For me, *this* is why WEIGHTS over CARDIO is KEY!

great job!!! so happy for you i need to get my butt to the gym.0
-
That's why I'm joining you as from tomorrow...Ive heard enough of people telling me I will look like a man while I'm fat like an elephant.0
-
You look great! You progress is amazing! Don't get hung up by the numbers!0
-
Thanks! someone reminded me that, if a MAN had gotten those DEXA results, he'd have thought "callibration is obviously OFF", tossed them away, and gotten on with his day....
So, yes, there's something WRONG with me INTERNALIZING what really is "static data". (Just like the scale right? Is 150 lbs "overweight"?? Well, I guess that depends on if you are 6' tall or you are 5' tall, right?)
Anyway, thanks for the support - I remain happy with my progress. I acknowledge there's more 'work' to do (I've never said otherwise!). And I'm happy to carry on with:
1. eating at a calorie-deficit to lose bodyfat; and
2. lifting heavy things to change bodyshape.
The end.0 -
Thanks for sharing! Super inspired. Please--what does the acronym mean in the description of your workout?0
-
Wow!! Great Job!! You look awesome!!0

I AM 32.7% BODYFAT!
Ugggghhhhh.
5' 8 3/4" this morning and 146.6 lbs on the DEXA scale stuff.
And, yep, I am 32.7% BODYFAT - even my *lean* torso is not that f*cking lean - 28.6%. Each leg is 40%.
Sooooooooooo, I was HOPING I wasn't "30%" - for 2+ YEARS I've been aiming for "20%". And, in fact, I am 32.7% BODYFAT.
I am feeling AWFUL about myself right now - will perk up tomorrow (I also had my flu shot, today).
Unbelievable how DELUSIONAL I have been.
Also, totally UNBELIEVABLE what the "naked eye" sees, compared to a DEXA. Just sayin'....
(Can you IMAGINE what percentage I was at in my "before" photo??? Must have been close to 50-friggin'-per cent bodyfat!!"
Huh? What the h*ll are you beating yourself up for? Who cares what some stupid machine says.
The most important things are 1) you look great in clothes and 2) you look great naked. (hey - I'm shallow!)
You have done a lot of great work to get to where you are. What does a machine know about that??
I got measured by a bf measuring machine back in March. I was (at the time) 5'7" and 148 lbs. And it came back with 24.5% BF.
Get back to the gym and lift something. You'll feel better.0 -
Quirky - which acronym are you specifically referring to....I recognize I use a lot (too many?) of 'em!
mousemom18 - I appreciate that thoughts. I have now firmly moved off a "bodyfat % #" as my "goal" and am working to put good systems in place - and focus on the systems.
I really do want to focus on inputs (i.e. what I am eating and what exercises I am doing) and leave the outputs alone - but it takes practice! I'm not perfect...0 -
Great transformation.0

On the left-hand side is me, after 25+ YEARS as a cardio-gym rat.
Yes, I still do SOME cardio, but my exercise-focus is on lifting heavy free weights.0 -
You have a killer body!!! I'm glad I woke up to the benefits of weight lifting early onto my weightloss journey. It's the best way to shape up0
-
Thanks, all - you are very kind.

Bump! This is some great info....
Thanks! :flowerforyou:0 -
Here is my year-over-year (from end-of-January, 2013 to end-of-January, 2014).
NOTE: my scale weight didn't change much. My measurements didn't change much. But, to me, you can clearly see that my BODYSHAPE is different. I think, but am unclear, that this demonstrates "recomp".
AND HERE, is what I look like when "dressed" in FINE FABRICS (this is a Vera Wang sample - size 8! - photo taken January 31, 2014 on my way to a formal gala)....I don't intend to do "bikini" shots, anymore. I NEVER wear bikinis and so, it seems MORE appropriate, to me, to take photos in outfits that hi-light my GOOD features and downplay my NOT-SO-GOOD features....

I am 5'9" tall....but with THOSE (FABULOUS! PURPLE!) heels, in the above picture I'm grazing about 6'2"....0

WOW!!!!!!!!! You look amazing - Well done!!!
Just goes to show its all about lifting and not so much cardio!!!!!!!0 -
awesomeness!!0

You look amazing!!! Can you please share what your routine was for the lower body?? I would love to incorporate that into my routine!0
-
Thanks for sharing. I think that all women should work out with heavy weights but it is especially important as you get older (I'm 51). Cardio is important for stamina and heart health but if you want to get your *kitten* off the back of thighs and continue to wear sleeveless clothes (no batwings) weights are the way to go. You look great and are inspiring me to work out harder!0
-
Thanks, ladies!
claudie08 - if you read through this thread, the work-outs (always full-body, I don't do any splits!) that I did are all listed!
BOOM!0 -
I am currently doing a full repeat of Venus Advanced Strength Series, Modules 1 thru 4.....each module is four weeks worth of workouts.0

Congrats! I have never lifted weights!0

Sunshine2plus ~ I hope you add some resistance-training into your fitness regimen! It really HELPS!

Inspiring... Thank you for the post. You look great!0

You look amazing. My fiance is always trying to get me to lift with him but I preferred cardio because I thought it would help me loose faster. After seeing your results I think I'm going to take him up on that offer!0

You look amazing! Love the visual proof that lifting is key!0
-
You look fantastic!
I just started lifting weights ~ 5 weeks ago and am excited to see how I progress. I took pics and measurements and will hopefully have a post like this in due time...
Best wishes in your future goals :drinker:0 -
This keeps me motivated to keep on lifting. Sometimes I have to remind myself that lifting will pay off in the long run. You look great!0

You look amazing! Excellent dedication! I totally see a difference between the 2 shots.
Love your dress! You look very elegant.0 -
