Tall girls...goal weight?

Good gods ladies! This idea of a general weight fitting all body types of a given height and age is ridiculous. First of all, when I was thin, my aunt and I who are the same height, however I am built more like a line backer with hips any Latina would be proud of, my aunt on the other hand is built like a swimmer... rail like with tapered hips. Her normal weight was 155 lbs, mine was 180 lbs. I should probably note that she has a 4.5 inch wrist where mine was 6.5 if that helps gauge bone frame. Our BMIs were similar... I think mine was at 21 while hers was just over 20.
My point being is that you shouldn't worry about what other people are trying to lose. Worry over what you are comfortable losing and then maintaining to be healthy. Hell I am 5'11", yet if I tried to get to a 160 goal weight, I would probably end up hospitalized. 175 was the lowest healthy weight I ever got to and that was working out 7 days a week 3 hours a day. Please note I was competing nationally for TKD and then I entered the military and gained weight. I was 190 lbs when I got out of the military.0 -

i am 5´10´´ and i´m aiming for 170 to begin with and see what happens then, i am at my lowest weight right now since i was 14 years old so i have no idea what is my ultimate goal weight is, but i m big frame also. But the number on my scale is JUST a number i prefer to look at my measurements0

I'm also 5'11" and my goal is 195. When I get there I'll see how I feel and go from there. But I've always felt that what the BMI chart suggests is unattainable for me; I'm a damn AMAZON! My hands and feet are huge, my legs are long, and my calves are like rocks! But I love being tall, wouldn't trade it for anything!0

I'm 5'10 and weigh 147. I want to be 140. You have to go with what makes you feel good within your healthy BMI. Frames matter and so does height. My lowest adult weight is 132 and I was a walking skeleton. Not good. 120 is for people who are much shorter than us.

I have a question for the taller girls...5'7 and taller. I stand 5'8. I weigh 140. I have noticed a lot of women on here with goals or an actual weight of around 120 lbs. I feel good about my weight, but am questioning if I need to lose more? I have a healthy BMI, I feel good, and I am in a size 5 pants size. Should I lose MORE weight? I mean, it would definitely be a new challenge for me, but I'm not sure how I would look. I think I could lose more, but what makes you guys want to be 120? I mean, with how tall we are, I think that even at 150 we look fit. Is it for your health? BMI? Or is it looks? Just wondering!!
I don't understand. You were fine until you started comparing yourself to other women? If everyone goes brunette, will you question whether you should get that next set of foil highlights, too? You lack self-confidence.0 -
I think 120 is too skinny for 5'8. I am that height and when I was 120, I was too boney, and it wasn't natural for my body. I say eat the maintenance amount of calories for a while and see where your body ends up. My natural weight ended up being around 135.0

5'-10" and large frame (7" wrist). My goal weight is 175, primarily because when I weighed that I could easily wear a size 10 and maintained that weight for a very long time (whereas when I dropped to 165 I was constantly battling to stay there). Though, looking back, I'm rather saddened that in college I weighed 150 and in high school I weighed 135 and still thought I was "big" because I kept comparing myself to smaller girls. Considering that 135 is listed as actually being underweight for my frame size and height, I think I was being unfair to myself and didn't even know it.
Currently I'm at 195 and am on the smaller side of a size 14 (I can get into a 12 but it's a little too tight to be comfortable).0 -
I'm 5'11 and I'd like to be around 150-60
That's my "ideal" but that might just be weight lost, not much muscle gained.
I've been eating clean and going to the gym 4x a week for the past month and have only lost around 3lbs.
Clothes are fitting better but the scale hasn't moved much. I believe it depends on strictly fat/weight loss vs weight loss AND muscle gain.0 -
I'm 5'8" and currently weigh 163. I wear a size 10 pants. I know that I am healthy. To me there is a difference between thin and skinny. I would never want to be skinny again. I was skinny when I graduated high school at 137 and wore a tiny size. I have had 2 children now and feel that at 150-160 is perfect for me. Its more towards the top of my BMI, but I still feel "thin". I think its a feeling thing. just because people on here are thinner than you does not mean that you need to be thinner. Getting to a certain weight, pants size is maybe important, but I think its more important to be happy with how you feel when you look in the mirror.0

I'm 6' with a medium-large frame and my ideal weight is to be between 165 - 185. I'm aiming afor at least 185 and will go down from there until I'm comfortable. I don't think I'm going to make it below 170, I have a feeling anything less that that will be too skinny.0

I am 5'9" ish. I weigh 152 pounds, give or take. I look slender, but not skinny. I estimate a medium frame. My goal is to get in the mid to high 140's, but no less. I still have some belly fat, I would like to see lessen. However at 55 years, I won't sacrifice my face for a smaller size.0

I'm 5'7" and have weighed as little as 96lbs and as much as 156. I didn't feel good at either sizes for the same reasons; my clothes didn't fit right, I had low body confidence, and I hated the way my body felt and looked. The weight I feel best at is around 130lbs. At that weight I look my best, feel healthiest, and have the most energy.0

For me, I am 5'8" with a target BMI range of 120-164 pounds. I am aiming for 150. If you are going to be our height and 120, you have to have very small bone structure and probably a very low muscle mass. I have medium bone structure and fairly developed muscle mass, so I will not be trying to go below the middle point of my range. I am ~166 pounds right now and fitting into an 8 or a 10 pant, depending on the cut.
You are right in the middle of your healthy range and are probably fine to maintain there. If you are not sure, go somewhere and get an accurate body fat % test done, and if you are healthy or low there, you are probably good. If it is still high, you can probably lose some more. Hope that helps!
I'm 5'8" and was 122-130 in my 20s and early 30s....(To think I felt heavy then). I gained weight and lost back down to 140 which was a size 6 and felt great....Then life happened and I ballooned up. My goal is to get back to 140. In the back of my mind, I'd really like to see 122 again (size 4), but don't think that is reasonable as I had no muscle tone and was "skinny fat".0 -
I'm 6'2" and my goal is to get to 175 and then see how I feel/look. 175 might be a little low for me, but the lowest I've ever been was 195 and I still wanted to lose a bit. We shall see!0

Hi :-) I'm 5'9" and currently fat at 230lbs or around that. The lowest I have been is 160 and I actually used to get a lot of negative comments as my hips stuck out and I looked unwell. I am aiming for 180lbs and see how I look...
I agree it's not the number we should focus on! How you look and feel in your skin is most important.0 -
Ok, I'm 57 y/o...I started MFP at 166 pounds fall of 2012 and lost 21 pounds and kept it off...I can pretty much maintain but recently I have been gaining 3-5 lbs. and I have to get serious and stop this right now.....My problem is...I was kinda satisfied at 145 but the guy at the gym gold me I needed to lose 10 more pounds...which really depressed me because I thought i looked pretty good, so I kind of gave up I guess....soo...I have reset my goal weight to 135 and am working toward that now.......oh boy...just have to leave the HALLOWEEN CANDY ALONE and get back to the gym....I just have been feeling rotten lately with sinus infections etc... need some motivation ...thanks for listening....0

Im 5'8 and my goal is 110lbs.
im at 115 right now, working out everyday. ive got lean abs, its nice. i cant wait to reach my goal0 -
personally, I have sort of a small frame but I'm 15 and 5'9. But I am sort of skinny and 114lbs. but it works and I usually wear a 00 or 0 extra long in jeans and I believe I'm a healthy weight but doctors say it's underweight, so whatever weight looks good on you!0
