I didn't realize that Twilight was critically acclaimed.

That said, it sure did give big names to some really terrible actors. I just watched the new Hercules movie and it was F**KING AWFUL. The lead might as well have been played by a rock.

    Kristen Stewart
    Kellan Lutz
    Robert Patterson

I've seen them as leads in different movies and I just sit there shaking my head. Rocks, all of them have acting ability that is equal to or less than that of a rock.

    There Will Be Blood.

I thought it was terrible, and the musical score set my teeth on edge for the entire 158 minutes.

Don't Hate but Frozen - Just LIKE Every other Friggin Disney/Pixar Movie just with a Sisterly bond vs. Guy/Girl, Prince/Commoner, Princess/Commoner Theme - DON'T get the Hype

Precious - SNOOZE Fest - ugh rented it hoping it was at least decent, BORING as Sin!

Water for Elephants - Same a Precious *not sure this was critically acclaimed* but I found it BORING

    Vicky, Christina, Barcelona - Boring

Rachel Getting Married - Was this too Critically Acclaimed, not sure?

I refuse to watch the remake's of Footloose and Les Mis (I've seen Les Mis performed live on stage and thought it was amazing - can only fathom a movie DESTROYED it)

    Gravity.

The cinematography was spectacular but the story was so, SO far-fetched that I just couldn't wrap my brain around it.
The story wasn't the story, if you know what I mean.

You're just jealous because I've been chatting online with hot babes all day long.

    :D
I once said my life was diminished because I could no longer say that I have never seen it, but on the upside, I can recognize this as a quote from the movie.

the notebook... I hate romantic movies.... all bull****

(I actually worked in nursing homes and although I DID see this... there would be about 90 residents and about only 1 couple that were still dedicated to one another... so you have to be reallllllly lucky to find someone who will love you like that.. the rest will just die alone....)

we base our reality on what movies show us.... its true.. and most the time reality hits.. and then your sitting there confused... wondering if your life really ended up like this... sad... lonely... looking over at your partner thinking how much they suck.....

    THATS WHY---

I watch action/horror/violence/ drug related/ ESPECIALLY MOB MOVIES because it shows you how lucky you really have it lol...

*** my true life advice.. love it or hate it :)

I'm sure most won't remember this movie, since it's before your time, but "Chariots of Fire"! A bunch of men running on a beach during the 1920's - pairing Olympics and religion. It's a great idea, based on a true story, but it was LONG, especially for 1981. You can only watch so much running!

    300: Rise of an Empire....

when they (the main girl and main guy) did it I almost started screaming at the screen in protest for men, yes men because it whittled a story about war down to nothing more than a powerless-sex-crazed-forget-about-your-people-pathetic man :noway:

ETA: Wow I just realized I described every U.S. politician

    Did what?

'Pulp Fiction': saw it and couldn't figure out why so many people raved about it so I went to see it AGAIN (I do try to be open-minded) and still came to the same conclusion. Lame. Have seen several Tarantino flicks and feel that each one is worse than the last. The only one I liked was 'Natural Born Killers' and I think that was written by Tarantino but directed by Oliver Stone.

IMHO...Tarantino is overrated and uses gratuitous violence for shock value just to get people talking to drum up publicity. Ho hum, how dull. As a viewer, I don't care to be played like that.

THIS!!! Have NEVER found ANYTHING by Tarantino to be entertaining, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs in particular. His big schtick was taking the movies, breaking them down into segments, and jumbling up the chronological orders. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ :noway: :grumble:

I typically tend to avoid those movies which tout themselves as "critically acclaimed", which....to me....translates to "garbage". Here are just a few, and In no particular order:
    - Thin Red Line --> How can an "ensemble cast" get roped into such poo? Dragged on INTERMINABLY!
    - Lost in Translation --> Waaaay to slow, and without a real premise.....
    - Sideways --> Not sure where it was TRYING to go, but it never got there.....
    - The Notebook --> Don't usually mind chick flicks (too much), but this set a whole new standard for SCHMALTZY!
    - Hurt Locker --> HORRIBLY overhyped, based more of the whole "James Cameron's Ex" angle than anything else. I'm a HUGE war movie fan, but this was one of THE worst.....

Not "critically acclaimed", but you can add these remakes to the list:
    - The Longest Yard --> Adam Sandler.....really?!?!?!
    - Red Dawn --> Utter waste!

Also, add in the ENTIRE "stupid humor" genre.....to include Adam Sandler, Sacha Baron Cohen, Rob Schneider, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen, etc.

    Lost in Translation

The only time I ever truly hated a movie. Critically acclaimed and a friend raved about it, so I figured it would be good. But two hours later, the credits were rolling and I was still waiting for something (anything!) to happen.

2 hours of my life wasted....

Brokeback Mountain (that got turned off after 15 minutes)
A Clockwork Orange (found myself physically recoiling from the screen in revulsion)
    The Elephant Man
The City of Lost Children (and I tried SOOOO hard to like this one)

    agreed. And I love Japan!

I'm thinking a lot of these movies being mentioned aren't actually critically acclaimed as I haven't heard of em
