Are you a wizard, of science?

No, I ruined my health, eating like you do, and I'm trying to reverse all the damage that I did to myself...
And now I read a lot about health and nutrition...

I can read a lot of things too.

I suggest that you do that... Science is cool...
Then why not interpret the science that you've learned and in your own words tells us why saturated fat , cholesterol and animal protein is unhealthy, can you do that?

I'd be interested in seeing some science behind the idea of antibiotics and hormones ingested by animals having a negative impact on the humans that consume them.

    Antibiotics: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/health/story/2012-04-20/antibiotics-animals-human-meat/54434860/1
There is no science in this article that links antibiotic use in animals to any problems in humans. The title says it does, but I just read the whole thing twice... and it's simply not in there. There are some non-scientific suggestions that maybe it's linked somehow but it's not proven... I was hoping for actual science.
I hit puberty a long time ago (at a normal age), and I ate more meat back then than I do now... I don't think this one is going to affect me. The science in there isn't conclusive but at least it's there. That's better than the USA today example by miles. Still not nearly enough to get me to stop eating meat :)

That contradicts what your inferring, do you even know what your saying?

Your vegan conversion tactics need work.

There's no tactics to convert you, keep doing what you're doing if you think it's scientifically sound...
You have no idea what I do.

I am a vegetarian, almost vegan, except that I do eat cheese and non-vegan eggs on rare occasions. However, the main difference between you and I is that I'm not an abrasive, confrontational ******* about it.

    1) No offense intended but you ruined your health by getting obese by eating in a chronic energy surplus. If you think your state of physical affairs was due to hormones or meat consumption you need to entirely discard your current resources for "learning about health and nutrition".

    2) I would suggest looking at the research (by research I don't mean blogs, I mean the actual data used to form opinions) and see if it supports your current views.

    ^^ this.
Sorry dude. If there's one thing that the research agrees on, its that being obese is bad. Good for you for recognizing that you need to make a change. And if cutting a bazillion "evil" foods out of your diet is how you need to do it, then fine.

But if you're gonna start telling us about SOUND SCIENCE lets see some proof. Put your studies on the table.

Oh what's that? They're all epidemiological studies? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology)

And correlation does not equal causation?

Ok then. (go ahead. Link your studies. We'll read them.)

Please. That's insulting. If you ate how I eat and trained how I trained you would be in the best shape of your life.
Keep reading. Better yet, get out there and walk the walk.

I'm doing my best to walk the walk...
However I disagree about you eating healthy, from my personal experiences, and reading scientific journals...
But that doesn't mean that you're unhealthy, in science there are exceptions, but in general they are pretty much solid...

You know about one single meal that I ate, and you're making strong absolute conclusions from it: that I'm not healthy, and that it is a scientific fact that I will need a cardiologist.

Science. That's not how it works. I wish you luck. For what it's worth, when I first started down this path, I held some pretty strong dogmatic beliefs as well. I evolved. I hope you do.

This is typical dogmatic vegan propaganda and like most, talk about science then offer none...........science is not emotional, yet you avoid the science and respond to the emotional. If there were actual documented health concerns regarding animal protein, it wouldn't just be available to the vegan community, would it?

What am I crying about? The part where it says to eat FISH to reduce the risk of heart disease? Last time I checked, fish is an animal protein. If you're going to claim you know what's right because of science, it pays to actually read the science, and make sure it actually agrees with the nonsense you're spouting. For the record, that chart said nothing about saturated fat intake, or cholesterol. I believe the closest it got to supporting your position was saying that eating vegetables is good for you (but it didn't say eating ONLY vegetables is good for you.)

Spend some time on pubmed, reading actual studies, not articles in newspapers.

For the record, vegans have the same rates of disease and death as meat eaters (that whole pesky fact that overconsumption of carbs can actually cause atherosclerosis, not fat, a fact that was ALSO listed on the chart you posted to apparently disprove your own argument.) from what I've read, pescatarian style diets tend to be healthiest, followed by ovo-lacto vegetarians, then moderate meat consumption, vegan, and heavy red meat consumption.

You posted it knowing full well that you were going to get replies in line with what you got. You were looking for a fight. Why? Do you have nothing better to do with your time? You will convince literally nobody going about it how you are, and so you're just wasting your time. I don't see what you're getting out of the debate here. A sense of a job well done? Yet you've accomplished nothing.

You might want to check your entries in your diary. For example:

Orville Redenbacher's - Original Popcorn Popped, 10 cup: 150 calories with 290g cho, 15g fat and 40g protein (you do not have fiber but its about 6g).

Also....ummm...Butter - Unsalted, 1 stick - for 810 calories and you are going on about saturated fats...give me a break.

There is so much scientific data proving the adverse health effects of eating animal protein, and I'm assuming that you have internet connection, therefore you're capable of looking them up yourself if you're interested... And being vegan or omnivore makes no difference in reading scientific data...
However for someone who describes themselves as "almost a vegan" , my question to you is why are you almost a vegan?
Why aren't you out there eating hot dogs, bacon, pork chops, hamburgers, if there's no scientific evidence that eating that is harmful to human health?

and you're still refusing to answer any of my questions, like...

I think we can all agree that the vegan lifestyle is a generally healthy one when approached correctly. I don't see any reason to bash someone, either... but, at the same time - until there is some real scientific evidence that I shouldn't eat something, and I enjoy eating that thing, I'm going to do it. I don't see any reason to bash or otherwise preach to those who do the same.

The way I'm eating right now includes (nay, requires) lots and lots of animal protein. I've also been researching as much as I can, and trying to me sure that I stay well within the guidelines provided by modern science. I'm not always perfect, but I am happy with the discipline I've developed in this regard.

for what it's worth, I didn't watch that original video... but does he manage to get 220g+ of protein per day without eating meat or a crap ton of calories?

It's a video of some guy doing a few body weight exercises with some nifty music and saying that he eats kale, spinach and beans. It's hardly evidence of anything other than that it is possible to be in great shape and eat vegan. I don't think anyone currently in this thread is going to argue with that.

You are correct, I ruined my health by overeating... And not eating healthy food...

    Conclusions
The results of our analyses suggest that men and women with a high consumption of processed meat are at increased risk of early death, in particular due to cardiovascular diseases but also to cancer. In this population, reduction of processed meat consumption to less than 20 g/day would prevent more than 3% of all deaths. As processed meat consumption is a modifiable risk factor, health promotion activities should include specific advice on lowering processed meat consumption.
