Lisa, I am just the opposite. I am now in Ohio from PA.

From western PA I say: Pop. Hoagies. Lightning bugs.

In Ohio: Pop. Subs. Lightning bugs (at least I do).

When I lived in Pittsburgh for 10 years after leaving my hometown, they really had different terms. They had gum bands (rubber bands), jumbo (baloney), and chimlies (chimneys).

Oh and that thing you push around the grocery store is a buggy, not a cart.

My Popeye (grandfather, couldn't say PeePaw when I was little) still calls the refrigerator the ice box. I just love that man.

It is a buggy in Texas too. And I have stopped the use of the word "ice box," despite my own parents using it. It is a fridge.

It must be a regional thing in Texas, because I've lived here my whole life and have never heard anyone call it a buggy. I grew up in central Texas, but extended family is all from the DFW area.

Do you say Pop or Soda?
    Hoagies or Subs?
    Lightening bugs or fireflies?

I'm from Ohio but now in PA and I say Pop, subs, and lightening bugs.

I'm in PA now too but from Chicago so I used to say all that but I have transitioned to hoagies and soda sometimes. Still lightening bugs though.

LOVE this thread. I have lived in Washington DC (and we call it DC or the District, not Washington), Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Only the tourists ever say pop or youse! I say sofa, soda, (shopping) cart, sub, firefly, tumblebug/roly poly, liquor store, breakfast/lunch/dinner, restroom, and y'all. In Nashville, no one understood me if I said "nabs" which everyone back East calls those packets of cracker sandwiches. I had never heard of "meat and 3" till I lived in Nashville. I say put up for put away, house shoes, purse, and everyone everywhere I have lived calls laundry soap "washing powders" even if it is liquid laundry detergent.

    pop. subs. lightning bugs.

    This. I'm in Buffalo, NY

I grew up in buffalo and I would say firefly. It wasn't until I moved away that I heard lightning bug.

Also, for all you Buffalonians out there, I think you're the only ones that call pig in the middle 'pickle' in the middle.

    I'm in Ireland.

Do you say Pop or Soda? Neither. Fizzy drinks or Minerals.
Hoagies or Subs? Subs, but use the word hoagies for a specific type made with steak.
Lightening bugs or fireflies? Don't have these but know them as fireflies.

Toronto, Canada here, we say pop/soft drink, sub and firefly (not the TV show), Mixed on couch/sofa and buggy/cart (occasionally trolly) in the store. I was born and grew up in England until 18 and now Canadian and have parents who are now U.S. citizens living in Florida so excuse me for being linguistically confused lol.
