If he has been doing this ALL along, he would have much more respect for it. But he doesnt. Which tells me he has no proper training programming.

Agreed. People who have no respect for the compound lifts are idiots.

Idiot eh? Well let's see you pay your gym money to go labor physically while I get paid money to physically labor at my job. Who is the idiot now:-P

Well, for starters, I don't lift in a gym.

Yet, I still respect the compound lifts - probably because they are the mainstay of my training and I do them regularly.

If you have no respect for the compounds - you're either still a novice and don't know enough about how much you can mess yourself up yet, or you don't really lift and really don't know anything about it anyway. But, whatever...

Um, 305? Is that considered a lot? I suppose it would qualify, it sounds like a lot. I will find out tomorrow when I attempt to lift 315 just how much it really is.

Video or it didnt happen btw...

    ^I agree.

I remember you saying a while back your PR was 260 or around there-and now you're lifting 55 lbs more? Not to be an *kitten*, but that sounds like BS to me.

So, OP, why limit this to weight training? What good does playing basketball do to you? How does it apply to real world situations, why is it useful? Same for football, ballet, tennis, pretty much everything people do for fun. Unless you are suggesting we should all skip fun and focus on useful exercise, like ploughing or carrying furniture?

Weightlifting is not fun. Basketball is often fun. Anybody who says weightlifting is fun must not be lifting enough weight.

Well. I can DL 305 none competition weight. So what's 'enough' to make it qualify?

. And for the record I would rather lift and do HIIT training for 8 hours a day rather than play five minutes of basketball ball. It's boring. I hate it.

Okay. I lied. Maybe 15 min. Five minutes goes to baseball. Because that's a'sport' that makes me truly angry.

Um, 305? Is that considered a lot? I suppose it would qualify, it sounds like a lot. I will find out tomorrow when I attempt to lift 315 just how much it really is.
    Baseball makes you angry?

    it's considered 305. That's about it.

    "A lot" is 100% subjective.

I'm interested in how this 315 effort went for you and is there video proof?

And yes- baseball makes me THAT angry. I hate it. it's boring. And pointless. I have rage issues.

See when people called me out on my jump rope skills. I was like what do I have to prove. I went ahead and did it but I wanted to rub it in people faces.

I can do about 10 with one jump between... and after that I start having issues with not peeing on myself. Doing 100 of them would require adult diapers for me - no questions asked- that's a hell of a thing. I would be deeply impressed good sir!!

I get what the OP is saying though. There are a lot of guys out there (I don't think women are like this, could be wrong) who lift weights or work out really intensely, but never seem to DO anything with it. It's like the old joke, "We're working out just so we can get through our workouts."

Now you shouldn't judge anyone, any motivation to exercise is a good reason, yada yada. But I know for me I couldn't imagine doing all that work in the gym just to take good selfies. I like to get out and test myself. See if all that time in the gym has really paid off or not. Can I climb a rope? Can I make it up a mountain? That sort of thing.

I've always wanted whatever strength I had to be functional, and not just for looks.

    Agree

it's crazy- took me two years to work up the gumption to try them. I still have a really hard time with it- seriously- I do not have incontinence issues- but DU do it for me. I guess more practice- plus I land uber hard. Not my forte right now- but you only get better at it if you do it more often right!!!!

I started getting shin splints from jump roping too much. Same co worker said she used to training with a boxer and do toe raised. My shins have not hurt since.

i bought these specially designed shoes for jumping rope. they are called 'ropix'. got turned on to them because i kept catching the rope on the tread of my sneakers.

the idea sounds great, virtually 100% flat sole with no groves, all the padding up in the forefoot.

totally DO NOT recommend them lol

in practice they just made my feet hurt... BAD. at 100 bucks they were way over priced for what they were

I do not think he will prove us wrong on this 315 video dead lift.

Ok another weight room transfer outside real world app. How about when your adrenaline is not strong enough to do the superman acts of saving people. You can have a little muscle to push that body to another level or as a little insurance if your adrenaline does not kick in at all.

So you're saying basketball is a real world application? LOL

And as far as working out translating to real life I'd question if it does for many people. Like many I sit at a desk all day. I don't work out to be better at sitting at a desk. I work out to be better BECAUSE I sit at a desk.

what if your build came crumbling down on you right now? I think some gym lifting would help to get out rather then being too weak to lift anything.
