yoga tomorrow, then my plank challenge, then the extremepump class. I think I'm going to get my bangs trimmed after exercise, they are just getting in the way

I am the Queen of procrastination, I have worn that crown for many many years. I have no idea what gene my girls got that they are not only good at organization but are really good at it. My grand daughter even loves to make lists and check them off. Maybe they got them from my Mom. As a preachers wife with 5 kids and very little money to work with she had to organize! My husband just tends to not even see that anything needs to be done or assume that some one else would take care of it. And now with the MS, what I call critical thinking, becomes so laborous to me that I fret and fret. I can't see that 2+2=4. I can't see how it gets there. That's one thing that really frustrates me about my departure from nursing. I can't put the path of anything together.

I preplan almost everyday and log it in. Supper is the only meal that is left up in the air and I try to figure out in advance what I am eating before I eat it. Like today we went to a chain Japanese/Chinese/American buffet. I know in advance what I am going to eat and don't even go down any of the other buffet aisles. I see what's on my husbands plate but I don't want ribs and a bunch of the other stuff he fills his arteries with.

The clothing bank loves clothes with tags on them since they allow the women to get brand new clothes. Really makes them feel better. Yes, Mom would have loved knowing they are going to a clothing bank in a pretty poor area. When Dad was alive and Mom wore something he really loved, especially some of her slacks he had this particular growl he would give. As the preacher's wife he didn't want her pants to be tight but not real baggy. When he died she couldn't give away those clothes although they became way to big for her. She first moved into a small one bedroom apartment at the retirement home. It had two very small closets and there just was no room for those clothes that didn't fit her but she didn't care. I offered to keep them here but she wanted them in HER bedroom. So we bought organizers and made room. She finally was able to give them away at one point knowing where they would be going. I felt the same way about some of the clothes I got from her. They were always to old for me, I knew that when I brought them home. But they were Mom, they smelled like Mom, her favorite brooch was still on one. So now they are gone for some other woman to start making memories for her and her family

I love this story, Joyce. Your appreciation and love for your mom shines through.

We had a lovely time on our boat. We spent a few days in a former log holding pond in the middle of an island on the Washington side of the river about 6 miles from home. It was quiet and we enjoyed every minute. We sailed all the way home. Now we're home and both of us are over-tired.:ohwell:

    Good morning beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

I had a busy busy weekend and I`m still tired from it:grumble: . I had both granddaughters:love: on Saturday and it rained all day:angry: ,they still wanted to go out on the golf cart:noway: . The oldest one just got the flu mist and since it`s a live vaccine she was coughing and blowing her nose and not feeling all that great:sick: , which meant she wasn`t as nice to her sister as she usually is:tongue: . I had to step in a few times to keep the peace:ohwell: ! As much as I adore my girls I was ready to take them home:blushing: , the dog was tired too:tongue: ! As much rain as we had on Saturday I only lost 2 flowers out of the tree, however I wasn`t going to climb the ladder in the rain to put them back up:noway: . They were all fresh flowers and because it`s been cool and wet they still look good this morning. Sunday I spent most of the day with the guys:love: and then went out to dinner, I think I need another weekend to recover from this one:laugh: . This morning I have a dentist appt., thank goodness it`s just a cleaning, I like having sparkly clean teeth:bigsmile: ! Think I will sneak home early today and see if I can get a nap this afternoon, I need more sleep:yawn: !

Have a wonderful Monday ladies!!! Drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: and log your food!

    Hugs,

DH and I had a lovely time on the boat, but he had a horrible insulin reaction last night. I was tempted to call the paramedics, but followed the steps we always use, and they worked. Thank goodness. (glucose tabs, and chocolate frosting) It was scary for a while there. :frown: He has always had more trouble managing his diabetes during the summer because of the temptation to play too hard and not watch the food intake well enough. Heat can be a factor, but it wasn’t hot yesterday. It was absolutely gorgeous. He needed more food.

Today’s project is to see if we can find airfare for our daughter so she can join us for a party for our son. He will be away for several months for work.

    Have a great day..

    August goals:
    1. Log every bite
    2. Move more.
    3. Drink at least 2 glasses of water daily.

    Happy Monday –

It is hard to believe the August is almost over and the school year is about to begin. I don’t have children, but can track the school year based on the traffic and the time my commute into the office increases once school has started back up.

The Lisa LaMpanelli comedy show was a blast. Her new show is called Skinny ***** and it goes through all of her trials and tribulations of being heavy. She finally had lap band surgery a year ago and has lost over 100 lbs. Her humor isn’t for everyone, but it was a good show and insightful on another person’s weight loss journey.

From a goal perspective I give myself a B+. I logged every item except for dinner Friday and Saturday night and I managed to get my 14,000 steps in every day, but came a little short last night at 13,800. Silly, but I couldn’t make myself do those last 200 steps. My weight stayed the same this week, so am hoping to see some downward movement this week.

 Grandmallie – isn’t Fitbit a great company? I’ve had to replace 2 and their customer service department has been so good to work with.
 DeeDee – hope your fairyland picnic was a hit with your granddaughter.
 Katie – loved your hummingbird story. We have a butterfly bush and this year it has been remarkable in that there are at least a dozen butterflies on it at all times. I have never seen so many. We have an occasional hummingbird stop by, but nothing like yours.
 Jmkmomm – loving your love list.
 Sandy – congratulations on the great weight loss this week. That is incredible.
 Heather – glad to hear your are feeling better, take care of yourself.

Well that is all for now. Have a lovely week.

Good morning, Hope everyone had a good weekend. I had my 5 year DGD for the weekend. Kept me pretty busy, love it, but was glad when she went home I needed a nap. We had a busy weekend on Saturday we went to Kearney to help with a poker run to raise money for Make a Wish. This is the 12th year and there was over 300 motorcycles. Really a neat site when they all pull out at the same time. Then when they got back they had a supper set up. Then yesterday our CMA went to one of the churches here in town and did a biker sunday. Then after church we served a meal to the church. Last Friday went with DH to the heart doctor and now he has to go back this Friday to have some more tests. Sounds he may have to have a stent put in. They are on top of it so trying not to worry. Well just wanted to check in and I will read and get caught up. Tomorrow is weigh in day so hoping for good there. Blessed. Vicki GI NE
  • Happy Monday everyone. Welcome to the new ones. I am struggling with the scales, but I understand. I am NOT making the right food choices. I may be staying close to my goal calorie count, but the food is NOT the correct choices. NOW I must work on that.

    Good morning everyone

Just got back from lawn bowl game and I'm hot. It is supposed to be a hot and humid week here in Ottawa. Bowling in a tournament tomorrow, so must remember to take lots of water with me. Checked on what is being served for lunch and the organizer is going to put some on one side for me with no pepper or mayo so I won't have to make lunch in the morning.

Off to the mall this afternoon to do a walk around and then later will get on with my lace. I completed 2 corners yesterday (it is a rectangle) so feel like I'm making progress. Trying to watch what I'm doing and not make any mistakes, but when all the pins are in, it is hard to see the lace.

Off to make lunch, but first I'll track it.

Gray day here..........nothing new there. Been to the gym for ladies exercise and then some additional time on the weight machines.

I'm a non-drinker but had 2 small glasses of Sangria at the party last evening; it was from Whole Foods and very good. We were saying good-bye to a woman from Spain who supervises the exchange students for our area; she lived the past few weeks with one of my yoga instructors and came to several yoga sessions.

    Dee Dee..........your tree looks lovely

Liz.........thanks for the update on your sister

Michele............men!!!! remember I just got the 30yrs.-promised outdoor shed.......I can certainly identify with you on this!!

Welcome newbies.........I know there were more replies, but my mind is blank,sorry.........can I blame the Sangria??????

Good morning lovely ladies. Today is my parents wedding anniversary. If they were still alive it would be 71 years. And event though their bodies wouldn't quite cooperate anymore they would have been happy. When dad died they had been married for 56 years. Mom never took her wedding ring off, even when she broke her leg and the nurses were insisting it had to be taken off I knew from being in nursing that it can be taped on so that's what they did. I am so glad that God has a soul mate already picked out for you and he put the wheels in motion for them to meet. He blessed them with many years of life and happiness. They touched so many people's lives. I also am glad that when a person takes marriage into their own hands that God does continue to bless you with wonderful children and help you through the struggles of life. I was sure Charlie was the right one for me when in fact he wasn't but we made it work because of my parents influence of loving without judging. So happy anniversary Don and grace Peterson. I know you are holding hands and walking through a path of flowers or tomatoes or something in Heaven singing of God's love. You also are finally able to be with you daughter who was taken form us at age 20. I will always love you. You still continue to touch lives. My sister's son was an alcoholic and his Grandpa's death was the turning point in his life. The funeral was barely over and he had checked himself into an intpatient facility and has never looked back. When Mom died both of my brothers had sons that were drug addicts and dealers. One was actually sentenced to an inpatient facility where he stayed a year. Now he is a healthy, happy father of 2 wonderful children and son. The other turned himself around and will give testimony that it was his shame of lying to Grandma when she was in Hospice that caused him to turn around. I love you

Hello ladies. I've been missing for some time because my two week vacation at home in England turned into a month of eating too much, drinking too much lovely white wine, and not exercising enough. So now all the weight I lost this spring/summer has gone back on and I'm back to square one. I started back at the gym today and have started logging my food and exercise. In addition, I'm stopping the wine for a while and will stick to sparkling water for a while.

I haven't kept up with the posts so I'll start fresh here.

Just wanted to say hi to Joyce for your lovely post about your parents. Sending you a big hug.

    Hi all,

We’re back from vacation and I wanted to pop in and say hi even though I don’t have time to read or respond since I’m still catching up at work. Vacation was wonderful, even though we had lousy weather the second half of the week. Thank goodness we got in lots of beach and pool time on Sunday through Tuesday.:glasses: Wednesday we visited Roanoke Island for an art festival where I got some treasures made by local artists. Thursday and Friday were a bust, but we did go to see “The Butler”, which was really good (caution….a tear jerker).

I am happy to say that I continued with my running routine on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I visited the fitness center on Tuesday, but I must have done something wrong on one of the machines because my legs were aching for days afterward. I might have been a little too enthusiastic! At least I tried, right?

Didn’t log or watch what I ate, and I had a gain of three pounds, two of which were gone this morning.

We came back to a broken water heater which is now replaced, thanks to my SIL who came over while the new one was installed this morning (I had to leave for work).

As always, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of the newcomers. You will feel the love and support of all who post on this thread. I know I do!

    GOALS FOR AUGUST:
Consistent logging (Pretty good except on vacations)
Drink at least 9 glasses of water a day (90%)
Find an exercise class I enjoy (NOT YET!!!)
RUNNING OUTDOORS (Yep and loving it!)
LOWER SODIUM FOODS (Working on it!)
    STOP OBSESSING ABOUT FOOD (Hmmmmm…..)

Congrats to all on their success, and (((hugs))) to all who are struggling. Hang in…..it gets better!

    Hugs,
    Lucy in DE.

    Good evening lovely ladies,

It's been a struggle today with the aftermath of the virus, but I think I'm on the turn! Felt very poorly in the morning but let DH do most of the running around after DGS. I began to feel a bit better after a lunchtime nap, when DGS was asleep. It didn't help to have the painters here, making a lot of dust, all the windows open and the cleaner trying to clean round them! I notice that the lymph glands where I had the cancer surgery are complaining and my breast which had the lumpectomy is all red. I can feel a bit of energy returning now, so hope I'm over the worst.

Deedee- shame about the rain. I think just having the one grandchild to look after is a bit of a luxury. We will find out what two are like soon!

Katla - that must have been a bit scary with the diabetes. Glad you were able to cope. Husbands, on the whole don't know how to care for their own health. It's hard to get mine to eat enough. He so easily loses weight.

LizPlus- what a business you had with the car. I so hate it when any of my machines let me down - I take it personally! It sounds as if that garage was a nightmare! I wish you strength in supporting your sister through this so hard time.

Tracy - welcome!:flowerforyou: I'm sure we are just what you need to get on track.

Vicki- hope you get DH's heart problems sorted. At least you found out about it.

Helen - I'm glad you had a nice indulgent holiday. Wine is nice, especially on holiday, but we do have to call a halt at some point. Good decision to have a bit less! I'm sure quite abit of the weight will be water weight so it wont take you as long as you think to get back on track.

My new fleece lined raincoat arrived today. It's great, really jazzy with its broad red stripes. It is definitely not the sort of thing I would have bought when I was bigger so I feel quite proud of myself for choosing such a 'fun' item. DH likes it. It is certainly different!

Bye for now. Tomorrow we have a Skype session with DGS' s mother, who is obviously missing him  and then we take him back in the evening to the other grandparents ready for them to take him back to London on Wednesday. Then DSIL arrives at 9pm. All would be great if we didn't have the painters making dust everywhere.

Love from Heather in Hampshire UK. (Sunny for the next few days)

I thank every one of you for your encouragement about me writing down all my memories. So for now i have decided to start writing them in a notebook or if I can figure out where to put in on my mini Ipad and save it, transfer it etc I will use that. So for now I will call it either 'Recollections of my life' or 'My life through rose colored glasses' or maybe even a combination of the two.

Just finished my session at the Y and am pooped! I am still riding 'my bike' at a more leisurely pace and get 7 miles in. I tried to use the, oh what do you call it? You stand on it and use it with both arms and legs or choose to use just legs. I'm tired enough right now words escape my brain. Anyway I tried to use it using just my arms and just couldn't get it to work and it was very awkward standing on the frame and operating the arms. So I went over and used the stationary sit row but put it at the very minimum weight and it was OK. So I went over to one of the machines like the one that the word escapes my brain and you sit in a seat and operate it. Couldn't do the arms only and after riding 7 miles on the bike my legs just couldn't do it.. So I cleaned up and left, sat out in the lobby and finished my water and crawled out to the car. I don't know why the cat loves to sit on my lap when I get home from the Y. Not sure if she likes the smell of sweat or not but she sure does a lot of smelling of my face. Now watching teen tournament on Jeopardy and then take a shower.

Talk to you all later. Joyce
