Hello all. I've been checking in to read posts almost daily. I'm taking an online class so my computer time is spent posting there. However I am still logging my food daily. I'm learning to make better choices when eating out. Ate out twice last weekend and stayed in my cal range one day. The other day I went over my allotment by alittle bit, but I know it was the 2nd glass of wine and sharing a very large chocolate mousse cannoli. Yes still struggling with sugar but I am getting better.. I've been consistent with walking and added another mile today. I really need to pick up my weights to strengthen my Upper Body.
Barbie Cat -- WOW! WOW! and WOW again. Your pix give me the inspiration I need. Thank you for posting them.

Great pictures Barbie. So I am doing well this week and the scale preview is looking positive. I hope I can just stick with it. I am starting to find the rythm but it isn't as much fun as it used to be. I am not as happy about or looking forward to my treadmill as I used to. I miss that joy. I am having some fun with my pull up bar. I don't know how I will ever be able to acheive a full on pull up but at least it is something to strive for.
Funny story. Last night as we were laying down to sleep I naturally had yet another quick and intense hot flash. DH finally speaks his mind. He says "have you talked to a doctor about this?" I told him that it was completely normal. He then confides in me that he is very worried that I may become a case of SHC. (Spontaneous Human Combustion) the funny part is that he was actually serious. If hot flashes were a precursor to SHC then there would be a lot less women of age in the world
I hope you all have a great day.0 -
Good morning ladies,
Robin I know what you mean. I am doing it now cause I am losing but dont always have the joy. Barbie great pics. I remember those. I am not saying you have lost too much but I can see why people tell you that. Such a big difference. If you had always been that thin no one would say anything about it, but because you lost weight they think it is too much. I bet no one every said anything to you when you were overweight about you needing to lose weight. Love the pic of your grandson. So cute.
Today is last day on cycle 1 of plan. Tomorrow I start cycle 2 and I can add a few good carbs for next 17. I can also start doing more exercise hopefully. So far so good. I will weigh again tomorrow to see how I did for entire 17 days. will let you know how it goes.
We are going today to register Rhea for pre k in the fall. She is excited. In the fall it will just be me and Byron.
I am going to run some errands today also. Need some more good food. Summer will be great when all fruits and veggies are so fresh.
Had to get new HRM last night. got one that can do just watch or do chest strap also.
I got a new one for Christmas but when went to use it did not work. changed battery and nothing. Will have to ask daughter in law if she has receipt and where she got it from.
Have a lovely day ladies. Make good choices.

Whoa! I'm not sure what's up with me today but I've got cleaning frenzy. I've just finished completly emptying and cleaning the fridge freeezer and washing the inside down with lemon juice. Now I'm just about to rip up the carpet in the main living room. We are having new carpet laid next week and I like the idea of letting the floor air out before the new stuff goes down.
The downside of all the cleaning is that I'm not doing much in the way of formal exercise, but I'm moving so must be losing!
Hopefully we will get our new broadband tomorrow (fingers crossed!) so I'll be able to post more easily and stay up to date with all you lovely ladies.
Right, I'm off to take the carpet up so that I can get it to the dump before it closes.
Love to you all.

I've been AWOL since our move but I'm back now. I went WAY off the reservation between Thanksgiving and Valentines so I am just finishing up the 10 day detox I USUALLY do at the beginning of each year. :blushing:0

Susan - I am so glad to see you! I have been thinking about you and wondering where you were. Welcome back!
Amanda - You are definitely getting your exercise in! I can offer free room and board if you want to come to my house next!0 -
Hi everyone
I've had such withdrawal symptoms not been able to keep up with all my friends - but finally the internet works again. Yippeeee !!
So much to catch up on, I think it was on about page 10 or so the last time I was able to log on, I've had a quick peek seems we have some new additions to our family - but thought I'd let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'll try and catch up with the posts later.
I'm pleased to report that I have actually been jogging (twice last week at lunchtime) unfortunately my weight hasn't gone down :frown: but I'm going to keep on trying. Need to watch the portion sizes I think. Plan to go jogging again tomorrow lunchtime.
I hope everyone is keeping well, I've been fine, a bit fed up with not having the internet, but in the scheme of things that is nothing to get upset about.
Keep your fingers crossed that the internet doesn't go off again. We are due to change internet providers on March 1st so I hope it goes smoothly without any loss of internet. We'll have to wait and see.
Bye for now

:flowerforyou: Glad to see Susan back. There were several us that December de-railed.:drinker: Just get back on the track..with us.
Viv-Wizzy-:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: -so glad to see you back. I was hoping you were okay.
Geb:flowerforyou: -Just jump in and gab with us. I read your profile page. I had a boss when I worked for a Best Western, that was from Phoenix. She was very good to me. She gave me a large turquoise ring fashioned by a Native American living in your state. My DH's Uncle lived there for years. Good luck on MFP and the Forum.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Susan, welcome back.....I have been thinking of you a lot since we decided to sell our house and move to less expensive house about five miles away.....I remember that you and your hubby have a history of buying houses, fixing them up, then selling and moving and I thought about how you said you felt leaving the special features of each house behind and starting over.......I hope you'll be back to being a regular poster on this thread and get back to your healthy eating and exercising habits.
:flowerforyou: Joy, the thing that finally worked for me was to stay focused on nutrition dense food (using the food tracker helped a lot with that) and staying away from food that was fun, but not nutritious....the more I nourished my body, the healthier I felt, and the more willing I was to be active and burn calories and the more active I was and the more calories I burned, the better my metabolism got and the weight came off.....it didn't happen all at once but one baby step at a time, things got better
:flowerforyou: doobiedoo, I'm glad to hear from you again......you are right about not giving up......I hope we'll be hearing from you often again.....you are an important part of this thread.
:flowerforyou: Vicki, I am so thrilled with your success on your 17 day eating plan....it sounds like there's a lot of good nutrition involved......do the good carbs include oatmeal? Oatmeal and applesauce is a favorite snack.   low sodium and sticks to your ribs
:flowerforyou: Robin, getting back to work has been a huge shock to your system even though it's what you wanted......it will be awhile before you get back to the rhythm and joy you felt before......never, never, never give up......just look at the beautiful photos of you and the wedding to spur you on to more weight loss.....you can do it.
:flowerforyou: Amanda, I always count the kind of cleaning you're doing as exercise.....it's the way our ancestors kept slim and healthy and all those activities are definitely calorie burners
:flowerforyou: Viv, it's good to hear from you again....glad the jogging is still part of your life......portion sizes are certainly a problem for all of us
peanut butter is the worst for me:laugh:
:flowerforyou: Geb, welcome to the group......just jump in and tell us about yourself and respond to others and in no time you'll feel like part of the family......this is a warm, friendly. supportive group
:flowerforyou: Izzy, I'll be interested in hearing about how the new food plan works for you...keep us posted
 It was snowing at 7:30 this morning so my line dance class got canceled.....the teacher lives at the top of a steep hill and worried that she'd get to town and not be able to get home a few hours later........then the snow stopped so I was able to take the dogs to the dog park.....it started snowing again after lunch and hasn't stopped....I took the dogs out in the back and had to change jeans and socks because they were so wet and hang my coat and hat in the bathroom to dry.....it looks like about four inches so far with no signs of stopping....the cats are really cranky.....Haifa is standing on the table next to me and staring like he wants me to do something about the weather:laugh:
:flowerforyou: Wednesday is usually the day I get 20,000 steps between line dance, the dog park and the four and half mile walk with my friend.......I danced for an hour in the front hall and went to the dog park but my friend who comes over from north of Seattle, said that the snow was even worse over there.
Now it's time to get back on the exercise bike          :bigsmile:0 -
Good evening ladies,
Susie so good to have you back. Have been thinking about you. I did the same between Thanks and about 17 days ago. I am back on track now. Glad to hear you are too.
Barbie, yes it is a lot of good food, like we should eat all of the time. The first 17 days no oatmeal, but starting tomorrow I can have oatmeal. I really have never liked oatmeal. I love everything with oatmeal in it so I know I would like the taste but I fear the texture. The new oatmeal with heartier oats seems like it may be okay so I have decided to try it to see if I like it. I will let you know. I wonder why I ever stray. Eating this way the food tastes so good. Even the most basic food has such a great taste. I hope everyone else has a great evening.

Robin - even doing one pull up is a great goal! Are they assisted? I know one time I tried to do one by pulling up my body weight and I really hurt myself. Have to work up by doing the assisted. Be careful! But what a great goal to work towards
Peggy - fingers crossed for your dad
barbie - WOW! What a change! Good for you!
Got the new mattress yesterday. Then Vince wanted to go to the bowling alley here because according to bowling.com they are an approved pro shop so he wanted to take his ball and have them keep his measurements on file. He says it's in case he wants another ball. Another ball?????? I have my one. Anyway, the pro was "out to lunch" and would return at 4:20 (what a lunch) so we bowled 2 games waiting for him. Vince loves those lanes, I'm not crazy about them. My first game was in the 80's, the second I just barely hit 100 (100 even). Today I'd like to clean out the closet here in the kitchen. The other day I found some Oxi-Clean stuff that was a powder. Well, there is so much humidity down here that it was one big clump so I just threw it away. I see more in the closet so I'd take that home and hopefully use it up.
Amanda - when you get those "cleaning frenzy" moods, come on over to North Carolina! Also, free room and board (in addition to love from kitties)
Viv - welcome back!
geb - WTG girl!
barbie - I never thought of oatmeal with applesauce as a snack. What a great idea!
Here's hoping everyone has a great evening.

Lynn.... we are at a Hilton Garden Inn. I think it was built just about a year ago. It's great to not have to worry about the breakfast choices and just keep myself on track for the other meals.
Our conference has just started and the next two days will basically be catered vegan and vegetarian meals. We had a lot a prep work today and I did not get to the gym. I have gotten there every other day this week so I am trying not to beat myself up about that tonight.0 -
Wouldn't you know it - after my cleaning frenzy yesterday, I loaded the washing machine with the clothes I'd been wearing and walked back in an hour later to find that the machine had flooded. The floor was an inch deep in water. Agggh! I'm dashing out this morning to buy some drain rods as I'm pretty sure that is where the problem is. We had a blockage there last week which I thought was cured but now I'm not so convinced it is. Meanwhile, I've got loads of washing waiting to be done as I took down some curtains yesterday too.
At least it's keeping me busy!
Have a good day ladies x0 -
Good Morning ladies,
I need help this morning. I weighed in only because I leave phase 1 this morning and enter phase 2. Wanted a record of how much I lost on phase one. My weight was up 1/2 pound since Monday weigh in. I know I know only 1/2 pound. Here is my problem. I usually let this discourage me. I am not discouraged but I think I figured out why. since I have done everything I was supposed to. Followed plan to the T. Why did I gain. I know there are many reasons but none I can pinpoint. That is why I choose to weigh weekly. anyway, I always try to analyze and think I need to change something. I know I need to just follow the plan and keep going but this is what I am struggling with. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, comments, are greatly appreciated.
Hope you all are doing well.

:flowerforyou: So far so good!!! It really is a day at a time. I did what I should yesterday and I know I am capable of doing the right thing again today. Didn't lose any this past week, but walking on the treadmill each day surely is building some muscle. I'll be patient. Having some connection issues with my computer, not able to get on as ofte as I want.:frown:0

What kind of sodium is happening with this plan? That can really cause a fluctuation of half a pound or more.0 -
Just got back from a few days visiting my folks and family in the San Francisco bay area. That’s always a challenge for me. I kept the brakes on pretty well while I was there but went off track once I left, starting with a chocolate bar on my way home. Not good!
I love my folks and am grateful to still have them – but my dad drives me crazy! I drove us to some thrift shops (which I enjoy) and Marie Callendar’s restaurant for lunch (which I don’t enjoy so much).
He started off grumpy because I wanted to drive (his driving is so-so) then gave me a steady stream of instructions about how to drive. This was accompanied by criticisms about life in general. Oh, Dad. I do love you but you do drive me crazy.
DD and her family (we share the same property) went to the family cabin at Tahoe while I was in the bay area. They saw some snow! They got 4 feet of snow in 24 hours. Snow covered the cabin half way up the roof. They had to dig through all that (plus much more from the week before) to get to the front door.
Barbara, you asked about my orchard…we just planted 18 bare-root semi-dwarf trees – plum, apple, cherry, nectarine, peach, fig, pomegranate, and fuyu persimmon. If we can keep them safe from the deer, gophers, voles, and birds, eventually we’ll have a crop! Can’t wait.
We really need to put a fence in. The cost is not appealing. I'm wondering if deer repellent works.
We’re planning a vegetable garden too. This is all challenging for someone who’s never been a gardener! If I get tomatoes, I’ll be happy!
Barbie, you look wonderful and so much healthier. Congratulations! Thanks for the idea about the pedometer.
Susan, welcome back.
Amanda, sounds like you’re back in form. I’m glad for you.
Viv, nice to see your smiling face.
Jeannie, I hope things are going well. You are faithful.
Vicki, you sound so frustrated. Urghhh. Hang in there. The scale will catch up. It’s frustrating when it lags though.
Welcome to everyone who's new. This is an amazing bunch of women who have lots of wise advice and their own stories to share.
I’m back on track now after two days of completely blowing it. I’ve slacked on exercise too. When the weather gets chilly, I huddle up inside. ("Chilly” here means in the 30’s to 40’s…how can I complain?!)
I’m reconsidering the low-carb diet I’ve been trying. Not sure it’s for me. I’ll try to hit a happy medium and keep my fruits and veggies up, up, up (as always – I can’t do without my “willpower!”), continue keeping my protein up a little (that seems to agree with me), and decrease fats except for good stuff like avocados and eggs.
And then...there's the exercise. Time to get back into the swing of things.
I was going to share some photos on PhotoBucket but the html I tried to copy is not doing the trick. Hmmphhh!

Didn't work. Darn.0 -
Evening everyone
It's good to be back.
I've not done too badly today, but I am going out to eat this evening with the girly group from work. It is lovely to catch up with everyone as I don't go every month. Mainly because I don't really enjoy eating out (always get too full) and I prefer to eat early and the girly group always book for 8:30 p.m. By the time you get the meal it's nearly 9pm and this is just too late for me to eat.
We are going to an Italian restaurant this evening, so I'm not sure what I'll be eating, but I think I'll have to ask for a doggy bag and save half for my meal tomorrow.
I usually plan what I'm going to eat beforehand but I haven't seen a menu this time, no doubt it will be the usual pasta type dishes Italians are know for.
Wish me luck - I'd better get a move on and get ready, Mimi I'll try and fill up on veggies.

Good afternoon ladies,
My fit is over I think. I just kept on doing what I am supposed to. Maybe it is sodium or just fluke or who knows what. but not going to let it get me. Plan to up my exercise also that should help. I went to get my hair done this morning and then stopped at mall(on way home) and byron and I walked (he rode) 4 laps around mall for 50 min. will go walk with heather this afternoon also. got to eat a sweet potato for lunch today. so good. nice to have something different. Oh by way I tried the oatmeal this morning. I loved the taste but texture is still weird to me. think I will keep trying though. had the new apple, cranberry, walnut kind. have a good rest of day
vicki m0 -
Vicki, good for you. You have a great attitude. BTW, just in case you're using instant, oatmeal made from scratch and, even better, made from steel cut oats, has much better texture than the instant kind.0
-
Vicki - I second Robin's question about the sodium. I know that, especially in summertime, I have to really watch my sodium intake or I won't lose at all but will just gain, gain, gain
Well, it was a real nice liftoff. Every time I watch one, I'm always in awe to just think that those guys are going into space.
At first, some friends of mine were going to be coming so I made some muffins and a cake for them. Only they didn't come. So, since Vince won't eat the muffins (he will eat the cake so I'll take it home), I've been finishing up the muffins. One more to go. Also packed a bag of food for myself. Turkey sandwiches, veges, some fruit. Have almost everything packed. I didn't realize that there are going to be TWO more launches, I thought there was only to be one more. As of right now (key words), the next launch is scheduled for April and then the last one for June. Like I said, "right now". This launch was originally scheduled for something like November and it's just now going up in February. I have one more muffin, a container of yogurt, some cheese and some chocolate that I need to finish up before we leave. If something is in a powder form (like the dishwashing detergent that I just got), it gets hard as a rock. I'll need to get some liquid dishwashing detergent. I had to throw out this thing of Oxi-Clean and Zud cleanser since they were hard as a rock. We cleaned out the pantry closet, and made some donations. There are still things that need to come back to NC, but that'll happen another time.
Need to run and pack. Have a great evening everyone!

Vicki - I have hated oatmeal most of my life and refused to eat it. However, as a part of my journey to a healthier diet, I started thinking that I should force myself. So for my New Year's resolution, January 1st 2010, I decided that I would learn to eat oatmeal. I fix it with splenda, a little brown sugar, a little salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and of course (if you know my addiction) a tablespoon of peanut butter. It will never be my favorite, but I have learned to live with the texture. I was like you - I would eat it in anything, but didn't like the texture of the cereal. I now eat it over 50% of the time for breakfast.0
-
Auntiebk – I sent you the whole wheat bread recipe. Hope it turns out well for you.
Michele – Glad you enjoyed the race. That was neat the kid won. He was so shook up and surprised wasn't he? We used to sit in the Oldfield section between turn 4 and the pit entrance. You sure had good weather for the race.
Got my roots done today and then took a nice long walk on the beach. It was a great day for it today. I took my lunch with me and tormented the gulls with it. I wasn't in a sharing mood. I should have brought some old bread for them.
Tomorrow I go visit my friend in the hospital. She's the one who had the knee surgery on Wednesday. Looks like she gets to come home on Sat.
I am so looking forward to getting back to the gym. I have been maintaining my weight loss and have maybe lost a few more recently but I do so much better when I work out! I have been doing yard work but it's just not the same intensity.
Oh, some of you want to try oatmeal but have flavor/texture issues with it. As Barbie, and maybe other mentioned, try one that isn't instant or even quick. I eat it every day and absolutely love it. I either get a generic 7 grain mix from the bulk bins in the grocery or when I can find it I get Quaker multi-grain hot cereal - again not quick. Add dried cherries and a few walnuts - yummy!
Faye0 -
How do you join this group? I love that you set goals for the month and check in with each other - not to mention I am definitely over 50 :-)0

:flowerforyou: some of you may remember that I got six boxes of apples from a friend who has apple trees on her property and I spent part of every day for weeks making applesauce (I left the peel on and didn't add sugar). and freezing it in canning jars and freezer bags.......now I add that applesauce to the oatmeal from the bulk bin or steel cut oatmeal that I cook.....it makes it sweet and changes the texture quite a bit and is low sodium and fairly low calorie
:flowerforyou: we have more snow today and the temperature didn't get above freezing.......line dance class was canceled so I danced some favorite dances in the kitchen for an hour........hubby offered to drive the dogs and me to the dog park and we had a great time....the poodles love the snow and they ran and played until we decided that we had had enough    they plow the roads in town but our private road was very snowy but with careful driving we did fine......later I went out by myself to meet some friends.
:flowerforyou: annemarie, welcome to the group.....you join just by posting and now this thread will come up in "My Topics" so you can find us again.....we are a mixture of ages over 50 and in various places in our weight loss journey, but we share a lot of good information and find a lot of encouragement here.......tell us more about yourself......I have been part of this thread for two years and feel like this is my extended family.....my family at home is my soul-mate husband, two Standard Poodles, and two cats (look on my profile to see their pictures)......I dance, ride my exercise bike, and walk for exercise. :bigsmile:0 -
Good Morning ladies
:frown: Just checked and I have had to change my ticker - I've gone up 2lbs :frown: I don't feel as if I have done anything differently, but obviously the snacks have been creeping in more than I thought. Thank goodness I can go back to logging everything and also it helps to get inspiration from all you lovely ladies too!
Well the meal at the Italian restaurant last night was lovely although very calorific I'm sure. It was a good crowd though and I didn't drink much (plenty of water with the meal) so back to basics this morning.
Sorry some of you are having weather problems, tornado's and storms. Here I was moaning about the non stop rain, it certainly puts things in perspective!
Going shopping this morning - it's my long weekend - I need to stock up on lots of healthy stuff so will make a list after walking the dogs otherwise I'll end up with lots of food, but forget the main things I went for
Welcome all newcomers, and the newest member annemarie - as you will find out this is a great group (of losers)
Time is marching on so I'd better get ready to take the dogs out, sorry I am rambling at the moment, nothing much to say but want to "talk" to you all just because I can! I'm worried we may lose our connection but so far so good. Maybe if our current provided had given us a new router sooner I wouldn't be changing providers. Sorry rambling again.
DD is getting her coat on, bye for now

Mary - you've given me a great idea for Lent. Maybe for Lent I'll try eating beans. I don't know what it is, but I just don't like the texture. Yet, I know that they are good for me. Now for some ideas on how to cook them..... I've heard that the best beans are the ones you soak, I can probably do that in the evening.
Faye - for the Daytona, we're in the Roberts section, I would guess half way between the start/finish line and the start of turn 1. You had good seats, too. Fortunately, we're on the top row so you can stand on your seats without intereferring with the person behind you. Also, we have a cover over us so we don't get rained on or the sun beating down on us. The bad thing is that the sun isn't there to warm you up....oh well. You talked about tormenting the gulls with your lunch. You should have seen them when the sonic boom from the launch hit!
When we get back I need to get my roots done and also want to get my bangs trimmed. Ever since Vince wants me to grown it long, I'm thinking that I'll pull half the hair back in a ponytail, in summer I'm hoping to pull it all back into a ponytail. Can't stand to have it on my shoulders when I'm exercising. Also, can't stand to have the bangs in my eyes. I hate it when sweat is on my face, on my chest, back, legs, arms I can handle, but not on my face.
I really love the steel cut oats -- the one you have to cook for 30 minutes.
Been keeping up with my exercise while down here. On Friday I did 45 min of yoga (I'm not crazy about their yoga, but I tried it again Monday hoping it would be a different instructor -- which it wasn't -- so I didn't go again on Wednesday), then did 45 min of cardio step (I like the fact that she gives good directions, it isn't real complicated, but I get a good workout.), 15 min of abs (I like the way she also works the back, not just the abs), and 45 min of strength toning (not a class that I'd write home about), on Mon I tried the yoga again, then 45 min of cardio step, 15 min of abs, then 45 min of strength training, on Tues I tried a zumba class -- didn't get my heartrate up but that's probably because I'm so new that I'm still trying to figure out the steps), then 45 min of cardiocycling, on Wed. I did 1 hr of HIIT on the elliptical, 15 min of abs, then 45 min of muscle conditioning (not something I'd write home about), yesterday I did 45 min of cardiostrength (I'd forgotten I did it on Friday, not real fantastic), then an hour of cycling (used one of my downloadable workouts). Today we'll be in the car so I won't get to exercise. In one sense it kind of surprises me that people down here don't really break a sweat when they workout, but just walk on the treadmill etc. then again, most of the people are elderly, or so it seems.
Interestingly - the fitness director down here is good friends with our new CEO. He talked about the time he was up here and saw Bob's (The CEO) apartment. When I get back, I'm going to ask Bob if he's convinced Carl (the wellness director down here) to move to NC yet. He's done really good things with this Y. the thing I liked most was that he didn't just sit in his office, he was on the floor with the members, and to me that's the way it should be.
barbie - surely the dogs didn't have enough in the snow and wanted to come home! I remember when we had a dog, I could have left him out in the snow for hours and hours, and he'd continue to play.
Welcome annmarie! I knew someone would answer how you joined this group. Welcome, again!
While down here I had to buy a pair for denim shorts and a pair of black shorts. Not that I needed them, especially the black ones. If I hadn't taken the tags off, I could have returned them to the store. I did buy this one shirt at the Dillards down here, not sure if I have it or not but if I do I can return it to the Dillards by us. I usually don't like Dillards, they are too old-ladyish and too expensive, but this shirt was on sale. Usually around $20, I got it for $10. I do like the colorfulness of Caribbean Joe clothes, tho
I'm going to post this while I can still use my laptop. I'll have to use my phone tomorrow in the car, and sometimes that can be a pain (but it's better than nothing, that's for sure!). Still grateful that someone has a wireless connection here. Vince mentioned about how he could put in a password and lock that person out, but we'd only be hurting ourselves. He's proably disconnect this router so the next time we come down we'd have to go to the library. So he won't do it.
