800 Calorie a Day - Suggestions

Before anyone starts with 800 calories being too low for a daily consumption - I will start by saying I was put on the calories by my Doctor. I questioned him as well - about the STARVATION MODE, and he disagrees with it. He says as long as you are eating throughout the day, your body will burn. So the reason I'm posting is I'm looking for suggestions on what to eat. I've completed a week (yesterday I want over)- but I'm eating similar every day. I want to add variety, but still stay in the Calorie requirement.
Thank you!
Thank you!

This is going to end well0

you want to lose 37lbs and your doctor has put you on an 800 calorie diet....???0
-
Maybe you should look for suggestions from your "doctor" then and not here.0

Cereals are always a good way to go, i eat special k, 2 bowls a day, means i can have a bigger lunch because of the other calories.
Cherry tomatoes and cucumber are a really low calorie snack, i can pretty much eat as much as i like.
Winter or not, there's only 40ish calories in ice lollies, a nice bit of flavour to add to your day0 -
My strongest recommendation is that you see a different doctor to get a second opinion.0

You may want to find a new doctor!0

No. Just no.0

Really? 800 calories? That's like eating only breakfast for the day. Are you sure the dr said 800 Calories?0

Doctor = Witch Doctor = Shaman Priest = Faith Healer??????0

Do you know what they call a doctor who graduated last in his class?
A doctor.
Or should I say your doctor?
Get a new one. One who doesn't suck.0 -
Lots of leafy greens. Lettuce, kale, stuff like that. Fills you up in no time and hardly have any calories.
I don't agree with 800cal diets, but if you want low cal foods, eat your greens
I agree with chelstakencha and laserturkey about getting a new doctor though ;-)0 -
I would recommend you see another doctor for a second opinion.0

Cearel, veggies, and ice lollies. Nice well-balanced diet you got there... :noway:0 -
Vegetables are a great way to get filled up for less calories. If you absolutely "need" dressing to enjoy your salad, try dipping your fork in the dressing before stabbing lettuce leaves so you get just a hint of flavor without all the calories. Cucumbers and carrots, I've found, are very filling because of the fiber (leave the skin on the cucumber!).
Lean meats like filet mignon steak, grilled chicken, and fish are very filling because of the protein without too many calories.
Eating a few times throughout the day definitely helps you get through such a grueling diet plan so you have less time with your stomach growling. After a few weeks, it gets easier.
Good luck! Please don't ignore your body. If you really start feeling fatigue, headaches, hair falling out more, or nails getting more brittle/dry, you may have gone too long without enough calories and you might need to take a break and re-nourish yourself. Stay in touch with your doctor!0 -
How long have you been seeing this doctor? Please make sure that what he said was truthful. Lots of health forums will simply tell you that 800 calories is too low. That said, we're just forums. I highly suggest you get an opinion from a second doctor, or even better, a nutritionist – your current doctor should be able to refer you to one, and if questioned, tell him you want to get a better idea of what to eat for the 800 cal requirement.
A diet full of mostly vegetables and a little fruit will keep you within the requirement, especially if you eat most things raw or juice them. Eat steadily throughout the day to keep your energy up.
But yeah, go see a nutritionist or a second doctor. 800 calories is preposterous.0 -
With so few calories I'm surprised your doctor didn't provide any diet guidance. But if that's all the calories I got, I'd go for lots of soups, chilis and stews. These have a lot of water so feel like you are eating more than you really are.0

I can imagine a doctor may in some cases suggest an 800 calorie diet, maybe.
I cannot imagine a doctor recommending such a number and then giving absolutely zero advice on how to fit a healthy balanced diet into those calories.0 -

Oh man, I'd be starving...0

Sounds like Medifast. They will start you off as low as 500 calories.0

I'm a doctor, so I will give you my advice:
Eat nothing until to lose 37 pounds. It may take a couple of months, but stick to it. What people don't tell you is that eating becomes a habit! Just break the habit.
Good luck.0 -

hi, can fully understand what you are going through as my doctor also put me on 800 cal a day, i stumbled upon my fitness pal and got all the same "you are crazy" responses, its hard as you do try and trust your doctor, i went back to him and said all my doubts but like you he said rubbish. I struggled a bit at the beginning but finally i am on 1100 ish a day, i try and eat clean and keep my carbs about 100g a day, i have lost steadily, i would rather be healthier than just thin and hope the thin part will come eventually, my diary is open, i want this to be a lifestyle choice not just a fad diet.
good luck0 -
How about eatting 1000 more of good food!? -_- And I suggest you tell you doctor you stick it up his annnossss!0
-
If you are really going to do this make sure what you eat is good healthy food. As everyone has already said, I really disagree with 800 calories a day. I think you will loose, but its not going to be healthy and its not going to help you learn how to eat for the long haul. Please seek a second opinion!0

I was only talking snacks, not my entire plan.
I eat chicken breast and veggies.
Turkey breast and rice.
Feel a bit alienated, just giving out some low calorie snack ideas, that's it.0 -
If a doctor gave you an 800 calorie a day limit, and didn't give you specific counseling on exactly what foods to eat or short-term followup, then ignore everything he has told you and find a new doctor immediately.0

My suggestion is that you load up on green veggies save your calories for fat/protein. The veggies will fill you up and provide you with nutrients and the fat/protein will increase your satiety levels.
I eat 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt every morning, like plain Fage or Greek Gods-NO Flavors added and add a tsp of honey and a good dose of cinnamon. This breakfast is filling and is only 135 calories.
For lunch and dinner, I'd say eat a source of protein. Chicken and turkey are good options. I'd stick with 3 oz. per serving. Here's a good list, I think, of proteins: http://www.womenandweight.com/weight-management/weight-loss/low-calorie-meat-poultry-fish-and-seafood-100-calories-or-less/
Additionally, eat a salad with a lemon and olive oil dressing, or homemade vinaigrette. Steamed broccoli, sautéed spinach, green beans, asparagus, cabbage, etc. are great fillers. You CAN have butter/oil, but mind the portions and calculate the calories. Generally-speaking, I can eat 30-50 calories per veggie and get really full.
For something sweet, I'd stick with berries. They are very low calorie and tasty!
Drink your water! It will help keep you from feeling so hungry, and it's just really good for your body to stay hydrated.
Good luck!0 -

I have to say I'd be seeking a second opinion as well. Or we don't have all the facts. Do you only have 37 lbs to lose? Is there a time deadline urgency, like a surgery or something? Why did this doctor suggest such a low amnt? What kind of a doctor is this?
Look, can it be done? I suppose. Don't know the long term effects on your body though. Probably not good. If you're married, may not have good long term effects on that either. {me get grumpy when hungry}.
give us more facts if you want help in whether this is a wise decision.0 -
Eat lettuce wraps with turkey or chicken and use mustard or salsa, really good.0
