Heather, I'll be there with Alison - would love a cuppa long with your scones!!

Alison - Moultonborough is a nice area! We used to go fairly near there on the lake every summer for a week when I was growing up. We stayed at a place with cabins near Melvin Village.

Meg - hope all goes well with the expected hail and you and yours are OK  - heck of a way to start the College World Series.

The cruise was just wonderful - have posted pics on Facebook but don't know how to post any here. We flew into Amsterdam and went straight to the ship. Next day, we went to a small village in Germany, then to Stockholm and then on to Helsinki, Finland. IN Stockholm, they were celebrating the strawberry harvest and we bought a pretty large box of strawberries and sat by the water and ate them all! We walked and walked everywhere. After Finland it was on to St. Petersburg, Russia to see the hermitage one day and Catherine the Great's palace and gardens the second day. Both were truly impressive. The Hermitage has something like 3 million pieces of art and sculpture. There is no way you can see all there is to see even in a week, never mind a day. It was overwhelming. Catherine's palace and gardens were also pretty incredible. Everything was gilded (gold over brass), tons of mirrors and lights. The gardens had immense fountain displays, lots of flowers and plants in intricate geometric patterns. Our tours included lunch each day. Both lunches started with a shot of vodka and a glass of champagne. :drinker:

After Russia it was on to Tallin, Estonia. DH and I decided to loll around on the boat that day, since it was too far to just go into Tallin on our own. Then off to Copenhagen - saw the little mermaid and heard the original story - no happy ending like Disney!! We also spent some time in a small fishing village just outside of Copenhagen that was lovely. We do like to wander around the small villages. have some coffee or a local beer, and enjoy the culture. After Copenhagen, we went back to Amsterdam and we spent three more days there, enjoying that city. LOVED Amsterdam!! The Van Gogh museum was killer, food was great everywhere and public transportation is a piece of cake. Everyone was so friendly and helpful too. We had rented an apartment through airbnb.com for three nights and it was perfect for us. It was on a nice, quiet street just off a main street with trams stops there. We could get pretty much anywhere in 10 minutes via tram. Flew home a week ago Thursday and it's taken me a while to re-adjust to local time. There is a 2 hour difference in time zones between St. Petersburg and Amsterdam, plus six more hours to the US.

The ship had a great gym set-up, so I did get to work out some on our at sea days. Between that, the walking, and eating decently on the ship (food was superb, portions quite reasonable - not super large), it looks like I only gained about 3 pounds - which I attribute mostly to wine, bread, and probably some salt. DH gained 5-6 pounds

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

Jill your trip sounds wonderful. I agree so much to see in such a short amount of time. Stockholm is a beautiful city. I went there for my nephew 's wedding. Brings back good memories.

Heather sign me up,for tea. I don't know why we add other things to scones over here like raisins when clotted cream and jam are perfect for scones, Yum!

After our gorgeous day yesterday. Cool and rainy here. Everything is such a lush green now.

Today getting some deep c;leaning done, so tomorrow we will have a healthier home.

    2014 word contentment

Heather..............Had to pop on..............just returned home from a baby shower held in an "English tea room".................GUESS what we had???????? Scones with clotted cream and orange marmalade (not quite your strawberry jam, but still delicious!!!). The mom to be is a bit older (39) and wanted something more sedate than the usual loud silly games...........it was truly lovely and I met some very nice women. I was smiling to myself while enjoying the treat and wondering if you were having your tea and scones at the same time!!! So, now I know exactly what you are speaking about AND can visit agian sometime.

    Hi everyone!
I purchased a food scale today and guess what? After trying it on all of my normal daily foods I found the only thing I was underestimating was fruit!
Oatmeal. in a regular dry measuring cup weighs 2 grams less than the gram on serving size! Peanut butter? 1 tbs is exactly the weight stated as well. Humph!
I haven't really lost amy weight in 3+ weeks so I thought I must be over estimating. But that's not it. Fruit was a little lower my old way but not so much that I am going to go overboard. I. am still walking everyday 1.5-2.5 miles. I used TDEE minus 20% for my daily calorie goal so I eat 1550 without eating back calories from my walks. Hopefully, I will see results soon! Any advice? Just keep at it? Haha.

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful n June! ????????????

PS- cityjane - omg that looks and sounds delicious! ????

worried more about my dad, he is still having dizzy spells and ,is stubborn as a damn mule, doesnt want to go to a specialist and I think the time has come that he needs an Ear,Nose and Throat person, It has something to do with his inner ear.. and I just have to convince him to see someone.
well I am bushed so will be calling it a night soon.. it is quite breezy ,but good sleeping weather

Good beautiful evening ladies. We are having our annual Shriner fest this wekend, I have never gone and n't plan to this year either. They have all sorts of food booths, beer stube, bands, hydro plane races, air shows like the Blue angels. We used to have the Freedom festival and it had all those things and they kept on raising the ticket prices enough that it was no longer making any money. It was sponsored by the city of Evansville. It all culminated with fireworks on the 4th. So they kept whittling it down until it was jsut the fireworks. So our local Shriners took it over and it has now gotten to it's usual big massive festival. They brought back the hydroplane races which really took down the attendance. It is a little cooler in June than it is in July and a little bit easier on the festival goers since so many people got stupid drunk and dehydrated.

So this evening it was jsut to nice to stay in and hubbie and I took a walk. He had already done his usual walk at the mall but only walked a mile instead of 2. He has no patience for 'people' getting in his way, thinks they should all follow the rules of the road even though they are in a mall, single file, no women in strollers walking side by side, etc. Pretty regimented. They were having a day lillie sale and show at the mall with lots of tables, people slowly walking and milling about. so he cut his walk short and came home in anger. He needs to take a chill pill. He is definetely not a smell and smell the roses kind of guy. I tried to point out differnt things on our walk and he just wanted to walk, not talk, not enjoy nature, things people have done to their houses through the years, etc. I would just rather walk by myself with my Pandora to keep me company.

My sister came by yesterday with her new car. Well it's not a new car but to them it is. I told you about the fact that she inherited my Mom's terrible back and had been going through these consults to see if there was anything a surgeon could do to relieve her pain. there wasn't anything so she told her husband that she had to do something to increase her mobility and independence. She already had a power chair so she got a mini van and had a hydraulic lift put in. It works really well. When you are driving the actual lift is kind of in the sight line. She also had problems lining up her chair on to the lift part itself but she feels good that she doesn't have to depend on finding a handicap spot or leaving it to fate that a store will have a motorized chair that has enough battery for her to shop. Now her and I can got to the mall. She also wants to go to the zoo but I have to have some one push ME in my wheel chair for that. There are to many hills at the zoo and I can't walk it. Charlie tires of the zoo very quickly and feels it isn't worth the price.

Jill your vacation sounded wonderful. I like to watch HGTVs House hunters International and they frequently go to Amsterdam and it is a beautiful city. so many people riding their bikes! But the canals look so neat. A lot of people actually live on them.

:flowerforyou: We have had a pleasant cleanse day with a few chores done and a lot of resting and TV watching. We’ll go to bed extra early because we have to get up early enough to drive an hour and be in line for the ferry at 7:15 AM…..we’re going to a big barbecue to celebrate Fathers’ Day with a bunch of friends north of Seattle.

 Not into Father's Day this year. It's Okay. Hopefully, a new grand baby decides to make it into this world soon. And that is where our priorities are at the moment.

My DH also used to say that Mother's Day was for his mother and ignored me. Not wise of him in my younger years, and he has learned a bit of a different lesson since then (43 + years). But you know, everyone has a background and a story. In my childhood, I do not remember mother's day and father's day. Not until we were adults. I guess big business got a hold of it, with cards and merchandise and such, especially in North America, but Europe too. For some I realize it just means painful memories. So, I am fine to ignore both/either. For Mother's Day I told my kids the best gift they could give me is solitude. And they respected that. I do love it when people respect each other's boundaries. And DH is not expecting anything.

My birthday is coming up, our new grand baby's birth is coming up, and one of our grand daughter's birthdays is coming up. What more can a person want. I am so grateful.

    Blessed be

We just got back from hiking on the trail at the lake and I pulled three ticks off my legs, plus one I found crawling on my arm that wasn't attached yet. I hate ticks!!!!

I have taken the day off from my fitbit because my ankle hurts. It especially hurt at the pool this morning, trying to flutter kick. So I'm resting today. With our hike I'm only at 5,000 steps instead of 10,000. I guess that's resting. The last few days I've been having trouble getting all my 1200 calories, so today I decided I would get a slice of pie at the marina. After we finished our walk, hubby drove me to the marina and they had just closed for the day! Boo Hoo! And we don't keep any snack foods at the cabin. I'm not going to drive 30 miles for a snack, so I'm just out of luck. Or I might have a small bowl of cereal or something later.

Here is the joke of the day:

A young man bought an expensive piece of jewelry as a present for his girlfriend. “Don’t you want her name engraved on it?” asked the clerk. The young man thought for a moment, and then, ever the realistic, steadfastly replied, “No, just engrave it: To My One and Only Love. That way, if we break up and she throws it back to me in anger, I can use it again.”

Here's the one from yesterday that I forgot to post:

“Now, that looks like a happily married couple.” Remarks the husband.

“Don’t be too sure, my Dear. They are probably saying the same thing about us.” Replied his wife.

    Have a great evening!

    Hello ladies!

Thanks for all the encouragement...after the post of self-pity, I was able to reflect on the information that MFP gives when I hit that "complete this entry" button. Five weeks just seems a long way off.

Michelle -- I have a kitchen aid mixer and make a bigger mess using the shield than when I don't, but you should try it at least once. Maybe it was made with you in mind!

Katla -- I love the quote by Thomas Edison, especially knowing how many things he tried (and failed), but also knowing how many things he achieved.

Margomid -- to add a "ticker" you go to your profile and in the right hand column "My Progress" is the place to personalize one for you. Hope this helps.

Posters in general -- what exactly does "bump" signify?

Did an hour of challenges today. Tomorrow I'm planning to do a Gilad's Step and Tone DVD. The reason I'm doing it then is because when I ordered it, I accidentally ordered it used. I need to be sure that it's OK.

Jan - thanks for the idea about the black eyed susans. It's a definite thought. Have fun at the shower!

Went to Penney's last night. Got 9 pairs of socks for Vince for $2.11

Gloria - where in FL are you going? How long will you be gone?

Kim - thanks for telling me about your experience with the shield.

katla - it looks like we live in zone 7B. We live in Newton, NC right at the foothills of the mountains. We are about 1,000 ft above sea level. I would want the plants to be not very tall at all since they will be under the power lines and the power company comes in and does their "thing" from time to time (and you know how horrible their "thing" can look). Since we have a pool, I would prefer evergreens as long as they don't grow real tall. Decidious are trees and I know that the power company would cut them down. Also, decidious lose their leaves and that would be just more leaves in the pool. What do I like? Well, I like things that are easy to maintain (I take a religious view -- God will take care of it) especially since this will be under the power lines. Our property under the lines goes for about 80 feet so I would probably want something that isn't real expensive. Vince says that chocolate is a food group.

Well, the additional landscape fabric came in yesterday so after I wrap up the pork chops that I made earlier to have during the week, it's off to put down more riverrock. I just keep saying "this is the last load. This is the LAST load" Even tho we got 10 yards, it certainly doesn't look like as large a mound of stone as the first load (which was 10 yards). Maybe I'm just getting used to it

Joanie - did you use the entire asparagus stalk (including the woody part) or did you have to snap it off?

Cindy in OK - I don't know if we can put something under the power lines that grows as big as that Rose of Sharon grows. Duke Energy just came by recently and really cut down the growth on the property (unowned) next to us.

Beth - so sorry ds developed a headache, but glad to wasn't a full-blown one

Carol - how wonderful that you joined us! Some ladies on here have said that they mix their wine with seletzer water. That way they can have more than one glass yet still keep the calories down. An idea in case you decide to you would like a little wine

Meg - 68 cents off a gallon of gas! Awesome! The one store around here that lets you accumulate your gas credits over a period of three months, when we get the total, that's when Vince fills up the SUV. The other store that only gives you credit for a month, I just fill up my car. I'm with you, I do think that Heather needs to be sure that what she made is "up to par", and I for one am more than willing to taste test....lol Most things I can freeze, but to me asparagus doesn't freeze well. Maybe there's something that I'm not doing right

Margaret - hello! So sorry that you lost your partner

Rori - OUCH!!!! You poor dear. That word "frankenfood" reminded me of Jillian Michael's book "master your Metabolism" in which she uses it. My hubby LOVES hockey. I have a hard time with all that checking. I made this crossstitch lap quilt and the instructions said to use blue thread around the outside, but I used lavender. Guess that's about as close as I'll ever get to a lavender room. I also made another blanket (it was real simple, you tie the ends together after cutting strips 1" wide) and one side is dark purple, so that kind-of matches.

Cheryl - I always did find riding horses to be relaxing (when I did it, and I didn't do it very much)

Rori - we have a wool rug in our living room, and I don't have a problem at all with stains (and with 4 cats, someone is ALWAYS throwing up). Yet, I have a wool runner in my kitchen and that rug holds onto the stains like there's no tomorrow. Fortunately, it's pretty worn so I'll probably be getting a new one in the next few years. doesn't your trainer know that women can't get huge arms because we don't have the testosterone that men have?

Heather - one of the things that I like about a stand mixer is the fact that something can be mixing (butter and sugar or beating egg whites or whatever) and in the meantime I can be putting ingredients away or doing something else. I do also have a hand mixer.

margomid - welcome! I don't use a bar so I'm not the one to help you with that. But I know that there are lots of other ladies on here who will be more than glad to help you.

Heather - you devil, you....lol posting a pic of the scone and then the description. My mouth is drooling. You can count me in for tea

Kim - when I was working in the home ec area of the high school, one of the biggest problems I had was the fact that I had to taste each and every recipe. And high school kids DO NOT make things low cal. You have my sympathies

Jill - thanks for letting me live vicariously thru you about your cruise. Sounds heavenly

yanniejannie - so glad you had such a good time at the shower

janettenw - wonderful that you weren't overestimating. Yup, I'd say just give it time.

After exercising, had breakfast, then riverrocked until about 2:30, then picked up some of the rocks to try to get them onto the tarp, then went in the pool, then had to go to CVS to get 2 prescriptions for Vince, then church, then WalMart for milk that is on sale (the sale ends today), then home for dinner, on here now, think I'll go out by the pool, it's so nice out

Just came in from by the pool. Vacuumed out the spa.

barbie - have fun at the barbecue. Will you be bringing your coleslaw?

Renny - one year for Mother's Day Vince gave me solitude. I absolutely hated it! I asked him never again to give that to me. I wanted to be with my children

    Michele in NC

    Good evening Saturday gals!

Hope you all have a wonderful celebration of Father’s Day, recognizing DFs; DHs; and DSs….as well as DSILs! Unfortunately, my special gift from the US has not been delivered; but that will be ok; he will still like the surprise. He will have to be happy with patriarchy of a great family; son will be coming later in the week for a visit.

I am happy because Lord Stanley’s Cup was won last night sometime about 1:30 am by the LA Kings; we are Leaf fans of course, but at last, hockey season is over….and it does not start up again until October. 15 whole weeks without hockey!
Hockey widows arise! Release your shackles.

I just realized I missed three pages, will try to catch up tomorrow...

Grandmalle,my DH has a fitbit flex, and I am pretty sure yours will like his once he can see his results online!

Gmom – thanks for the link, I will look up and compare it to other ideas of nutrition.

Yannie – 14000 steps is quite a wonderful accomplishment; and the wonderful bird sighting, how rare!

Sylvia/Molly – congrats to you too on your step counts!

Dee and Katia– thanks for your sympathy and tea for our illness
Barbie – I hope you had a wonderfully spiritual day.

Michele – what I like about your weeks is that you change up your activity so often….is it for different strengths, or to avoid boredom, or both?

Cynthia – I sympathize with the sleep issues; my problem is that I am not as productive the next day. I hope you get more sleep soon!

Cityjane – I am so glad it is warm in England; at least somewhere in the northern hemisphere! Gives me hope!

    Wessecg – congrats on hitting the mark! Scary what some practitioners do;
You are not your weight, but your wonderful self! I always look forward to your horse pics!

Jb – Hellacious is my new fav word! But I hope most of the worst is over.

Carolb – you sound very fulfilled with all of your growing responsibilities! 3 jobs!

    Snagtop – welcome!

It is colder here than expected; I have been swimming in my 80 degree pool on this day 3 years ago.

Perhaps we should all get unshackled from the things that shackle us to such drastic climate change……I see Tesla has released all their patents for their amazing electric cars, in the hope that major companies will start taking the electric car seriously!
Hip hip hooray for Tesla! Perhaps there will be an ecar I can afford soon!

To all I have not yet written to, I am reading and thinking about your comments; love the words that are defining your attitudes and your goals.

My words are “ centred, calm and clear boundaries”…..
    Have a great day tomorrow!

Barbara, bump just means you are marking your spot on the thread so you can find it more easily. Some say it stands for Bring Up My Post. When yo go to community, my topics, the threads where you have posted (even just a bump) come up there. Most recent on top.

Heather – if you come to CA you MUST stay with me and we will walk and cook all day and all night and invite everyone I know so we don’t get pudgy!

Alison – you work just as hard as DH it is just on different things – do not sell yourself short!

Jill – sounds like a great trip – I am envious!

Janette - I figured my calorie count using the tool inside MFP, and when I log everything, I lose about 1 lb. a week - So I just got on line to a TDEE calculator and put in the numbers and then subtracted 20% like you did and that gives me a number 370 calories higher. That is a lot on a per day basis. And using the TDEE you are supposed to put in the amount you exercise so you would not eat back the exercise calories… But all of this is subjective – my lightly active might be your medium active. If this helps I am 5’1” 177lbs, lightly active, and MFP has me set at 1420 calories per day – then I do my exercise above that and eat back between 10 and 50%. Hope that helps.

Sylvia – love the jokes!

Barbara – Bump helps you find your place when you come back so you can look for your profile pic and know that is how far you read too.

    Sherry – welcome back!!

BJ – I too was impressed that tesla is willing to release that, although there are a lot of strings…to the release.

I was talking with a friend tonight and she made a comment, made me immediately think of all of us, she said "are you done with that diet thing yet?" I explained that I would never be done, it was a lifestyle change and that I thought I would always have to measure and write down my food as I did not have good judgement without that help. It made me realize that I have fully accepted that I will be on this journey/adventure always - She did not really get it, but she has all sorts of eating issues(reflux, allergies, ect) so weight is not a problem for her.

    Off to get some sleep.

Heather: Good luck with your travel plans. I’m happy to hear your DH is doing well with the medicine. I’ll be right over for tea, but I’ll have to pass on the clotted cream. Thanks for the invitation. What can I bring?:flowerforyou:

Kim: Teaching cooking to kids at camp would be challenging and fun. I hope you enjoy every minute.:flowerforyou:

Jill: I’m happy that you had a good time on your trip and will have lovely memories to savor.:flowerforyou:

Renny: Enjoy your peace and quiet. I have no plans for DH for father’s day, but I’m thinking about taking him out for lunch. I hope he’ll hear from our kids.:flowerforyou:

Sylvia: I think I like the happily married couple joke best. Thanks for the laugh.:flowerforyou:

Michele: I’d consider rhododendrons or azaleas. They’d do fine at your altitude, and have wonderful blooms in the spring. They prefer acid soil, are very low maintenance, and come in a range of sizes & colors. :flowerforyou:

I’ve been working on knitting a newborn hat for our coming grandson. I went to a local knitting shop and they showed me how to use double pointed needles. I’ve started it and torn it back out due to mistakes more than a few times and have about an inch and a half done to show for my day unless I make another mistake and have to start again. I will eventually prevail. I’ve never tried to manipulate four needles before. :noway:  Wish me luck.

    June Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week.
    3. Have fun every day.

    Good morning everyone!

Meg: hope you were able to get your chapter done and that you enjoyed your company.
Kim: lots of work in that cooking class; hope you will enjoy it as well. Walking around will certainly burn some calories!
Jill: you certainly saw a lot!
Alison: I love it when you say “chicas”.
Michele: what you wrote to Rori was meant for me. Curious how you clean throw-up spots on the wool rug. Agree about the trainer; that’s why I won’t be relying much on his advice….

Managed to have another good calorie day yesterday. This morning I was down about a pound again, totaling just shy of 16 kg (35 pounds). I put an Ikea nightstand together for a friend of mine; that used a few calories.
Today may be more challenging, calorie-wise; I have to work and that's sitting at the computer.
I ordered a sports bra! I used to wear one when I rode horses regularly, but haven't had one for years. I don't do anything high-impact because of my knee, but I got so tired of the straps sliding off my shoulders at the gym (even after I shortened them and put silicone pads under them to hold them in place) that I decided to order a racerback sports bra. I'm really curious how it will be.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Good morning everyone!:flowerforyou:

The bad news - England lost to Italy in the World Cup. 2- 1. It didn't end until 12.45 am so I was fast asleep when DH came up to bed.
The good news - DH is off to cricket today! :drinker: A day to myself!:drinker:  Watch some films etc. Do a bit of cooking.
The bad news - I have got the stinky, runny goats cheese out of the fridge and I am intending to have 3 oz for lunch with a leafy salad, celery and cucumber. Watch this space! It is already stinking out the utility romm where I have put it so it's a good job that DH is going out. (He hates runny cheese almost as much as beetroot!)

Barbie - have a great party! :flowerforyou:

    Yanniejannie - marmelade! ! ! ! ! ! ! :noway:

Jill - what a great cruise and what wonderful places you saw. I have never been to St Petersburg and would love to go, but DH has led teachers' seminars there several times so I don't think he is in a rush to go again.:ohwell: I agree that often the small unassuming places are the most fun, with people watching and local habits the big part of the pleasure. For me having a stab at the language, even if its just ordering a coffee snd saying thankyou, is a huge part of the enjoyment.

Janettemw - plateaux are a killer. The causes are many and depend on your activity level and how much weight you have to lose. There are no details on your profile so it's difficult to give advice. It is ALWAYS a matter of calories in vs calories out, unless there is a very temporary water retention issue. Unfortunately the lower your weight and the shorter you are the less you can eat. In order not to starve yourself you just have to up your calorie burn some way or other. Is there some other exercise you can do? If you can find something you enjoy and can see yourself doing in the long term then you will make a huge contribution to your health and fitness. The key is "long term" as Kim said. For ever. And ever. Strength training, which you can do on a hearth rug, has completely changed my shape, health and strength. I am very lucky as I am retired so can spend a good time exercising, but if you work the challenge is to find something you can sustain over time.
As always the advice is Eat Less Move More. I posted a link to a great post a few days ago which explained so well why plateaux happen, especially as we get lighter. In the end we need to eat even less than 1200 cals to lose if we are sedentary, but that is not good for our nutrients, so we must switch up the burn. It's all in charts and very interesting. Do have a look everyone. Attaining, and even more, keeping a great body is hard work. For ever. And ever.

    Love to all.
Sorry for the preachy today, but I am preaching to myself! !
