I'm 55, so This sounds like the group I need to be in! I recently moved to a new area, so I have no friends where I am, yet. I joined weight watchers for support and accountability as well. I have a tendency to start well, then slip up and can't seem to get back on track for a while, then I get discouraged! I also have a hard time remembering to check in regularly as well as tracking daily. Not really sure how to remedy those problems, except to try to make tiny changes to create new habits and build on those.0

Sylvia..............Had a thought: It's possible that your family dr. could speak up on your behalf to arrange to get you seen sooner at cardiology---this is done often, they will slip people into the sched. at the request of other drs. Your BP and related faintness does need to be checked out.

Quick pop in before I'm off to yoga - I have lost that pesky pound! So now I'm back to my fighting weight! It took a whole month to lose the two pounds I gained on my week's holiday! But I've done it! ! ! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

morning ladies,
up early ,early because I went to sleep early.. the one day I want to get to the gym, i am icing my heel.. I did order my new orthotics for my shoes, and the weight I have put back on I think is not helping.. I drank like 68 oz of water yesterday which is good, but my kidneys are hurting this morning.. every once in awhile they hurt, could be that one of the cysts has ruptured:grumble:
Oh well.. I think I am wearing myself out trying to do to much.....will try and slow down, but sorta hard to do when your planning a trip....0 -
Hi everybody; I'll read-and-reply later, but for now I just wanted to say that the cardiologist appointment went well. The ultrasound showed no abnormalities and the pumping of the heart is good. I am gradually getting off the beta blocker during the next week so I can have a bike stress test a week from today. Then I'll be able to get advice about training and whether or not I should continue the beta blocker.

Good Morning All, Today is my ab class. I am looking forward to it but nervous at the same time. I know I did really well last week and I hope people will come back again. I love instructing.
I am going to cycling class this evening and then I think I'm going to try out a new yoga class. I need to work on form, breathing and balance and I think yoga is a way to help with those things.
Guess it's time to get to work. I hope eveyone has a healthy and blessed day.
Joyce, IN, Thanks. I do miss my Dad a lot, as the posts indicate most who have lost them do. My mother dies 5 years before my father and although I loved them both that last 5 years I got to know my Dad like never before. It was truly a blessing to have that time.

My sweet (cough cough) little dog, decided she needed to know what a painter tasted like, so she bit one of my painters yesterday:noway: . I was totally mortified:embarassed: . She barks and growls and sounds like she would eat you, but until yesterday has never bitten anyone. She has had all of her shots, he said he was fine, cleaned it and put an antibiotic cream on it. She got banished to the bedroom for awhile, and when I let her out I kept her on a leash, so she had to stay right with me, it was very hard trying to do anything with the dog attached to me all afternoon. I know she`s tired of people coming and going all the time, but... I guess she`ll be spending a lot of time in the bedroom. Sure hope today will be better! I changed my profile pic to the little bugger, she looks so sweet and cute, looks can be deceiving:frown: !

well praise the lord~ I got my butt to the gym... feels good...and they missed me.. will try and get there daily get back into the routine.. I know it is what is best for me and my body.. I will be 54 in another week or so and the best gift I can give myself, is the gift of health...
came home and had a protein smoothie, and made dinner and lunch for the DH, his fitbit will be delivered today.. hope he will like it

DeeDee: this weekend my dog bit (well, barely) someone who was petting him a bit roughly and who suddenly pushed him (my dog) onto his back so he could rub his tummy. The guy meant well, but obviously didn't think that pushing a dog onto its back is extremely aggressive in dog language. :huh:0

Hey Ladies! Just stopping in for a moment to share my NSV!
Last evening I was determined to get to the aqua aerobics class. I left work exactly on time, exceeded the speed limit just a little getting home so I could change and get to class a little early. So I changed into my bathing suit to save time once I got to the gym. I started bouncing down the stairs (at home - Thank God) and the girls fell out of the bra cups because the top was too big! :laugh: Tonight its on to Walmart hoping to find a relatively inexpensive suit.:happy:

Carol in NC: I am so happy that you worked it out with Lowes! I dare not eat a southern biscuit. I couldn’t stop with just on with real butter, homemade strawberry jam, and a piece of country ham. I’ve often seen scones in the coffee shops and thought they looked like my grandmother’s baking soda biscuits – great observation.
Jscoachwife: Welcome! I’m not sure that I understand “You all sound like you have it so together” means. I feel like I am falling into little pieces most days.:laugh: Anybody that will still try to ride a roller coaster is a friend for me! In younger days roller coasters were my favorite rides, starting with the wooden one at Hershey Park, on through the newer steel ones. Now I get my thrill watching others ride them.

Joyce: The SO goes to the doctor alone because I’m usually at work. We review everything the night before and I make a list of things for him to walk to the doctor about! They are such babies!:blushing:
DeeDee: Dogs are really smart! I have had three standard (giant) poodles and all of them were white. I also had a groomer that had just graduated from school and wanted to specialize in poodle cuts. He charged me $35 per visit and would do the most fantastic cuts. The poodles were a little taller than my dining room table and all 3 reached 85-95 pounds individually. Because of their fancy cuts people felt like they were poof-poof dogs and did not have any idea they are highly intelligent hunting dogs. I only had one incident when a young man came to visit my son and the oldest poodle, who never bothered anyone, was hell bent on biting this guy. Later I found out that the young man was abusing drugs. Evidently the dog knew more than I. Don’t be too hard on your darling puppy.:flowerforyou:0 -
Welcome new comers! It has been said before that don' t feel you need to respond to all posts. For me if I have the time I will respond to the posts since the last time I posted if I have time, sometimes I respond to posts that I feel a strong connection to and leave it at that, sometimes I just fill in what I am doing. There is no right or wrong way to join in. If I know it will be a long post I write out my post on a word document, highlight control C, hit reply then control V. Other times I will just read posts and then write in bump to save my place. Join in where you are comfortable. This is a great forum for support and ideas for maintaining and achieving weight loss.
Joyce I agree about the tornadoes.. We had high winds the last couple of storms and that is bad enough for me.

Yannie jannie I had the same trouble sleeping last night at about the same time. :yawn: After venting about my car yesterday. I did write an e-mail to the main company. Part of the problem is the person who waits on you is not the person who does the work on your car. It may have been a communication problem between the two. I did think management needed to know. My cousin's son used to own and run a car repair shop. He still is a great resource, so I ask him where to go the next time I need this service.
Today I will continue to spring clean, so I wake to healthier home.

Good morning! I know some of you have "recipes" for insomnia. Please share again? I am so blooming tired that I literally can't see straight. I am getting about 3-4 hours of sleep per night and it's really wearing me down. I'm afraid I'm going to get sick if my body doesn't get some rest.
Thank you for all of the compliments on my picture with my son. He is a handsome young man and it's a pretty good picture, even if he is making a goofy face. A special thanks to the one who commented that I looked so young! Since the weight loss, I feel like my age is really showing in my face so it was nice to hear that maybe it is not as bad as I think.
I am enjoying my time alone this week and am getting some things done in the house. It is so nice to know that the things I cleaned last night will still be clean when I get home today! If I don't keel over from a lack of sleep, I hope to have some major changes made to the house by the time my son gets home on Saturday. On the other hand, I may be working at the second job until midnight this week to try to balance the check book. The new treasurer we have this year is not too good and has messed up a LOT of the deposits.
Off to get some work done!

Margaret, I have read something somewhere about gluten and thyroid problems. It is something I should investigate further. I have Hashimoto's and am trying to find out how best to live with it. I saw the film Fat, Sick and Nearly dead:

It was interesting to me as he also has an autoimmune disease. I don't think I am willing to change my diet to those extremes though.
Heather, I have been to Whitstable. Our friends lived there before moving to Faversham. All I remember is a pub on a pebbly beach next so some of those cute beach houses.

This group just keeps galloping along. I finally got back into my exercise routine after vacation. Three weeks off made a dent in my fitness, but it it coming along. Yesterday, I did body pump, and a brisk mile walk, and today is 30 mins of core strength, then Bodycombat.
Last weekend, on our walk to the coffee shop, DH spotted a domestic rabbit someone turned loose in the park. I tried to catch it, but it danced away as soon as I touched its nose.

Renny, sorry about your mom. I'm in a similar situation. You never know when you hang up the phone and say "goodbye" if it is THE goodbye.

Good morning Lovely Ladies,
Today I have done some yoga, then strength training for chest and back and next I will be on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes. It is warm and muggy in Oklahoma. Summer is on us now. Our flower beds are looking good except for the deer munching on my hollyhocks and trumpet vine. :grumble:
Alison, I'm glad you made it to the gym. I hope it eases some of the stress you've been under.

Heather, congratulations on the pound loss. I do squats, walking lunges and plié squats for my knees. I use dumbbells at about 12 pounds.:flowerforyou:

Tere, Oh my! Let me wipe my screen off, thank goodness you were home with the girls! I dove into a pool once wearing a strapless suit, not smart! Even though I was in my 20's and had very small girls back then. At least I was very quick pulling a suit up under water!:laugh:
Carol, I hope you can get some sleep soon. I take a Tylenol PM at night to help me sleep. If I wake up my joints usually ache so I can't go back to sleep. Sometimes I take a regular Tylenol and one Tylenol PM. I take Meloxicam for my arthritis so I can't take ibuprofen. Hope this helps.
DeeDee, what kind of puppy is Noel? She looks like a Maltese. We have been reading about them. Our Pug girl is rapidly declining. :brokenheart: We will travel a lot with our next fur children now that we are retired. We have been reading about breeds that don't shed very much. Pugs are sweet and funny but shed like crazy. Car travel is not much fun with all the fur.

Good Day Ladies –
It is a scorcher here today, got a good case of heat and humidity!! I got my morning workout done early, 55 minutes on the elliptical. Due to my schedule I am going to try and make it to the YMCA for my circuit training on Weds/Fri. I’ve been really diligent about doing my back exercises and my back really appreciates it.
It may sound strange, but I am really looking forward to my Physical tomorrow, I am hoping the doctor will be able to shed some light or offer suggestions for my recent weight gain.
Jane – a dozen roses is always a nice surprise.
Terewilliams – thanks for sharing the NSV, made me laugh out loud.
Carol – may be silly, but I put a few drops of lavender on my pillow case and the scent helps me to drift off.

I can't keep up w/everyone on the thread but I do like to read through on my lunch break.
I'm up to 6x per week at the gym now - it was all I could make myself go twice a week for quite a while. I've been doing bootcamp M.W.F, Body Pump T. Th. and Insanity on Saturdays. It's what finally helped me turn the corner on losing weight. I was stuck at a 5 lb loss from January until May and since I've amped it up I'm down another 11 woot woot!
I am so impressed with these tickers showing all these pounds shed - It has really inspired me to believe I can reach my goal!0 -
I just happened on to the thread on MFP. I will be 52 in November. You all sound like you have it so together. I have struggled with weight all of my life. I used to be able to get by with anything I needed to, but now the weight is starting to limit me physically. On vacation a month ago, my son & I were going to ride a roller coaster & I couldn't because they couldn't get the harness fastened tight enough. Boy was that a downer & very embarrassing! I need all of the support and encouragement I can get. Hope it is okay to join this blog.0

Good morning all,
I have skimmed through some of the posts, and you are all so busy and doing so well! I know I am not a “regular”, but I am sure glad to be a part of this group in some small way. You all give me inspiration when I am feeling frustrated with my lack of progress (caused by lack of will power). :ohwell:
I had my physical, and aside from my blood pressure being a bit high, things seem fine. My doctor prescribed some blood tests to check for thyroid (for the umpteenth time!), and other small problems (such as thinning hair, insomnia, constipation, etc…..all the joys of growing old!).:grumble: I am working on not adding salt to my foods, which is a real problem for me. I normally do it without even thinking about it, but I am trying to make a conscious effort to stop.
We are going to Washington DC for a long weekend (leaving Thursday) with Frank’s sister and husband and my mother-in-law. I have been blessed with great in-laws, and we often do things together. We went last year for a weekend and there is so much to see. I’m hoping the weather cooperates, but they are calling for scattered thunderstorms, so we’re bringing the umbrella! We plan to tour Old Alexandra, as well as have dinner in Georgetown after the museums during the day. Today is hot and humid….not that it matters to me as I am in an air-conditioned office. We did have to turn on the AC at home. It was nice and cool for a while there, and I sure love having the windows open when we can.:glasses:
My hydrangea is blooming, and my garden is growing nicely. This year, besides our flower garden, we planted grape and beefsteak tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, radishes, and basil, rosemary and cilantro. Can’t wait to start picking the fresh vegetables! The herbs are ready for picking now.:flowerforyou:
Dee-Dee and Cynthia – Nice to hear that Milo is not the only “rogue” doggie in the bunch!:devil:
Frank went to court on Saturday for Milo’s citation and they suggested that he come back to see if the officer will allow a lesser charge ($50.00 for state as opposed to $250.00 for county). Since this is a first-time offense, they said it would probably be approved. Frank installed the clips so we can allow Milo to be outside with us while being leashed, and although he’s not too happy about not being allowed to roam on the property, he’s getting used to it.
I’ve updated my goals. Some things have changed, and some remain the same. My logging has not been as consistent as I’d like. I usually don’t log on weekends anymore, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I am not within calories.
Previous and Current Goals:
Consistent logging (Could be better)
Drink at least 9 glasses of water a day (80%)
Find an exercise class I enjoy (Maybe when I semi-retire?)
RUNNING OUTDOORS (Yep and loving it!)
LOWER SODIUM FOODS (Trying!)
STOP OBSESSING ABOUT FOOD (Hmmmmm…..)

Congratulations on your progress. I can see the difference in both photos.
I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps & do the same. My goal is to lose 83lbs. I've weighed as much as 200 lbs when I had my 2nd child back n 81, lost it but gradually gained it all as the yrs went by. Just turned 60 & hoping to get it back down to 160.
Never counted calories B4, so that makes a BIG difference in my intake of unhealthy snacking, processed & fast foods.
I'm determined 2 get this weight off. Thanx 4 your inspiration0 -

Pamela28: The weight loss took me a long time because I’m over 50, but as it was coming off I learned a new lifestyle. In the words of Keith Carradine in the TV show, Kung Fu, “Patience Grasshopper.” I know it isn't easy.:flowerforyou:

Kim in NCA: DH was the barbecue master and we did use indirect heat. We had one half of the grill on, and put the Brisket on the other half. Next time we’re trying our slow cooker & smoker. DH wants to put it in on the smoker for an hour and finish it in the crockpot. We had some charred bits on the barbecue, even though we had the meat on the unheated side. It also seemed a bit dry.:flowerforyou:

DeeDee: Sorry your little dog has to be confined while the workers are there, but you’ve made a good decision if she’s taken to nipping. When we had a Shih Tzu the meter reader was afraid to read our meter. I bet he weighed less than 8 pounds, but it was 8 pounds of territorial warrior.:laugh: :flowerforyou:
Carol in NC: When I have insomnia I get up and go read, prowl the internet or move to the couch in the living room. I don’t stay in bed. I want my body to sleep in bed and don’t want to get a mindset that would keep me restless. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now, and your mind is likely spinning. Can you catch a quick nap any time during the day to help out with your level of rest? Good luck.:flowerforyou:
Cindy in OK: Good luck finding a nonshedder. My cousin has a small labradoodle. She’s sweet and doesn’t shed, but she has to be professionally groomed. Poodles and many of the nonshedding terriers also need professional grooming but would be worth considering. I love dogs. Ours is a Keeshond and he gets a professional comb-out every other week. This breed should never be clipped because they’re susceptible to skin cancer.:flowerforyou:

Just got back from my lunch with my old nursing buddies. The one this month was at a new pizza place in town, Azzip pizza. You can have just 1/2 of a salad. it's kind of like Subway with the pizzas and salad but there was no protein except the sausage, pepperoni, etc so I didn't have any protein to put on my salad. I wish they had had just plain grilled chicken but yet I wouldn't know how much sodium would be in it. I have found though that my sodium stays low even if I don't watch it. I came in and ate my carrots and apple since the veggies available were things like peppers, which I hate, and mushrooms, which I'm not a big fan of eating them raw but I did anyway. But we had a good time catching up and laughing that even at our age we still have our 'monthly'.

YannieJannie, I called the new cardiologists office twice to ask about getting in sooner, but they were kind of rude and said no. Yesterday I called my GP's office and was told she is gone this week, so she can't do anything to get me in sooner.

Cynthia, I'm glad your appointment went well and hope you can get off the beta blocker. I've never heard of a bike treadmill test. I've done it on a treadmill and with chemicals, but never a bike. I think I might like that better.
DeeDee, we had a very nice guy come here every day for a month doing things like painting and laying tile, and Molly snarled at him every single day before she was banished to her crate. Finally one day he said, "just let her come over so we can make friends. Dogs love me." She bit him. Not bad, really more of a scratch, but it did draw blood. I felt awful but he just laughed it off.
Tere, I love standard poodles. When you look in their eyes you can see there is intelligence in there. My poor Molly only has one thing in her head. Chase and kill. Ok, that's two things.
Cindy in OK, when I was a teenager I made my own two-piece swim suit once, and was very proud of it. I strutted up to the side of the pool and dove right in, and the elastic in the bottoms snapped. They got caught on one ankle or I would have been in really big trouble.
Katla, I'm so sorry to harp on this BP thing so much. When I finally get in to see the doc I'm not leaving without him changing my meds. I'm considering stopping one on my own, after reading online about one particular med that tends to do lower diastolic pressure too much, but they always say not to stop them without the doctors ok. So I guess I'll hang in there another week. Till then, I'm taking it easy.
Yesterday I went to the vet to buy flea meds (hubby drove) and they were grooming a Great Dane puppy. They let me go back to see him, and he was so cute! A huge horse of a puppy (about 9 months old) sitting in a tub full of bubbles. He looked at me like "what are you looking at, haven't you ever seen a bubble bath before?"

Popping in to post my NSV. We had a funeral,lunch at church today. I resisted all bread, corn, potatoes, and desserts. I stuck to vegetables, canteloupe, a deviled egg, a small spoonful of chicken salad, and a small spoonful of the crockpot pulled pork that I took.
Hard to estimate calories in a situation like this, but I'd say no more than 600 and probably less. I'm going to log 600 quick added to be on the safe side.
I took a Mrs. Edwards chocolate pie that was all eaten, thank goodness. We will have leftover pork, cole slaw, and squash casserole made with Greek Yogurt for supper.0 -
Passing through to say a quick "hi". I never thought I'd be able to do it but I'm almost packed and ready to roll out at 5am.
Still some odds and ends but, for the most part, I have a grip on the situation. Think this is going to be a glass (or two) of wine before bed night. I don't care what Dr. Oz says, it puts me to sleep every time and I usually sleep better than most nights. I'll just take the rest to drink in the hotel tomorrow night :drinker:
Been reading, quickly but reading. Welcomes, congrats and wishes of strength and success to all.
Have my roller blades and running (walking in the Florida heat) shoes packed and plan keep moving while being mindful of what goes in my mouth.
Don't plan to totally unplug so I'll probably check in a couple, few times along the way.

Carol – I have heard that lavender essential oil, just a drop or two rubbed into your temples will help with sleep
Adaniel – read and respond when it works for you, or just tell us what you are up too… 6x a week is great!
Lucy T4 – consider putting Kosher Salt in the shaker you use most; the salt crystals are bigger so you get less salt per shake, that would get you cutting back even if you are doing it without thinking.

Things here have been really busy, so once again don't have time to write much; - I have added a day on my gardening schedule so it is 3 days aweek, 3-4 hours each day - that is a burn of about 1000 calories according to MFP some days it feels like it:laugh: other days not so much, it depends on what I am doing; but it is hard on my eating - I am really hungry after a tough day - and that is fine I have the calories; but then my brain gets confused on the days I have to eat lighter. So working to find that balance. Always a new challenge in our adventure/journey to a healthy lifestyle.
My Levi seems to have fleas, he is on the monthly meds, and we did a flea bath but still chewing and scratching:grumble: had this issue with my old dog and found some real good powder to sprinkle on the carpet and bed that solved the problem.. I'll have to see if I can find it again at the pet store - we don't get summer storms and have the drought so yards are really dry and that seems to make the flea problem bigger.
So this last week my screen door fell off while I had a neighbor here for dinner.... that's right fell right off the house! we are eating outside - talking and crash the plastic at the hinge broke and it fell to the ground! then last night the garbage disposal gave up and this afternoon I was making calls to find a new garbage disposal and my cordless phone will not hold a charge :explode: :grumble: :explode: :noway: :grumble: Ok now in all fairness the door is about 19 years old, the disposal was in the house when I moved in 21 years ago, and the phone is 15+ years old.... BUT all in one week!!! and next week I am at camp so to busy to breath and my gourmet group is meeting next week - it was to be at someone else's house but she had a flood and all of her floors had to be removed so she is doing all the work, but it is at my house.... although I expected to be able to lend her a working house! that was clean and neat.... crazy making! I love having my own place; but right now I wish I could call the landlord and just have them fix it all.
I did buy a disposal, and need to clean up the sink area and pull everything out from under as a neighbor who is a handyman said he would try to come by late this afternoon and put it in for me.... So better jet to get that done.

Hi there :flowerforyou: have yet to guestimate my day's consumption! Had too much to drink for sure. Food all went well and it was so good to catch up with very old friends. They are childhood friends of my first husband. Known them since I was 18.:drinker:
OK - figured it out. I guestimate 1, 000 cals for dinner, invluding the nibbles and wine. :sad:
But it was three courses and I did drink alcohol. Doing it all again on Friday with the owners of our holiday home. I have two days to undo the damage, which I estimate at 400 calories, so it's not the end of the world. But I would like to get under 10 stone.:frown:
I have to admit to drinking a little too much tonight. :ohwell:
