Jesus. That poor guy. This story is crazy.

*hears the sound of a whip cracking*

If my GF threw out my cake, she'd need more than a whip.

There's a bowl of fun size 3 Muskateers, Snicker and M&M's on my kitchen counter.
There is a box of Little Debbie Nutty Bars in my pantry.
There's ice cream in my freezer.

But I'm not eating any of it.

    Simple as that.

    Iknowright?

Imagine being told what you can and cannot bring into your own home for your enjoyment later; instead, you keep it in your car and eat it like some kind of desperate (though fortunate to have a vehicle) homeless person. What must that be like?

I live with my fiance, his cousin, and a friend. None of them eat the way I eat, so I feel you and, yes, it's HARD. The best thing I've done so far is arrange my kitchen so my "trigger" foods aren't in plain sight. Out of sight, out of mind. I've had a conversation with them about making sure these things stay hidden, and so far it's worked. You can't stop someone from eating what they love, just like they can't stop you from making the lifestyle changes you want to make. In the end you need to do what's best for you and ask for support. Tell him going out to eat bothers you and you need to limit it. Someone else said it, but communication is definitely key!

You eat healthy in the office. Does everyone eat healthy in the office? Are there donuts occasionally? Do the girls pass around chips or other little snacks to try out? You don't falter there, so don't falter at home. If you can't control yourself around those foods, pretend they aren't yours and that it'd be rude to take it (as I presume you do at work). Go in the bathroom, get naked, look at your body and ask yourself if the food is worth gaining more weight and cancelling out what you've achieved. Drink a lot of water/tea.

One of the weakest muscles for people dieting is the "NO" Muscle. I have the hardest time saying no, but just like any muscle in the body, the "No" muscle can be strengthened. You just have to work at it.

I totally understand what you mean tho. We bought some Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough from my nephew's fundraiser. My husband likes to cook 6 for himself all the time. That is like 1020 calories just for dessert. So far I have been pretty successful with it Especially since I have allowed myself to have a few cookies on Sunday nights.

It makes saying NO during the week that much easier.

I banned junk food from the house. I'm married, so the dynamic is a little different, but the principal is the same. No junk food. Or, he can have junk food in the house only while he is consuming it. No LEFTOVERS!

I'm like you in that I can't resist the junk food. A caring person would understand and not leave the trigger items in the house. Would you leave an open bottle of wine out for an alcoholic to find? NO! That is just cruel.

Last year we ended up with a lot of leftover cake after a graduation celebration. It was a full sheet cake, so it was huge and I couldn't resist it. I pleaded with my husband to throw it away while we were cleaning up after the party. He refused. I kept going back to that damn cake. By the next day I took it upon myself to toss it in the nearest dumpster.

He was mad, but I had consumed 2000 calories of cake in 2 days. It had to go! I showed him my food diary and he was more understanding, sort of. He called me weak willed (yep) and that I needed to grow up and learn restraint. I replied that I did show restraint by throwing out the offending item. If you cannot resist temptation, then eliminate it's source.

So just so you can sleep at night knowing your precious diary doesn't have the evilness of junk in it', you have your husband eat the entire junk food items(box, carton etc)? Because your health is for more important than his? Well thata teach him. And when he gains weight because you make stupid rules, you will come back here and whine about how fat he's gotten. Moderation, not elimination.

I don't understand how it can possibly be easier to exercise the sheer amount of willpower required to control another human being's behavior, or maintain any sort of relationship with the skewed perspective where that even makes sense, vs. the amount of control simply not to put something in your mouth.

The sad part is the former is simply an illusion. The only thing in that entire equation that you actually have the right and ownership of control is yourself, and you're freely giving that up to react to your environment.

Yeah, child obesity in developed countries is at epidemic levels.

God forbid we don't let them stuff themselves with those delicious "treats."

I found that meal planning really helped ease my battle between me trying to lose weight and the tempting delicious things my husband wanted to eat. I planned the majority of our meals and planned pizza night, burger night etc into the works. Pizza is ALWAYS delivery because the "healthy" stuff just doesn't match to the heavan that is junkfood pizza. Burgers were almost always home-made with healthier choices of ingredients, which settled his desire and met my needs. Substitutions don't always work so well, like if he has icecream I can't be satisfied with a bowl of fresh fruit. BUT I did find a recipe for a "milkshake" using non-fat milk, ice cubes and chocolate syrup. I used regular because I found the sugar free just wasn't yummy, but power to you if you do! I would mix these in the blender and drink it while he ate his bowl. Sometimes I'll use milk and chocolate protein powder with a banana if I worked out after dinner and icecream time pops up.
I also learned to forgive myself for slip-ups. Did I eat half a pizza instead of two slices with a salad? Did I enjoy it? As much, if not more than any other joy in recent memory? Yes? Ok, as long as I don't do it every week. I might add an extra set or extra time on the bike but I don't beat myself up for it

I to live with an unhealthy eater. I make sure that I have enough food that I can eat if he is eating unhealthy, and if it is a burger place or fast food, I make it fit into my day. Portion control and will power. When I workout all I can think about is how long it takes me to burn those calories, and if I eat crap how fast they add up. It is a mind thing for me. Good Luck.

because there's no personal responsibility to limit these things. Nope, when in doubt remove the evils!!!!

I guess you didnt read the post very well. Giving your kids fast food everyday and no exercise is the cause of child obesity, not having treats in your house. Maybe you need to look up the meaning of the word "treat"

I was having this problem with my husband. He is the primary cook and he cooks for HIM which isn't healthy. I finally realized I had to cook for ME. So now he cooks for him and our son and i cook for me and my teenage daughter. Every weekend we prep our meals for the week. I'm addicted to sugary sweets and carby breads. If it's there I'm eating it. I would have to ask him to quit buying it or buy in smaller amounts and eat before you get home. Good luck!

Children need to be taught about moderation, not given unnecessary restrictions.

My flatmates a shocker - heavily overweight and exists on junk. After watching me on MFP for 11 months he asked me last week to sign him up with a goal of losing 17 kg by April when he goes overseas. Just goes to show, that you can have a positive influence by doing whats right for you and letting others worry about themselves.

Given her propensity for caving in, I hope she's thorough.
