Thursday Truth- I am staying with in goals but my food has definately not been clean.
Grateful today for my job not matter how frustrating it can be.
I have no advice on TOM haven't had one in 17yrs since going on Depo shot.0 -
@Nettie~I can’t relate to TOM perils anymore, ablation will change your life! But from past experiences, it seems that extra weight during that time hung around for 3-5 days. You are doing everything right. Remember that you are exercising a lot and building muscle which weighs more than fat - one of the reasons it’s so important to take measurements. It also takes time for our bodies to catch up, so one day soon you’ll have a big loss. I know it’s hard, I get frustrated too – hang in there though, you got this! I can completely relate to the picture and self-image issues you’re having – I still hate having my picture taken and selfies look horrible. There are still so many imperfections I see, I think it’s one of the hardest things to overcome during and after weight loss (I think its a test to our mental and emotional prowess). :frown:0

AFM - I got the results of the CT scans today and Dr.Duff wasn't happy and he took me by the hand and got me another CT right that minute!! What a guy!!! The good news - no cancer anywhere. The bad news is - I have a massive fungal infection behind my left eye in my sphenoid sinus that is so bad it has eroded the bone and it is dumping about a pint of pus into my gut every day. This is messing with the nerves in my mouth and triggering those problems. Its very serious and I start 3 weeks of major antibiotics. If those don't work, surgery is an option. It could affect my vision if not treated appropriately.
Also on the CT of throat, they saw a stricture in the back that is blocking my ability to swallow so its off to see a specialist for a procedure to fix that. Don't know when that will take place or what it will involve. Dr. Duff says the fungal infection is whats causing my fatigue and that it will probably take about three months for all these issues to be cleared up.
I'm SO HAPPY I got a second opinion!!!
YIKES!!!!! glad they have some answers now but wow!! How on earth would you get a fungal infection that is so bad. Your poor gut may take some time to adjust to the massive antibiotics so load up on probiotics to take every day with them.
Hope the stricture is a simple thing to fix.0 -
going for a walk in the cold!!0
-
Good morning everyone. First off Robin I am so glad you got a second opinion and hopefully all goes well with your treatment plan. I have caught the nasty cold that has been going around our area. My mom has been fighting it a couple of weeks and then my neice and nephew had it last week and now my son and I both woke up with it on Tuesday. I am so proud of my son because he is really very sick sounding but because he is still on probation with his new job he hasnt tried to call out. He has gone in and just done the best he could.
So I think today I am going to be grateful I dont own my own house. I am running a test right now making sure everyhting is shut tight and sealed well but I think my fridge has probably bit it. Because I rent that is not going to smack me in the head the month of christmas thank goodness.
Other then the cold things in Tammy land are going fine. My eating hasnt been perfect but is getting closer to the consistency I had before. I was doing well with the walking up until this week but it is highs in the mid 30's right now and just to cold for me for a long walk. I know thats what the bike is for and I am going to get on it today so stop nagging
Anyway I hope everyone has a safe and happy day and I will cya all tomorrow. :flowerforyou: :drinker:0 -
Thursday Truth: I ate WAY too much over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and did not log every bite and morsel. Hence, the reason I gained 6 lbs. I didn’t adjust my tracker because I knew I would get too depressed. Luckily, I got my calories under, been exercising like mad and those 6 lbs are off. Plus, I was able to post a 2 lb loss and the tracker is finally accurate going forward. Woo Hoo!!!
@ Lives2Travel – No matter what age our children are we will always be a mother and we will know our children are out in the world somewhere. I’m with you on the Christmas decorations. HATE the process, but LOVE the results.
@ Pyro – I think your Wednesday wish is something many of us would second – no laundry and no calories in adult beverages. Yes, please!! Hope your daughter was OK when she got home.
@ Nettie – I’ve got a couple of friends whose kids have autism. We were swimming one summer and one of the boys is about 5 years older than my son, Cyrus. I’ve explained to Cyrus some of the reasons Charles does the things he does. Well, one time they were playing in the pool and Cyrus started to hang on his shoulders just for fun. Charles freaked out and grabbed Cyrus around the neck shouting “I’m going to kill you!” His mom and I immediately jumped to action. Cyrus knew Charles didn’t mean it, but we had to remind him again Charles doesn’t like sudden movements. It takes very special people who are called to work with our children with special needs. They are lucky to have you.
As far as TOM, don’t get me started. I’ve had to accept my weight loss is not steady. I lose big the first week after my cycle, which is right now. I will then lose or maintain 1 lbs over the next 2-3 weeks then the week prior or of my cycle I will gain 1-2. Over the past 4 months, I’ve lost an average of 6-8 lbs per month. This averages 1.5-2 lbs per week, but that’s not how it really nets out. Plus, I had some plateaus/maintaining in there too. This is why I try to not focus on the daily/weekly totals, but what I did for the month.
@ Kat5343 – Welcome!! I’m doing a 5K this Saturday too called the Great Santa Run here in Las Vegas. My son and I did it last year too with over 10,000 participants. We’ll walk most of it, but I’ll try to run some. It’s going to be chilly though so I need to prepare for that.
@ Lonnie – Welcome!! I’ve started to follow the Paleo/Primal eating method as well. I don’t follow it 100%, but try to come close. It seems to keep me full longer and the scale is slowly moving again. Good luck on your driving test!!! For someone who has been driving for 30 years it will become second nature before you know it.
@ Tina – Loved your story! I know it wasn’t probably a comfortable situation, but I love to hear when people step up. I know there are good people out there that far outweigh the evil. Hope your back starts to feel better.
@ Kaye – How old is your dad? It’s those little things they do that make us thankful. I’m so glad he’s hanging in there.
@ Laurie – What a wonderful tradition! I have never heard of the garden before, but it sounds like a wonderful memory. I know schools been busy as you wind down before the Christmas break. Plus, getting ready for Christmas throws everything in a loop. Are you climbing tomorrow night? I know you’ve missed the gym the past few nights, but go climb. It will get you back in the mood.
@ Nicole – I’m so happy for you. Your post sounds like you're really happy with the trainer, cheapo gym, etc. . . Good for you!!! I know you’ll do great on your finals. Once you have a break you can relax, enjoy the gym and just get yourself ready for the New Year! You’re doing AWESOME!!!
@ Kelly – Our high was only 29 this morning, which is chilly for Vegas. We’ll only get up in the high 30’s. I’m not complaining that’s for sure compared to our friends in North Dakota and all those other blistering states. Always better to be prepared though. Either way you’ll have good eats!!
@ Queen – Good job staying within your goals. This is part of the journey now you tackle eating cleaner. I’ve been focusing more on my macros and keeping those in line, which leans toward clean foods. Plus, my trainer has me eating more good fats, which is hard to accept too. I’ve been so focused on low fats, but for me right now that’s not what was working so we’re trying a different direction. You can do it!!!!
@ KarenLeona – You go girl!!! In the cold too??!! Good for you!0 -
Hi everyone! I am new to this board. Been on and off the weight loss wagon so many times, I have lost track. But, thankfully, as of yesterday, I am back on. Just looking for as much accountability as I can get, since that is what seems to drive me.
I also have a plan with my wonderful doc to check in with her every two weeks for awhile. About three years ago, I was able to lose weight from 251 lbs down to 200 lbs. I was in an office contest and 3x week workout group. When I changed jobs, I lost my motivation. Now three years later I have gained it all back plus five pounds. Starting all over again.
So, I am starting at 256 and my goal is 150 with an evaluation at that point to see if I need to go any lower. The number 135 sticks in my head but I don't know if that is reasonable or not. So we will wait and see.
Oh, I almost forgot....My name is Lisa. I am 45 years old with three boys, 24, 20 and 18. My oldest son is living in California living his dream and my two youngest are off to college. I have an amazing life partner and he and I have two dogs and one cat together. (OK so the cat is really mine. lol) We live in Colorado and like to go camping (RV) and fishing. He is also struggling with weight issues but we hope to get healthy together. I am also about to become a grandma through his daughter. She is due in January and we are excited about that. I have an office job in which I sit at a desk all day, but I love job and the company that I work for. Not really helpful for weight loss. I am actually considering using a standing desk for part of the day at least.
Well, that is really about it. I look forward to talking to all of you.
Thanks,
Lisa0 -
Today I am thankful for the fact that my family has not forgotten the true meaning/reason for Christmas. It's all to easy to get caught up in the commercialism of Christmas (and don't get me wrong, we enjoy those parts too). Our Christmas music encompasses both secular and non-secular songs (listening to Classic Christmas on my phone as I type), my kids are always asking for money to give to the bell ringers, they both enthusastically volunteered to be a part of the Christmas program at church and Jacob has volunteered to play for services both the weekend before Christmas as well as two services on Christmas Eve. My Christmas Eve has always begun with my Dad (and then my brother) reading the Christmas Story from the Bible and that is a tradition we plan to carry on.
@Kaye...I'm so glad to hear that your dad has been able to transition well to his new living arrangements.
@Laurie...I'm German but apparently it was a tradition that was never kept in our family. Sounds wonderful!
@Nace...good luck with finals.:flowerforyou:
@Karen...I was one of 7 in my graduating class. I would have loved to have the opportunity of AP classes when I was in school. As a teacher, it sounds like a very rewarding set of classes. And I hope legislators pull their heads out of their ..... before too much damage is done.
@Holly...My husband asked around at work and there is a group in a nearby town that will answer kid's Santa letters and send them a letter with the North Pole "stamp" on it. He's sending Emma's letter tomorrow. That should add at least another year of believing, right?
@Kelley...I'll take lots of inches of snow over two inches of ice. If you have to go out, be very careful!
@Nettie...No advise for TOM...I dont' remember who said it, but ablation made me a happier person every month.
@Susan...glad those quick 6 pounds on were quick off too, plus an additional 2 pounds -- whoo hoo!!
AFM: I FINALLY SAW THE SCALE MOVE DOWN!!! I saw a slight gain from my Vegas trip, got back to normal. Then had a slight gain from Thanksgiving. Today, I am one pound down from a month ago and actually at the lowest I've been since starting MFP. Now to keep it going.
Tonight, Emma has her 2nd grade music program (the bonus is that it's also a Christmas program!!). She's very excited because she has a line during the play. I will also do my lifting tonight with my sis. The best part is that the Sound of Music Live is on tonight. I have the DVR set and so help me -- if my husband messes with it, I will smack 'im. :blushing: We should be good as I've only got the one program recording so he can watch whatever he wants (Saints are on tonight!).
Hope you all have a great Thursday!!

My gratitude today is for an awesome job. As many of you know, I moved last April from Atlanta to Las Vegas. I left a job (Arby's) where I was at for 12 years. I worked my way up from a Coordinator to a Sr. Manager. I moved 2,000 miles away to take a chance in a new field in the casino/hotel world. I thought I was making it work, but realized I just wasn't happy. The purchasing is just too cut throat and it's all about finding the lowest price and not working with vendors to build your brand. Yes, price is important, but there are so many other factors. Luckily, a new company found me and I started with Capriotti's Sandwich Shop as their Director of Supply Chain and Quality Assurance. December 18th will be 10 months and I couldn't be any happier. I'm so thankful for an amazing job, great co-workers, an amazing company plus a 15 minute commute!!!!0

My gratitude for today is for my home and neighborhood. As I grumbled through the Christmas decorating, it hit me that so many don't have homes to decorate. We bought this house 3 years ago and I love it as much as I did the day we closed. It's the perfect place for us and I'm also grateful for the great neighbors (and now friends) we've gained. This place had truly been a blessing in my life.0

Thursday truth. Today I reset my goals and changed my activity level from sedentary to reflect my increased activity. I will no longer be trying to register my daily routine housework as exercise. I also changed my weight-loss goal to half pound a week. I have been feeling a bit frustrated lately with my food and exercise. I hope this will help
Second truth. I gained 5# over the holiday. I have lost enough of it now to be within my normal 1-2# fluctuation. Susan, I think its great that you have lost the holiday weight plus some. My dad will be 95 next month.
Today I am thankful for my sister and her family who are taking care of my dad. They are going to put up a Christmas tree for him decorated with homemade ornaments from the great grandchildren. I'm really grateful for people who have such good ideas.
I've been following with interest the stories of those of you who are working with children with special needs. I have 2 nephews with special needs. One of my daughters works as a PSR part time and part time in the resource room with special needs kids at our primary school. It is such a hard job, but can be so rewarding.
Have a great day. Kaye0 -
Nettie- My experience with TOM, I usually lose weight the week before about a 1 lb a day. The a day or two after it starts I gain the weight back plus a pound or two. Then it takes about a week or so to lose it again. Just remember that it is not a true weight gain it is water weight and your body will eventually get rid of it. Just keep doing what you are doing and stick with it, your body will catch up when it is ready.
Kelley and everyone else in the path of the winter storm- I hope you are staying safe, warm and you maintain power throughout the storm.
Susan- I am planning on climbing tomorrow night and you are right I will find my motivation again. I did make it to the gym tonight so it felt good to workout for a little while.
Karen- I hope the state figures out your pension system. I know MD is trying or has pushed the cost of the pension to the counties instead of the sate.
Welcome to all the new people- You have stumbled across the best kept secret on MFP. Come back and post often and you will get to know a great group of people.
The tree and garden are done and I will post pictures this weekend.
I am thankful for regaining a little extra time and how things just align to allow you to accomplished more than planned. Yesterday, I was able to get my hair trimmed (aka-the frizzes had to go) and it was suppose to be done today. Today, I went to the park to decorate the wagons for Saturday and they were already done. Needless, to say I was able to make it to the gym by 4:30 so I worked out for an hour. It felt great. I worked on my running form and I was amazed at the speed I was able to pick up. Tomorrow, it is rock climbing and Saturday will be busy day with the hay ride. I may wear my HRM monitor just to see how many calories I burn but then again I will be nibbling most of the morning.
Truth I felt very guilty about missing the gym 2 days in a row. I need to give myself to enjoy life and not feel guilty about missing a couple of nights. It actually gave my body a much needed rest and time to repair itself. Yes, my knees are bruised from climbing the last couple of weeks. I always manage to find something to bang my knee into or on.0 -
Hi Everyone, My name is Jackie and I am a newbie-to the site but not the struggle of weight loss. I have been fighting this battle for a very long time and I am so tired of looking in the mirror and being sad. I want to dance in a dressing room when the clothes I want fit me, I want to get on a scale (threw it out a year ago because it was a viscous battle that drove me nuts) and be pumped about reaching my goal. I want to teach my 7 year old not to make the choices that I have and what it means to feed your body well. I want to treat my body with respect and wake up each day energized, alive and happy to see the woman in the mirror.
A little about me - I was addicted to cross fit, started last January, was doing really well, eating Paleo and I threw my back out. Then I threw it out again and again. For a 43 year old woman, I thought I was pretty strong but I struggled losing the weight and having my back be so weak, really sent me in a tailspin. Then Halloween came and I ate chocolate -that will help. It didn't. My back started to feel better, I started to run again. I happen to be an over achiever at everything I do so what do I do, run at 7.5 miles per hour and a 3 incline. Yup, threw that back out again. Now I am walking and driving myself nuts as I am stressed that I am not doing enough, its not going to come off. Breathe...
Thursday-I am thankful for the support and love of my family, they bring me joy every single day.
My weekend fitness goal is to go to the gym and walk at 4.5 on a varied incline for 45 minutes, 50 crunches and yoga stretches. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Week goals:
Gym 3 times for the week-walk run at no more than 5.5 (varied)
Logging my food every day.
Increase my fiber to 25 grams per day
No alcohol
1 cup of coffee a day
I look forward to getting to know all of you0 -
Hi guys! Welcome to the newlings!! :flowerforyou:
@laurie--can't wait to see the pictures! I sometimes get the same way about missing my workouts. Today is a prime example--I skipped going to lift b/c I was tired and had a lot of grading. :ohwell: As far as the pensions go, it's really a mess. The state is trying to push it off on the school districts, but that just means the teachers end up paying the price. The only way the districts can absorb the cost is through lower wages and larger class sizes. The result is less quality teachers in the classrooms, and ultimately the students pay the price with a sub standard education. Also, with less extra-curriculars parents and their kids will end up paying more for college b/c their will be less opportunities for scholarships. This is all b/c the state "borrowed" nearly 50 billion $ from our fund and mismanaged it to the tune of another 50 billion. They want the teachers to pay it all back which is completely unfair b/c the entire population of IL benefited from the "loan" that makes up nearly half of the deficit. I keep telling my husband that if they take away my pension he should start packing b/c I will leave public education and go teach abroad. I'm sure I won't get rich doing that either, but at least I'll get to see the world.
@kaye--I hope your activity and calorie adjustments work out well. :flowerforyou:
@lives--I agree whole-heartedly! My DH complains about our house all the time--it's old and things always seem to be breaking. But I have to remind him that he's lucky to have a house.
@susan--I'm so glad this job is working out for you. As someone who loves my own job, I hate seeing people struggle in jobs they don't like. I would rather make less money doing something I love, than slave away at a horrible job or with terrible co-workers for all of the money in the world.
@tracy--I also lacked opportunity to take AP courses. Not b/c my school was small (it was about 2000 students), but b/c Chicago Public Schools didn't place an emphasis on AP when I was a student. I think there were only 2 AP courses offered and both were by the same teacher who took it upon himself to offer the curriculum within his larger classes.
@kelley--I was NOT one of those nerdy students. According to gorilla I was a stoner b/c I listened to Jane's Addiction. Seriously though, I loved to read but otherwise I was not fond of school work.
Thursday Truth:
Ugh--another carbtastic day for me. A colleague brought snacks for her birthday today, and I ended up eating way too many snacks. So much so, that my breakfast and lunch I brought for today are both still sitting in the fridge waiting for tomorrow. :blushing:
I did get some grading done, so that's something. :ohwell:
Almost forgot my gratitude post! :noway: I'm grateful for my dad who has always been there for me. He worked hard as a public servant--in the US Navy for 42 years and also as a City of Chicago and State of IL employee once he went into the reserves. He taught me that if you work hard at something you enjoy doing, you will be relatively happy. He was right!

Friday fitness - I've been sticking to my Gilad routine and loving the new changes that this week brought. Yesterday I really felt the burn while doing my routine. I thought I would feel some aches and pains today but I don't.
I went back to the eye doctor yesterday and they were so nice about my glasses. The man helping me said when the lenses are cut to fit the frames they are clamped in a machine. The scratches I was seeing was actually an imprint that the machine left. He put in a rush order to have new lenses made for me and I should have them within a week. I am grateful that I didn't have to fight with them and they were apologized for the error.
Last night my husband brought a surprise for me from his boss. I have been wanting to get an iPad for s while now that I can use for work with my students. It came up in conversation at his job yesterday. As there is talk to change over the operating systems to android is. His boss mentioned he had an android tablet in his office that was just sitting there. His boss gave it to my husband and told him to give it to me. I get to test out the system for them And have to return it when I am done. I am grateful for the generosity of his boss to allow me to use the tablet with my students.
Thanks everyone who responded to my question. I appreciate your input.
Laurie, what you described is exactly what I am experiencing. I didn't weigh-in last Monday due to it. I was hoping to be able to weighing this Monday but so far it doesn't look like that is happening either. :frown:
Welcome Lisa and Jackie!
Tracy - I love your Christmas Eve tradition. That is nice that you still carry it on. I think traditions are important. Years ago I was in one of my undergrad classes and we were discussing cultural differences and family traditions. My professor asked who had a family tradition that they do. I was the only one in my class who raised their hand and had something to share. I felt bad for my classmates that they didn't have that connection to their ancestors and didn't have something to pass down to future generations. I treasure the traditions that my family has and plan on passing them down to future generations.
Susan - that is great that you are happy with your current place of employment.
Kaye - I love handmade ornaments. My cousin's sons always make me one for Christmas. They typically aren't the most beautiful ornaments on the tree but they mean so much to me. I also like to make ornaments. One of my hobbies is working with clay. I design one ornament a year then make a bunch and give out as gifts. One of the recipients was my parents neighbor. When she passed her nephew was cleaning out her house and came across a box that was marked "Jeanette's ornaments, extremely fragile." Inside the box was every ornament carefully wrapped in tissue paper. Her nephew returned them the box to me and I put them out every year in her memory.0 -

I've been up for 2 hours with a headache - nervous one, not migraine. Have a mammogram at 1 pm, and I'm just SICK of these darn tests !!!! And my odds haven't been great, so nervous about it. Need to get through it and know everything is OK with the girls.
Gratitude: For a highschool chum who has folunteered to take the responsibility of our High School Reunion off my shoulders. I was folling dreadfully behind on the planning and this wonderful classmate volunteered to take on the responsibility. The kindness of people is just amazing!
For the great man Nelson Mandela.0 -
Today I am thankful for the fine arts taught in school. I believe in a well rounded child and that includes sports and fine arts. It makes me sad that some schools don't get these programs. This is Emma from last night's 2nd grade music program. We happen to be the class that got to do a Christmas themed one. She was a reindeer and had two lines that she delivered clearly and loudly. It was cute. Emma is the one on the right in the black and white dress.

Greetings from the frozen tundra!
Its been sleeting and freezing rain since last night, actually took me an hour to get home from work. This morning my alley is a sheet of ice and my boss called a little while ago saying he was staying home. I decided to wait until the sun came up, its really treacherous so I'm not risking the commute either - staying in the warmth of my house. Trains could have been an option but they are shut down too. Luckily this is Texas and this type of weather doesn't happen often or last long.
I'm thankful today that I have the warmth of my house, there are about 250k without power right now and its growing thanks to the ice accumulating on trees and power lines.
@Nettie~How awesome that you get to test the tablet with your students, that's great.
@Robin~Good luck with your mammogram today, hope you feel better.
@Tracy~So cute, how fun! :happy:

Janette. I love that your husbands boss was so generous. The homemade decorations really touched me. I love traditions.
Love the cute little reindeer. Those experiences build great memories.
Kah-stay safe. I hope you don't lose your power.
Robin good luck today.
My kids aren't even here yet so I will wait until later to do gratitude entry. Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
Happy Frozen Friday to Most!!!
I am getting as much walking as possible in before I leave work because the temps are below zero for the weekend with windchill below zero only walking I will get done is from upstairs to downstairs in the house.
I am grateful today for the compassionate heart God gave me towards others and animals. I also love my puppy so much eventhough he is testing my nerves.
@Kah68- Hope is all okay with you and the storm. My friend that moved to TX said she has seen 3 car ports destroy cars today by falling on them.
@Robin- Best wishes on the doctor visit today
@Nettie- God bless the man who gave you the tablet I love hearing those stories. Glad the glasses worked out well. I am the opposite I look in the mirror big at current weight 254 love what I see. Last year at this time I was 245 and I hated what I looked like both weights are down from the 260 I started at.
@Ihall80031- Welcome I have been on and off the wagon since my joined date. I am around your weight close to age and a almost 18 yr old. I need to lose 100lbs per doctor that would still me at over weight but to me I would be skinny.
@Tlh0407- Love the idea your hubby found for the santa letter. I never taught my son to believe in Santa rather I taught him basically the true meaning of the holiday. I love the family tradition you talked about. Emma is so cute.
@Susan- I am glad your big life adventure in Vegas has worked out so well for you.
@Laurie- I am glad you took time to enjoy life and give your body a rest.0 -
Pyro- i also have insomnia. sometimes due to stres and sometimes due to pain. Night before last i did not sleep at all so last night i took half a sleeping pill and did not get up till 11 am :grumble: I need to sleep but also need to get something done during the day. I tend to be nocturnal anyway so it is a fine balance
My DIL texted me this morning that they were out of milk for her coffee but it was too cold to take the kids out to the store....it is -35 C.
way too cold!!!
gonna hit the gym this afternoon then have a pampered chef party at my niece"s new place. Gonna make sure i eat before i go so i am not tempted by the goodies they make0 -
Hi all, I'd love to join this thread. I pretty well have exactly 100lbs I'd like to lose. My exercise program is starting off slow because I want to start to enjoy it rather than hate it after 3 days lol. So I've been doing around 20-25 mins on elliptical and 20 mins of weight training.
My husband's going away for the weekend so it's just my boy and I which will hopefully make it easier for good eating. Except we're supposed to do Christmas baking. I'll have to keep lots of caramel rice cakes on hand lol0 -
Hi guys!
I did okay at school today with food, but came home to Chinese take away--definitely my downfall! So yummy, but too many calories. :ohwell: I didn't end up going to the Christkindl Fest--it's way too cold and my friend who planned it couldn't stay out long, so we just went to our regular Friday bar and had few drinks.
Welcome to the newlings! :flowerforyou:

Nothing new for me. Only lifted once this week, but I at least did cardio on wednesday. Will hit the gym hard this weekend in between grading. At least Bears are Monday night so I don't have to fit in football this weekend too.

Today my food log really looks pathetic but I did stay under my new calorie goal. Fitness is really hard when it is so cold outside. I did do the pedaler yesterday, but it isn't much of a workout.
I agree with Karen that Mandela was a remarkable person.
I am grateful for a warm home. We may get some snow tonight but just don't get ice storms around here. The wind chill factor was bitter today, though.
Have a great weekend. Kaye0 -
The cold and stormy weather is on it's way to me. We are looking for winter's blast starting Sunday and going into Monday. Who knows, the freezing rain/sleet could close schools on Monday. Yes, schools in MD close for snow so there are times we just want a snow day. I have plenty of grading to do during the bad weather. I took Monday off because my Dad had a doctors appointment and Mom did not want to take him alone. Then she washed the weather forecast and opted to cancel/move the appointment to next Monday. I opted to keep the day off that ways I can get some shopping done for the holidays and a novel idea of just relaxing.
Tomorrow is the Jingle Bell Hayride so I will be busy and moving from 8 to 1pm plus a trip to the grocery store with everyone and their uncles.
I will catch up more tomorrow, when I am not sleep walking.0 -
Friday Fitness: I'm really pleased with this weeks activities and the scale is going down FINALLY!!!!!
Sunday - great 4 mile walk outside
Monday - doubled up due to Thanksgiving eating. HIT elliptical in the AM and trainer in the PM
Tuesday - elliptical/treadmill
Wednesday - HIT elliptical/treadmill
Thursday - rest day
Friday - elliptical/treadmill
Tomorrow Cyrus and I are supposed to do the Great Santa Run 5K down on Freemont Street, but we're having super cold weather too. We're not negative of course, but our high this morning was in the 20's. For Vegas, that's COLD. I'm still debating. I already paid the registration and gave a donation. It's going to a great cause, Opportunity Village, which helps adults with special needs. My uncle has cerebral palsy and cannot hear or talk. I've always tried to support organizations who help those special people.
Today I'm thankful for those workers like Nettie who have such a big heart and work with folks (young and old) with disabilities. I know the people in my life have such big hearts and just want to learn and be loved like the rest of us.0 -
Saturday success - I made it through the new week of my routine. I just have today's workout to do. I ended up calling in sick to work yesterday because I was having really bad stomach pains. It felt like my stomach was on fire and I was so uncomfortable. I spent most of the day lounging on the couch and watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel. Around 5 I was feeling completely lazy and gross so I decided to workout. I felt better after the workout so I ate dinner with the hubby. Shortly after my stomach began to hurt again so I ended up just going to bed. I hope I am not coming down with a stomach virus. So far this morning I am feeling ok. I hope it stays that way. Last night started ****ens Festival in town. It runs the entire weekend and is so much fun. I would really like to go tonight.
Brian asked for a weight set for Christmas so I bought it for him. It was delivered yesterday. Someone hand wrote on the box "VERY HEAVY!!!" - they weren't kidding. I couldn't pick it up to bring it into the house. I had to open it up outside and bring it in piece by piece. I got creative and wrapped it in several separate bundles so I could lift it and put under the tree. While I had the wrapping paper out I decided to wrap the few gifts that I had already bought for my mom and brother.
Mnwalking - I actually like what I see when I look in the mirror. To me I look smaller. I can see a difference in my tush and hips. I can also see a slight change in my arms if I flex. When I take a selfie and look at it, it seems like a completely different image than what I see in the mirror. I can't wait to get to the point when I don't hate pictures of myself.
Karen- Wow that is really cold. Where does she live that it gets that cold?
100over- Welcome. I think it is great that you are starting off slow. I did the same too. I find when I try to make too many changes at once it is too overwhelming for me which leads to frustration and failure. I gradually added more goals in as I progressed. Best of luck to you.
Skinnyjeanz- I love the Nelson Mandela quote!
Laurie - I hope you enjoy that day off and get a lot accomplished. Schools in NY close for snow too depending on how bad it is. Last year's blizzard had us closed for a few days, it was a really bad storm. It took the town 3 days to come plow my street. :noway:
Susan - I hope it is not too cold for your Santa Run. That sounds like a lot of fun. Does everyone dress of like Santa? In NY we have Santacon. I have never been but I have a few friends who go every year. http://nycsantacon.com/what-is-santacon/
Thank you for the gratitude post for people working in the field like I am. It means a lot to me.0 -
KarenLeona - wow 35 below - that is incredibly cold! I sympathize with your DIL's running out of milk for her coffee - I keep both powdered creamer (hate it) and cans of sweetened condensed milk on hand for such winter emergencies I love my milk in my coffee so bad!
100Over - welcome - and you're going to do just fine on your journey - its not a race. Its a slow, comfortable stroll. Don't worry if you trip over a few things. Good luck with your Christmas baking!
Skinny - great quote from Nelson Mandela.
Kaye - it is tough to exercise inside. Maybe its time to explore some mild exercises on You Tube, but I'm not the one to recommend any except Leslie Sansone - who does walking in place.
Laurie - I hope you own long underwear - you're going to need it. The cold is here and I wore mine to my Drs. appt yesterday - it took me forever to get undressed there! Hope you have a great time relaxing Monday.
Susan - whether you go on the run or not, at least you contributed financially - thats wonderful! (And I think 20 degrees is cold too!)
Jeanette - I hope your stomach pains go away and you are NOT coming down with a virus! I love what you did with wrapping the weight set individually. That same thing happened to me when I ordered my weights - they were delivered outside my door and I couldn't lift the box - had to open it right there and bring in one weight at a time. Boy did I feel puny!.
AFM: Got my mammo yesterday and will have the results in a week or so. Thought I was going to get them the same day - darn it!. Well good things come to those that wait, right?
I am grateful for the cold because it symbolizes the changes of the seasons and that means the earth is doing what its supposed to be doing and everything is right in the natural world.0 -
Day 2 of being stranded at home due to the ice and extreme cold (22 at my house, extreme for Texas) - I wanted to venture to the store for a couple of things to make some soup but my alley is a sheet of ice and I have an incline out of my garage/driveway, so decided it was a bad idea (don't want to end up going through someone's garage). None of the neighborhood roads have been treated so they are a sheet of ice as well, its too dicey to risk. There are some people that have been stranded on one of the highways for 12+ hours, hopefully there will be a rescue effort today. Things won't have a chance to start melting until tomorrow afternoon. I was without power for several hours yesterday, so I'm grateful today to have power and heat back. Some are still without power - say it won't be fully restored in the area until Monday. Thank goodness for lots of warm blankets yesterday and kitty that loves to snuggle!
One problem I've found is that I've made pot of coffee after pot of coffee, so I've been drinking coffee all day long. I'm drinking it more than water. I guess its good that I drink it black at least.
@Susan~Hope it wasn't too cold for you to venture out for your 5k today.
@Nettie~Glad you are feeling better today.0 -
Today I am grateful to have the necessities of life. We are not, and never have been wealthy, but we have what we need. There are so many who don't.
I've got to help DH dig through the storeroom and find the Christmas decorations. We need to get the outside lights up, but I'm not going to put up the inside decorations until DD is out of school for the holiday. I don't want to battle the kids over the Christmas tree. Just lazy I guess.
Have a great day. Kaye0
