Today marks my one year anniversary of my weightloss journey. In the past year I have lost 67 lbs, going from 215 to 148. (from a size 18 pants to now a size 6) I have lost 11 inches from my hips, from 47 to 36. I have lost 11 inches from my waist, from 41 to 30. I can now run a 5k. A year ago I could barely run a block. A year ago I tried zumba and thought I was going to die. Now I am in the process of getting zumba instructor certified. I can now do kickboxing and I kick *kitten* at it. I am in the middle of doing a boot camp program and I am one of the most fit people there. I have never felt more strong or powerful in my life. But most of all I have never felt more confident in myself, emotionally and physically. I have literally saved my own life. I say all this to tell you guys if you are just starting out you CAN and WILL do this. I still have a little way to go but I will get there eventually. Thanks to all my friends who have been here for me the past year in some way. You all mean so much to me and I truly think I couldn't have done it without you.

    I believe in you.

We are really similar. I was at 213 and before I got on here I had lost 7 pounds. Now I'm on here and I want to get to between 145 and 140. What are some big tips you have for losing at a steady rate? Do you have any preferred exercise besides running?

You are awesome! I am so happy for you. I hope my journey is as rewarding.
  • Wow! Inspirational. I'm going to do some sit ups as soon as I get off the computer! I tried Zumba and it kicked my butt! I thought it was great. I remember thinking the instructor rocked to be able to do all that and still speak. I was glad I brought a towel to class.
  • Congratulations INDEED!!! Very very inspiring More than a Job well done, this is excellence at its best!!! Thanks for the encouragement.!!!! Inspired and motivated to future of looking back and sharing similar weightloss success too.

    Thanks everybody!!!

Someone asked what other exercises I do besides running.....

    -Zumba
    -Kickboxing
-"30 Day Shred" DVD by Jillian Michaels
-"Billy's Boot Camp" DVD's by Billy Blanks
    -Yoga & Pilates
-Good old fashioned sit ups and pullups as well as some light weight training.

I slowly worked my way up to all of this. I initially started out with just walking and trying to do the "30 Day Shred" without dying!!

I don't have a gym membership so I do the majority of my fitness at home.
The zumba and kickboxing I do at a local studio that offers the classes to the public. An added bonus is its within walking distance.

  • Dani, thank you so much for sharing. I am 5' 4" and weigh 215. I found you words very inspirational. I started just a few days ago, but seeing your photos made me take photos of myself this morning. I have a lot of work ahead and I hope I follow in your footsteps. When you've been overweight all your life, it's hard to maintain hope, but your words and photos have really helped. Thanks again!
