Cardio is from the outside in, and lifting is from the inside out.
Start from your core.
You will always gain weight when you start lifting or doing any complete core exercise, but it's more beneficial to your body, and you will always lose inches. I recommend when lifting that you do with a trainer so you are aware of the muscles you're building because you can sculpt with lifting as well.
Think of it this way. Do you want to be 145 lbs of fit, or 145 of just cardio. The results are astounding.
I'm actually rejoining a gym on Monday to get started on lifting again, as all my work at home is mainly core and cardio.0 -
I started lifting in March 2012. I use a combination of free weights and machines. I lift as heavy as I can and either do biceps, triceps, shoulders, back or chest plus legs with one or two of those. I only do one per workout and spend 30-45 minutes lifting per session.

I have lost 35lbs over the past few years by jogging, swimming, biking, rock climbing, and P90x.
But I could never quite tone up my love handles, back or stomach, even after doing P90X through THREE times!
And then came weight lifting...
I have GAINED 5lbs since the "before" photos and have increased a pant size. Can't say I mind though!0 -
Very inspirational! You ladies look amazing!!0

I started out doing HIIT and reached a plateau. It's been almost 1 month since I have been concentrating on only weight lifting. Upper body (dumbells) weighted squats, deadlifts, lunges. I have seen awesome results! Here is a link to my FB page. I progress pic's there if you are interested. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Fit-Life/4668316067611940

Hello! About a year of lifting. Scale has gone down about 10lbs but I see way more of a difference than I did when I lost that much before lifting! I was a cardio queen before but now I do a healthy mix of both and eat MORE!

10 lbs?? That is awesome results!
Thanks for sharing everyone! I am about a month in for NRL4W and I am really trying to focus on inches lost rather than pounds and it is such a hard thing to do! But this has helped re-inforce the fact that it truely is inches lost, and how your feel rather than the number on the scale! Thank you!
Good luck to everyone in your continued fitness goals!!0 -
I love going through this post. You all are phenomenal!0
