Lacey: Zombies will get the fatties first...haven't you seen Zombieland? Rule #1 is Cardio. You totally made me LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! I like zombie movies - it's a guilty pleasure. Is that A&E show called The Walking Dead? I've been watching it on the interwebz - it's good.
Hmfishy: Where are you from? 15C sounds some kinda British to me. (Could be European) I'm not nosey (well, I AM) I'm just eager to find a group member who lives on the same side of the pond as me (I'm an American living in Germany).0 -
Yeah we went to see it in the movie theater. Got a babysitter and everything just to see it! LMAO!!! I was thinking fast food like burger king....and kept thinking, well..yeah they like HUMANS. DUH. SLOOOOOW Humans!!!
The Walking Dead is way more intense than I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be more zombieland, but it is super well done and I'm impressed with it.
I think we might let G watch zombieland...she likes zombies too and definitely has the humor to get it (and the wit her momma lacks!). Even though she's only 4. She loves Starwars, as both her parents do too. And we started watching the Indiana Jones movies and she has been playing "Dr. Jones" with Jeff for a week now. It is hillarious!0 -
I've got Zombieland in my netflix instant queue, but haven't watched it yet. Now I feel like I need to!
Got my run in for the day, despite it being 29 degrees and icy out. I was a bit afraid that I would faceplant at some point, but was glad I got out. Ran 3.27 miles at an average pace of 11:24. Woot! I still got it (somewhat). I had to slow it down at points to because I was afraid of slipping and trying to bypass puddles. Plan is for another 3ish miler this week and then a 4 miler this weekend as my "long run". Made my excel spreadsheet of training and I'm ready to go!
And I'm just about to blow all the calories I burned and more at trivia. Ugh. I'm pounding the water so I can combat some of the high sodium content (I'm not even going to try and weigh tomorrow). Had a yummy lunch out. Indian buffet. I tried to keep the naan count down and load up on veggie heavy dishes and it was uber yummy. Will definitely go back there again.
hmfishy- Definitely don't get into the mindset that eating with the hubby is a "treat". I know others in the group (I spy you Kendal) were struggling a bit with keeping the eating in line when they were out with their man. Especially as it sounds like he wants to get healthier as well, it'll be great for you to lean on one another. And there are so many yummy healthy dishes out there. Check out the recipes section on the site. People post great recipes all the time. As for exercise, just try and move as much as you can. Make time in your schedule, even if it's just for multiple short bursts. We all started at different fitness levels. Believe me, I never thought I would be running. And last October, Victoria and I ran our first half-marathon together and are training for our second. You'd be amazed at what your body can do. Just don't overstrain yourself. You have to work up to things. Looking forward to hearing more from you in the group. What's your starting weight for the week? Do you have a goal for this 6-week challenge (we're just starting week 3)? We weigh in sometimes between Friday and Monday and I post everyone's progress Monday afternoons.0 -
TOM is wearing me DOWN this week. I am so sluggish and crampy and all I want to do is take a nap. So far I have resisted any chocolate.
I needed to mail something to Joey about the house (paperwork from the county about the tax value) and he got pissed cause he found out that I have an attorney. It angered him even more than I remained calm during the entire conversation (no matter how many times he hung up on me and then called me back). The last thing he told me is that he no longer is living at the address he originally moved to and the very last thing he said was "come find me". (I know him....he thinks he's such a badass for saying that and hanging up) I left him alone at that point....all I was really concerned with was the stupid property tax paper and its not that big of a deal. About an hour later though, Joey sent me a text that said "u keep effing with me then u better invest in a gun." I talked to my attorney and he advised me to call the police. The officer who called me was incredibly nice and didn't brush me off at all. He even told me a couple of the ways I can prosecute Joey in the future if I change my mind about pressing charges. Today Joey sent me a text saying to send him the papers and he'll sign them.
Did I tell you guys the washing machine broke last week? I bought a new-to-me one yesterday and it was delivered today. Then I had to go out and get gas and run by walmart. My toilets are also messed up. Taylor's been working on those the past two nights but other parts are breaking and I bought a piece thats too tall for the tank.
And I'm crampy. Did I mention I'm all crampy?
I am taking tonight off exercise again. :frown: It sucks to say that, but its 9pm and I'm just now sitting down. My calories weren't crazy today. I need to log it all before I say that, but I had turkey hot dogs for dinner.
ETA: I was only 75 cals over0 -
here is a good laugh for you all
so today was my first day of classes right.. well i had a brain fart after my first class and thought it was Monday.. so i waited for my 11oclock class.. got out a little early with my first around 9am.. well i went to the 11 class and it was the wrong class.. because i was on the wrong day... so i missed my other class that started at 930 because i was on a different day... geez... i wasnt to embarresed though.. so i had some lunch and went home... tomorrow.. 8am class and 11am class.. got it lmao...
so that was my fun day.. and when i got home i took a nap.. because between waiting on my classes i was sleepy.. and now im about ready to go to bed.. because i have to get up at 630 to get me ready then get the kids up and off to the bus stop by 720 so i can leave at 730 to take my youngest to daycare....
i had a good work out today Zumba about 600 cal burned... came home starving but didnt really eat a lot .. pork chop and some nutella and bread.. still feeing a little hungry .. i still have a few calories to eat today like 500... i dont know if i want to eat them because i havent seen the scale moving much .. but also dont want to deprive my body of food either.. idk what to do to get the weigh moving again... eh...
hope you all had a better day than I today !! hehe im hopeing i get it right tomorrow.. oh oh and i get a free lunch at school too.. chicken n noodles mashed taters and green beans and jello... yum.. well gnight0 -
Bethany that is funny! I did that the first term in college...talk about making it even more nerve wracking since I hadn't been in school in over ten years!!
Fishy get out of that mind set!! Buy some skinny cow ice-cream bars, log it first thing in the morning and look forward to it all day. I bet you can make it through the day knowing you get that treat at night!!! It totally works for me.
Kendal the end is near girl!! Good job keeping calm, it's the best thing you can do.
I'm tirrrrrrred. The bootcamp class kicked my *kitten*.0 -
I'm new to this site as of today and I would like to join you if I may. I also have 200+ #'s to lose.0
-
Kitchw: Hi there! Welcome to the group. Tell us about yourself. Where are you from, are you married, got any kids, etc.
Lacey: I like you idea of logging a treat in the morning and then looking forward to it all day.
Bethany: Bummer that you got your schedule screwed up. Monday holidays totally mess with me for the rest of the week!
Kendal: Major props to you for dealing with your ex in a calm and sane manner (despite his being bat-poop crazy). I'm sorry you're feeling crampy and miserable. And I'm sorry you've got washer and toilet issues. Sometimes, things like that make me think twice about being a homeowner.
Kristina: way to run you speed demon! You rock!!! You also HAVE to see Zombieland, it is the single most entertaining zombie movie I have ever seen.
Well, it's Wednesday and I weighed in this AM at 217  . I didn't eat THAT poorly in Rome, so I'm pretty sure it's water weight (better be water weight...). I'll keep pounding the water and working my butt off. Today is P90X Plyo so that should burn some calories! Have a lovely day/night!0 -
I was down to 214.8 this morning. I think TOM is screwing up my weigh ins.
Zombieland scared the crap out of me. I like Shaun of the Dead though....guess I just don't like fast zombies that attack you out of no where.0 -
Sean of the Dead is super fun too. The scary zombie movies, horror kinds, I don't like those...but the funny kitchy kind, LOVE them!! I got Jeff a tshirt for Christmas last year from cafepress.com and its pretty awesome. They have tons of them.
I am all sorts of body tired and I hurt my shoulder last night at the class so tonight I will just do loads of cardio and core and lower body exercises instead.
Gotta get going here..0 -
Welcome to all the new people!
Sorry I haven't been better about posting on here. I currently don't have Internet (long story) so I've been posting from my phone which can sometimes be a pain. Anyways.......
I finaly measured myself and I was actually a little surprised by my measurements (neck:15" waist: 39" and hips 47.5"). I carry most of my weight in my butt and legs so I need to keep track of those as well. I did get all my water in yesterday and I'm getting back on track with working out.
I've set up a bit of a challenge for my son (11yrs). He is doing the 30 day shred with me with the promise of a new video game when we finish 30 days of it. He is a great kid who stays out of trouble and maintains good grades but he isn't as active as a boy his age should be. Over the last two years my son who was always tall and skinny has put on a bit of a belly. It's hard as a parent because you want your kids to be healthy and fit but you don't want to give them a complex either, but he has started to show interest in what I've been doing and wants to start going to the gym. He is at a crazy age and going through all kinds of changes and only has a mom to talk to about it.
I LOVE zombie movies! Well horror movies in general. The walking dead was brilliant and I can't wait for the next season.
Lacy: I also dig the idea of logging your treat early. I think if I did that I would work harder to earn it.
Fishy: Lacy is right. Skinny cow bars are great to help with the bad for you food cravings and if you can stay away from bad foods one day then you can do it for two days then three and so on. Like any lifestyle change the hardest part is getting going.
Well ladies, I'm off to be an awesome sister and give my little brother a ride to work.0 -
Newbie!
This group seems to align with my hopes are for in 2011.
A little backstory:
Married, (25 years in 2010, though I truly didn't know if we were going to make it- but that is another story), two daughters - one in college (2nd yr) and the other is about to graduate HS. I have a terminally ill younger sister (34) and an aging mother who is the primary caretaker for sister, I have watched them both suffer greatly this past year. Father-in-law, suffered fatal health issues in 2010 and passed away.
With 2010 behind me, (quite possibly the worst year of life), I have nothing to look forward to except making this start of how I want my life to be. Trying to mend those relationships that I thought were lost and for now am taking care of myself, which means I can then take care of others without sacrificing my health.
Overall goal is to lose just over 100 lbs... however I have started with a more manageable goal. I would like to be down 20 lbs. by end of January. Lost almost 20 lbs. by end of year (started in September) gained a lot back through holidays. Started 10 lbs. heavier than I wanted. Next goal, lose a total of 40 by August (45th bday) and would like to be down full 100 by end of March 2012.
Since using MFP, I am already down 4, weigh in tomorrow hoping for at least another 2.
I am proud that I have stayed with the exercise portion, major missing component of the past. Since 12/27, I have only missed 3 days of doing some kind of exercise.
My husband, who wants to lose as well, is usually someone who sticks with it so that has made it easier on eating out and what gets prepared for meals, however, he doesn't need to work out to lose weight, so it has been a little more difficult going on my own, but I do! Would like to walk in 5K in March and my goal is to do it in under an hour...
Here's to making it happen!0 -
I am looking back at my little calendar to see how I'm doing this week....every day I've been over on cals. Not by just like 60-75, but over 150. Eff!!! It is day 62, and so far this week I've worked out 146 minutes and burned 1347 cals. I have to exercise 154 more minutes to complete the 300 per week by Saturday...so minimum 51 min work outs over the next three days.
Good to put it into perspective I suppose.
Week 1:
311 min/2744 cals
Week 2:
317 min/2877 cals
Gotta get the eating back on track. Right now.0 -
ADG - think of your exercise time as "me time." Your time to yourself that you can just be without getting interupted or having to think about anything else but you, or nothing at all. When I work out my mind completely stops. Its the only hour of the day that it does and I seriously relish that fact.
I think you are on the right track, so use us for support and keep going every day. A little change each day leads to long term lasting results.
Sarah - I think that is great to get your son involved without pushing weight loss on him. My four year old daughter eats like a mad person and I find myself lately telling her to drink water, etc. etc. and then see if your tummy still needs food. She is by no means overweight at all, perfectly sized. I wonder if I am not giving her some sort of early complex so I try to not make too big a deal out of it and never ever say anything to her about getting fat or too skinny, etc...but still. I worry with how much she eats. Even though 99% of it is healthy.0 -
Hey ladies. Today is just flying by so far. I'm stil feeling this semi-cold. Sort of congested and my throat is gunky, but am able to function. Unfortunately my voice is comng and going, which makes the 2 therapy sessions I have today a wee bit difficult. One down, one to go.
Food should be good today, which I definitely need after yesterday. I burned the roof of my mouth yesterday when eating spinach/artichoke dip, which is totally karma for indulging in it. Bad calories. Bad.
Anyways, brought my gym clothes today and plan to hit up the rec center after work for a decent workout (probably the bike), and then plan to frump the rest of the evening. I missed the Biggest Loser last night (though read a recap), so I'll watch that among other things and try to get to bed early.
adgrissom- welcome! Thanks for the intro. Many of us in the group want to ultimately lose a good chunk of weight. It's important to make those smaller goals so it doesn't seem so unattainable and you lose hope/motivation. Thrive for those small victories. And the exercise component is a key part. While eating really is the majority of what will help you lose weight, you'll get smaller quicker when you exercise, your body will bounce back better, look leaner, and, what I've found the most rewarding part- it's a major mood lifter if you do it consistently. I'm glad your husband is helping as well. Even if he doesn't need to exercise to lose weight, maybe you can get him to join you sometimes, as the added support is great. And you can totally walk a 5K in March! Stick with it!
Sarah- taking measurements is another great way to measure progress. I try and do it at the beginning and end of each challenge. I expected to lose weight first wear I gained it last, but that hasn't been the case, probably due to the types of exercise I've been doing. I surprisingly had a pretty flat stomach for considering how heavy I was. Eventually the weight caught up with me, and I did gain there, but I thought that would be the first to go, but it's actually been my hips and thighs (where I gained first) that have gotten the smallest, though I still have a long way to go. Keep up the great work, and thanks for checking in! It's a pain to do on the phone. I have an iphone, and while I love the newest version of the app, I really wish they'd update it so there was a mobile version of the message boards. Would make life so much easier!0 -
Kristina: Bummer about the burned roof of your mouth and feeling sick. That sux. My sinuses have been acting wonky but I'm hoping it's just because the weather can't decide if it wants to be snowy or 45 degrees outside. I choose to ignore it.
Lacey: Get your workouts in *cracks whip*
ADG: I'm glad you found your way to our group! Our ladies are freaking awesome and a great support. I have had an UBER crappy 2009-2010 and so I feel you on putting a crap year behind you (I don't wanna bore the ladies who already know my story but here's a quick rundown: Jan 2009 - I got blood clots in my lungs and nearly died, Dec 2009- had the equivalent of open-heart surgery to remove a (thankfully) benign tumor in my thymus, Jan 2010- a personal marital crisis had to be dealt with all of one month after major surgery, Jan-March 2010 - husband was across the country (he's in the military), Sept-Nov 2010 - husband was in another country). My personal belief is that 2011 HAS GOT TO BE BETTER than the past 2 years (even though DH is deploying to Iraq for the last 6 months of the year!). You're right that you have to take care of yourself in order to take care of the people in your life. Keep your health as a priority and you'll be better able to cope with all the other crap that happens. You can do this!!!
Sarah: It's cool that your son is doing your workout program with you. I am a MAJOR advocate of keeping kids active. I put my son in sports most of the year (he does 2 seasons of soccer and 1 of basketball) which helps develop teamwork and cooperation as well as coordination and being a great outlet for kid-energy. I also make Gabe walk the dog with me ever morning for 30 to 45 minutes and, when the weather is nice, I make him go on my runs with me (he's 7 and can run a 5K with NO PROBLEMS). His dad has recently begun a program of calisthenics (push-ups, sit ups, squats, etc - without weights) with him to make him a but stronger for his sports (he's a bit of a skinny kid and doesn't eat very much at all). I've been paying a lot more attention to his water/fruit & veggie/ protein intake to make sure he's getting the nutrition he needs to be as active as he is.
Another day is over (here in Germany) and the weather cannot decide what it wants to do. It rained all day then got really cold and snowed for about an hour before stopping. I walked my dog and did P90X Plyometrics. Now that it's week 3, I can really feel a difference in the quality of my workout. I can jump higher and squat lower without my heart rate trying to explode out of my chest. So even if the weight isn't coming off as fast as I think it should, my fitness level is definitely elevated. Have a great day ya'll.0 -
ADG- Welcome to the team! I'm sorry to hear about a bad 2010, but 2011 is a new begining and I think for all of us it is a big year for change and personal growth.
Kristina- Sorry about the burn and I feel you on the spinach artichoke dip. Once it's in front of me I can't stop eating it! I have an iPhone too and though I love it I miss jumping on my computer to do this.
Amy- That's awesome that you have your kids so active. Johnathan (my son) isn't much for sports but during the summer I can't keep him out of the pool. He always drops a bit in the summer I just need to figure out winter activities.
Lacey- I wouldn't worry too much about giving your daughter a complex as long as it's poise feedback. I had my son very young and wasn't great about good nutrition with my son. My mother had a habit of over feeding my brother and myself as children and it wasn't untill the last 5 or 6 years that I realized how bad this is. It has taken some time to break that habit for myself and now my son.0 -
Hey everyone! Sorry I have not written much. It has been a crazy week! Had a little accident over the weekend, so I've been dealing with the insurance issues, and I have a special project due at work Friday, so I've been focusing on that. I have still gotten some exercise in. Today one of the pharmaceutical reps brought Starbucks muffins to work. I really wanted one, but I didn't want to waste 360 calories. I looked at them several times, but I didn't take one!0
-
Karen- Great job avoiding the muffins!
Well I exceeded my water intake today! 10 glasses down!0 -
Hey gals - I'm just sitting down to relax. I worked all day, had 45 min at home to make dinner and did 15 min of stretches, off to bookclub, it was my month to drive so got home at 10:30 (very late for me) but love the group of ladies. Family emergencies are haunting me this week. My cleaning lady cancelled Monday - her sister had Bleeding mass on the brain and is having surgery this week. On a positive note, hair dressers daugther lost baby and had heart attack plus liver failure but is now home and doing okay. We're aiming to do my hair this Sat. So, after getting home Tonight, I packed my lunch and cleaned the kitchen. I really HATE cleaning!!! This makes me appreciate her all the more!! At least DH is a neat freak and will help clean. My back is feeling better. I figured out what caused my problem - helping to walk a client that hasn't walked in years. I saw him Mon when the flare up occured and again today. I was smart and spent time stretching between his walks today - it really helped. Until I walked him today, I hadn't figured the trigger out.
Sorry to babble but I'm just venting. I'm supposed to run 3 miles tomorrow. It's another long day of work leaving not leaving until 9 am but with being up late, I'm not sure I can get it in before work. If not, I'll do it Friday.
I learned one of the bookclub ladies (4 miles from me) sells grass fed/ no hormone ground beef by the pound and has green house with naturally grown veges for sale. How did I miss this before? This is her 3rd month in the club. I knew she baked/sold great pies (note to self - stay away from the pie). I will admit buying homemade strawberry jelly from her stand last summer. I didn't know more stuff offered for sale at her house. She also sells farm fresh eggs. Can you guess where I'll be shopping?
Sorry I'm not responding to individuals. I'm just to tired. Catch you tommorrow!!!0 -
Got my work out in. That last 20 minutes of cardio sucked and I really had to push myself to keep going but its all good.
Then I got home and found that poor G had had a bad day at school. Apparently she wouldn't stop playing with her doll at nap time and the teacher yelled at her. She also has an aching ear so it was a bad day. She took the teacher getting upset at her really hard and was teary eyed and crying off and on for a good hour till we got her settled. The teacher thing is all through her four year old eyes so I have to talk to Ms. Joe and see what happened and then talk to her and hopefully it will all be good...and then make her a doc appt for her ear. She's had ear aches off and on, but hasn't had one in about a year or so...here's to hoping it is minor and not a bad one. When I put her to bed she was doing the fever heavy short breathing thing so I am kindof expecting her to wake up feverish tomorrow. Yuck!
Victoria - wow so the woman lost the baby that late in the game, then a heart attack and liver failure!? Goodness gracious...good to know she's home now and doing okay! And that sucks about your housecleaner too. Lots od medical issues to deal with. (I'd love to have a house cleaner).
I'm happy to hear that you figured out what is causing your back issues...its a step in the right direction anyways.
I'm jealous about the beef and greenhouse. I'd LOVE to own a huge greenhouse and do hydroponic tomatoes, etc. during the winter.
Good job to Sarah on the water and Karen on skipping the muffins!0 -
Sleep won. I'll have to get up early tomorrow to run.
Amy - American Gods is quite bizzarre. I'm about 1/2 way though. It's not making much sense to me.
As to Zombie movies - they generally aren't my cup of tea but I'll have to put one on the Netflix cue. I guess it's time to get moving. Hopefully, I'll get to checkin tonight.0 -
I had to go to walmart last night to order cakes for work and the lady gave me so much attitude that I kinda made a scene. After I had been waiting about 5 minutes for anyone to appear, the ladies dealt with the TWO people who showed up after me even though I had been waiting longer (rude of the other customers, not the ladies, I know this). All the bakery lady had to do was write down the dang order (she huffed and rolled her eyes when I said I wanted to order a cake....and it's not like I was asking for a big, complicated cake!) As she was grabbing the paperwork, she complained to me that they really need 24 hours notice (excuse me for giving 23 hours notice instead!!). So in front of a lot of people, I loudly said "you know what? nevermind! I don't want you to have to work or anything" and walked away (as she and the deli lady yelled at me to come back). I complained to the manager about her huffy and completely rude attitude. (It was all I could do not to flip them off as I was walking away. So anyway....because of that incident, I grabbed the wrong yogurt. Still good yogurt that I like (yoplait whips), but they have more cals in them than the ones I meant to grab (great value light yogurt).
My weight is back up today. 216.2.
TOM is still wearing me down. It normally only lasts about 4 days....this has been going on for a week and its just now starting to pick up momentum. :grumble: (and that probably contributed to my short fuse last night) I haven't worked out all week. Going to restart week 1 on P90X next week. I messed it all up the first week anyway.0 -
Had a proud moment last night during workout, convinced husband to go, but I arrived around 20 minutes before he did as when he goes, we usually ride in together as the Y is about 20 minutes from where we live and we both work downtown, so it is more convenient for us to ride in to work together and then go to Y immediately after work. However, he usually only likes to work out for about 20 -30 minutes whereas I prefer a 40 -50 minute workout.
Anyway, so we drove into work separately yesterday as he was unsure if he would even be going to the Y and I knew it would be too tempting to not go if he wasn't going to go, and we were riding and we would just go home.
I have a goal to walk/run in at least 5K's this year and for my first one (in March) I would like to walk it in less than an hour, so I have been pushing myself as I am training to get to 2 miles in 38 minutes or under. I have been really close recently but not having actually met the 38 minute mark, it is has been 38:12 or 38:25, so being that I had a head start before he ever got there, I pushed myself to keep going when I thought my legs were going to fall off. I had been there for 20 minutes and managed to get 1.15 miles in before he ever arrived. Then while he was there, he walks at a much faster pace than I do, I was able to keep up with him and finished my 2 miles in 36 minutes. So while he was finishing his workout, I was able to do my cool down and still get in almost a 45 minute workout.
If I can keep that pace, then I shouldn't have a problem achieving my overall goal of less than an hour for my first 5K.
One positive: I also must admit with the issues from within our marriage in 2010, it is also an opportunity to spend more time together, so I am willing to do a condensed workout when he goes with.
Negative: He has to be at work by 7 a.m. and I at 8 a.m., so I have to get up an hour earlier and get to work an hour early, however he too sacrifices and stays at work until 5 p.m. when you could get off at 4 p.m. But I am not only missing about 20 minutes of my workout but also an hour of sleep.
I just keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the long run.0 -
Morning ladies! I'm still relatively sick. I might even leave work a bit early today. I had thought about taking off or working from home, but I had to go into the office today. Might cut the day short.
Was at 180 this morning, which doesn't please me, but I know it's just a day, and I did have that Applebees issue earlier this week, so I hope it'll be down tomorrow. I brought my gym clothes today, but I don't know if any exercise will happen today with the way that I'm feeling. It's a schedule running day, but we'll see how I feel this afternoon. I would like to knock out something.
My old roomies are coming into town this evening and leaving Saturday morning, so there might be some not so great eating going on. We'll see.
Yesterday, even though I wasn't feeling great, I did make it to the gym and did an hour on the bike. Not my fastest ride ever, but I did stick with it. The Kindle helped-- perfect thing to make the bike ride go quicker.
Karen- nice job on staying away from the muffins. Those can be hard, but are totally not worth the calories. My favorite starbuck splurge used to be the pumpkin scones. i pretty much love pumpkin anything, but I haven't had one this year!
Sarah- great job on continuing to up the water. You'll definitely notice a difference over time.
Victoria- glad to hear your back is feeling better. You've been quite the busy bee! Boo for not being able to get the run in. I'm due for another 3 milers as well and am not sure if I'll get it in. Are you using the same training plan you did for Detroit?
Lacey- great job working out! I know it can be hard at times, but doesn't it feel good to get it done?? Poor G! Hope she feels better!
Kendal- sorry about the ladies at Walmart giving you sass. Geez! TOM issues completely blow. Hang in there!
adg- Great job getting to the Y!! Sounds like a good system with your husband. First, that he is exercising, which is good as a workout buddy, but that you're not using his liking of working out for shorter amounts of time stopping you from working out for longer. And you're right- I imagine doing things together like working out can help your relationship. What a healthy way to do so! Woohoo for reaching your time goal! You'll be up to 3 miles in no time! I started the Couch to 5K program last January and ran an almost5k (2.9m) in March, so you can do it!0 -
Adg- my husband and I hit a pretty rough patch last month but are working thru it. Any time you can spend with your husband is good to repair hurts in a relationship. That is one thing jeff and I don't have too much of and we are attempting to find more time together. Having a kid sure does change that dynamic. And awesome job on the walking!!!!woohoo!!
Victoria - I'm half way through reading the book too. I've kept up with it and get it, but i can really see how listening to it would throw me for a loop. There are some books I think for me are better to listen to and some are better to read!
Kristina - I hope you feel better, enjoy your friends.
Well I'm home today. Gracie is having an ear infection i think, so I'll take her to the doc later on and hopefully we will nap too. I'm sore all over and could use the extra rest.
Jeff might be going to meet a friend he hasn't seen in a long time , and with g being sick that may mean no working out. So my goal today is to watch what I eat. And either do 100 minute work out tomorrow or do 350 minutes next week to make up for what I missed this week. Boo.0 -

@Laceylala, yes, it very important to spend as much time with your spouse as you can ESPECIALLY after children. Some of the recent issues in my relationship were directly related to the fact that for the last 10 years, my husband felt I put him on the back burner and gave everything I had to our children. Which is true, and I will admit, I should have been more attentive to him as he felt like he was the odd man out. Being that both of children are girls, in a sense he was. Find the small things you can do to remind him how important he is to you and your family. (Even if you both work, he may feel you only need him for finances, as he feels excluded from things other than those that require finances.)
Trust me, I know by the time you take care of your child(ren), work (whether you work outside of the home or are a SAM), housework, errands, etc. Finding that extra moment or two is very difficult, yet so very important.
It was during these past 10 years, that I put myself so far behind everyone else's needs that my health and weight became an afterthought.
You will increase your happiness in knowing that you are making someone else happy and if they have the same mindset, they will return the like.0 -
Hi all! I read the thread this morning and then THOUGHT I posted without ACTUALLY posting. I'm a dork! I had a rough night last night with a fibro-flare up and could have easily stayed in bed all day and wrote the whole thing off on fibromyalgia. I would have gotten away with it too...'cept the fact that I KNOW I feel better when I exercise. So I trudged out of bed this morning and took the kid & dog for a walk in the snow. We met a cute old man with a cute little dog named "Indy" - he thought it was funny that his dog is named after a character in an American film and that I happen to be American. (Sometimes I don't get what the Germans think are funny but he was a sweet guy anyway) After the walk (which ended up being longer than planned due to the German guy and the beautiful snow falling), my aches and pains were almost gone (I did rub a bit of eucalyptus oil on my sore points to help with the pain) and I proceeded to get my run in (2.5 miles at a 12:30 pace - not bad for me) and my P90X in.
ADG: It weird how women can lose themselves in family/kids. My mom did that. Her kids became her world and she and my dad ended up with two completely separate lives. I always keep that in mind and plan me & hubby alone time where we don't talk about the kid/ money stuff/ work stuff and just enjoy each other's company.
Lacey: I hope Gracie feels better soon!!! Ear infections are the WORST.
Kristina: Enjoy your old roomies!!!
Kendal: You know what's funny??? Before moving to Germany, I would have been right with you on the complaining about customer service but now I'd say you are lucky they got around to "helping" you at all. Seriously, "customer service" in Germany does NOT exist. You're lucky if companies do things when they say they will (think: hook your internet up or come to fix your furnace) and there's no way in hell that they are gonna give you even a window of time for when they MIGHT appear. I seriously MISS the days of the cable guy saying he will be there between noon and 6 pm - you can't even pin these people down to a specific DAY let alone a period of time within that day. The weirdest thing is that all the Germans just accept it. No one complains - they just work with it. Weirdest damned thing I've ever seen. But my totally American nature feels you on the frustrating lack of helpfulness of your bakery people. It's good that you walked out - they shouldn't benefit from your business if they're gonna treat you like that! I'm sorry your period is being a pain - feel better soon. :flowerforyou:0 -
Amy - I'm happy to hear that you got up an exercised and felt better.
Well the first half of the day had me wishing I was at work. G was so tired and cranky and not feeling well. Aiy yay yay or however you spell that. Then I took her to the Dr and she told G that she wasn't sick with anything but a cold, scooped some ear wax out of her ear and she was magically better. LOL. Her ear is still hurting, but it is because the tube finally popped out and is just sitting on her ear drum. So this weekend we will (hold her down) and put some water/hydrogen peroxide mix in her ear and hope we can flush it out finally.
We came home and took a 2.5 hr nap and she is much better. So the combination of just not feeling well, being tired from not taking naps anymore and getting yelled at by the teacher just set it off.
Anyways, I didn't get to the gym so that part is sucky but I am sooo sore so it was probably good for my body to rest anyways. My cals are about 1500-1600ish so I am happy with that. Tomorrow and Saturday I plan on doing 70 minutes to make up for everything but ten minutes of the 300 and I will make that up next week..yeay.0 -
Hi all!! so hard to get on here these days (as it is my daughter is in bed and my son is nursing so i'm typing with one hand...
Anvy - i don't know how you don't go postal with that kind of service. there's nothing more aggravating to me than poor service. I would have done the same as Kendal: had anoutburst and then go to management and then regretted the whole thing! i can't count the times!! i'm in Canada by the way (hence the centigrade temperature). I'm foreign, but not as foreign as you are right now i know a couple swears in german if that helps?
Bethany (Mrs Marv) - i STILL have nightmares about missing class and i graduated Uni 8 years ago! when i was a first yeart i sat in the wrong class but was too embarrassed to get up and so i sat through some sort of advanced physics.
Sullen- thanks for the tips on eating, excercising with kids etc. i'm especially empowered to hear about how you started running - everyone starts somewhere - it's hard to remember that (i assume runners have always run marathons and the like, so they are they and i'm not a they) starting wt for the week is 235 - even though i know i've gained this week, last week's flukey 5 lbs came after a week of meeting my goals (something i haven't done this week). in 3 weeks i'd love to lose a pound a week, so be 232 lbs.
Lacey - your tip about logging the treat early and "earning" it is BRILLIANT! i am very bribe orientated - that will suit me perfect. i need to do the same with diet coke - i drink it like water! sorry to hear about the ear infection - the only thing worse than having one is a 4 year old with one. how'd the doll thing work out? is G back in the teacher's "good graces"? poor little thing
ADG - my mom lost herself in us and work. now she's retired and we're grown and she and my Dad are in two completely different worlds. Enjoy loving yourself and taking care of yourself.
As for me - I made cupcakes last night as a "treat" - yeah, they're all gone. I truely want to reach the point where food doesn't dictate my day - where I can sit down and eat what I want and stop when I'm full. I love "healthy" foods - i eat relatively healthy most of the time... unless there are treats in the house - then I eat them all up and go back to eating well. THE most important thing to me is teaching my kids well. My mom was always on a diet, always unhappy with herself, how clothes didn't fit, etc. She had us on diets in grade school (we were the fat kids, but nothing that couldn't have been nipped in the bud). we'd watch all the other kids eat icecream at the dayhome and we'd get canned fruit. So everyone knew we were dieting. I can remember stealing food, I was so hungry (or I thought I was anyway) - eating bread in the bathroom. Then they'd give us a dollar on the weekend to go to the store and buy junk (back in the day a dollar bought you a pop AND a bag of chips! - i'm 34). So many mixed messages. we were enrolled in figure skating for YEARS, then as a reward get greasy arena burgers and fries for supper. I want my daughter to love herself no matter what she's inherited that she'd prefer were different, love herself no matter what she weighs, no matter if she shaves her eyebrows off accidentally (yes, i was that kid). And take care of herself BECAUSE SHE DESERVES TO. The first step to teaching her thse things is to learn to love myself AS IS. Why is that so hard? I look at their beautiful little bodies. My children are perfect - 10fingers, 10 toes, my daughter was even born with a cleft lip that required repair at 3 months old. She is perfect. How I pray I can find grace in my klutzyness, beauty in my bumpy skin, stealth in my extra layers To steal a line from He-Man... I HAVE THE POWER!!! on that note, off to bed with me, clearly the cupcakes have gone to my head (better than my butt!)0
