Giving your body no choice but to burn fat daily

lmao @ starvation mode, congrats you broke the first law of thermodynamics brb nobel prize
****ing retard
Umm, yeah, you're not much better than the OP with all that.
Agreed. Please stop using that word as an insult, please. and thank you.
That may be so, but she could have just called everyone idiots or a*holes. She doesn't have to demean an entire group of people by using that term to insult others and in turn insult people who actually suffer from Mental Retardation. It's wrong and even the people I work with ( which are people who have been diagnosed with mental retardation) know better than to call someone else a retard...
also, this is the only offensive term that bothers me. I'm fun with the B-word, C-word, any creative concotion of derogatory words... lol. just not Retard.0 -
*forehead slap* It's proven we only need 8 grams of protein a day which is in 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. But I'm not arguing with ignorance... it only proves to be mind numbingly annoying.
Er...wouldn't requirements vary depending on factors like a person's weight, size, activity level, amount of muscle, etc? Maybe YOU only need 8 grams of protein a day but I think some of the bigger and more muscly people here would probably need a fair amount more than that.
No, pretty much everyone needs more than 8g of protein a day, even babies.0 -
I think in order to preserve my faith in humanity I am going to choose to believe that the OP was actually a troll who was having yuks and specifically designed a post so moronic as to intentionally attract as much attention as possible in short time on the forums. The indignant and arrogant attitude on top of that was just icing on the troll-cake.
If that's true, then she's a genius. I, unfortunately, believe she was being sincere.
+1
Thanks for all the laughs today, its been a roller coaster of a day at work! Had to stifle more than one laugh before getting looks from my co-workers!
OP-
I think I read that you accept your 8gr/day protein, thankful, otherwise I would keel over badly. No meat protein, no function for me. Don't skim, its your enemy, read in detail, and if you don't understand ask.
Preface with - in my opinion, what works for me, but don't quote things as fact without a lot of backup evidence.
Go read many of the targeted forums with legitimate information and MedPub Sci backing, it will only help you.0 -

It's just a shame when threads like this go sideways so quickly because it does discourage and shut down meaningful discourse that actually could be helpful or it gets swamped by gifs, insults and mockery.0 -
At the given rate, this thread's gonna roll before the mods find it.

Okay, maybe I misremembered the grams of protein needed (not that I have been measuring), but the point being is we need a lot less than what we have been led to believe. Not to mention the source of where you get that protein.

Didin't it say 0.8 not 0.08 grams per KG? of she would be close as you would have to weight 100kgs to get 8 grams of protien if you only needed .08, but 0.8 would be 80 grams.

I love when people say "it's proven" in general, and it's doubeplusgood if they follow it up with total nonsense.0 -
How is sitting in a hot tub considered cardio?
i'm glad i'm not the only one who caught this.
I want to meet the person who sits in a hot tub for 60 minutes for the express purpose of burning 50 calories.
I think its safe to say that the only cardio happening in a hot tub is sex. Now with that being said, who wants do some cardio? :drinker:
Sex in a hot tub in no bueno but for the sanitation of the tub and for biological reasons.0 -

But it's mainly a no no for the biological reasons, ie comfort. Water is not a lubricant.0 -
There's really no proof that starvation mode exist.
This may have been mentioned already but I haven't gotten that far. There was actually at least one very famous starvation experiment conducted right here in the U.S. I'll just link the wiki for ease but you should check it out the pictures of the people during the experiment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Starvation_Experiment
Which, if you read the study, demonstrates that the highest adaptive thermogenic response your body will EVER get (like with true starvation over 24 weeks) is 40%. Also adaptive thermogenesis at absolutely no point results in retention of fat, its just a slowing of the metabolism to compensate at least in part for exceedingly low caloric intake. "Starvation mode" as it is propogated on these forums is still a myth. Adaptive thermogenesis is a real thing but its not going to play a major role in the weight loss of anyone who is just dieting.0 -

4. Cardio
I hate cardio more than anything! but no one can deny it's fat burning abilities. Adding some cardio a few times a week will also promote extra fat burning, but will not burn fat daily unless performed daily. It is not needed to see results, but will add to the results. If you have a hot tub, try at least sitting in that as often as possible for some light cardio.
Bro... Do you even tub?0 -

But doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose? To tell someone that they're being disrespectful by being disrespectful yourself (not you personally, but in general)? It seems to me that such people lose all credibility. And there was some mockery and ridicule right off the bat, even if it was lighter than what followed.0 -

Encouraging people with incorrect actions for healthy weight loss is bad. Hey, cabbage diet, yea that's good, thanks for telling me that it was a good idea for me to do that. Bit extreme example but essentially what folks here are trying to cull out.
I for one appreciate it.

EXACTLY! NOWHERE in my post did I agree or disagree with anything said. I just didn't feel the need to be disrespectful and rude. Instead, I offered thanks to the OP for sharing her insight and wish her luck on her journey. There's better ways to handle yourself then to call people names and offer tasteless insults. I think we are all here for the same thing...to get healthy? She's gotten 41 pounds healthier than she was when she joined and for that, I commend her.0 -

It went sideways because OP started insulting people who were trying to correct her misinformation. There is no way to have meaningful discourse with a person who doesn't know how to actually debate or cite sources for their assertions.0 -
Also my friend who is in medical school showed me in one of his medical books that a hot tub (being that it's hot) will work the cardiovascular system0
-
A hot tub "works" the cardiovascular system in that it'll cause vasodilation and increased heart rate. But that doesn't make it exercise or good for your heart.0

^^^This is why lindsey. She provided terrible information as fact and then acted atrociously when people debunked those terrible "facts". This thread was not a shame at all, it was beautiful.0 -

bumping to read later, so I'll have some entertainment after I eat my.....8 grams of protein:huh: for lunch
Crap, I had 14 for breakfast. That's screws up part of tomorrow too. And the 22 with lunch, and the 24 I had after the gym...0 -

I don't see a whole lot disrespect here on par with calling people a retard. I see the usual suspects demanding scientific evidence to support her claims.0 -

Threads like this, ie ones that are horribly misinformed, go sideways so quickly as a defense response to prevent that misinformation propagating to someone who is naive. I have more vested interest in the general wellbeing than I do in the ego of someone as simultaneously arrogant and ignorant as the OP0 -
This thread was relatively tame until she started calling people the r-word. At that point, all bets are off.

Sure, she went all in rather quickly, but it doesn't negate the original point. Some folks had respectful replies illustrating their disagreement. Others went right for the sarcasm, ridicule and mockery. If you actually want to educate people, encourage meaningful exchanges and minimize the spread of misinformation, the latter isn't going to get it done. The content of the message will be completely lost in the delivery.
Do people really interact like this in their real lives? I just have a hard time imagining that as I think they'd have very few friends, not keep a job and probably get into a good amount of fist fights.0
