Do you work out on your period?

Or do you take a break until your period ends? And is it bad to do strenuous exercise during that time of month? Thanks to anyone who answers.

I physically can't workout if my cramps are raging. Many will say light activity helps, but I'd rather lie in the bath popping pills. My cramps only last 2-3 days though, so the resr of my period is fair game!0

I do at least something , I just could afford to take 1 week off every month.0

Of course. I may take the first day or two off from the gym, but I'll still at least walk a mile or something on those days.0

Yes, I work out 6 days a week every week I might take a Motrin.0

i can't. Somehow, physically do not feel upto strenuos exercises for the first 3 days. after tht it is back to normal.0

Yes. I take some pain killers and keep going. I'm not about to let Aunt Flo ruin my daily plans just because she's visiting. That B can do what she wants, I'm not entertaining her.0

My main issue has mostly been bloating and cramps, but typically I just have to wait until my meds start working and the cramps go away, then I'm good to go. To be honest though my last periods have been so much easier on me since I lost weight.0

Yes actually today is a perfect example. I was going through some serious cramps but I just took some medicine and toughed it out, eventually the pain went away and I get lazy too but I just think its only for an hour...or 30 mins and I get it done.0

If you have a standard, regular, normal menstrual cycle there is no medical reason to stop working out.
Yoga instructors may recommend you not do 1 or 2 poses, but otherwise, there's no medical reason why not.
If you feel like crap, take a day off, or take a pain reliever and power through.
I find my cramps are better after a good run.0 -
Yes I push through it.....if I don't I am afraid I may start slacking and not get back on my schedule again.0

Yep, nothing stops me from doing my work outs I may not feel like doing them at that time, but I always feel great afterwards.0

Yes, I do. I find it helps, but I usually only get crazy cramps on one day out of the entire period.0

I feel completely exhausted during my period, but some light activity helps the awful lower back cramps that I get. So, yes I do.0

Why wouldn't you? It makes me feel better actually.
Because some of us are pukers. Exertion makes mine 10x worse...0 -
I find it makes me feel better and gets rid of frustration.
Unless the cramps leave me bedridden, then its not exactly safe to take the codeine and go to the gym! (atleast it helps the cramps!)0 -
If it's a heavy one I do a lighter workout usually and work on new healthy recipes but I stay busy.0

I carry on regardless, although I've begun to take a slight deload if I'm feeling weak.
Thankfully the cramps seem to only really spike between sets, so I just take longer rests.0 -
Yeah but my "work out" is walking very briskly a couple of miles or hiking a 30 minute trail. I do that even with cramps. Just take a Midol.
However I do think some women have far heavier, more painful menstruation than I do based on talking with friends.0 -
wow. women do not shut off 1 week out of the month. unless you have a specific medical condition that requires medication preventing you from exertion or physical activity, why would you stop working out or eating correctly? good lord.0

Nope I bleed to heavy. Everyone is different and you need to do what feels right for you.0

Yes, if I can. The only adjustment that I make is during my heaviest flow which are days #2 and often #3. I usually scale it way back on those days due to pain and flow. I admit that if I do opt to proceed rigorously, I load up on Midol and try to workout at home for obvious reasons.0

Absolutely - I find the exercise helps with the discomfort. I take Advil if needed and keep going.0

Both. I listen to my body especially since I'm noticing some changes in my cycle that have to do with my age. I have a habit of getting too lazy and not going back to exercising if I take too much time off from it, however if I'm feeling that bad then I'll give it a miss. Not every month is the same for me right now. If I'm not doubled over or having to change every hour then I try to do something even if I'm cutting the amount of time or number of reps. Remember to be like Dori, just keep moving.0

Ditto. I get cramps so severe that I vomit from the pain. I literally can't do anything except lie down. If I get up to use the bathroom, I vomit on my way there. Over-the-counter painkillers have no effect, so I take a prescription drug to lessen the pain. But I still feel just blahhh when I have cramps. My cramps only last 1 day out of my period though. So on that one day, I just count it as a rest day and skip my workout. I workout on all the other days of my period though. Unless you're in pain, there's nothing wrong with working out on your period.0 -
Yes, I still work out. I just take two ibuprofen if I have to. But normally, I don't. I do hate feeling/looking bloated in my workout clothing, but that's life. :ohwell:0
