lynn, you know we'd. Love to hear about all youve done, but never forget that twhat you do now is appreciated by all of us. We love to hear you sing, and post.
Wow, Phoebe...thanks...those are words to make one think...:flowerforyou:

The allotment idea..I never heard of that before. I hope your veggies do well, Pink.

Maddie--you won't do... by the way, I saw Billy Ray Cyrus' pic on the internet today...he wishes he had never put Milley in Hannah Montana...he says it broke up his whole family...It made me think of a cd I had of his, "The Best of Billy Ray Cyrus" so I went looking and found it in my cd library...I pulled it out, dug out my harmonicas...danced, played and sang. I never had noticed how many keys that boy can sing in(you notice how younger people become girls and boys:huh: ). I played harmonica with his songs in c, g, d, a and e...that's a good range of keys. I am really sorry for Billy. He is a native son to our state.:brokenheart:
It was really fun to do that. I'll have to think of another one tomorrow.
So, Maddie, I got up offa that thing...as you like to say:laugh:
Hubby, is wanting to go somewhere this weekend for a couple of nights. I may lose my days again... I have a laptop and he has internet but I don't know that he would want to load the MFP apps on his phone. We'll see.

Marie-glad you are having a good, peaceful day.
Speaking of beans and fiber. Thanks to Buzz's imput, I have changed my diary to show the fibers and added more fiber the scale is doing better. Maybe me too:bigsmile:

Sandy-look how well you are doing with your excercise...I think Elli is right...you guys have got this far and the last few pounds are ALWAYS harder...believe it or not , I've been there before. I would agree that your muscle is weighing more. That's good because you are burning calories while you rest...isn't that good to know.

Connie is always saying to shake up our bodies by changing what we do everyday. Vicki's program backs that up. Look how well she is doing by changing every l7 days...I believe that is right. Since I didn't intend to post this much, I am not using the notebook...and am trying to do this by memory..Uh yeah...taking your lives into my own hands:laugh:  just don't hold it against me if I get something wrong...I am entitled...that is one thing about getting older...WE are ALL entitiled..:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

I just saw the UPS driver come up to the door. Now, if we hauled pkgs up and down the steps of truck like those people do we would have skinny legs in our shorts like they do. Yeah, He had on shorts. Anyway...I got side tracked.

You all have a good weekend if I am not back on here...to tell you later.:flowerforyou:

Maddie - you and Lynn both crack me up! Go piss around a pretzel????? Really? too funny!

Lynn - you're not kidding! At our age we can get all kinds of things wrong! My Dad is 93, he had open heart surgery in Sept. He's recovering well but still waiting to drive. Yesterday he told me "i'm 93! I can do whatever I want! I'm going to take myself driving in a parking lot and make sure my ears work and my eyes work and my feet work!" omg - he cracked me up too!

My vitalicious stuff came today! muffin tops! yum to eat! not so good hanging over my pants!:embarassed: Anyway - i'm excited to try them! I took out an apple crumb one to try before the gym. Did i already tell you guys that???????? yea, i'm trying to do this by memory - and mine sure isn't that great!:ohwell:

Sandy - i think you called me something like "tiny little thing" i love you - thank you!

Thanks Irene for posting on the Just Bekuz FB page!

Why don't you just add Metamucil or Benefiber to your drinks or food. No taste at all.

Connie - sorry, now i remember - a cheesehead who relocated to the MO Ozarks. It's pretty there. Humid in the summer though isn't it?

No more humid that it was back on the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan where we lived for 46 years.

Went to Silver Sneakers this morning and the Fit 4 Life crowd swelled the ranks of exercisers to the point that some of us had to stand. If you've ever done 45 minutes of "chair" exercises standing up, I challenge you to try it. I've never worked so hard. Instead of having the chair support your body weight while doing the exercises, you are supporting it. To say I was "dewy" when we were done is an understatement.

Having a "heart health" screening in the morning so I have to fast from 7:00 PM tonight. Then at noon I'm scheduled for a PAD screening. Both are free programs offered by our local medical center. With the cost of health care skyrocketing, I take advantage of every "free" thing I can.

Found one of our local food marts carries the Vita muffins. I'm gonna pick some up tomorrow and see what the fuss is all about.

Feeling a little under par, having some tummy pains, I think a little rest is in order so no exercise today.

Elli, thanks for the encouragement,I do get too hung up on the scale and my weight has always fluctuated so I am sure I am just in a funk today.
I went to face book and liked Bekuz Products. Is it a new site for the hard of hearing??

Pink, don't every feel like you are struggling alone, that is why we are here, to help each other. You can certainly steal my "pity pot", in fact you can keep it, so I don't use it anymore.
Glad Elli asked about the allotment, for some reason I thought it had something to do with money.:ohwell:

Phoebe, loved your picture of your kitty in the truck. (face book)

I am going to have to try those vitalicious muffins that everyone is talking about, are they only bought online?

Maddie, love your Minnie Mouse, where are you finding these wonderful graphics? I'm with you, no cauliflower for a bedtime snack for me, which is why Barbie lost all her weight and I have not. :grumble:
Special needs people, kids and adults are always awesome. And between you and Lynn, you keep us smiling.

Lynn, you are so funny, I love reading your posts. Keep dancing and moving and grooving. :flowerforyou: Are you talking about the Viki that used to be with us??

Marie, be sure to let us know what the doctor says tomorrow, we are all waiting with you.

That is all for now, time to make dinner and hit the couch.

 Okay, you caught me in a "goof" ..it was another Vicki..and I was thinking she was on this forum...see how badly I needed the help that Buzz gave me with the Notebook. BUT...I am entitled... anyway..whether I am entitled or not I am slightly embarassed....:blushing: ..just slightly...mind you.
    Sandy, catch me every time....

I hope your tummy pains get better. :flowerforyou:
I'll try to check in before I leave and see how it went for Jerry. Wishing you good news, Marie.

Amanda-what you are going through brings back a lot of sad memories. My Litlle Granddaughter lived 2 hours. It's rough..don't feel guilty about your babies...enjoy them...

    'til tomorrow...

Well, it's Friday in NZ and a bit cooler today - should do a bit more exercise...a friend just dropped her little white poodly dog off for me to babysit for the weekend...she is one of my little Holly's pups and quite adorable..she won't go to anyone else except "nana" at least we can still go out tonight for a few wines which is our Friday night treat and then get fish'n'chips on the way home...a kiwi tradition - hope everyone has a great weekend.
  • Hello Ladies, another good day for me. Did a 20 minute walk today and it was great! I miss walking, sooo spoiled by driving I don't give walking a second thought.

ELLI, do you have worries of it happening again, did your doctor give you any restrictions?
MADAGOOGA, it has to be one of the worst places to have an emergency, I don't have a TV. I gave that up over eleven years ago, no time to watch it.

Back to work at Tim's on Tuesday for a few hours then again on Thursday. Got my EI application done today so hopefully things will get into gear.
Hope all is well here. Don't give up!

Hi everyone from cold and windy Saskatchewan. We are no longer melting!! Yesterday I drove home from the city in a blizzard. Dave had to get the snow blower out today. Just as I was getting ready to leave this morning I heard about an accident on our highway so I was a big suckie and got Dave to drive me. I was so glad that I did. It snowed more today and they tell us that there are several cold days ahead. Yuck!!
The snow might not be melting but surprise, surprise --- I am, lost 3 pounds this week for a total of 9 pounds!!

Neil is doing well. He walked from his bedroom to the living room today. Tonight he called in a panic that the bedcovers were caught in the pin in his toe. He didn't want to knock on the wall for two reasons -- first the other guys were sleeping and secondly the staff person told him he was rude to do that when he called for help to get up and that he should get up himself!!! Consequently he was still in bed when I got there. I told him to just knock on the wall when he was ready to get up. The same staff person was still there when he knocked and asked me if he did that at home. I 'patiently' explained that that is the only way he can get our attention, so yes, that is what we tell him to do. Grrrrhhhhh!! For the new folks, Neil had his vocal chord paralyzed during surgery a few months ago so is unable to talk other than a whisper. Glad there are more good staff than not so good!

You girls were busy today but you provide lots of fun reading.

Welcome, Pink. I know you will like it here.

Sandy -- sorry that you aren't well. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Marie -- You and Jerry are always in my prayers.

I will catch up with the rest of you folks one of these days!! I am not used to being away from home daily and I am pooped!

Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: we had good enough weather this afternoon for me to go outside and pull weeds for an hour and for Jake to trim around the edges of the lawn with the week whacker.....now it's about 33 degrees

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I hope you feel better tomorrow and don't get discouraged about those last few pounds, just keep up your good habits and dance a little more to burn some more calories and they'll be gone soon.

:flowerforyou: Elli, I'm sorry to hear that your business isn't doing so well right now.....ours isn't either and we're working at not being discouraged

:flowerforyou: Marie, I'm thinking good thoughts for you and Jerry

:flowerforyou: Lynn, I get mixed up between the two threads I post on and feel like all my friends know each other

:flowerforyou: Gayla, I'm glad to hear that Neil is able to walk better now......he has completely internalized "never, never, never give up"

:flowerforyou: Marilyn, glad walking is going better for you.....I love to walk and would be very sad if I couldn't walk as much as I want to.

:flowerforyou: I walked over 1:flowerforyou: 10,000 steps today even though Jake took the dogs to the dog park.......some of the walking was while I was working in the yard and some of it was jogging in front of the TV but it's all good

:flowerforyou: Maddie, thanks for the encouragement about our house selling........since I've been eating healthy, I have a greater love for vegetables and I've found that you can eat a bigger bowl of vegetables for the same calories as a tiny bowl of something else and I love to eat, so I choose vegetables.......someone said that the best eating plan is the one you'll stick with so you have to find foods that are healthy and satisfying so you'll stay with the plan.

:flowerforyou: Pink, welcome to the group, your garden sounds great.....I love working in my yard even if it's just a small piece of ground.

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.....   so it's off to bed we go....the poodles are already in bed waiting

Hi Sneakers and special welcome to Pink - I'm the 'other Brit' and the Sneakers have made me feel so welcome. Like you I am 62 and have found that the encouragement I get on this site is keeping me focused and the weight is gradually coming off. I just wish laughter burnt more calories - I'd be stick thin - I am still laughing over 'pissing round a pretzel'!!

Had a great day with Ruby (6) yesterday. She played in the morning while I cleaned her house (her Mum is my daughter Dawn). Then we got cleaned up and went to the garden centre and had a fantastic lunch. Ruby had sausages, chips (french fries ladies) and peas, with a blackcurrant drink and a chocolate ice cream sundae for dessert. Granny had cottage pie (that's ground beef cooked with onions and any other vegetables of your choice, topped with mashed potato and then finished in the oven to make the top brown and crisp) and a glass of water! Then we went to the next village and walked around to get some shopping for granny and then called into another garden centre where they have lots of rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, parrots and fish. Granny was pretty pooped by the time we got back to Ruby's house!!

Anyway, I went home and had a light supper before going back and collecting Emma (16) so that we could go swimming - was I ready for my bed!!

Today we are all off to see Ollie, Dawn's eldest child. He is a trainee instructor at an activity centre and we are looking forward to seeing him again. The two little girls, Ruby and Louise (3) have been counting the number of 'sleeps' until they see their big brother, who they adore. Mum and Granny have been busy baking and are taking lots of homemade cakes for Ollie and his co-trainees. Dawn has made a big lasagne to take with us for dinner tonight and is getting a big piece of meat to roast for us all on Sunday. Granny is taking the ingredients with her to make a huge apple crumble - that's sliced apples which are covered with a mixture of flour and butter which have been rubbed together to resemble breadcrumbs and then baked in the oven. A really great pudding for cold dank days. Several of Ollie's colleagues will be at the centre for the weekend so Dawn and I think we will be cooking for about 15 on Sunday. It will be such a blessing to share a meal with such enthusiastic youngsters.

I am taking my walking boots with me as Ollie wants to take us for a walk around the lakes which form part of the site and where they do their canoeing and kayaking. The weather forecast is for rain but I will have good waterproofs with me and spare dry clothes, so it should be fun.

Anyway all, I must finish the packing and have some lunch before I go off at 2.00 and I will let you know next week how the weekend went.

By the way Gayla - well done for putting the staff straight re Neil and the knocking on the wall. As you know I have a brother in a nursing home and I sometimes have to lay down the law with the staff over their response times.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone and I will hold all of you in my prayers, especially those who have health challenges.

Pam  :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:

PS: I wonder if any of you might like this muffin recipe. I'm afraid it is in metric measurements but, if you have problems let me know and I will try to find conversions into US measurements. xx

    Apricot and Walnut Breakfast Muffins

These are very light and surprisingly low on sugar

    275g Self Raising Flour
1 Level teaspoon of baking powder
    2 Eggs
    75g Caster sugar
    225mls Milk
100g Butter – melted and cooled slightly
    1 Teaspoon of vanilla extract
175g Ready to eat dried apricots – chopped
    50g Walnuts – chopped

Arrange 12 muffin cases in muffin tin or on a baking tray
    Pre-heat oven to 200C

Place all ingredients in a bowl and beat well to mix.
    Divide evenly between paper cases
Bake in the middle of oven for around 25-30 minutes until well risen and golden.
    Cool on wire tray

These are also really yummy with blueberries instead of apricots and walnuts

These can be cooked two days ahead and then refreshed in a moderate oven, 180C, for 10 minutes.

Can be cooled, packed and frozen for up to 4 months. Thaw at room temperature for about 2 hours and refresh in a moderate oven as above.

Good morning everyone. Cool and grey in my little part of England but I have a hen house to clean out so will have to venture outside once I've finished here.
 Elli ~ I will do my best to get a photo uploaded/downloaded (I never know the difference!!) but it might take me a while to get my head around the technicalities. Hold that thought and I'll persevere!!
 Madagooga ~ Consider "posh" yours!; I've got "pity pot" to play with!! It's my belief that our eyesight deteriorates as we get older so we can't see ourselves properly in mirrors. One of God's many good ideas!!
 Hello old bat Pam and thanks for the welcome. You're right, everyone is terrific on here and I can tell from reading through the posts that a sense of humour reigns. Your rundown of the food you've enjoyed while out with your family makes me realise I'm going about this the wrong way. I've increased my level of exercise now the awful winter weather has departed (for now!) but struggle to get my level of calories high enough. I'm averaging 500 below my target which is ridiculous. From today I will eat properly and follow your example. That muffin recipe is right up my street too as those ready to eat apricots are one of my favourites. I'll bake at the weekend and let you know how it goes.
 Nyll54 ~ Thanks, I'll let you know how the growing season goes. I've managed to dry a few seeds from a Galia melon I eat last autumn and a week ago put them in a container of dampened paper towels, sat it on a heated radiator and they germinated within days and are now in individual pots on the window seat so I'm gaining confidence about what we may be able to grow. The cost of food is increasing so much in this country it seemed a good idea to grow our own.
Your comments about shaking up our routine has hit home the same as Pam's food diary so thanks for that. It's the sort of good advice I need.
 Caliecat ~ We don't usually have a problem with water over here as the weather is changeable any time of year. We have placed two large water butts by the shed which fill up via guttering and a downpipe from the roof and it's amazing how much comes off a small area. Rain in England sometimes has to be seen to be believed!!
I love blackberries and a thornless variety is a brilliant idea when it comes to picking the fruit. Does that mean blackberry and apple pie will be on the menu this autumn?? I'm fascinated by the idea of a flax seed muffin. I haven't seen flax seed over here. Do you buy them from a specialist store?
 Cschachel ~ I hope your day goes well for you. I'm sure you'll let everyone know. I was surprised at your comment about the cost of health care. Didn't Obama get a bill passed to offer free health care for everyone or have I got that wrong?
 Sandydur ~ Thanks for the pity pot. I'll look after it and put it to regular use!! I wish the allotment was something to do with money. The thought of digging for gold might make the heavy work that bit easier!!
 Hello Lafla and thanks for the welcome. Your description of your Saskatchewan weather sent a shiver down my back, around my tummy and into the nether regions. Brrrr!! I remember winters in Toronto when I lived there.
I'm sorry to read about Neil's experiences. Well done for maintaining your patience but I'd be inclined to take a hammer in for him to use against that wall.

    *
That's it, hen house here I come. Have a great day everyone.

P.S Hi barbiecat, how did I miss you?? I'm sure we'll have plenty in common. Keen gardeners always have something to talk about!

    Happy Friday!!

OMG, don't you just love the English ladies??? I just love the words they use to describe everything. I can hear their accents loud and clear and love every word.

Pink, I don't know why but cleaning your hen house made me laugh. I presume you raise chickens for eggs, correct?? Don't be using that "pity pot" too often, it just wouldn't be "posh".
It is important to eat all your calories Pink, otherwise your body will go into starvation mode and you will gain weight from not eating. Just eat healthy foods and not junk food. :drinker:
Uh, no Obama did not pass a bill for free health care for everyone, no such thing here. We do have medicare but we pay for it and in most case an additional supplement is needed to help with what medicare doesn't cover including medicines.
In our case my husband pays an additional premium for medicine since he takes such expensive meds, I however, take no prescription medicine. Health care in the United States unfortunately is a big problem. :grumble:

Pam, have a great weekend with Ollie (love that name) and the rest of your family. What do you mean by activity centre? Is it a government program or is it a sports type program?
It sounds like the English love to bake and are darn good at it!!! Have a wonderful time.

Gayla, I am glad Neil is getting around well but make sure you set the staff straight as to taking care of our boy. They don't want all of us "SNEAKERS" coming over there!!!
Our weather has been warmer and the snow is melting, but this is Chicago and we can never be sure when the next snow storm will hit.

Marilyn, great job on the walking, keep up the good work. I am glad you are ok after your scare, but it did make for a really good laugh, thanks for sharing with us.

Judy, baby sitting for puppies has got to be so much fun, hopefully she is trained. Hope you had fun on your traditionally Friday night outing. :drinker:

Lynn, don't be embarrassed, I am lucky I know my own name let alone all the wonderful ladies on this post. But now I have to ask who is Amanda??? :ohwell:

Connie, how did your screenings go? Did you get any results yet?? I told my husband this morning to see if he can find those vitalicious muffins so I too can see what everyone is raving about. :drinker:

Marie, hope the doctor has some encouraging news about Jerry today. Still in my prayers.

Maddie, I think I learned that expression in Al Anon but have never heard "go piss around a pretzel". There must be a meaning to that, did your mother ever explain what that meant? :noway:
You make me laugh so much you are so good for our health.

Elli, thanks for the encouragement, actually that pound came right off so it must have been salt. I am back to the last four pounds which I swear are never going to come off. I won't give up and thank goodness I have this wonderful group to listen to my complaints. You are the best.

I feel better today,I did take one of my husband's stomach pills and I think it is helping. My step daughter is coming in today from California and staying until Sunday, so it could be stress. :glasses:

    Have a wonderful day!!

    Good Morning everyone!

Marie - keep us posted on Jerry please.

Connie - i forgot, you moved from Lake Michigan so of course you are used to the humidity. I remember when i moved from NY to Colorado in 1970 1 of the things i loved so much about it here was very little humidity. Of course, wehave to water a lot more.

Sandy - i KNOW, the English ladies - like you i can just hear them! I thought allotment had something to do with money too - I don't know though Pink - digging in the dirt and having something grow that can sustain us - i actually think that could be better than gold! What's that old saying? give a woman a fish and she eats for a day - teach her to fish and she eats for life? something like that:wink: Thanks for asking Lynn who Amanda is - i have the feeling she got her posts into 2 different threads crossed. And Lynn, my heart goes out to you and your kids, losing a baby - has to be the worst:cry::cry: .
I hope your step daughter doesn't cause you too much stress Sandy - i know for me - stress leads to eating (of course, for me, anything can lead to eating:ohwell: ). "let go and let God". I know that one can help me through stressful times. Glad you're feeling better.

Marilyn - thank you for your concern! Were you referring to my back? no lasting problems or restrictions. I was doing a LOT of physical work around then - we were renovating my old farm house.

Galya - AWESOME that Neil is walking! NOT awesome that those darn people don't want him knocking on the wall  It's the perfect solution. Sandy's right - they don't want us all paying them a visit:noway: OMG - another THREE pounds?!?!?!? That is GREAT! You are doing so well! Keep it up! How are the floors coming along?

Pink - no worries - i'm a computer flake - takes me forever to figure out stuff that is second nature to some of these ladies - and most of their grandkids!:embarassed:

Barbie - sorry to hear about your business too. My old business is doing all right but we always worry because the FDA and/or EPA can mess with us. That's why we bought the new one. The new one is SO out of my area of expertise - i never should have gotten it. It's a great little business - i just hope i, in my ignorance, don't run it into the ground. I'm going to a SEO Optimization class at our local community tonight and next Friday. Hopefully that will help.

Thanks for all of you who checked out our Facebook page - Just Bekuz Products - and liked it! I really appreciate it.:drinker:

Oh my - how i've babbled on and on!!!!!!!! Happy Friday everyone!

I'm sorry, ladies, that I have not posted recently. I've been to the doctor twice this week, have an appointment with another specialist next Tuesday, another with the doctor I saw this week next Friday and the week after, I have one with yet another specialist. All of these appointments are costing me $30.00 a piece which I know I should be grateful that my insurance takes care of the rest, but by the time I get through just these planned appointments, I will have spent $150.00 on doctor's in just over a two week period. I don't make that much money. Anyway, sorry, that is my rant for this morning. Getting old is the pits!!!

I wanted to share something with you that I borrowed from another thread on mfp. It comes from a thread called "Just For Today" which was started by CricketKate. Her comments the other day made a lot of sense to me. So here it is:

"Just for Today:I will focus on ideas vs reality, or what I like to call "The Rear View Mirror Principle".

During the day a lot of thoughts and ideas come to me: "I want to have a fuzzy sock day. I want to lay in bed all day and read a book. I want to eat junk food. I want to watch movies that I haven't watched in a while. Exercise is too hard. Eating right sucks. A nap would be more fun then a stroll on the dreadmill." Last night, post workout, I read someone's status that they were trying to get up the enthusiam for a workout, but a nap sounded better. It struck me how often (Most minutes of every day) I have the same thoughts. But having already completed my workout for the day, I was able to honestly say, that although the idea of the nap is better going forward, the reality of the workout is way better in the rear view mirror. What do you want to see in your rear view mirror at the end of the day? "

I have really thought about this the last few days. I got behind on my walking schedule and today I have so many things to do that I really could come up with a million excuses for why I didn't have time to exercise. Then, I remembered this posting by CricketKate and decided that when I looked back over this day and what I had accomplished, doing my exercise would be something that I could be proud of. So, I got on the dreadmill (a word I borrowed from CricketKate) and once I started walking and listening to music, I felt so good that I ended up walking for three miles instead of the one mile I had planned on. I don't know why I fight so hard against doing something that makes me feel better physically, mentally and emotionally. The rest of my day will be better because I walked this morning.

I hope that you all are doing well. I haven't had time to catch up on all of your posts, but I really enjoy this group. You guys are the greatest and I keep coming back to mfp just to connect with you.

By the way, my birthday is October 4th.
  • Good day everyone, just up from resting my back a bit, did too much sitting yesterday. Did my exercises, they sure do make my back and legs feel so much better. Very windy now, opened the windows and one screened door to let the house get a good blow through. The cats all scrambled to every window they could reach, buttons ran around barking at every sound from outside makeing sure she was noticed.
First appointment for physio is made, I'm so hoping I will be able to get back to 95% normal after this is all done. It is so nice spending time at home, I don't feel like a prisoner of time. I may get me out for another short walk this afternoon and then do somemore exercises tonight before bed, just to put my spine in good shape before laying on it for the night.
Hope all is well here, catch you gals later.

Man oh man, I cannot keep up! Today, I want to know if Elli liked the muffin???

Sandy: I think the idea behind "go piss around a pretzel" was that if you think about squatting and doing it, it would take quite awhile and we would be out of her hair.

Everyone: I want to go swimming, too
    I want a garden, too
I want to lose 3 lbs, too
I want to know where Buzz and Bushman are, too
I want to see a good butt in the rearview mirror, too
I want to wear a bikini, too.............oops, got carried away  That will NEVER happen!!

  • Hi there!
i made some little notes to try to remember more of whats been posted since my last post, but plz excuse me for missing anyone.
xyla, very good advice, and it may be just what I need to hear. I found myself in the same situation, nap vs exercise, and I let nap win. I let nap win, not nap won! Thanks!
elli, 93 is wonderful for your dad to be so strong and determined. He is not giving up! If you dont mind me asking, what is your main business?
where are Buzz and Barb? I believe Joann, aka bushman, is out of town, not sure. Hope her knee is ok.
lynn, are you having a great time? We dont know where you are, but take care, you and Maddie should go on youtube! Or make a video for youtube, however that works! Talent and humorous would make a great show!
irene, are you on your trip to OR. Yet? Be safe,my friend!
pam, thx for the recipe, it is as much fun to read as your posts! We dote on your lovely 'accentm lol! As if none of us here have accents! Be safe on your visit and careful on a rainy,(muddy?) Hike. We have walking poles here, do you?
Pink! I adore your posts! Hen houses brings back childhood memories, but not about cleaning them! Yes, the pohto in the ticker is my 'Possum'. She is my oldest cat, but still my baby. My other one is Budda, a big black male, but also a big baby, spoiled rotten and then some. I should mention there. Is flax seed and flax seed meal. Before you make. A purchase, ck your recipe. We can buy it easily in the states and online.
Maddie,Maddie,Maddie- I love you! Funny Lady. Smart too. Creative, do you want me to keep going? Lol! Thank you for your humor!
hi Marie, yes we have a microwave, but it is only 500 watts, so it is a bit slow, 8 won' use it for raw meats. But, good news for me, Jim told me
that the shipper at our last stop gave him some bags of broccoli. And stir fry veggies. He use them to take the temp. Of the veggies, so they are not for sale coz he pokes a hole in the bag with the thermometer. Yay, I say! I miss steamed veggies out here on the road. Hey, I spent an hour yesterday on Linda's low carb website too! Great Minds!! I love it, along with her honest opinions. Did you know Polaners makes sugar free with added fiber? So does Splenda. Maddies suggestion about benefiber and metamucil are good ideas too. Have you heard of Smooth Move tea? It contains senna, which can be a bit too strong sometimes.
Gayla, you rock girlfriend, WW is working! So glad Neil can get support from his family. The home employees should be more understanding, and not so rigid. Flexibility should be a job requirement. Tell Neil hi from me.
Sandy dear one, hope you feel much better today. 1 lb down is xcellent! No Meds is fantastic! I am truly impressed by that. I am on five meds, and dh is on about ten.
Vitalicious should be in a grocer near you. Our Publix markets keep them in the freezer section. I think vitatops are very good. Bananut nut, mmm! They have a decent amount of fiber. If you go to the website, you can view the nutritional info on each type. At least you could the last time I checked.

    Happy Friday, everyone!

Here is a computer tip of the day that many of you may find useful. When you want to reply to many posts but consolidate your responses in just one message, right click on the "Reply" button, and in the pop up screen, chose open in a new window. A second browser window will open with just the reply box in it. Now you can toggle back and forth between your response and the posts you're responding to, cutting and pasting as you go. To further help things, use the bracket-quote-bracket in front of what you pasted, and the bracket-backslash-quote-bracket ([ /quote ] with out the spaces) after what you've pasted.
Sandy said: Connie, how did your screenings go? Did you get any results yet??
The heart screening results will come in the mail in a few weeks, but I got the PAD results immediately and to my great relief they were completely normal. A score of 0.90 or above is normal, and below that, requires attention from a physician. My overall ABI score was 1.07, so excellent.
Sandy further said: I told my husband this morning to see if he can find those vitalicious muffins so I too can see what everyone is raving about.
The company web site (http://www.vitalicious.com) has a store finder. While the "Price Cutter" in our city didn't come up, other locations did so I called the local store and found they did, indeed, carry the Chocolate Muffin Tops. They sure aren't inexpensive ($5.00 for four), but I bought two boxes and I'll give them a try. You can also order from the web site.
Xyla posted: I wanted to share something with you that I borrowed from another thread on mfp. It comes from a thread called "Just For Today" which was started by CricketKate. Her comments the other day made a lot of sense to me. So here it is:

"Just for Today:I will focus on ideas vs reality, or what I like to call "The Rear View Mirror Principle".
I really love that principle. So often we moan and groan about what we don't have or didn't accomplish but if we would just take the time and make the effort to look back and appreciate what we do have and did accomplish we'd be pleasantly surprised.

I recently reconnected with a friend I hadn't seen or talked to since we graduated from 8th grade in 1955. We were chums as school mates and I always enjoyed time spent with her on their family's place in the country. There were 11 kids in their household and even though her dad was a dentist, money was always in short supply. My mom used to save my brothers out grown clothes for her brothers.

55 years is a lot of looking back on, and when I shared mine with her she responded that I had led an exciting life and accomplished so much. I've never thought of it that way, but in rereading what I had sent to her, realized she was right. My life has been anything but the norm, and I've been blessed.

Lynn, there is a grandchild missing from my family circle, too. Little Jessica would be 23 years old had she stayed with us. She was born on Halloween with Trisomy 18, a genetic disorder in which a person has a third copy of genetic material from chromosome 18, instead of the usual two copies. 50% of infants born with TR18 do not live beyond the first week of life. Jessica lived long enough to be baptized and to be loved. She looked like a pixie and died in my daughter's arm on her 30th day of life. My daughter's next pregnancy resulted in twins.

And now that's I've made everybody somber, I'm gonna take a nap. I spent 90 minutes at the gym between my screenings and I'm pooped.
  • My phone battery died, so I needed to plug it in.
Judy, I dont want to neglect you! I would love to puppy sit. We have cats, but I love all critters, and especially dogs. You stay busy dont you? And you swim too, good for you!
Marilyn, glad you are improving, and be careful! Dont want a repeat of the other day!
Barbie, we should start to call you 'high Stepper'!! I can barely imagine 10,000 steps, and you manage 20,000?? Amazing. Thanks for your great example.
we will be heading to lunch in a few minutes. Then we will have about eight more hours here, in AZ, by the way, then we must rush to GA!,which is the way it often goes, hurry up and wait, then go, go, go!
take care of yourselves, and yes Maddie, good words, Watch out for the other guy!

Maddie - you're awesome. I want to wear a bikini too - WHOOPS!!!!!! not only is that never happening - it never HAS happened! I was a chubby kid, fat teen (with humongous boobs - sorry if it's TMI). Those muffins are GOOD! well, i've only eaten the apple crumb so far - but delicious and filling

Marilyn - BE CAREFUL!!!! give yourself some time to heal!

Xyla - thank you for sharing that rear view mirror stuff! i really like that!

Phoebe - my main business is Goodwinol Products Corp - you can look at our website. It's our old family business. I always say my Dad turned it over to me because he didn't like having a daughter who was otr  I've been so lucky and blessed to run it. I've used smooth move tea in the past - that's funny, i just recommended it to a gf today.

Connie - wow, your family lost a baby too. Thank you and Lynn both for sharing that - i can't imagine:brokenheart: I'm glad your daughters next pg was twins.

Going to a Search Engine Optimization class tonight - i'll try and check back in tomorrow. Hope everyone has a happy weekend!!!!!

They have a bus to take him up there. and bring him back Thats a good thing for the traffic is really bad going there. They took blood out of his hips( to see why he is anemic (.Butt)
So now we are waiting to see when he has this done. He goes in Monday to find out about the blood work. Thats about all we know now.

Marie: Tell Jerry that we are all thinking of him and praying for him and for you......a PET Scan is almost the same as an MRI or CT scan but it sees more. It's a good thing.

Elli: Same for me, except for the big boobs! Have them now but they are longer instead of rounder..... I tried the Vitalicious Brownies. They are ok but I like the muffin tops better. Deep chocolate with chocolate chips.

Wow, the Muffin tops are $4.59 here, too. You can order from the site, which I did, but the shipping is a little outrageous. They sound expensive but since you get the vitamins, the fiber and the taste, I don't think it's so bad considering what we probably spent on other kinds of junk foods or cakes. And, these stay with you even tho they are smaller. I like a little cool whip on them.

The weather was beautiful here today....went to the river to check on the camper. Nice sun and breeze. The river was calm and peaceful. But now, I want to see some GREEN!!! No more brown, no more white, no more mud....just green and maybe a little yellow!! Woo Hoo.....

    FOR LYNN BY THE MUPPETS:
It's not that easy being green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

    It's not easy being green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
    Or stars in the sky

But green's the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful
And I think it's what I want to be

Here is the report on Jerry
He has to have a pet/ct. What that is I don't know.

Marie, maybe I can help explain these procedures. I've had a little experience in this area and I believe it is better to know what they do and how they work than not know, and imagine the worst. Both types of scans are diagnostic tools that will help determine the best method of treatment for Jerry. Neither of them are painful but they are both a little uncomfortable as you have to lie very still in a confined space.

A PET scan (PET stands for positron emission tomography) uses a tiny amount of radio active material called a "tracer" (not enough to cause any harm), to detect disease in the human body. They will inject the tracer into a vein and once the substance travels through the blood and collects in organs and tissues (takes about an hour), they will ask Jerry to lie on a table which will go into a scanning machine which will give them a very accurate tracing of all the vital organs in his body. If he is uncomfortable in small spaces, the procedure may cause him some anxiety but there is no pain involved at all except the prick from the injection.

The CT scan does much the same thing but in a different way. He will also be asked to slide into a long narrow tube-like opening in a machine which will use X-ray technology to take a picture of his innards. The CT scan is not as accurate as the PET scan but it can look at our organs from different angles so the two technologies are often used together and then called a PET/CT scan, just as you said..

Jerry will be in more danger riding on the highway on the way to and from the tests than he will be during them. You are fortunate to be near a facility that offers them both in one place. The tracer from the PET scan will clear out of his body very quickly. A tiny number of people have an allergic reaction to the tracer but that is unlikely.

Hang in there Marie. And if you have any other questions, please message me privately and I'll try to give you an answer. The information I've given you is from my own experiences with our daughter-in-law, and from material we were given at the time.
  • Thanks for the update on Jerry. Im glad he will get a bus ride and not be driving. It will likely wear him out either way. Prayers are with you both, or os it for you? Maddie, thanks for the greenery. My fav color is green, Really!
    goodnight all
