Wow.. you are an inspiration to me hun. Just before i read this i was going to reach for the chocolate, like i always do, but reading your story and your willpower to want to lose the weight was a kick in the a$# for me to be able to walk away from it. Thank you and good luck on your journey. I am sure you are going to be just as much of an influence to your friends as they will be to you.0

And, yeah...I am crying at my desk, and your story is so very inspirational, and I am going to send you an FR...Even if you are not vocal much, I will be able to see you move mountains!! You can do this!0
-
Tannun,
God bless you!
I wish you the best of luck in your chosen path. Hang tough and remember that you have everything you need in your heart to accomplish this goal!0 -
Wow! I'm in tears at work. I don't even know what to say but we can do this together! I'm sending a friend request.
PS - You should be a writer. You are very talented.0 -
HUGS! You can do this!0

Nice to meet you. Your story is very moving to me. We can all motivate each other and meet our goals in this way. I'm going to send you an add! Another odd question. Have you ever though about being a writer?0

I recommend you find boogie2988 on youtube and watch his serious videos. He has a lot of comedy as well, because it's how he makes a living being physically disabled with weight and spending a lot of time at home. He talks about a similar struggle with his childhood, though he is younger (30s) and has not had as much life experience he seems intelligent and thoughtful and a lot of good thoughts to help those of us who struggle with weight and esteem issues.
Your post is impressive and took a lot of guts just posting it. Yes the small changes keep you going, they give you hope, and make it easier to do a little bit more each time. Every bit of independence you gain will make you want more. It is hard every day, and some days are REALLY hard. So I prefer to think of it like this and it took me until this month to be able to. Your only goal is to get through today successfully. If you did that, be proud of yourself and make that your goal the next day. That's a goal that you can measure and reach. A goal to lose 200lbs is a goal that only can be measured or assessed once with victory and every other day and minute that you assess it you will not have achieved it. When you're having a bad day, the fact that you haven’t lost it will seem like a failure to you. There will be setbacks and failures and days where it feels hopeless and days where you don't care and ultimately for most of us a goal never reached.
So make your goal measureable and achievable each day. Did I get as much physical activity as possible for me? Did I eat the appropriate calories/carbs(diabetes) for me? Did I take care of my health needs? (add whatever you feel like that can be achieved today) If yes, then woohoo! I met my goal. My long term goal is to do that more often than not.
Every day I do that, I can be proud of myself. I don't have to be ashamed of what I became. I don't have to feel like I'm letting my family or myself down. I can hold my head up high, because I'm taking control of my life and am better each day than before. I'm a person who is meeting my goals and succeeding.
I wish you the best through all the hard days and I hope that you're proud of yourself and confident long before you're down to your target weight.0 -
I'm glad I'm not the only one with wet eyes. :sad:Little things. Baby milestones maybe. But maybe that's all you need? The little things can pile up...
Sometimes letting the little things pile up can be bad... But maybe sometimes it can be good too.
Small changes add up. Each step costs calories.
Each time you choose to have a smaller amount of food moves you toward your healthy goal weight.
Celebrate every little victory: each 5 lb lost, each time you drop 1 BMI number, lose 1" from your waist, add 5 min to your walking, or 5 lb to your weightlifting.
The most important thing is to NOT GIVE UP.
You don't have to be a champion weightlifter, or walk for 3 hours a day, or eat 1200 calories for 3 years, you just have to keep trying.
Here's a tool you might find helpful.
This calculator will tell you not only your BMI, but how many servings of various foods to eat to maintain that weight.
If you enter your healthy goal weight (from a BMI chart), this will help you plan your food intake.
https://www.bcm.edu/research/centers/childrens-nutrition-research-center/healthyeatingcalculator/eatingCal.html
Here's a BMI chart: http://www.shapeup.org/bmi/bmi6.pdf
The good news is that even though it's hard for you to exercise right now, if you control your calorie intake you'll still lose weight."Most weight loss occurs because of decreased caloric intake."
Having so much to lose, you might be able to healthfully get rid of 3-5 lb per week. Even 2 is reasonable.
For 1 lb, cut 500 cal per day from what you're eating now.
If you're currently 550, you'd need 5500 cal to maintain that, so 5000 would have you losing 1 lb per week, 4500 would be 2 lb per week, 4000 is 3 lb, 3500 is 4 lb, 3000 is 5 lb.
That's still an awful lot of food, especially if you start eating mostly healthy foods. You might find you don't even want to eat 3000.
When you hit a plateau, or lose 10 lb, reevaluate your calories, drop another 100.
When you get down to 10x your healthy goal weight, keep it there.
Here's a post I did about motivation & encouragement.

I am sitting here in absolute tears for you and the little boy inside you who had to endure so much suffering at such an early age. You should have never had to go through any of that. Mothers are supposed to protect their children, not turn their backs on their pain. I have no idea how she could do that to you. It makes me want to hold and comfort that little boy and tell him everything will be alright. You are amazing for making it through all of that and still wanting to go on and realize a better future and life for yourself. Not everyone has that kind of courage and I am so proud of you for that. You will make it, I have faith in you. You sound like such a loving human being and you deserve all life has to offer you, all you have to do is take it !!! I will send you a friend request and we can help support each other and I am sure you will have many others wanting to support you as well. Take care and keep looking ahead, you will get there.0

Thanks for sharing your story. I know how difficult that can be. You can do this!0

I am sending huge hugs in your direction...along with good luck wishes and positive vibes!!0

Another speechless person...I am so glad you wrote that all down and maybe lifted some of that emotional weight off of you. Someone else said it and I agree...you are an awesome writer. Rarely do I read these long postings in their entirety. So now I am going to beg. I beg of you to stick with this. Please please dont give up. I friended someone on here a while ago who was in your same shoes.(weight wise) Sadly, he would log for a day or two and be active..then a month would go by and nothing. He scoffed at anyone who gave him a little tough love. He has been a member now for a year and still 0 pounds lost. I eventually unfriended him because, well not to sound selfish but, it was too sad for me. I would love to follow you on your journey. Logging on daily, reading the inspirational stories, keeping track of your calories, learning learning learning...all help tremendously.
Please dont give up, you deserve this, and your niece deserves this.0 -
O.M.G., I am just blown away by your story. It certainly puts my itty bitty struggles into perspective. You are a brave warrior, my friend, having been through so much and come through it this far and now on your way to not only survival but a better, healthier, happier, more rewarding life. Do you have any idea how inspiring you are to someone out there who needs just a small amount of the courage that you've shown here? All I can say is well done and keep up the good work. One day at a time, one foot in front of the other. You have a whole big family of supportive friends here and we all need each other. Keep posting your progress and don't ever give up on yourself. God bless you! :flowerforyou:0

Holy cow. :noway: You've certainly been through a lot. But you know what? you survived. And as others have said, there are some folks around here who have weighed what you weighed, and they've lost and improved their lives tremendously. I hope you can hook up with them for inspiration and guidance. If you're not already, consider a Ketogenic diet.

Oh, wow. I'm sending so much support. I'm so sad for all you've been through, and so happy that you've reached a turning point. I'm sure you have a long, long road ahead of you... but reaching each and every one of those little milestones will hopefully keep you going! I wish you so much success. I can tell that inside, you are such a loving, caring person, and that your sister's love has had a huge impact on your life. Way to go for starting your journey. I think you'll make lots of friends here.0

I am weeping uncontrollably right now. You are a very gifted writer and have a beautiful spirit. Many blessings on your path!0

I am hoping that your weight loss journey is one of pride and fulfillment. Unlike many of the circumstances that you've faced, this is certainly within your control and you appear to have the right mindset to tackle it straight on. I wish you the very best and look forward to following your journey as you are able to post your own successes here on MFP. Stay stong!0

I agree. baby steps. Get used to moving more, smaller portions and logging everything, then eventually start tweaking the macros to get the best percentages for you.
Enjoy the pool at your sister's! My first activity was in the water too. It really helped me get moving without the stress and pain in the knees. Even if you just walk around in the water, the resistance will help (besides, it's FUN!).
Congrats on taking the first steps and on your progress so far.0 -
I'll be looking for your continued successes here on MFP.
Perhaps get some grief counseling. The anger you feel toward your niece and yourself may stem in part from the loss of your beloved sister.
Forgive yourself.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. You have incredible insight into your own life, and even with such incredible traumas in your life you still take responsibility. Please take heart and know that there are others here like you. I am like you. Thank you.0

Keep it up!!! You deserve to be healthy and happy!0
